holy shit thank you for including vega gpus unlike other channels
Yea I was happy to see that as well. I have a V56 so it was good to see how it stacked up to the new GPU's. I can say for sure other than my card using a bit more juice I am not worried in the slightest. My card OC'd and bios flashed to v64 bios is about as fast as the 2070 Super or within 1-2% of it so right in line with the new Navi's and I only paid $260USD new for my V56 on sale so even better price to performance there.
Ummmm....GN included Vega
Yep, grabbed a Vega 56 when they dropped to $299 with free games a couple months ago and still glad I did. However, love seeing the drop in TDP and what this will bring for the next release of cards and then what Nvidia brings next as well. Same with Ryzen 3000, I'll probably stick with my 2600x for another year or two and see if they eek out Ryzen 4000 before moving on from AM4, otherwise will get a 3600/x or 3700/x when they drop in price by then just to extend my X470.
In the meantime, I really hope they bring out the Navi APU's and can still run on B350 motherboards and stay 65w tdp. If I could get 1080p low/med out of my little InWin BQ656 build by swapping out the 2200g for a 4200g or whatever... would be insane.
They're the best and are highly underrated
Yeah, man! Vega 56 in Brazil now costs as much as the GTX 1660Ti. Really interesting pricing.
- AMD vs Intel/Nvidia
- Steve vs Sleep
Somehow we win both fights. Thanks for both vids on day 1 👍
Nvidia remains the best-of-the-best with its RTX 2080 Ti, but I know majority of gamers don't care about this.
Looks like the RX 5700 finally is direct competition to the GTX 1080, finally something to properly surpass the old R9 290/390X and bring competition, even if it took them 3 years (also its cousins RTX 2070 and 2060-Super).
Whereas the RX 5700xt is direct competition to the GTX 1080 Ti, and is somewhat less impressive, but its only 2 years behind (also its cousins RTX 2080 and 2080-Super).
And now suddenly, the rumours about next year's PS5 and Xbox V having graphical performance that's around the GTX 1080 is not looking like wishful-thinking but actual reality. So it looks like we can expect proper 4K/High Settings/60fps-FreeSync on the upcoming consoles for both lighter games (F1 2019) and heavy games (FarCry New Dawn).
@@ekinteko yeah I feel like nvidia is still the best bet for high end gaming, a good choice for midrange, but entry level cards like the rx 580 are great value from amd
@@ekinteko not sure where you got the 4k for consoles thing but it is hard enough to run 4k at 60 fps on the high end. Consoles would have to wait another generation or do some sort of upscaling
@@rudysal1429
If the leaks are true, and they're from respected sources so it seems so. Then yeah, PS5 and Xbox V are going to hit 4K at 60fps. They'll have FreeSync too for the new TVs.
It can do it with a GTX 1080 performance. You just won't be getting Ultra Settings on graphics, instead you will get High Settings. Which isn't a deal-breaker during fast-paced gameplay and sitting a metre away from the screen.
In fact, Sony's saying it will support 8K TVs... obviously this would be with Checker-boarding, lower Medium Settings, and probably at 30fps locked.
Still these are great signs to see consoles put up some competition with PC Gaming... it reminds me of the launches of the PS2 and Xbox 360, unlike the launch of the original PS4/XB1 which was disappointing from PC Gaming perspective.
@@brokengames9020 I think you should make a vacation far away from your computer and smartphone. It's not doing you any good...

One of the few serious reviews of these first Navi cards. With decent foresight into the new architecture. It will look good for a very long time. Others can't say so much.
Right? It's a weird thing to point out but Hardware Unboxed's video quality, especially their audio is just so good. It's loud enough, high quality enough, isn't too muffled and constantly switching between different inputs too. Small detail but hugely appreciated. Not to mention how they have the cleanest, best and my personal go-to benchmark charts compared to other channels who have either too clustered, too simplified or annoyingly badly designed charts.
I'm actually impressed with AMD at this moment let's hope their prices drop and they do not capture overclock
Steve thx for this vid. You and your team at HUB did a great job. I watched half an dozen 5700 (XT) related videos today and you delivered the clearest, most informative and least opinion-heavy benchmarking video I saw today. I'm a big fan of DF as well, but your graphical presentation made it very easy for me who isn't a native english speaker.
Thank you for including a freaking 1080. Everyone seems to have forgotten the damn 1080 exists or something.

NVIDIA: RTX on
AMD: MSRP on
RTX is crap wish they would make something cool like an ai for the tensor cores to work on instead of stupid shadow bs
cause Nvidia goes on and on about making these awesome ai's that can play why not make something basic that can learn and improve over time it does not have to be perfect it could be so so at first as with ai it learns like a real person so being soso is fine it will get better with time as it learns just make us something to play with and let us use it how we like cause they keep on talking about ai but we still as of yet have nothing to to play with they still have nothing to show for all their talk about ai and with rtx having tensor cores which is supposed to be great for ai learning why not make us a simple ai that can learn and play with us either as a friend or advisory or both
I just bought a Ryzen 3600 and Radeon 5700 XT. And I come from an Intel + Nvidia setup. Feels good to have AMD back again. Competition is always best for the consumer!

I don't understand your conclusion, 2070S price gets inflated simply because too many people buying them that drives the price high, or production cannot keep up with demand. Price never increase if demand < supply.
Vương Ân nah nvidia has always been a lot more expensive
@@techwick7969 like 3 years ago Nvidia was the best way to go performance wise, now AMD is coming close and now AMD raises it's prices too.

Also, looking by the forza horizon 4 benchmark.. If all games were equally optimized for AMD/Nvidia, 5700XT would be the best selling card for that price.
yeah was blown away when it matches the rtx 2080 ti which is a 1200 card.
AMD cards have always been heavily underutilized. RX 480 for example has 30% more TFLOPs, transistor count, and memory bandwidth than the GTX 1060 yet performs about the same. The horsepower is there, it's just often held back for whatever reason.
@@Malus1531 libraries and development kits from nvidia for game developers results in this biasing. It is evident from fortinite and ue4 games which are heavily optimised for nvidia and intel

Interesting you put the 2070 super as the competition for the 5700xt rather than the 2060 super, considering the 2060 super and 5700xt are the same price
I get the feeling he filmed some of this before the price reduction came in, makes the XT to 2070 Super and non-xt to 2060 super comparisons make more sense as i think that would have been more the line up had prices not been dropped.
@@daweitao2668 Oh true, yeah, most of these guys have probably had the gpus for over a week, so yeah that makes a lot more sense. Thanks!

Thank you Steve for all the work you've done in the past week and before.
Awesome review, I really love the costs per frame slides and the % difference in performance overall slides, you usually dont see that with other reviewers.
there is to much discrepancies between all of reviews today.
I'm going to wait a bit longer before deciding something.
Wait for bios and drivers.
day 1 buys on brand new tech is usually a bad idea anyway
yeah GN wasn't as happy with the noise or performance as this review.
Matthew Way I think GN had broken drivers
that's always the best move
Remember, price wise, Radeon 5700 series goes against 2060 series and they are beating them. So Radeon is coming as a winner.
It actually beat the 2060 Super, which is a higher priced card
and stores sell 2060 at higher prices (the non super versions)
Yes, but, these prices are super high still. This isn't a great time to buy still. People should really wait for prices to drop more... I mean, if you wanted this kind of performance, you should have already bought it by now, because Vega 56 is still available for CHEAPER (albeit with very limited choice of cooler style, and not available to everyone at good prices like you can find in North America right now. The 1070 ti has also been around for ages, and also offered similar value (and, along with Vega, is a great option if you want to look for something on the used market which is similar in performance and power efficiency to the 5700).
Objectively speaking, for those who does 3D work with a lot of light rays calculations, the 2060 Super is far better tho. But if you're purely a gamer then with that price 5700 seems to be a better choice atm.
@@williamjake100 "light rays calculations" don't even need a GPU. The RTX implementation is strictly for real time simulations and games.
Huge thanks for your review. Besides GN, you are the only channel so far that not only show the FPS in games, but more importantly ( to me ) the actual in game thermals with fans speeds. Well done.
Look at the current market value, this is absolute win for Vega 56 in term of price/perf ratio.

@@jakeedwards4454 its usually 3 weeks - month until air cool.models. Dont buy blower style model, hold off the temptation lol it will be worth it..
@Justin Edwards yeah..they do keep it cool enough to not hit temp.limit. but there pretty much ideal onlyonly for in cases of very limited air flow like itx cases or oem. (Since its pushing the air out thru vents in the i/o area) Really people dont like them, due to card at 75c+ (even with fans at 70%+, at stock oc settings + 50 PL) and blower style cool cards for sure have louder single fan(compared to air cool) that most people dont like. Air cool models have up to 3 fans , on certain cards.
Now sure ive came around air cool model gpus like asrocks implementation where even then, the rx 580 temps where at 75-80c and fans where at 80-90% (very audible).

They were thermal throttling here with the power limit bumped up with default fan curve just like gamer nexus. Gamer nexus just also included hot spot temps for the gpu. The default fan curve is about 53dba stock gamer nexus had really bad temps when he tuned it to 40db but thats just a blower cooler
Yeah, GN Steve was really negative... even when there was a positive point to make he always had a 'but'...
@@Demon09-_- Thank you for clarifying, I must have missed that part.
You can undervolt 5700 XT and it will perform as good as it does overclocked! Making it even more powerefficient than 2070 Super which is amazing.
Not really: ua-cam.com/video/IrKUZoEzAfY/v-deo.html
Navi is not Vega, doesn't benefit as much from undervolting...
This channel needs more subs definitely. Accurate results and details. My favourite tech channel IMHO.
Another very well review from techspot.
It's detailed.
The tables are clear and simple.
I like reviews of this channel..
Thanx..
So I just checked out your 1080p graphs on patreon and saw the 5700XT beating the 2080 ti at Forza Horizon 4. WHAT??
Forza is a really bad game for nvidia and pretty much like hair works lv bad for amd. Not surw what causes it but its a huge outlier
It's a well optimized game
@@T51B1 not for nvidia GPUs apparently, though they still run quite well. This just hypes me for Navi more, I absolutely love forza horizon.
Its a shame about the blower noise (Hardware Canucks db test), or id get these AMD reference cards. Having to wait for more expensive and quieter partner cards offsets the value of the reference price drop.
Partner cards will be faster so they should still be better than Nvidia's Super cards.
Great work as always Steve! And thanks a lot for the reviews! But I noticed you referred to the RTX 2070 as "RX 2070" in 5:37 :b
Good info, Great review, Cheers.
AMD products are looking impressive.
"I'd be really nice to get these cards at MSRP prices"
In Australia it will be at least 40% price hike
Nice Honest Navi review, that cost per frame chart is the one to look at, thanks for all your hard work, best Navi review video imho, thanks :-)
Your reviews put most other techtubers to shame, thanks for putting in so much work guys!
Hi Steve, thanks for a review.
I would argue that 5700 series is Polaris replacement, not Vega ones. So improvement is huge. We should see how better 5700 is compared to Radeon 590 (same number of cores).
Also, 5700 XT really goes against 2060 Super (not so super anymore) and 5700 goes against 2060 (as they have same prices) and in both cases AMD is simply better.
No. The 5700XT was competing against the vanilla 2070 and the Non-XT against the vanilla 2060...what is a surprise is these navi cards are mostly faster than the super variants.
@@VoldoronGaming it is a polaris replacement at only 255mm^2.
I didn't think Amd wins in tdp. But Its finally wins. Waiting for Nvidia lovers fury
Wow! They turned out way better than I expected. Even the OCing headroom with lower temps is mighty impressive.
Great review!
IDK how you do your tests, but your tests for Ryzen 3000 and Navi are vastly different from Linus, Gamersnexus and other channels, Linus mentioned something strange is going on, but the differences so far are pretty big, i hope it would be cleared soon.
Linus is owned by nvidea.
I see it too but probably driver issues also not everyone uses the same CPU to test. Some use the 9900k at 5.0ghz some use at 4.8ghz. some u at 5.1. the 5700xt still a good card.
If Nvidia drops the rtx 2060super to 349 I bet that would be better since it be 50 cheaper n even though rtx is useless atm it be nice to test games out that supports it.
If u have micro center near u can get the 5700 for 299 n the 5700xt at 349 when u buy a ryzen 3000 CPU.3600or higher
@@NeVErseeNMeLikEDis Yeah, i suspect more of a chipset/memory/cpu and windows scheduling type of an issue
@@boby my guess is driver issues
Radeon drivers are usually crap on release so not very surprising.
I just hope that with better drivers all of them are getting numbers as good as shown here
A few key takeaways on this review vs GN. Firstly they used different test bench and different games tested, also HU seemed to be on press drivers vs GN mentioned using release ones. Gns card seemed to be a dud at overclocking as well as he said the 5700xt was a poor overclocker and this seemed like it overclocked very well which could be bunning or likely drivers.
Then in the presentation HU did not include overclocked numbers where GN did which resulted him often comparing significantly overclocked Nvidia models vs AMD base numbers which did not benefit from an overclock at all. This ended up with him basically showing the 2600S beating or tying 5700xt at every turn. Considering that he even said overclocking was not working with the release drivers it seems like Nvidia had a large advantage.
GN focused heavily on not liking the blower fan while HU admitted it was a bit loud but wasn't so phased by it. HU focused much less on the cooling which was adequate but not great but put in charts showing stock vs stock speeds and prices which AMD came out a definite winner.
So who was wrong? Well neither really, if you are a practical gamer who cares about price to performance and can live with a little higher noise and heat in your rig the AMD cards win hands down. If you are a hardware tweaker who wants to OC everything or want the best lowest noise and thermals. Then you may be dissapointed with these and that overclocking at least on release drivers might not working might be a big letdown for you as well. Even though I've disagreed with HU on a lot of other issues I personally think HU got it right here. But many others may say the blower and possible lack of OC potential are deal breakers for them. And if that's true for them they aren't really wrong either. All comes down to what's important for you in the end.
That OC limit especially on the 5700 sucks hard!
Same for the new Ryzen 3000 Cpu
@@ichi2k oc limit on ryzen?
Is overclocking really needed when IPC is alrdy this good on ryzen? I rather undervolt that overclock as boost clocks can get really really high
Navi... first gen product not expecting much but kinda expecting more OC for a GPU
@@ichi2k I don't think there's an artificial limit on the Ryzen 3000s though. They just don't have much headroom and the "boost" features are well implemented.
I bet that rx5700 would make rx5700xt useless if would clock the same. Performance difference would fall to just 5-8%
I wanna point out that, at least in my phone, the gpu fan circle in thumbnail, aligns perfectly to youube's loading animation cirle, it is sooo satisfying
Thank you again for you reviews Steve!! Great as always. It does seem though that this is kind of a best case scenario for the navi cards, the "limited" amount of games (in comparison to some of your other reviews) and the fact that you get all the best case scenario videogames for amd here i believe skews the results in their favor, as far as i can see from all the reviews out there (there are a lot with a huge variety of games). Doesn'y really change the fact that, when it comes to performance per dollar these are good cards. Cheers
Excited to see what happens with aftermarket versions of the cards, along with more mature drivers:)
Amd always get better fps after sometime. Now image all game that codes for navi in ps5 and Xbox will great in pc I hope
ZEN 2 CPU and NAVI card COMBO is will be the "3P KING" ( price, power, performance )
Cris Meman 3600 and 5700 seem to be the way to go. I have a 9600k, but $780 gets board chip ram gpu now
@@doriangray2347 What about a 3600x and a 5700XT? That's what I'm planning to go for with a 1440p display in a new build, would you recommend that?
Rayan Arshed still great value
@@adas2051 Cool, great, thanks!
@@Rayan_Iolanthe yes absolutely. I see people testing them and the 5700XT is equaling the 1080ti. this is tested by a really smart comp guy. watching it live now, he always is right about how things are. 1080ti performance is superb 1440p gaming, i know, i have one. I wish had a 5700xt, it runs cooler actually.

How did you guys only have 378k subscribers? this is absurd you guy deserve more than this
It's 1am here; I have work tomorrow. I see hardware unboxed upload. I'm going to be lateto work tomorrow.
Sam hill you and me both pal
1:25 night time here, so yeah...quite late upload for sure
i'm glad you're keeping the 1080ti on the list. that's one helluva gpu.
The gpu blower fan was perfectly centred in the shot from the thumbnail. Nice
Thank you so fucking much for actually including current and last gen product stacks for both manufacturers.
Power consumption results are super impressive, especially since the damn blowers can pull up to 30w lolol
"Relatively quiet." Funny how this compares to Gamers Nexus review which crucified the blower style fan and would recommend these products only with upcoming board partner solutions.
Just goes to show that different people think differently. You know, opinions...
MegaTechpc or one could have gotten a better card
@@adas2051 True, I mean obviously anyone who doesnt have an RTX Titan is clearly a loser. 🙄
What are those 1% lows on Assassins creed? 50 FPS on a 2080Ti that game must needs some major improvements under the hood.
It's most likely a CPU performance issue, and that's probably causes because of Denuvo DRM.
I've heard about some great fps improvements after the DRM was removed (with the pirated version). Really sucks to think about it.
I, for one, was going to give a try to this new Assassins Creed "RPG-like" games, but I cannot wrap my head around in paying for less performance than a pirate version would give me, I'd rather not play than to support shitty DRM solutions.
@@band0lero yeah sucks to be a paying customer for crappier performance
@@LiLBitsDK Co founder of CD Projekt Red said something about that in GOG documentary, their plan to make people buy instead of pirate was brilliant
The performance of AC games has nothing to do with Denuvo and everything to do with them being horribly optimized.
@@Case_ game looks great tho, i managed to play it on medium settings 60 fps and it was very pretty
Perfect review. thanks steve. :)
Great work as always. Kind of missing the 36 game benchmarks, not that I really expected something like that at this point. But hopefully when things become quieter?
