Well, Worf is a firm hand in combat and Riker seems to be listening to those suggestions alot. It's plausible they share something deeper than merely comeraderie.
I think Worf's time on the Enterprise has taught him a lot about restraint and that most of Klingon "honor" killing is senseless killing. I highly doubt that this "evolved" klingon would kill anyone for making that joke, understanding that Discretion IS the better part of Valor..of course he would be upset, but kill?...no.
1:05 I always love that priceless look Worf gives towards Riker at the end there, almost like "Choose your words more carefully next time, Commander..."
I really like how Jonathan Frakes delivers the line "you look good in a dress". On paper it looks like Riker's teasing Worf (and he might be, a little), but Frakes plays that line like Riker is simply giving Worf a straight up compliment. That he seems to look at Worf's ass just before saying it is just the cherry on top.
It was absolutely a tease, meant to defuse the comment he made just before it, a comment that was correct but that most viewers would find very difficult to swallow. The tease undercuts the previous comment because it's made from the same perspective that informs Worf's objection; the fact that Riker teased Worf about wearing a dress tells us that at least some part of Riker agrees with Worf and finds the idea of wearing a dresslike garment to be unmanly. We could conclude that Riker merely knows how to tease people from their perspective, and I'm sure he does, but Riker is the manly man of the humans, and the show always gives him a few lines here and there so that viewers can feel his boner bumping against them in the turbolift.
My fave part is the few seconds Worf looks in the mirror like "OMG he thinks I'm beautiful!" before hastily snapping back to Klingon mode. All the casual flirting Riker actually does at Worf, and how crush-smacked Worf is sometimes around him, it's just upsetting, the show's era wouldn''t have allowed anything else to happen in the show at all. Worf has a massive amount of respect for Riker, as a warrior even, and respects his strength. Remember when Worf let Will into his holodeck calisthenics exercise program? That was an incredibly *personal* thing for him to do, and he doesn't do that with anyone -- with the exception of K'ehleyr! And not to mention Will taking a lot of personal effort to learn about and understand Klingon culture and customs... gosh, there's too much. Riker/Worf forever!
Well said. It would have been nice to see some LGBT in TNG. The closest we got was that one episode of Riker's budding relationship with that androgynous unisex alien.
Tell me Riker hasn't mastered diplomacy, especially where Klingons are concerned, lol Chastised, brow beaten, and finally made fun of. All _very_ Klingon
On the one hand, I find myself cringing at this statement, as today it would be considered fairly inappropriate. On the other hand, I really wish Worf had followed up with "After you are done showing them the ship, you can buy me dinner"
Their dress uniforms were pretty silly. The original cast movie uniforms, though. Those were nice. You think they'd just take those and doctor their color schemes a bit. A good dress uniform has you looking at yourself in the mirror and saying "Damn I look good." Like when I wore my Marine Corps dress blues.
I actually always thought that Starfleet had done pretty well - their dress uniforms look fairly comfortable - whereas DJs or, much worse, current military dress uniforms are awful.
Star Trek was created by so-called SJWs. This is something that ignoramuses in the fandom refuse to acknowledge. All humans in the Star Trek universe believe in social justice (except for those in the Terran Empire in the "Mirror Universe")
JanetFunkYeah true, but at the same time if we do reach that level of civilization, we will most likely be the Terran empire rather than the pansy federation
WE live in a time where 95%+ of inequality has been overcome (in 1st world countries). He lives in times where 100% of inequality has been overcome Federation-wide.
Well isn't the ponytail a necessity by way of Starfleets general dress code in regards to lenght of hair and hair styles? Like in the Voyager episode "Learning Curve" Tuvok needs to remind the Bajoran/Maquis trainees assigned to him that they are not allowed to wear their earrings (Gerron, Bajoran) or necklaces (Chell, Bolian)?
The irony here is that, by this point, TNG had completely forgotten those unisex "skant" things had even been used in season 1. Which is just as well, despite Gene thinking it was a sign of how "enlightened" the 24th century was, they looked ridiculous on the male crew, because they were just like the old TOS era female uniforms.
Re: How "stupid" the dress uniforms looked -- I didn't mind it as much as some, though they were originally much longer (down to the knee), had gold piping along the closure, and were worn with black leggings. After William Ware Theiss departed as costume designer (he also worked on the original series), Robert Blackman admits that he was constantly tinkering with this design before throwing it out entirely in the movie "Insurrection". It got progressively shorter and was worn with the same pants as the regular uniform instead of leggings (similar to the original series dress uniforms).
Personally I think it was perfected in the DS9 episode "You Are Cordially Invited". The jacket is shortened to a similar length as the Wrath Of Khan uniform jacket, and it's given a similar belt, and the shoulder is the somewhat longer version with the vertical pleating like the First Contact uniforms, but still black rather than grey. I think that was perfection, and way better than the Insurrection dinner jacket.
i find it very hard to believe that men hundreds of years from now would be self-conscious about wearing dresses, let alone an alien. men have worn "dresses" and tights for most of human history. even in many parts of the world (india, which has 1/6 of the world's population), men still wear "dresses" with leggings. and lets not forget kilts and other cultural garments. this is a very modern, western point of view to take
I like how Riker strategically positioned himself near the door before saying that.
That's a "tactical withdrawal". Always get closer to the door before you insult a Klingon.
I really enjoyed their relationship, how they both could get pissed at each other and still retain friendship in a command structure.
Well, Worf is a firm hand in combat and Riker seems to be listening to those suggestions alot. It's plausible they share something deeper than merely comeraderie.
0:59 - Riker, looking down directly at Worf's butt before making that comment, good lord I love this clip
A gift that keeps on giving?
That last glance back is Worf realizing he would look good in a dress.
Live your best life, Worf.
Imagine Worf wearing a dress with spaghetti straps wielding a bath'let
if it was any other man telling that joke, Worf would have killed him where he stood.
Pandam0nium
Or stick the sharp end of his bat’leth where the sun don’t shine
Shane Inkster you know where that’s from right?
I think Worf's time on the Enterprise has taught him a lot about restraint and that most of Klingon "honor" killing is senseless killing. John Smith Pretty sure the OP was just making a First Contact joke.
@@skyserf yup, pretty much XD
Riker and Worf are hilarious together 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Riker: Besides, you look good in a dress.
Worf: You know it, honey ;)
1:07 Worf's thoughts: "you know...you're actually right for once." :D
I swear this entire episode could be retitled "Year of Hell: Worf Edition"
Or in his case, Year of Gre'thor
1:05 I always love that priceless look Worf gives towards Riker at the end there, almost like "Choose your words more carefully next time, Commander..."
Now we’re all wearing dresses.
-2024.
It's amazing how you could search some lines in Star Trek and BAM! A UA-cam video of it :)
That last look Worf takes as he peers into the mirror and realizes that Riker is right...

(Picard facepalm) What's sad is you sound deluded enough to actually believe that.
Data says: Is this a new form of command?
@@JoveJoved Yeah, it's pretty spot on...
It was a joke fellas nothing more to it then that

"Besides, you look good in the dress". That's Riker, he could even make a Klingon smile and knew how to handle them.
It's not a dress it's a tunic LOL
or a Bobo!
I believe they call it a "dress uniform" X-D
RROBE!
A tunic with a side pocket for Tampons. , ,🤣🥴💝
Nearly everytime I hear Worf say "Klingons do not..." I want to see the youtube video detailing all of them ^^
This is one of the most unintentionally (or was it?) hilarious episodes of this particular _Trek_ series.
When Riker flirts with Worf!

@Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Piss off, you apathetic asshole.
It has shades of the sexual tension between Kirk and Spock in the original.
Well... they are called DRESS uniforms.
I'll see myself out.
RIKER
WILL YOU STOP FLIRTING WITH EVERYONE
First Riker scolds him for likening the uniform to a dress, then he jokes saying how Worf would look good in a dress.
Riker does it not because he agrees with Worf, but because he knows it will fuck with Worf.
lol worf gets trolled by everyone in this episode lolol
Funny thing is, the guys I work with on base HATE wearing their dress uniforms because they're so uncomfortable.
The more formal the clothes the less comfortable they are.
they weren't made to be comfortable, they were made to look good, you have to suffer a little to look good
Tell me Riker hasn't mastered diplomacy, especially where Klingons are concerned, lol
Chastised, brow beaten, and finally made fun of. All _very_ Klingon
“Perhaps today is a good day to die.” What Riker thought as he said that line at the end.
Worf looks like he's trying so hard not to smirk at Riker's last comment. I'm surprised the mirror didn't break from that strain.
Commander Riker, Troll Master in Training
Why in training lol, he's a true master of trolling arts 😂😂😂
Worf treats Women with much more respect than Riker
That I'd like to see Worf wearing a pink dress
The music is epic
Riker seems like he would be the one who would ruin the “dress uniform” by deciding that he did not have to wear underwear with it.
There's actually people who think seriously about what riker joked about
I mean...Riker WOULD be a good judge on who looks good in a dress, considering how many have hit his floor.
"I DO NOT ENJOY THESE...DIPLOMATIC SITUATIONS"
*becomes Ambassador to Qo'nos*
S A V A G E
X3
Riker should have said well the regular uniforms look like PJs so who's complaining.
And they wear tights under the "dress" uniform , ,they should've used those special uniforms A lot more , , 😋😋👍
Epic Riker burn. :D
Worf: Watch your back Commander!... Watch your back.... I'll put a "Kick my ass" sign on your back without you knowing it.
Ah the River Shit Eating grin XD
Now be careful or I'll order you to where the skant for a week!
Before Odo's "hrrrmpf" was Worf's scowl.
RIKER TROLL!!!!
Like Worf, I also hate dress uniforms with the passion of a thousand exploding suns.
Mostly because of the beret. Fuck berets.
Lol worf looks like he is ready to end riker...
And would have failed, miserably and he knows it
On the one hand, I find myself cringing at this statement, as today it would be considered fairly inappropriate.
On the other hand, I really wish Worf had followed up with "After you are done showing them the ship, you can buy me dinner"
Pulled a reversal on ya LOL

A good dress uniform has you looking at yourself in the mirror and saying "Damn I look good." Like when I wore my Marine Corps dress blues.
To quote Dr McCoy ," it (the Vulcan salute) hurts more than the uniform"
Loved even the shabby Olive Green army dress I had in the 00s.
I actually always thought that Starfleet had done pretty well - their dress uniforms look fairly comfortable - whereas DJs or, much worse, current military dress uniforms are awful.
They look like dresses
I feel like the dress uniforms would look better if they wore their usual pants with the dress shirts. Leggings do not become Worf, Riker, and Picard.
😆
Riker: the best kind of SJW
He lives in a time where 95% of inequality has been overcome.
To quote Sisko: "It is easy being a Saint in Paradise."

Worf, dude, you're wearing your hair in a ponytail. Your argument about dresses is invalid.
+allpossibleworlds Tell that to Khal Drogo.

A man can wear all the ponytail he likes when he can kill you with his bare hands... while laughing about it.
Hmmm... Princess Leah's hair style (side buns)?

Jovan Gauthier-Vincent yeah the original series dress uniforms worked, I don’t think they needed to be changed that drastically

it didn't even look stupid, it just looks like a kurta or something similar. there's nothing very unusual about it
Whats a kilt
Why do you play it back so the audio is a full tone or two higher in pitch? Annoying as hell listening to riker talk like a chipmunk
Woke Trek
i find it very hard to believe that men hundreds of years from now would be self-conscious about wearing dresses, let alone an alien. men have worn "dresses" and tights for most of human history. even in many parts of the world (india, which has 1/6 of the world's population), men still wear "dresses" with leggings. and lets not forget kilts and other cultural garments. this is a very modern, western point of view to take
10 years later this conversation would be dug up on Twitter, causing Worf to be cancelled into oblivion.
Check your Privilege Worf, We won;t be having any of such microagressions coming from our Star Fleet Officers.
I don't get why saying a uniform looks like a dress is sexist.
It's not.
