I own two of these Maxim 650 bikes, and that is one incredible restoration! Perfect in every detail, side covers, chrome pieces, and does it sound sweet. First one I bought was totaled by the insurance company after someone failed to yield for me, bike is almost almost undamaged, but repairs would have cost more than the company wanted to pay. I found an identical, 1982 Xj650 J, only in black, and picked it up. Really handy to have a parts bike to cannibalize off of. These bikes were supposedly extremely quick in the quarter mile, and wind up incredibly fast. The shaft drive is so nice, no chain to mess with, lubricating all the time, and won't stretch like a belt can. Very comfortable ride, extremely responsive.
I have a 1980 XJ650 maxim I'm rebuilding, it has 63334 miles, when stored its only been in the garage. It should be running & ill be riding it again in about 2 weeks.
I love mine so much. Girlfriend has said multiple times you better not get rid of it. 5'2 and that was the most aggression I've ever heard out of her voice🤣🤣🤣 she loves the maxim so much. I love thinking it's a crotch rocket on a cruiser frame which it entirely Is I absolutely love the xj purr even nastier straight piped with dyno jets sounds very angry.🤙🤙
I have an 84 Honda vf 700c, with 340 k miles. Only normal maintainence, was perfomed on the bike. Still has good power, and shifts smoothly. But it was never beat.
My red Maxim 650 1982 has only 6387 Kilometers located in Quebec Canada.I bought it new. Always stored inside. Perfect running condition. I am now too old to ride it.
very nice looking bike! My first bike was a 1983 550 Maxim (XJ550K), beautiful red and really scooted. Been looking for one ever since I let it go in '92...
Bought mine 1981 frost silver beautiful bike live in western Kentucky was 19 road to Daytona Beach Florida recently purchased a Vulcan as I would love to have my maxim back wash Yamaha steel made bikes that look like that and performed as well. Midnight edition‘s were beautiful 850s, 1200 it was a good time to have a bike wish Yamaha would bring them back
I test rode one of these back in 2007, not as mint as this one, but still pretty decent looking and engine was in good condition. I am so sorry *now* that I did not take it.
I bought a 1981 650 Midnight Maxim special edition beautiful fast bike. After about 2 years I T-Bone a pickup truck at about 60 miles an hour. Which kind of hurt! 4-year recovery.
I know of one my brother inlaws father has is the black and gold edition think it has 2000 original miles never restored loks like brand new think the 2000 miles on it was around the block couple times a year. And its less than 25 miles from you.

Why do it sound like that? That the sound of the shart drive rotatin round.i had one a buddy wrecked it i paid 300 bucks for it the owner bought brand new he fell down at a stop an broke his arm he swore he was done with bikes and sold it to me.as luck would have it .my buddy begged me to loan it to him for 20min to run an errand.shit some pal he blew the debt off.i will say they are fast.take care nice to see somebody talking about them.this came with a step seat an sissy bar and some ridiculos pull backs i strioped all that off and made like your museum piece there
Back in '88 I bought an '82 650 Maxim. Loved that bike. Looking at this piece of art is making me nostalgic.

Yamama is SWEET. I rode a XJ650 on my daily commute to and from school every day while I attended MMI Phoenix Campus from '07-'09. Great commuter!
My gosh. Labor of love and beautifully done! I love it. Cowl goes so nicely on it. Timeless if you ask me. They set a new bar when they came out.

Maxim 750 was my very first bike a few decades ago and it was a beautiful ride. Mine had the square headlight. I miss it :\
