It was really great out there. Thankfully you got to go out and experience it. I ended with about 50-60 fish and had I fished nymphs the whole time I really think 100 was possible in about 5-6 hours. Crazy! Tight lines my friend!
Coach, You continue to "break the code" on the GP! I caught 12 and missed that many for about 3-4 hours yesterday morning and felt good about that. If you had been with me I think you would have tripled that!
Hey Jim! Thanks for the kind words. Glad our conversation and the video helped. Always nice to sneak in a good session and build some confidence. Looking forward to the next time we get out there.
It is! Blue Ribbon and chock full of trout, though not always this easy to catch. Conditions were perfect. I will have another video out this Friday of another part of this day as I kept working upstream. Tight lines and thanks for watching!
It is cool to fight a medium fish, or better, on light tackle. In some cases, it is super stressful. That rod sounds like a dream for brookies or a small mountain stream. Hope you get out soon and put a bend in the rod. Tight lines!
Looks like a great setup! Not sure when I’ll be in the market for a new rod but I will keep it in mind. The green weenie can be clutch! Some say inch worm and some even say caddis imitation. I’m not sure but it works!
It is definitely a good one and on this day fishing was great. Probably 50-60 fish in 3 hours, just an insane window for action. The green weenie can be mistaken for a couple things, you are right. It fishes well even in the winter too. Thanks for watching and supporting Scott, tight lines!
Scooter! What's up buddy? Thanks for watching and commenting. I will absolutely take you up on that. I fish the mop in the winter, so common sense the green weenie will work too. Thanks for the hint :) Tight lines my friend!
Thanks for watching and commenting Art! I will have another one up later today I believe. Only available to you and the other members until Friday. Finally got more ahead of this project. It is actually the 2nd part of my day you saw on this video. I kept going and caught a bunch more. Unfortunately the GoPro failed me later in the day, or else I could have made 3 videos out of it. Fishing was lights out!!! Keep an eye out to the upload and check it out this week when you get a chance. Tight lines brother!
Hey Alex! I have a new video coming out this Friday. It’s basically the second part of this day. Could have been a third, fishing was that good! Go Pro failed me though. After this week I will make a video on rod comparisons and advice on selecting one. The very best video I’ll discuss 3 leader builds and include my micro rig I use as well. I’ll make sure to have them up hopefully one week at a time. I’m long over due, but just order a new camera two weeks ago, new lens and audio yesterday. Lookin forward to hopefully a bit better production value, specifically in the home office/studio.
Good vid man I’m watching all your streamers vids it’s got me itching! Any tips for finding larger browns on the gunpowder? I got a pretty good rainbow like 13 inches but I can’t seem to get into anything larger. Im new so technique probably isn’t incredible but I’ve been going pretty much every day for the past three months. Any way tight lines hope to come to your next streamer clinic.
Hey Austin, Thanks for watching any of the videos. I miss fishing the streamers for sure. However, usually it is a better technique in fall through spring. My tips for the larger ones.... 1.) Fish larger streamers 2.) Fish deeper water 3-6 feet 3.) Fish near structure 4.) Strip set on everything Keep in mind the average fish in that river is 9 inches, so anything above that is a solid fish. I have personally caught 18.5" as my biggest there and hooked about 6-10 in the 20 plus inch class. I will hold a streamer clinic in the fall. Please follow me on IG and I will post about it. Likely will hold it in October/November. Ideally would love to keep it to about 3 people to maximize opportunities to fish, learn, and get feedback. I look forward to working with you on it!
@@tightliningmd anxiously anticipating the fall it will be my first fall ever fly fishing so definitely looking forward to it. I’ve actually had some pretty good takes on the streamer recently I definitely like it the most. Thanks for the tips I hope I can get a spot for your clinic you have been a big help in learning what I know with fly fishing 🤙🏼
I've been looking at the 10' 2wt Diamondback. I checked on buying an extra tip to have on hand and found they want $125.00 for one. I thought that was somewhat steep due to the fact that tips for my other 2wt and 3wt rods, which are in the same price range, are 1/2 that much. I'll wait and see if they'll offer deals on them come Black Friday or over the holidays.
I hear great things about the 10' 2 wt. They were sold out, but should have just re-stocked, so now is the time to grab on. I got the 10'1, which you saw here, and the 10'10" 2 wt. I wanted a little extra length on the second one. I would just wait until you need one, after it breaks, and grab for the $65 bucks. Crazy they make you pay over $100 for a just in case piece. Usually, most companies will want $40-60. Thanks for watching and commenting. Tight lines and enjoy the rod when you grab one!
@@tightliningmd I enjoy the 1wt. I got it for a pressured tailwater where I fish 8x regularly. It does well casting small dries and nymphing and handled 8x without any issues so far. The 2wt seemed a little stout for that but it’s probably more versatile for normal rivers that aren’t gin clear and hammered every day of the year
I typically don't go less than 2.0 and even that I don't fish a ton. I live in the 14-18 world 95% or more of the time. So usually 2.4-3.2 mm beads are common for me. Thanks for watching and tight lines!
I just got into fly fishing this June and it’s easily my favorite style of fishing but I don’t know many spots for trout where would you recommend for places around Abingdon, also love your channel
Welcome to the wonderful world of fly fishing. Given it is July, you should be fishing Gunpowder, Codorus, Savage. Those would be the main options in town. Everything else is too low and hot. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have fun on the water and chase some fish!
Lol I can' t disagree. That is a very stellar set up. Clean looking and smooth to use. I have a buddy with one and he loves it. I have it "in my queue" lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Aaron, Thanks for watching and your feedback. I do agree, casting is quite critical. Although there are times and situations I use the water load/haul cast, that is not exclusively what I use. As a matter of fact, on this same day, I recorded another video which I am editing right now. I consistently see casting demonstrated in that video, and hopefully you will watch that as well. Devin Olsen and Lance Egan even teach about that water haul in their Modern Nymphing series. However, to your point, how you finish your cast and making sure not to lob is critically important.
Hi Mike. Nice breakdown on the gear and the results were amazing. Thanks for the video!

Nice Set up my friend. I have a Sage 7 ft 9 inch 2 weight for small creeks and such! Always a nice fight with a 12 inch or better trout.

Hey Teacher! Great clinic you put on there, very informative. Hint: Try that green weenie in the Winter too, you’d be surprised 😉. Thanks for sharing.

For some reason they charge 125 to purchase a spare but if you break the tip they only charge 65 to replace the section
That is odd how that works. I am happy to know for when it inevitably happens to me :) Thanks for sharing!

Learn to cast a nymph rig instead of water loading and lobbing and I guarantee your catch rate and accuracy will climb.
