Had my 2013 335is for 19 months and the two big issues I had were the water pump at 70K and Crankshaft Sensor failed on me during a 175 mile trip. I also had the plugs/coils changed when I had SpeedLogic in Fullerton Walnut Blast the intake. Rob there knows more about the N54 motor than anyone else I know. Traded it in for a 2016 340i M Sport because I needed more room and four doors, but I really wish I'd kept it.
@@GavinMalm I am, but I still miss the “presence”, the sound and there feel of the 335is. Installed the M Performance Exhaust and H&R’s with M4 Wheels, but it’s just not quite the same. The 340i is a good compromise, but I won’t deny that I still miss the 335is
Similar experience. Bought a ‘13 335is DCT January 20 with 23k, I’ve run it 7k hard miles including 3 track weekends at the Glen. Charge pipe blew 1st week on freeway ramp (new one was in the mail from Cobb, it was expected). Had a coil go, replaced them all from FCPeuro and so far so good. I expect everything mentioned to happen and still not care, the car is tremendously underrated and therefore underpriced. It really tracks well, and the DCT is pretty special on the back roads. For what it’s worth, try running your car stock before doing all the bolt-ons and tunes, you may find the components last longer AND that you never really used that extra HP anyway. Nice video.
I sold this car and bought a M4 last year because I just couldn't stand how the car didn't have a LSD. It was a great car but I had my issues with its handling and ability to put power down. Thanks for stopping by!
Interesting, thanks for sharing. I have owned a 335is DCT four years now, and I've been through the water pump, valve cover gasket and injector issues. I'm also getting a bit of black smoke, but the engine is still producing 420 whp, so I'm not replacing the turbos unless they break or get a lot worse. I run FBO (FMIC, CP, DP) and MHD stage 2+. Quaife LSD as well. The car goes like stink and I'm quite pleased with it
My 335is is a 2011 and has 109,000. I just had my first oil leak (oil housing). Everything else has been great. Just oil changes, tires, brakes... It has a FBO, but I baby it 99% of the time.
Definitely a good video man. I have a 2011 I bought from a Virginia BMW dealer in 2015. Thus far I've replaced a faulty taillight (week 2 of ownership, dealer-covered), LPFP switch went, water pump & thermostat (happened on my 2008 335i, too), charge pipe blew, and recently had to get the clutches replaced. The clutches done at my BMW dealer in Charlotte, NC were around $5k, and covered under my extended warranty thankfully. Now I'm told my shutter and occasional weak starts are a failing LPFP. I've rarely driven spiritedly and it's stock. Walnut blasted twice ($350) and I'm at 127k.

Mine has 109,500ish miles. I have a FBO. Everything was great until now. All I've ever replaced was oil change, tires, brakes. In the last month I got a walnut blast, put on a catch can, changed the plugs and ignition coils and changed the oil housing gasket. This week I had to get a new electric water pump and thermostat ($1,100). Car was over heating. I'm guessing this is the time all the surrounding parts are going to start going out. I'm finally weighing on putting money in this one and keep it for another 100,000 (no car payments) or trade it in??
Performance vehicles have to be maintained a little more strictly. You will have a tough time if you wait for components to break before you perform maintenance. $1,100 is a little spendy for water pump, thermostat and connecting hose unless you are taking it to the dealer.
I personally decided it was time to move on from the car. I drive a lot for work and usually hit 24k plus miles a year so I swap out my cars about every 2 years now.
Have had my E93 for 2 months now at 100k and blew the stock DV within a week. Installed same chargepipe and BOV and fixed the problem until a week later when the boost solinoids went. After all that mechanical smooth but just recently broke the convertible 😬 hope this trend doesn’t last for long
You might be dealing with some neglected maintenance from the previous owner. Also if you are running the same charge pipe and BOV you might want to run this BOV line adapter. Its cheap and you don't have to drill the manifold. vadersolution.com/products/vs-tmap-bov-line-adapter It's cheap and works really well! The BOV is much more responsive.

Your the reason I went with a 2012 335is I had a 04 e46 ZHP and I'm soo happy I have a 335is. But still isn't as fast as my 93 Honda civic hatchback swapped with a k24bottem end an a k20a head. Made 678 on 22psi. Maxed out the turbo at 40psi made 1,150hp.

@@GavinMalm with technology and affordable turbo kits building a Honda is pretty affordable. 700+hp in a 2,200lbs car and only spending average about 10-15k and 600+hp spending about 5k.
FCP FOR THE WIN!!, my coil packs keep misfiring once in a while, just happened to me last week , but glad FCP has lifetime warranty so I can keep getting new ones. ngk 2 step colder, and delphi coils. Delphi coils i had to replace 3 from FCP :(
FCP is the best! People shouldn't own these cars without knowing about their lifetime warranty. I have bought all my parts from them besides the VRSF Charge Pipe and BOV.

I had always heard about reliability issues with the N54s, but never found a complete list, so I’m glad you made this video. For the items you listed, how common are those issues and is there a typical mileage interval that they usually go bad? I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth it to pay the premium for a lower mileage vehicle or find one right over 100k miles (as I understand a lot of service items are usually taken care of around then).
Hey Jordan, welcome to the channel. I would say these issues are relatively common but like you said many owners have addressed them if they have owned the car for awhile. If you could find a car that has service records of these issues being addressed then I would be more willing to take a high milage car. Otherwise, I would look for a good balance between lower miles and a decent price especially with the 335is. Thanks again for stopping by. Checkout the video I did about the $7,000 in repairs my car needed. It didn't actually need $7,000 repairs, it more about finding a shop that does honest work.
Also depending on your 335is warranty covers your injectors, I put my vin in and it was covered. But they will only replace the ones that fail not replace all of them which is a shame.
Did the 335is N54 get the updated fuel pump like in the N55. I think 2013 they got the updated high pressure fuel pump. So did the 2013 N54 get that? Forums don’t say much
I personally would never replace the charge pipe with a OEM unit. The VRSF version is a great product that virtually makes it bomb proof. Thanks for checking out my channel!
N54Lyfe yeah I would say the VRSF unit is absolutely a better unit overall. You can switch to the TiAL BOV or stay with the factory diverted valves if you choose. If you decide to go BOV then also get the Vader Motorsports boost line connector. It all runs very smoothly. Glad I could respond quickly! Thanks again for supporting the channel!

You should change the belt and all the pulleys before they fail and suck the belt into the motor. Trust me on this I own a 2013 335is and the repair is not cheap.
I had the same thing happen with my 2011 E90, but it happened because the dealer screwed up the torquing when they put my engine back together after the Vanos Recall. Everything covered and a loaner X1, but without my car for almost a month...
I would say that’s a pretty good price but see if you can get them lower. Especially considering the current pandemic. Dealers aren’t selling as many cars are they typically have higher margins on used cars.

E93 are about 300+ lbs. heavier and do not have the PPK2 pony radiator.

I haven't heard much about that but I will have to check into it. I don't want to deal with that repair bill at all.
@@GavinMalm There is also a guard you can install behind the crank pulley. If you are on top of belt and pulley maintenance, you should be fine.
