Man, Hootie was WAY before Nickleback! I remember listening to Hootie back in the mid eighties when he was doing the bar scene in Columbia, South Carolina before they were discovered. He was a local singer in a local band and we fell in love with them. Been a fan ever since.
Darius is one of the top successful country artists around today now. Check out the glorious official video of “ Wagon Wheel”. It is GLORIOUS!!!! ❤
That entire album is great - and yes, Darius Rucker went on to have a very successful solo career as a country and western artist. Other great ones are "Hold My Hand,", "Only Wanna Be With You", and "I Go Blind". I remember when this album came out, my late husband and I were visiting a record store near his hometown, and knew the owner, who said - hey you have to hear this - and played it for us. We found out about the Black Crowes from the same guy.
One of my favorite and most underrated songs. A real anthem for anyone who's ever loved a person bent on destroying themselves. 💙😔

Love this song. No nickelback is not like this group. There is so many good songs, hard to remember them all. Lol. You can pretty much pick any song 60s through the 90s and some 2000s and the song is fantastic.
Hootie &the BF filled a nice void for fun songs and soothing melodies. They released a decent size library making a jump into their rabbit hole worth it.
Darius, the lead singer -Hootie- is now running as a solo artist and has several nice songs in the Country music genre. Worth checking out also.

I'm not positive when Darius went country, but, I don't think it was 1988. Hootie and the Blowfish formed in 1986 and this song was released in 1994.

This is one that I rank as "This Is As Good As It Gets". First time I heard Hootie & the Blowfish was on Dave Letterman. Woke up my wife at 1AM to to tell her "you HAVE to see this!!".
Darius Rucker (the lead singer) is from my hometown of Charleston, SC. The road next to the airport is called “Darius Rucker Blvd. He’s a pretty cool guy!

You're not hearing Nickelback, you're hearing the 90s. That amalgamation of rock and grunge and that alternative rock ballad with hinds of the blues.
Darius does have a great voice and his transition to country music was pretty successful.

I’m sure others have said. But his name is Darius Rucker. He hates being called Hootie. The band name was never intended to be his name lol. But when you name ur band Hootie and the Blowfish, you kinda curse the rest of your life with being called Hootie. One of the best vocalists
