Very good analysis Peter! I agree with everything you said, as much as I think Hendikse is fantastic player when he’s on, but Grant is like lightning, I feel that because he’s so quick, he makes the opposition mentality fatigued because he always demands attention and eyes have to be on him, whereas Hendikse is a lot more predictable? Willie was brilliant too and can’t understand why others are saying Mapimpi will be too old for the 27 World Cup? He performs every single game. I was also very disappointed in Moody, I really thought he would make the most of the opportunity, he’s not doing himself any favours at the moment?
Thanks for that David. Glad you enjoyed it! For me Grant is now our number one scrummy and I am expecting him to start alongside Pollard against England. Makazole has himself said he doesn't know if he will be able to make it to 2027 but I hope he does. He has been a wonderful servant of SA rugby and we should never forget, the first Springbok to score a try in a RWC final. I agree Moodie didn't have a great game. I think his time will come though.
@@frontrowrugbyPeter , could you please investigate into the Ref from the weekend , I can’t ever remember seeing him before in test rugby? High profile games deserve the best referee… surely?
Another thing that I was curious about, I distinctly remember seeing Eben at 5 lock after/when RG came on , RG is the agile 5 lock? Eben the enforcer? Or Jean Kleyn? If it’s was an experiment? But why not try that in practice sessions, not at test level, there’s madness in that Erasmus I tell you 😂😂😂
Hi Peter. Not sure if you have contacts in higher places, but maybe you could get a message to Rassie via someone else. According to my stats, Saturdays game against England will be the Boks 100th test on British soil. Quite a milestone 😊👍
Mitch, you're gonna love this. I emailed the head of communications at SARU and he offered this response: "Hi Peter Just did a count and your informant I think is correct if we make it Great Britain and Ireland (i.e. including Dublin) - there have been 99 matches on those isles to date (including matches in the two world cups to have taken place there). Hope you don’t mind if we include that stat in our facts when we announce the team this week. Cheers Andy" You're a super star, bud!
@@mitchmillar613 this was truly a brilliant stat to bring to their attention. I feel really proud that they're going to announce this later this week - even though I didn't really have much to do with it. You should feel very proud!
In terms of the croc roll, attacking the neck or landing on the outside of the knee lower limb, I think there is an argument for looking at them as one in the same. Most times a croc roll ends up landing on the leg trapping the knee. In Judo/Jujitsu or wrestling this in termed reaping the knee. Nasty and can be very deliberate like the Frizell incident. Not just about safety imo.
Thanks for that. Appreciate the insight. I understand that there is always the possibility of danger in those situations. I suppose the goal of the law is to punish the action rather than the consequence, even if there isn't a consequence.
Considering we played a team with 11 changes from arguably our best team ,Im quite content . Our best 8 played only 35 min and three quarters of our best backline didnt play at all . Taking that inconsideration to still win reasonably comfortable is a good job . Rassie would have learned quite a lot from this game , me thinks . I can not wait for next week ...dink ons gaan hulle slag solank dit nie reen nie😂
I agree. This was not a first choice Bok team and it dealt with a very good Scottish team. I'm not worried at all and I know Rassie is rotating the squad heavily. There are a few reasons. One, he has a lot of older players, so by rotating it keeps them fresh and hopefully healthy ahead of 2027. Secondly, it bloods newer players who might be needed down the line to fill gaps on a long-term basis.
Think it purely because mosert was in an upright bent position contesting the ball while cummings and darcy attack him getting him off his feet and then mosery leg get bent and in that small moment their was a small piece in the video where a serious injury could occur which it didnt happen but one can see that mosery was limping and therefore a red card was issued. Correct decision
Yes, not disputing the law. Just asking the question about intent versus accidental. Thankfully in this case Sous was okay and I don't think Cumming deliberately tried to injure him. Should that then be a red card? Not sure.
Combinations are important, Am needs more game time, preferably with D'Allende, too many handling mistakes but I never felt like we would lose. Moodie I think is an exciting player for the future.
Absolutely! I maintain Am and De Allende are our best centre combo. Not to take anything away from Kriel who has been sensational in the last year. Agree with everything you've said there. Good to hear from you as always, Denis.
Agree he is better coming on at openside in the second half. Hendrikse also did not have his best Test but hey, we won by four tries to nil so that's good.
you have a great channel, but need to explain the croc roll issue.......initially i thought it was harsh for Scotland, and as a South African, wanted to see a fair game......but in American NFL and Rugby League, it isn't actually the croc-roll, but landing on the lower limbs. NFL is actually banning this "catch and drop tackle" where the tackler jumps on the back of attacker and then slides down to land on his lower legs.....extremely dangerous where it puts out player for 8months with ACL issues....
Thank you for the kind words! Sorry if i wasn't overly clear on the croc roll issue. So yes, as you correctly say if it creates a scenario whereby it threatens players' careers then we shouldn't have it in the sport at all. I also accept that in this sport there are collisions and there are inevitably going to be accidents. Trying to get a conversation going about where we draw the line in that regard. PS I'm wondering if you're an NFL fan by any chance? I support the Miami Dolphins. Enjoy watching games on a Sunday night usually.
Our number 2 options in Bongi, Marx and Grobelaar are all world-class players. Perhaps their throwing in at the lineouts could benefit with a slight training drill adjustment that should eventually result in a more pleasing and meaningful outcome and successful end resullt? I must point out that there is very little that I know around specific technical lineout aspects. Including considerable match day pressures. However, I do have some thoughts around the application of a particular practice drill. Yes, I sense that there potentially exists a fault around the practice methodolog and implementation of a specific, mostly used, lineout drill. When the hooker's practice, I have observe that the involved coach/trainer/assistants/players, who are holding that target board (whatever it's correct name is) are adjusing its lifted height, often to assist or ensure that even somewhat innacurate (height ... in particular ... and very occasionally, the direction) practice throws are still ending up hitting the intended target. Hence, they are almost blocking the throw in and not allowing the throw to follow its full initial path to the target board. Hmm, I can't help but wonder if this could be a small or bigger factor to the Boks "accuracy when throwing in during pressured game time lineouts" or if it is actually insignificant 😮? Working on the basis that perfect (more realistic ... somewhat contrived) repetitive practice could lead to higher matchday performances, this potential shortcoming is easily fixed by the person who is holding the board target facing away from the prop and then they get to raise the target board on perhaps a voice cue. During or following this voice cue phase the prop throws the ball, practicing to strike the target board. At number 9, there are wonderful, wonderful options available in the current squad for the coach and selectorion team to choose from. Grant, Canan, and🎉 Kobus are the players who immediately come to mind. At positions 12 and 13, both Am and Esterhuizen are not a problem at all, plus our usual pairing of Kriel and Damian plus Moodie, and even Willie or Grant can serve to correct any match situation difficiencies. Thank you for the opportunity to post. I so enjoy your programme!
Thanks Rosemary, that's very kind of you. I agree our accuracy at lineout throwing has not be great, especially this year, but hopefully the coaches are working on improving it. I'm confident they are. You've mentioned some magnificent players here. I can tell you are a big fan but also a student of the game. No one should try talking nonsense to you! Again, really appreciate your kinds words. It means a lot.
@frontrowrugby Thank you, Peter, you rock. 🪨 It's actually my man who is the author of this post. He prefers anonymity but is indeed a student of rugby, communications and life, in general.
