  • Vivi Svendsen is 18 years old, and study sciences at The Cathedral school of Oslo. She has talked herself in and out of some pretty interesting situations. She has helped with university level research, both in the US and in Norway since she was eleven years old. Interviewed her favorite bands (by accident) and even ended up singing for the pope at the Vatican. She works to bridge the gap between the arts and the sciences, always keeping things interesting. Despite mixed results, my intentions are always good. She will talk about The self-soothing is a concept we teach infants so that they can sleep alone at night, and yet, a concept we lose sight of as we become adults. In a society where self-reliance is a lost art, what if we could reach inside ourselves for the affirmation we seek, instead of being soley dependant on others? Brilliant talk but how do you self soothe? it’s all easy and beautiful put down in encouraging words but in actual fact what do you do?
Especially if you are going trough mental health issues, eating disorders and so on. Finding that inner strength and positive self talk can be challenging....
I know it is for me at least.

I think its having a conversation with yourself and asking whats wrong and what are you afraid of etc. questioning/ testing those fears, asking what you need in the moment. Having a calm comforting inner dialogue, being kind to yourself, being your own talking therapist :) It will help to stop getting carried away by a negative stream of consciousness. If you want an active self soothing technique try youtubing a tapping/holding video on chakra points.

Practicing Mindfulness helps to seperate you from your fears and emotions, to watch impassively and be unnaffected. Seperating the watcher from what is being watched. The fearful, primal lower self and wise, calm higher self.

@@BigWill2k again, sounds nice in words. As a person into mindfulness yet with mental health issues I can safely say it's not that easy. Sometimes it is sometimes it isn't, but that's no good for self soothing when you need it all the time

Is there a part of this missing? All she does is say how important it is to self soothe not how to do it.

This sounds like being overly independent in an unhealthy way out of a fear of relying on others.

She’s annoying me the way she is constantly waving her hands around . It’s too much to watch !

She's being expressive and it's obvious she's pushing through nerves. She's literally talking about her experience with overthinking and anxiety. You'd think you'd have more grace for her.
