One of my all-time favorites, from Cousin Roy. As a vibraphonist myself, this tune is especially beautiful because Roy allows you (the listener) to hear and feel the complete tonal beauty, of the vibraphone. He uses his damper pedal, in such a masterful manner. Listen to how the lower register notes, are allowed to ring. I believe, Roy was playing a Deagan vibe, on this session. However, he has also used the competition: a Musser vibe, on some early recordings. He now uses the Malletkat only.
There is nothing better than the Deagan vibraharp, which was made here in Chicago on the Northside. When Roy Ayers played it, he made it sound like heaven! God bless the Deagan!
I can not express how beautiful I think this song is. I was in my teenage years listening to this song and stayed up all night with this sweet piece writing. I should be writing books now.
I have many of Cousin' Roy's albums. And, I have seen him (in concert) many times. But, I have to say: this particular tune/recording in (in my opinion), one of the melodically beautiful tunes that Roy has ever recorded. Those vibes just sound so magical. Maybe, this was when Roy was playing those Deagan vibes. In the early years, Roy played only Musser vibes, which was other major-competitor of Deagan. For those that are interested: the vibes that I am playing, in that photo/App are also Deagans.
D.J. FOXXXY D.J. FOXXXY, I’m glad you stumbled on this. I heard this back when it came out 1981. I didn’t know the album. Speed it up to 1989. Senior in high school and this cassette tape was sitting there at my parents house. Talking about stumbling!! This was my soundtrack of my college years. I still have the cassette tape by the way.
How do you say "Love In Yoruba"? asks Roy Ayers in the spoken intor to this chill feast of an instrumental, the lovable Roy Ayers didn't just hang out with Fela Kuti & tour Africa, he even took time out to learn some of the language, that just about sums up everytrhing about this great artist & man
An absolutely beautiful and luscious instrumental. My instructions to the listener... 1 -Put ON the song, 2 - SHUT UP, and 3 - GET BUSY!!! 💞❤ 'NUFF SAID!!! 🤣😂🤣😍😎

Atmospheric lower tones, Roy frees up the space masterfully to appreciate the full range of the vibration.
