The lecture considers hoarding and collecting in terms of their differences and points of contingency.

Seems to me that hoarders put a higher value on objects and their relationship with those objects compared to the value they put on relationships and experiences. Perhaps they have had disappointments in their relationships in the past. Objects have meaning and power. They connect people to their history and act as a kind of storyline to the past.
