I have the Christopher Ward dress watch C595 with the same movement and totally Swiss made. Super thin, only 5.95mm. At the time CW were selling them for around £600. A stunning dress watch, which in my opinion far outweighs this Baltic dress watch and at around half the price.
Ah, come on, I take your point but that was 2018! Not a chance in hell that they'd bring it out for anywhere near that price now. They also, crucially, don't even sell it anymore. The NOMOS Tangente also used to use this movement and cost more than the CW. I get that it maybe could be cheaper, and that's a point I make in the video, I acknowledge it's steep, but I don't think comparing it to pieces from six years ago is entirely fair 😅
Baltic is cashing in on the hype around the brand, which is fine. It’s just a thing to consider when you want to pull the trigger on one of their watches. There are better watches on the market for that price, including Baltics own catalog. I really like the Lapislazuli dial, it’s not enough though to buy one.
I love the dial, I love all colours and i absolutely love the specs given I have a 6.25” wrist. But the price is a deal breaker sorry. Loved the review though
Thanks for your prompt response, always appreciated. Your points are valid and taken. Personally, I still wouldn’t pay that much. Although as you mentioned, other brands with the same movement, whose prices are also in this ballpark and some are even more pricey. Another great video. Thanks
I think with the VAT on top, it's a different proposition. I wish CW still did the C595, btw! Whenever I see them up on eBay or FB groups, I always have to stop myself from picking one up. As most of my vids will attest to, I love a thin watch!
This a gorgeous watch. The price turns me off but only because my watch budget isn’t that high. If I had that kind of money for a watch, I’d be grabbing something else. But that’s more of a me problem than a Baltic problem. Great vid.
Nice one, Brian! They're definitely pricing it above some of their other pieces, but it's also a lot more exotic and uses different materials. I think it's almost divided opinions, at least judging by these comments! Haha. Didn't know something like this would be so divisive. I think at this price you do end up with A LOT of choices! Especially if you go on eBay or the secondary market. Always appreciate your comments and opinions, Brian 🤘
The three boutiques remind me of the three sanctums from the Doctor Strange Marvel movie! The watch is nice but too expensive and the crown is too finicky for a manual wind watch.
In order to maintain the rhyme scheme of WB Yeats' poem, it should be the more American-sounding pronunciation "laz-uh-lee", to rhyme with "longevity". I'm all for British pronunciation but I'm never gonna question an Irish hero of mine. There are about 5 ways of pronouncing it, though! The red one looks stunning too, mate, but I thought it might look a bit too similar to my freckles, tbh
I'm now finally at the point where I have some time to go back and do that, but I'm realising I might have to abandon my plans to read the classics before 2025... :P
The watch is crazy 🤪 over priced. Pretty dial sure. But the price is not commensurate for a brand that is just beginning to build itself. Lots of great pre-owned watches in this price range. Or you can just save up a little bit more and get something with real brand heritage and long-term value like Longines, vintage Universal Geneve, vintage omega or vintage zenith. Nice cash grab by Baltic tho. Respect. They know how to play the money 💰 game.
I don't know if they are just beginning to build themselves, though, are they?? Haven't they been around for a good few years now? I think based on the movement and materials, it's priced about where I would expect, maybe a bit high once you factor in tax. But the tax isn't going to Baltic, it should be said. And I say this any time people bring up buying vintage pieces ("Don't make me tap the sign" etc.) but people don't want to take the risk with vintage pieces. I include myself in that. Why would I go and buy a vintage piece just to have Omega written on it that doesn't have the warranty and more modern components this does? Some people might want that, and that's fair enough, but I don't. Also, surely by the chasing money logic, they'd make more than 600 of them? I dunno. I don't wanna sit here defending them because that's not my job. I think they've made a really nice watch, with some flaws - which I pointed out clearly - but once you factor in the taxes, depending on the region, it might be considered a little pricey
@LumePip Baltic has never seen a recession, a war, or the equivalent of a quartz crisis. They are what I would call a bull market brand. Conceived, built, and grown through an up cycle. Compare them to Longines that has been in business since 1832. You can buy brand new at retail longines dress watches for about $1,300. As to the limited edition, this whole launch is a trial run for them to move up market in price. If this is successful, which I imagine it will be because Baltic is good at marketing, more stone dials will come. The fact they are letting influencers keep their 000 copies shows you this is not a real limited edition. It's a marketing ploy to trigger a sense of false scarcity. And that's fine. That's just business. But for you not to comment on that is not a" fair and unbiased" take (in my opinion). It's still a very nice-looking watch . Just a tad overpriced in my opinion. I would rather own a Longines. PS. I hear you on the vintage watches. It's not for everyone. PPS. Thanks for being open to a different point of view ✨️ You appear to he a genuine person, and I'd love to see your channel thrive
@@BigT71 That's fair enough, but if I could answer some of your points, I really do appreciate the time you've taken to comment so I'd like to reciprocate that. Baltic hasn't seen those things, you're right (although the Russian invasion of Ukraine has destabilised other sectors and I'm sure plenty would argue these aren't exactly peaceful times), but I don't think that makes them a bull market brand. They started with pieces, like loads of the micros, on Kickstarter. I know they use third-party movements and stuff but again, that's nothing new. And Longines can sell dress watches for $1300, but it's a very different business. It's owned by the Swatch Group and has global distribution and a strong physical presence in all regions. They also mass produce their watches, because they obviously have that history and those supply lines and logistical issues just aren't a thing for them. (You won't pay tax on top of your Longines purchase because you're not in France, for example). I'm sure the models sent to influencers (although I'm not sure how much influence I exert personally! 🤣) were factored into their marketing budget. I do appreciate that me doing this video is part of their marketing strategy, but I can't say objectively that the limited number categorically is a marketing ploy to trigger false scarcity. If I said that or implied it, as I'm sure you appreciate, I'd be in legal trouble, because, given the information in front of me, that's a baseless accusation. I do acknowledge very clearly in the video that it's going to be considered quite steep in terms of price for many. I spend literally a third of the video talking about the drawbacks, so I categorically don't buy the notion that this is somehow shilling or that I'm being unfair. I hope that that comes across on my other videos, because whether or not I've been provided a watch for review, loaned one, lent one by a friend, or bought one myself, I give every piece a fair shake. Also, I reviewed the Longines Spirit 37 and absolutely loved it, and it's one I'd love to own myself, so don't blame you for wanting a Longines either! Thanks again for the very considered response. I hope you can enjoy more videos of mine and I really appreciate the kind words.
It’s a beautiful watch, but it’s not quite for me. Mainly because I don’t have really a need for a dress watch. Especially one that’s $1,400... It’s a bit pricey. I think it’s worth it, but pricey nonetheless. And don’t get me started on what you poor Brits have to deal with. Thanks for the great review!
Thanks, mate 🙌That may be the issue many have with it, mate! Someone else made the point that one could potentially get vintage Universal Geneve, Omega, or Zenith, which I think is a good point. I suppose in that case it comes down to modern materials etc. As for what we have to deal with, trust me, VAT is the tip of the iceberg! 🤣
Baltic straight up think its Longines now price wise, since they managed to pull some suckers in by selling them a microrotor chinese movement packaged into a parisian fashion watch case. Pass.
Very nice watch, but the price is frankly laughable. They should have made this a quartz with only 2 hands and forgot about the titanium case core, what's the point of that anyway on a dress watch? Make it a quartz 2 hander and price it at 450 euros and we're talking. This price is just a cash grab, trying to move upmarket. In some sense I'm happy for their success, but it would be great to see a watch brand moving upmarket without doing the usual watch industry bullshit. Maybe Christopher Ward is a good example. Baltic and Furlan Mari? Not really. At least it has sapphire. I would not have been surprised if they insisted on an acrylic chrystal.
I actually got into an argument with the owner about exactly this. Dude is a total narcissist and basically told me to go f myself if I don't like the price
420 euro for a quartz? Have you lost your mind! The automatic should be at that price, it's people like you that give these companies the excuse over charge on everything!

But you have to be careful you dont succumb to the "this is free but they didnt pay me for my opinion" BS. You cant build a channel on that.
