I love how he's the perfect blend of absolutely annoying but absolutely hilarious at the same time. He was such a funny character he should've been in more than 2 episodes.
I wish they kept that line in. I'm autistic and found that hilarious. Some people on the spectrum have no social filter, e.g. talking inappropriately. I don't do that but I have met others who do.
Duggan’s immediate response to seeing someone getting punched in the face right in front of him (“Oh my God, I’ve got so much on as it is”). Pretty much my exact response when I’m having a nightmarishly busy day at work and the colleague who’s supposed to be helping me conveniently chooses to have a meltdown instead. Then goes off sick for the rest of the week.
In the commentary for Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle they said that Miles Jupp had terrible problems bursting into laughter during JD's first appearance (in the motel), so the writers included that in the character for this later appearance in the train episode.
The perfect execution of giving a comedy actor a role which is a heavily bastardized version of themselves. No-one on the planet could have played John Duggan like that except Miles
No need, the only films you need are there will be blood and there will be tits. Jamie told us and Jamie’s always right... unless you want to... ‘explore personal boundaries’

I feel like 'you're looking very dapper, like if there'd been a Scottish James Bond' doesn't get the love it deserves as a line
Completely agree. Also Sean Connery seems not to count, because he’s nothing compared to Malcolm or Jamie! Cracking line!
@@EmperorMingg The character of James Bond WAS Scottish (half) and grew up on Skyfall (A Scottish Family Estate).

Such an underrated line. Really shows how profoundly clueless Duggan is.
It's a really tough competition but I think that John Duggan takes the prize as the most incompetent character on The Thick of It,
HIm and Ben Swain need a spin off movie.
@@ShaunRL with Robyn there too
@@ShaunRL Did they get that piano up the stairs?
Yeah he is a contender for a Grayling award.
He's useless but he's largely harmless. Ben Swain, Nicola Murray and Phil Smith (Peter's advisor) are much worse.
Miles Jupp was absolutely perfect for playing John.
My favourite bit is where he starts laughing after Julie's "Sweating like a fat lass" line.
Agreed and I honestly believe that was just Miles' genuine reaction to the line.
@@bluestone9726 It was, he's said as much before. Apparently he did it all the time and that one slipped through the cracks.

Ollie's line about "Not to be rude, but are you actually autistic?" Is brilliant.

Every press officer I talk to never fails to mention how busy they are. And because they are a press officer they are lying about this.
"Might bring back memories of her latte husband" - I can't breathe, the writing is so good.

A portrayal of a man who is so socially unaware of himself ,its uncanny.

I hadn't noticed before, but when Malcolm punches Glenn, he also knocks Ollie down.
That's strangely hilarious.
