      Man. I was arrested for the first time in 19 years last month. I shared a cell for 36 hours with a guy that un-alived his child’s mother. Didn’t even know it until I got out. Knew he was facing 25-65 years. I thought it was for DUI manslaughter or the like because he was on a 10 day alcohol detox hold. Shook me up when I learned what he’d done. The guy was completely normal, 25 year old that you could’ve worked with or bee the son of a friend, ect.

      At the time they were too cowardly to charge him with the death penalty as a punishment. Prosecutor allowed him to plead to murders they couldn’t prove thereby allowing for closure for the families of the other victims. Or that’s what they said. I watched the court proceedings, I don’t think there was a lot of what people would call closure.

      The death penalty doesn't reduce murder rates and only prolongs the anxiety and trauma of victim's families. In the US, states that still have and exercise the death penalty have higher murder rates on average than states that have long since abolished it. And though Washington had the death penalty at the time of Ridgeway's convictions and sentencing (they have since joined the growing number of states and vast majority of the world's countries in abolishing it) prosecutors agreed not to pursue it if Ridgeway cooperated in confessing to and supplying information on all his victims and helping to find their remains. In this way dozens of cases were closed and those families now know what happened to their loved ones. That is a far better outcome than satisfying your desire to kill. Ironic isn't it that your response to a killer is to indulge your own blood lust. Ironic and sick.

    What a dishonor to the families of the victims that this man still breathes

    • @alwa6954
      @alwa6954 14 годин тому +9

      Many of those families only know about the fate of their loved ones because prosecutors agreed not to pursue the death penalty in exchange for him cooperating in giving information and helping them find the remains of all his victims. He could only be charged in some of the murders in which there was evidence but they managed to close something like 90 cases due to doing this and those families have closure because of that. In about half of states (Washington state joining them last year) and the vast majority of all the world's countries there is no death penalty. The death penalty does not bring honor, it brings dishonor. The death penalty actually causes more anxiety and the continuation of trauma for victims' families. It is not a positive thing. Where there is no possibility of the death penalty, families find closure much sooner. And many studies show the death penalty does not reduce the murder rate. In the US, states that still have the death penalty actually have higher murder rates on average than states that have long since abolished it.

    I was an MP in the Army at Ft. Lewis in 1985. There was a guy, a rapist, who was going around to various apartments along South Tacoma Way and that area of Tacoma. His MO was to attack women in the little launderettes that a lot of those apartments had. Well, a guy approached my then wife in our little laundry, and asked her for a rolling paper. He then followed my wife back to our apartment (several blind spots) and forced his way in. When she fought back, the apartment manager(who lived under us) heard the noise and shouted at my wife, asking her if she was alright. This scared him off. There was a Warrant Officer whose daughter was attacked and beaten badly enough to be hospitalized about this time. My ex did not tell me about this incident until years later, as she knew I would be pissed about the weed. .I have reached out to Tacoma PD several times asking for information about this case, if he had ever been caught, etc. No response any time I have contacted them/ Can you find out?

    • @jc478
      @jc478 7 днів тому +3

      Would you feel differently Sean, if your family member, child or loved one, disappeared in the Seattle area, at the time that Ridgeway was killing women, and he didn't take credit? There are many families still trying to find their missing and or murdered loved ones, and I would bet, that just because a suspect is in prison, they shouldn't try to find the truth....for the family, friends and loved ones of missing women and girls, so they can finally know what happened, and find a way to start healing. They will never heal till they know. The thing about serial killers, is they never give up all of their victims, they keep some of them, just so they can relive the moment they took their lives. Ridgeway put many of the bodies in places, where he drove by them on the way to, and from work, so he could fanaticize and relive his evil power. I lived just down the road from 2 houses that Gary lived in, and remember the terror of him, and Bundy, and Kenneth Bianci who was arrested for murdering college students, and pretended to have multiple personalities....and finding out he and his cousin, were the hillside stranglers in California too! Every missing person and their families deserve closure, the police deserve closure of cases, the community needs to know, and move forward. I guess you aren't from around here. And I would point, that if Ridgeway killed others, him being caught and denying it, helps no one. Police have to keep working cases, families still see an empty place at the dinner table, and women will still be afraid to go out at night, or to even help a stranger.

    My friend and i walked from the scary remote outdoor closed greyhound bus station the bus dropped us off at to a full of homeless people safe indoor trailways bus station just before midnight. My friend saw a man standing in the dark in a vest. He asked him to help us go to the open trailways bus station to wait to be picked up by our friend. He talked with my friend who has asperger syndrome and even showed my friend his walther ppk pistol. He told my friend the way he hated women and my friend even held his gun while they walked about how he was in the navy. When we made it to the indoor well lit trailways bus station we saw out the window he met a girl and bear hugged her and carried her to his camper pickup parked just in front of the bus station a ways. He hugged her all the way to the passenger side. I noticed her legs and hands twitching very strangely as he tucked her into the seat. Then he turned on his lights and drove away. I never knew there was a serial killer but he used his real name and i thought he might have been that girls uncle or something. I believe he killed that girl now and saw him on the news when he turned himself in.

    One of the effects of DEI that really is starting to bother me is news presenters that deliver a story in a tone that is completely unsuited to the nature of what she's telling the audience about. The phraseology was weird enough and kind of trivialising but I don't think she wrote it but the female presenter in the studio described the kind of things Gary Ridgeway did to 48 individuals and their families like she was describing a traffic jam or something, or even an "exciting" movie premiere and then the male presenter can't just change the tone immediately without it sounding weird and highlighting her weird tone by contrast so has to continue in the same upbeat tone. It's really jarring.
