Hey Beans, Love your story and safe travels. I have a theory on the cause of the fire because it happened to me with a similar age Ford. My automatic transmission cooler line (aluminum) split and sprayed transmission fluid on the hot exhaust manifold and burst into flames. Luckily I spotted the smoke quickly and had a large fire extinguisher I was able to put to use. A good Samaritan, similar to yours, also stopped and used his extinguisher. We were able to hold the fire at bay until the fire department arrived and put the flames out. The aluminum cooler line was melted beyond recognition, but that was the only piece missing that could have caused the fire. The mechanic said he had seen a number of these cooler lines rupture and most just leave a puddle of transmission fluid trailing behind you. A few are unlucky enough to spray the exhaust manifold igniting the fluid. My suggestion if you find another older Ford camper van, have the mechanic replace the cooler line. Best of luck and keep up the great videos!

I live in the upper Midwest where the roads are salted in winter. Yes, years of winter driving on salted roads will create a rust-bucket but people generally don't drive their RV's & camper vans during winter. They typically drive south or to the southwestern states, so their vehicles have minimal exposure to road salt.
We salt roads in the South, too. Granted, not to the extent as our Northern neighbors, but all southern states salt roads with the exception of maybe mid to south Florida.
I was going to say the same thing. People will store their RVs in the cold months to keep them away from the salt. I've noticed lots of good deals on Facebook marketplace in Wisconsin!

I'm so happy that you can go back and buy another, possibly much better, van. In Sweden, we have a saying that goes like this: "Många bäckar små...". Wich if translated straight would mean: "Many little streams...". It's great when we're many that can help with a little, 'cause that tends to go a long long way. Oh and I'm sure there are ppl that have helped with a much bigger amount than "a little" but still... all for one, one for all. Looking forward to that journey.
Thanks for the good news! YAY! We couldn't decide between a kayak and paddleboard. We ended up with both and use the paddleboard more often. If your purpose is to float around for a couple hours, the user ease with a paddleboard beats the tandem kayak to bits. If you need a more stable craft with cargo capabilities, for fishing outings or longer distances, a tandem kayak is the ticket. You pay for this with weight and size, whether stored or inflated. We also ended up towing a small trailer behind us to carry our bikes, inflatables, and spare coolers. Suggest you spend $20K on both an RV and small vehicle. That way you have something to store the inflatable in when it's not in use, which can also serve as that all important second form of transport! Safe travels!

Just an FYI. I live in Way up North in Michigan, above the mit. In the North we don’t use our camper vans when the salt is being used as there is feet - many feet of snow. We either store them until spring or the “ snowbirds” take them south to Florida or other areas. Don’t be afraid to buy from up here. Marie

I recently got an Oru kayak from the US. It is a folding/origami kayak, and brilliant! Takes a couple of minutes to set up and fold up. My normal kayak didn’t fit in our van. The kayak, which only weighs 9 kg and comes in a big backpack fits under our bed, along with our two folding electric bikes, which allow us to go off and explore while camping.
We have a T5 and fitted Reimo rails to both sides so that we can fit the awning/tarp to whichever side needs the shade. Also the rail stops water dripping in through the front windows when it rains😉
What a great outcome for you both and to go back and do it all again is probably the best thing . Will look forward to seeing all your new dreams happen .

It may have already been mentioned, but you can often use the pump to deflate things like the paddle board, a lot easier than trying to squeeze all the air out by hand.

Glad u have recovered/going back to States. Next camper have an inspection done by reputable company before u put $ down. It will be worth it. Go to several camper dealers and ask them what’s important to know. Compare their answers. Check to see it’s been in previous accidents and paperwork accurate. Good luck
The paddle board valves should be one way, push and twist the little stalk then the air won’t fly out. Also the pump should have a deflate part where it sucks all the air out…:your welcome! Also loved Alex’s egg 😂😂

Re, deflating the paddle board, you should be able to use the pump to suck the air out of it. There is normally a plastic lever on the pump with "INF/DEF" on it...
Fun fact: William Penn was instrumental to my family getting help buying a couple hundred acre’s of land from our Native American neighbor friends in what is now named Reamstown, Pennsylvania. After my family on my paternal grandpa’s side. They had fled Europe due to religious persecution. Prior to settling in what’s is now PA back then it was just them and our native neighbors who helped my family learn the land and adapt. WP son’s were sent to provide money to help my nine generations ago great grand parents settle in to helping found a community. They built a church in the early 1700’s (shortly after 1717 that’s still in use today. My third cousin from this lineage went on to be the first woman hired by Congress for an artist commission to sculpt the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, Vinnie Ream was her name. She was about 18 at the time. Prior to President Lincoln’s death she would spend a half hour a day with him sculpting him. She was also one of the first women hired by Congress to work for the post office. This was one reason President Lincoln liked her and allowed the sculpting initially. Besides she was born in a cabin after family migrated to Wisconsin. Since you mentioned PA thought maybe all the Beans would enjoy some interesting tidbits about William Penn and a town that he helped settle. I’m super excited about you being back to get your US tour on. I’m so glad you’re safe. And smiling 😁
Go to Iceland and spend a week or so there at least rent a van and just throw a match with an air mattress in it and enjoy enjoy beautiful Iceland is so much fun definitely go to Iceland and spend some time motoring around Iceland then come to the US or Canada
Rather than a 2nd car, ebikes are absolutely perfect for campervans, and even better in the states with the higher speed/power rules. Either rear rack and lock them up, or there are foldable and or small bikes as well etc. So much choice.
@@TheUGFUGF Why does it always have to be about the cost? I’d pay twice the price of a smart car if the bikes worked for me. Everybody wants cheap nowadays. My mind seriously boggles.
The first thing I thought when I saw the video about the fire was fuel lines as it has happened to so many old vehicles since they started adding ethanol to petrol.
This seems like a perfect camping set up! I sure know my husband would definitely go for van life if I could have a way for him to play videos games in the middle of nature. Super fun and awesome!
@@tailgatecarpenter26 says you. Me, I would like it if I could talk my husband into a nice trip and him have a little luxury if he wants it. So, my comment still stands. Seems like an awesome set up! Good thing we don't have to camp in the 1960s anymore 🤣
We live on the Southern East Coast. We have loads of Camper Vans that are in excellent Condition. No matter where you decide....you may want to check with Camp Grounds as alot of people list them with the Camp Grounds when they decide to sell as they have upgraded or bought outright. Also, there are magazines on just Vans and also there are many Van Clubs in and through out the USA that will help you in finding your dream Van. They can also tell you the vest and most honest mechanics out there. As these Clubs travel around they know mechanics in most other states and cities as well. Even though we only travel certain places in our Van we have noted places these guys have recommended. As for traveling in our cars we have gone to truck stops and talked to Truckers who have given us list of everyday mechanics for our automobiles as well. So if or when we breakdown....we don't have to panick on where to get our vehicles fixed. Just a "little need to know" good information.
I would like info on the adorable portable firepit you use for your campfires...please? Love your videos...can't wait to see the RV you buy on your return to the USA 🥰

This is why you make sure to have PROPER insurance. Your OLD van is listed/registered as a "Cab Only" or a "Cut-away" NOT a Conversion or RV van. When providing the description of the van to insurance you needed to insure they listed it as a RV or Conversion van. They may have had you verify its status with an inspection but basically you FAILED to have proper insurance.
I think this is quiet an aggressive comment highlighting failed in caps. The Montana based company they used should have checked that. As insurance terminology and coverage is different from uk and USA. So it would be an easy mistake to make if you didn't know.
@@theashbys8863 It cost them about 4K because they did not know what they were doing,! Insurance co only sees what the VIN pulls, most companies buy the van as a cut away or cab only and then convert so the VIN is registering the type as a cut a way. and thus 1/2 the value
As a resident of Philly with Ole Billy P statue over looking our center city I appreciate the info. I've been to his house here and now I've seen his house there. Thank u Al-bean
I put a picture of an ad for a van on a recently past posted video of yours, maybe you could talk the guy down. Glad to hear you were not scared off from vanlife in the US. Your hometime helped you alone because the two of you are very happy. :-)
Hey Bean People: You are coming to the US, and I am coming to England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. So much for all of us to look forward to. I will continue to follow you while in the UK. Good luck.
I am a (North American) Quaker and it was very exciting to know you were camping on William Penn's ancestral land. Soooo coool! Thanks for sharing that tidbit.
Just a tip for when using solar panels. If any of the cells on the panel are in shade the entire panel will drop to the output of that part of the panel. At least that’s the way the ones I have work. You can test this by plugging in and covering one of the cells to see if there is a significant drop in the charge watts. If there is you may want to consider setting them up off the grass on a table or hang them from something to get them to charge faster.
I have a SUP and take an extra paddle that is for kayaking (it breaks down into two parts). I anchor the paddle I’m not using under the front bungee. Kayak paddles make it so much less work to glide along. Best wishes and looking forward to your US travels as well.
I appreciate your William Penn mention as I reside in Pennsylvania, about 10 minutes from Penn's home along the Delaware river. Thanks for the PA mention Alex. Bucks County, Pennsylvania is a must to visit. 😊
So happy for you two to be going back to the US for your dream of van life there. The only thanks we need is what you already do which is to share your lovely selves and your adventures. Blessings and happy travels and RV hunting.

I recognise that river! I'm very glad you're 'getting back on the horse'!
I love the look between the two of you when you look into each other's eyes, and I wish you the best of luck with your new project!
Glad you guys are back....can't wait for you to find a NEW VAN 👍🏻❤

If your flying in to NY, I would look in the southeast. No rust issues and less expensive than west coast
I absolutely adore your channel. The perfect mix of entertainment, education, and realistic expectations of travel! As a family of four who travels often, I know I can come to your video collection and get valuable information. Your videos are much appreciated!!

Great to see you literally back on track and ready to hit the road.

Good luck to you both. Love your positivity that shines through on all your videos, long may this continue.
Look at Moon Shade for a proper quick up and down shade. Trent and Allie speak highly for this shade.
We have a T5 and fitted Reimo rails to both sides so that we can fit the awning/tarp to whichever side needs the shade. Also the rail stops water dripping in through the front windows when it rains😉
that mario kart on the side of the van is outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great outcome for you both and to go back and do it all again is probably the best thing . Will look forward to seeing all your new dreams happen .

Good luck with your future purchase, no one deserves it more and I will look forward to seeing your travels in it, and Alex, got to love a boiled egg, a wee sachet of salt would have been the icing on the cake !!
Love your vlogs, if you are after a kayak, The range have there one's on sale from £199.00 down to £79.99 me and my little sis bought they are brilliant. xx
Looking forward to watching this one 😊 You didn't disappoint... Lovely location, but not sure about the view from the loo 🤣😂 Alex popping a egg into his mouth and not being able to speak definitely made me smile. So glad to see you back it's been such a long hard journey with all that has happened to you and your old camper.
Camping in the UK seems so different than in Canada. We mostly have to book our sites and that way people can't snag them from you if you leave. That's wild that someone stole your site last time!

It may have already been mentioned, but you can often use the pump to deflate things like the paddle board, a lot easier than trying to squeeze all the air out by hand.
Hi guys, been watching your channel for a while now, really enjoy the content, glad your getting a new van in the states after that incident, hopefully it will all work out for the best

I also love those relaxing days in nature and would like to see that part of your journey. It's not all about the "adventures". Staying at the home with a connection to William Penn is pretty cool. The camping sites were awesome. I'm excited that you are coming back to the USA to continue exploring our country. Safe travel.

The egg thing had me laughing so hard at Emma laughing 😆

When deflating the Kyak, use the pump in reverse to pull the air out. Enjoy.
Firstly, congrats 🎉 on all of the new stuff going on with your upcoming adventures. Secondly, as a Pennsylvanian (more specifically Philadelphia) - I really enjoyed that William Penn tidbit. It was quite lovely to find out something about a place you’ve called home for decades.

Get yourselves some suction cup anchors and attach them to the top of your van then attach the tarp. Great cheap alternative.
I love this channel because some vanlifers show the best parts of vanlife but these guys show not alway the best things in vanlife but the worst side of vanlife you guys are the best vanlifers :)
so happy you are carrying on your adventure in the USA again.well done lovely beans. blessings and love.xx
So excited for you and glad you’re headed back this way. Al, your tan is called a “farmer’s tan” in the Carolinas. I am a history teacher and absolutely fascinated that you stayed on William Penn’s former property! Your campsite there is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing that. Looking forward to more adventures in the USA! I am praying for y’all as you begin with a new van in the US! (Jane in South Carolina, USA)❤️🙏🏻

So interesting 🙂. Thanks for posting
"Smoke follows beauty" was a common phrase in my family.. and the smoke chases the mosquitos away..
2 E-Bikes cost more than a smart car. Plus cant haul groceries or anything. Especially Camera Gear!
Anything but a Fiat!
@@tailgatecarpenter26 yeah, but if you are staying for days in one spot, wouldn't it be nice to enjoy one of your hobbies during the downtime?
@@tailgatecarpenter26 says you. Me, I would like it if I could talk my husband into a nice trip and him have a little luxury if he wants it. So, my comment still stands. Seems like an awesome set up! Good thing we don't have to camp in the 1960s anymore 🤣
Hi Beanies, I'm glad you're coming back....it's Travel Beans - The Sequel....best of luck to you on this trip. xo Suzi
The scenery is beautiful and I am so happy for the both of you. I just feel bad about what the insurance company did to you. You both deserve a much better explanation than "Undetermined. " Safe Travels to you Both!

We are from Pennsylvania! That's awesome!
I'm excited for your return!!
I mean, what are the chances of two consecutive camper vans lighting on fire? The odds are in your favour now!
Glad to see you back in the USA xx
PS I loved the rest of this episode as well.
As a Pennsylvania native, specifically Philadelphia (which Penn founded) I think this was a lovely tidbit to add.
Can't wait till you come back and get to explore the US in your new camper! Stay safe & happy camping! 🏕❤️
CONGRATULATIONS, YOU DESERVE THE HELP YOU HAVE RECIEVED👍🏻👍🏻🌻 CANT WAIT TO GET YOU TO THE USA TO SHOP🌻🌻🌻
Yay. Change the memories. Be safe, have fun, and stay blessed.
so good to see you both smiling again
I have a SUP and take an extra paddle that is for kayaking (it breaks down into two parts). I anchor the paddle I’m not using under the front bungee. Kayak paddles make it so much less work to glide along. Best wishes and looking forward to your US travels as well.
Texas is currently (and for free) giving all the people here A nice warm embrace if you ever want to come back
I appreciate your William Penn mention as I reside in Pennsylvania, about 10 minutes from Penn's home along the Delaware river. Thanks for the PA mention Alex. Bucks County, Pennsylvania is a must to visit. 😊
I would suggest a kayak of you want to use it together. Much easier to balance when the water is less calm.
Just to point out that camping air bed electric pumps can be set to reverse and vacuum air out in minutes.
Welcome back,TB...nice to see u again, wish u both all the best & happy travels on ur nxt exciting journey..Cheers🎉🎉🎉
