EDIT: IN THE VIDEO YOU CAN SEE THE DISPLAY STILL SHOWS KM ON RANGE SCREEN HOWEVER IT WAS READING MILES NOT KILOMETERS. I DID TRACK THIS ON THE GPS SO I'M 100% OF THAT. Edit: Km vs miles display was discussed on other comments - thanks, Chris!16:45 27.8 kilometers (KM), not miles, of range, I believe. That's about 17 miles. Only the speed was displayed in mph. Also, I think this is like the ~20th e-bike review. If you still have all of them, can you get a big group of people together to do a group ride to compare all of the e-bikes at once? That would look epic! Thank you for including the easily paus-ible clips of the owner's manual too!

Certainly a creative design. The battery being integrated into the seat post, the rotating handle-bars, mid motor, adjustable kick-stand, hinged frame etc... all adds up to being quite a compact bike. The only thing I worry about these offshore manufactured bikes is what happens when you need parts in a few years. The company may be here today, but gone tomorrow. Good luck getting a replacement latch, replacement battery pack etc. (update, I looked at their website, and see they've been in business for 30 years, so that's reassuring, although, one wonders how long they keep spare parts in inventory)

As a kc mo area resident, I'll say you put your town and area in a really good light with all your video work. Makes me interested for a visit to the area.
Dahon bikes have been around a long time, very well known for their folding bikes. I have one from 1987.. not electric though - would LOVE this one. Had a GT Charger with a 1/2 horsepower front mount motor and hub gears in the rear so your review is quite similar to my experience with that bike, wish I still had it today with lithium batteries in it. It would shut off at 20 mph by limiter

Hi Chris. Hope this helps as it looks like this bike it set for our dumb law. Here in the UK the law says a ebike can only have 250W motor max with a max assisted speed of 15.5mph. It cant have a throttle it must be paddle activated assist. So the motor will have to stop helping at 15.5mph. Anything more than this it has to be fully registered insured and taxed as a motorbike

This seems like a very nice commute bike. Foldable, light, and good range. It's got a nice display, good brakes and an adequate gearset. You don't need suspension and all the flash to get from point A to B. I would think it's attractively priced. Chris, you always do the best reviews...

I bought a mid drive ebike kit and converted a regular mt bike to an ebike and its a monster. It will do 30 mph which is crazy but with the gears used as a transmission its truly a game changer.
which one did you buy, how is your range?
@scottww6057 bafang 48 volt 750 watt motor, 11.6 Ah shark battery. Never really have done a range test, I mostly to light trail rides when we go camping. You can buy what ever size battery you need including two batteries, one on a rear rack if needed.
Ive only ever ridden the mid drive, now I kind of want to try out a hub motor to see how that is. There is a place called the golden nugget in spread eagle wi, it is not a flea market.
$2700, seems a bit overpriced to me.

Mid-drives are definitely the way to go especially with any hilly terrain. It's unfortunate that most of the mid-drives are underpowered for a commute with a lot of hills. Even the name-brand bikes with Bosch or Yamaha motors are only 350-500w and overpriced. If you've got a pretty level commute then something like the Dahon would be fine. Otherwise, the way to go is with a Bafang 750w mid-drive or greater, but they're limited to fat-tire bikes unless you transform your own bike with a kit. I had a RadRover a few years ago and while it was a great ride, the tires were no match for the kiawe thorns and changing flats on a rear hub is a chore. A quality thorn-resistant tire like ones that Schwalbe make work well against such thorns, but they don't make them for tire widths greater than 3-inches. I've tried tire liners and sealants, but the best they could do was slow down the leak. Keep up the e-bike reviews. Perhaps I'll see the right bike reviewed here.

Honestly I don't have any single one favorite. They all have their ups and downs. It really depends on what you're looking for. For me, range is the biggest consideration so longer range the better
Hey all these reviews on these bikes do you get to keep them all or do you have to return them?
It showed km for the trip meter, is that a program error in the display or was it kilometers? Seems to be built to fulfill the restrictions set by EU. My friends who have that type of engine love it but say it's more vulnerable to dirt. Great video!
Yeah I think that was something weird with the computer. I meant to go over in the video but must have forgot to. It was definitely miles
Chris you need to use a Pedal wrench , not a cone wrench to tighten the pedals. Over all the video was great.

Dahon also has the k one plus which is 250 watts, run about $2k which is less than the electrix brompton. The rear hub version is 1500

Yeah very compact indeed. And pretty scary to see these things catch on fire on the news here and there. Probably best to store them in a location outside of the house or motorhome to be safe

Yes definitely based on my experience with it. Much more torquey especially in the low gears.

Hey Chris, my concern with E-bikes is that when the battery reaches the end of it's life, the bike company might be out of business and your bike will be un usable. Or that after a few years with the battery tech changing so fast, the battery may be unavailable. What are your thoughts?
Yes I agree that is a major consideration and one of the reasons it's worth buying from a bigger name company. But even then they may have changed the model or battery. However a lot of these batteries are rebuildable with not too much effort and a solder gun

I'll make you a deal you come do a will it run video on my 60 Biscayne will put a fresh distributor swapping out the points put an electric fuel pump in the tank and maybe fix the fuel pedal linkage possibly drive-by-wire. And I will give you my 87 Grand Prix it would run low 13s before the motor locked up at 2000 ft in ElPaso the trans the rear end are still in good shape and the tires are more less new. It's worth at least a grand but I'd rather not scrap it.
Are you sure it was 27 miles? There was a km abbreviated above it.
Yes it was definitely miles. I checked it on my gps. I'm not sure why that still said km. I actually meant to talk about that in the video. Must have forgot to.

I meant to speak about this in the video but forgot to. After switching it over to miles, for some reason it still said km on one of the modes. However it wasn't actually reading km. It was reading miles and I did verify with my GPS

I've been riding this bike for about a month ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxwC0IIeIomGQVeBWg-kKJaToZkLEFIA2W and a half now and I think it's fantastic. It helps me get to work on time every day since I'm able to fit it inside of public transportation rush hour. The price is great too, people are always shocked when they ask me how much I paid for the fold up and I tell them "200". It's easy to fold and installation when it ships is insanely easy. All you have to install when the bike arrives is one foot pedal, everything else is done for you. I do recommend you carry some sort of wrench to tighten any loose screws on the handle bar and seat whenever they get a little bit loose. Other than that I think it's a fantastic bike. Easily fits in the home, can fit inside a car trunk and can even fit in subway rush hour.

Compared to other trend E-bikes, basically you're trading off of power for lighter weight. More importantly Dahon's customer support is awful they don't support their warranty they promised.
The threading strategy for keeping the pedals tight seems to be opposite what it should be. Better have a closer analysis... or maybe these are British bikes.
