    That tune on the piano is so good. Perfect for the nasty regretful hangover and hearing it louder when the bedroom door opens and realising it was someone actually playing and not just edited in was awesome. I myself had a friend's 30th birthday at our house and it was a good few hours of cleaning while feeling like garbage. Good times.

      next short: The sword. the AI predicts the gangs worst sides and deepest secrets, but in eachother. Jacob starts swinging, the neighbor joins in, Will reveals his last name: POWER. Cops show up, it's Cherdley and his homies, they are stripper cops. But they don't strip, they are showing their comic strips. The comic strip is a prediction of the future. as WILL POWER have defeated all of the people in the AirBNB, he realizes he'll be late to clean for his loving partner and screams NOOOO as the camera pans out to the universe edge, then back into the mouth of Will - pitch black. A match is lit, the pipe is lit, gandalf closes the book about WILL POWER, turns to his sword Glamdring and says - you've been through heck of a lot! Glamdring has its own couch and it's a close up of Glamdring for 30 seconds before Gandalf is laughing in joy, lifting it up - close to his face and then BAM from nowhere, it's the kiss cam from the hockey stadium. They kiss and live forever after. The whole arena applauds and sings happy birthday. The camera lens settings appears, the point of view travels from the lense to the cameraman. It's Joel Haver with his closing words: dream, and you can do anything. Credits roll. Curtains closes.

      @@Dave_the_Dave frankly I would prefer if more filmmakers aimed for 40-60 minutes as a running time as opposed to shoehorning in an arbitrary complication to pad it out to 90-100+ minutes. It's like there's this belief that movies "have to" be 80+ minutes long to be a real movie, but honestly I don't think anyone would complain if their theater experience was 40-60 minutes long or if movie plots were more straightforward without the obsessive need to shove twists into every nook and cranny. Who would complain about having _more_ free time?

    • @nairocamilo
      @nairocamilo Місяць тому

      @@BradenBestthat's because of ticket prices and cinema houses maintenance, I'd argue.
      However, I'd also argue that there'd be more movie competition if there were shorter films, so studios would rather longer movies to literally trap their audience into watching theirs

    • @BradenBest
      @BradenBest Місяць тому

      @@nairocamilo I see what you're getting at, but TV networks have no problem airing 11-minute shows, and likewise, with the advent of streaming, people can watch whatever they want, whenever they want. The way TV "locks you in" is that every network is competing for your attention in the same timeslot ("prime time"), whereas in a theater, movies play on loop, so they're not really competing, per se. Someone may decide they have a limited budget and have to choose which single movie they want to watch, but the length of the movie has little to do with that decision.
      I feel like shorter movies would actually _benefit_ Hollywood in production, the cinema, and on streaming.
      In production, Hollywood doesn't have to spend as much on filler since the movie is only as long as the plot and pacing demand. Actors could likewise have more options when it comes to how they use their time.
      In the cinema, the movies play on loop and people may decide to watch multiple movies, or to watch movies more often in general, since it's not as much of a time investment. They may even watch movies they otherwise wouldn't have for that same reason.
      On streaming, there isn't really competition in the same sense as the box office, as people pay for a subscription and then watch whatever they want, whenever they want. The actual customer is the streaming service that sub-licenses the movies, and what the streaming services want is volume. Making the movies shorter means the customers can watch more movies in the same amount of time. Higher volume, more consumption. Think about how popular "shorts" on tiktok/youtube/etc have gotten in the wake of the average video length being like 30 minutes.
      Frankly, it's weird that movies still have an average runtime of 85 minutes. Then again I guess old money media has always been a little slow to catch up with the internet. So maybe it will happen.

The thoughtfulness of the interactions between characters are all the more impressive given it being one take within the time window of the Oscars. I love how "raw" this is. The drunk texting, discussing how to damage control with your friends, being stuck in an impossibly awkward social situation, that one friend who suddenly turns psycho after he feels you've slighted him... Watching these moments was definitely uncomfortable, yes. But I found great value in that, too - the fact that these tough moments are inextricable from life. When you're in these inescapable moments, you just want to sink into yourself, avert your gaze, cease existing. But you end up looking back at them wistfully, knowing the strong emotions tied to those events mean you've lived. Thus, you learn to embrace them.
    To summarize my feelings in just three words, the sentiment -
    "Such is life."

    I feel like I have tasted perfectly grilled grilled cheese as the flaws each character has are so pronounced that I expected all of them to have some kind of flaw but instead they are all so human and so defined and unique I thought anything could happen and flaws don't define the characters and oh my goodness I loved Jacob's character, everything he did felt so viscerally impactful and purposeful and just wow I think my whole viewpoint was suspended further every time Jacob talked or was just in frame, I can relate heavily to carrying around the sword he received on his birthday, and with him reciting it's origin just goodness, I might have cried if Jacob dropped the sword.
    I had an ache in my chest worrying for Ted's relationship and it persisted even after the end when I wanted so badly to continue watching what their next reaction would be to what happens next like I was frozen, and even now the ache is still thawing waiting for what Ted will do next.
    Will fit right in as the guy that acts as a kind of mediator and holds the group together well, cleaning up messes and being cheerful, I relied on Will to hopefully carry the story to a happy end.
    I liked Dominick's role and his motivation behind the app being told, since I also want to strive to make more money, and perhaps just like me Dominick wants the assurance that having more money will give so that he can keep hanging out with his buddies.
    The last character was so out of the blue but so vivid and colorful I felt they could navigate anything with confidence and it was truly a blessing to see how they handled the situation where I who was just like the first four characters was stumped in muted horror by the situation the last character truly showed a prominent role and gave me an ending I couldn't stop waiting for.
    Truly a masterpiece of a film and I don't need any credentials to say it, I loved this video to the core.

The way you (and your friends) can straddle the line between sadness and humor is really interesting, and I'm honestly a bit surprised over how emotional this film made me. To meet someone who you just really vibe with and who can overlook your silly little mistakes is really something special, and I think you portrayed that perfectly. Also really liked the touch at the end that the film stopped before we got to see their future, because in reality you can never predict your future together. You just gotta live it.

    surprisingly tense movie that really nails the bitter-sweet feeling of relief after being reassured about something you've been stressing about for an extended period of time.
    the first half felt a little dragged out mostly by the awkward acting method which, no doubt, was executed amazingly especially considering the fact that everything was shot one-take. from what i understand the characters are supposed to be old buddies who used to hang out often but now have a lot of responsibilites in their personal life like a long term relationship or a time-consuming job. even knowing that, witnessing their chemistry and the way they interact makes it feel as if they are all strangers to each other, barely any interactions or slight bias to each other. i may not be at all in my 30s but i don't think this is how old pals should act around one another, especially after a wild night.
    the second half is where the film really picks up for me: the tension, the reactions, the tiny little details in any and all of the characters actions and (my personal favourite) the slow introduction into each character's personality, this introduction happens throughout the whole movie but i like it much more in the second half. i really enjoyed how, approaching closer to the reveal of the text to keily, will started acting more hostile towards the mc, really shows how passionate he can get even after seemingly innocent nervous speech about his passion. personally loved jacob and dominique: jacob on how he starts to finally open up towards the end and dominique because of the scene next to the pool, it really helps the narrative of different types of relationship and the way he spoke really made it feel like he was talking to a long-term girlfriend, made me feel very warm especially in the middle of the tension.
    got hooked by the direction, the nice setting and honestly the beautiful piano passage, stayed for the tension and the characters.
