    What about the high pressure fuel pump

    • @PrecisionSportIndustries
      @PrecisionSportIndustries  2 роки тому +7

      Great question! The HPFP is a very hit or miss issue. Surprisingly we see a lot of N54 cars coming in with well over 100k miles on their first HPFP with no issue. However, we have also seen cars come in with 60-80k miles and need a new one. Obviously once you go for more power and demand more from it, things might be different.

      HPFPs don't seem to be an issue anymore. BMW faced many lawsuits for n54 fueling issues back when the engine was still fairly new (cars would die randomly at highway speeds) and most if not all hpfp's have been recalled by now. However, if you're experiencing long cold starts and pressure drops in logs, the hpfp is definitely something to investigate.

    Valve cover gasket can be done in less than an hour. Oil filter housing gasket can be done in bout an hour and a half. Oil pan gasket 2 hour to 3 hour. Don't go to a shop that say they are going to spend 8 hours to do a 2 hour work

    My plan was to keep my manual transmission E60 535xi stock, turbo wastegate rattle caused me to upgrade my turbos, one thing led to another and I had to do everything he mentioned, I had to get intakes for the turbos, needed all 6 index 12 injectors (pricey), needed a walnut blast, valve cover and gasket, oil pan gasket, downpipes, full custom exhaust, charge pipe and BOV, and a custom tune, plus a bunch of more things, N54 upgrades can start at $300 and take you all the way up to $15000-$20000, be careful.

    I don’t understand why these cars are considered so unreliable. Everything mentioned here is accessory stuff. To make the same kind of power these engines can with just a tune I’d need to drop 10k to replace all the internals of my engine. Some occasional bad water pumps and seals don’t sound so bad

      I got my E92 09 335i Coupe with 172,000km back in September for $9000 (CAD). It has all service records going back several years with proof of maintenance. As others have mentioned, these cars can go many KMs if the maintenance is done right. I wouldn't be too worried on the price as long as you made sure the car didn't have a shoddy maintenance history.
      If you're not sure on maintenance, I would get the oil filter housing gasket replaced right away. If that starts to leak and the oil ends up on your accessory belt, the belt can slip off and get sucked into the engine through the crank seal. Once it's in there it'll get chewed up by the timing components and clog the oil pickup and destroy the engine from oil starvation. It sounds scary but it's happened to too many people who didn't watch out for oil leaks.
