Actually when they showcase whole Necron Kill Team (not sure if you saw it, news from 9.10) they show 4 Deathmarks and beefy Immortal, along with characters. So this new Cryptek-noob is it's own model. Now, it is question if two small robots and extra KT bits would come on same sprue as him? I highly doubt, which is great! He looks cool, and a bit like limited Kamoteph the Crooked model.

People keep commenting about the tube coming from the immortals gun, but that's always been there on all the immortals and it's part of what makes them annoying to build.
Ye gods, "annoying to build" is an understatement. Getting those stupid cables stuck together so the seams don't show is a royal pain. Finally gave up even trying and started adding "electrical tape/bandages" wrapped around the cabling to conceal the joins.

Possibly but the apprentekh also looks a lot like the store anniversary model from last year so could be a separate sprue. If you look at the back piece of the torso for the apprentek that looks different to the deathmarks but similar to an immortal without the cabling. The cabling is connected to the torso on the current sprue so it cannot be that. Another thing that makes me say this is we do not know the rules for the kill team either. So if you can take a mix of deathmarks and immortals then it would make more sense to leave that sprue alone

I think the Apprentek might actually be its own model. I also thought that it would be built from an Immortal and decided to check the Shadowvaults reveal trailer for the number of units, and when it shows the whole squad at around 0:25, there is the Apprentek, the Despotek and 4 Deathmarks shown in it, the last one is kinda obscured behind the others and the Cryptek's staff. If the Apprentek thus is its own unit, it would increase my opinion of the Killteam quite a bit.
@@gi1dor oh it definitely is a different model 😅 I was using the comparison to make the point that it is not a repurposed immortal. Just very similar to a previous model in terms of the staff and how it is posed

But I still think that Apprentek using a body of an Immortal is more likely, it has exactly the same legs, and the full product photo, which is supposed to show all that there is in the box, only has 8 Necrons, is more reliable than a random shot is a trailer. Maybe they just added an extra model to show the options (Deathmark taken instead of a Plasmacyte, as the shot notably lacks one of those), just like they were showing Reivers on some of the promo material of Moroch.
Plasmacytes are currently exclusive to the Cult of Destruction models in the Necron Book. And as those new Deathmark heads look similar to the Hexmark and the older Lokhust destroyers, I'm wondering if these Deathmarks have started down the path to joining the Destroyers. May just be a cool visual update though.
That Apprentek might just be used as the Technomancer on foot with the Canoptek Control Node for the main game. If Crypteks do make it as a full unit for Kill Team, I'm definitely getting involved in Kill Team. Fucking love Cryptek models and lore
as a Necron main I will say...these models are crap and disappointing. If there are people excited for them I am 100% happy for those people but I was really hoping we'd get models that looked as unique to the faction as the Novitiates did for sisters. If people have a fomo problem or "gotta catch them all" issue go for it but thankfully GW made this an easy decision for me.
Yeah it really isn't inventing the wheel anew, but new kitbash bits are new kitbash bits. Personally I would love more options to build a Canoptek only army.
I came up with 5 new destroyer designs and statblocks in less time than it took them to churn this stuff out, yeah. I'll accept plasmacyte variants as having potential, but I'm unimpressed by "apprenteks" when we have like 3-5 missing cryptek classes, and that character is equally underwhelming. They just gave him a pinch of flair and a second damn feed line for his gun, only it's on the OPPOSITE side of the existing one, which is hilariously impractical and downright insultingly bad design.
This is probably the most lack luster of the upgrade sprue forces so far, everything can easily be proxied. I was hopping for new poses or new loadouts or something ya know ‘New’ we got a apprentice cryptek, which I suppose is is interesting if it gets added i to 40k but i have my doubts
Some GW shops still have part one of the lmperium collection which came out with the Royal warden and space marine lieutenant in it. I'm sure most Necron players have enough crypteks and other figures to use.

Looking at the image with the terrain and the minis, I can only count 3 Deathmarks and 1 immortal, + the other minis, I believe the Apprentek is made using the legs of the immortals, leaving you with just 4 immortals/deathmarks to field, alongside the 2 crypteks and plasmacytes
They announced it yesterday and the preorders are next Saturday. Feel that's really rapid compared to what they usually do. I wonder if they won't throw in Necron Warriors in with the rules for this Kill Team. They did throw Reivers rules into the Phobos Kill Team, despite the fact none were in the box.
In the trailer video at around 25 seconds in, you can actually see the Despotek with 4 Deathmarks as well as the Aprentek, so maybe the latter is a full model and not simply an upgrade for an existing immortal?

There are definitely at least two but potentially 3 different models in that kill team. If you think the apprentek is a repurposed immortal look at the sprue and see the differences.

Apprentek uses legs and the front of the torso of an Immortal, but the rest comes from an upgrade sprue. The "new models" they were talking about likely meant Plasmacytes.

I have a different opinion that's all 😅 All I am saying is presenting this as just as upgrade sprue is not correct and not an accurate representation of what was said in the reveal stream is all. Also it was never explicitly said what was new and what was not. By that same token I could say the upgrades are specifically for the deathmarks because they spoke about the unique heads for them to look different. The truth is this is all speculation until we see the actual sprues
I've got most of this with Imperium magazine already. The Apprenteck just kinda looks dumb to me and something I can kitbash. Honestly, kinda let down in comparison to how fricken epic the Karsiken look. I didn't realize the immortal despotic was a different character. Looks to basic.
I am hoping for more unit leader upgrades for lieutenant style abilities, rather than having to rely on hq choices. Much in the way they do the points Drukhari upgrades, and less like the red butchers cp upgrades.
If you look closely at the warden, they have a circular hole in their nose (it always bothered me). Can't wait to combine this with Start Collecting Necron set I had forever!

The new necron model really pales in comparison to so many of the units already out there for the faction. GW is really having a difficult time keeping up with the modeling companies you can subscribe to online. The smaller companies on Patreon are blowing them out of the water in terms of originality and quality (and for a fraction of the price of GW's models).
As a player who entered with the new necrons, I'm quite dissapointed with GW not taking the chance to upgrade the immortal/deathmarks kit. Isn't as dated as other warhammer minis (only 11 years old), but they are starting to look quite different than the 9ed necron range
Personally I'm disappointed that we can't get more Canoptek models. Always loved the small and big robo insects, and I would love to get more ways to actually build an good army around them. It should be an option with HQ and troops, since these constructs are the defenders until a tomb world awakens.
I am just upset with the Deathmark/ Immortal kit. It’s one I don’t get. We need something more like blade guard vets, pistols, and shooting, and melee. You may say “Oh but Lytch guard fill that roll”, sure. But they don’t have guns.
That Aprentek is literally GW HEAVILY reusing the 2021 aniversary Technomancer with node (yaknow, the thing that should have been a base mini but instead got sent to the exclusive mine) with slight modification (the cryptothral collar, a slightly different back plate and ofc no node). Why make up a new random and uneeded support for your support piece instead of just releasing the technomancer on foot we are desperatly in need?
I really dont get why only picture where you can actually see all 4 Deathmarks is for few seconds in their introductory video. Overall its quite disappointing seeing how diverse were previous kits. I could proxy every single of these units with existing kits. I am also not fond of that we did not get more diverse terrain. At least we will see tons of necron upgrade sprues on ebay after this box gets released.

I think it's a poor offering; minimum effort to a sprue that could have used an upgrade. I', also a bit vexxed that a Technomancer is in the squad; Kill Team is meant to be about advanced squads infiltrating beyond enemy lines. An Apprentek makes sense, but a full blown Technomancer? I'd be surprised if they got out of their tomb for less than an extensive Overlord refit.
Sad update for my fellow cron players: GW has confirmed that you will have to use 1 of the immortal legs to make the apprentek so we'll only get 3 immortals / death marks
I had the same thoughts but then thought the crypteks have more “personality” so it could be the case he was an apprentice before conversation and now is stuck in that role… But yeah it’s a lazy weird way of doing it. I probably would have done it as an enthralled cryptek, that’s been captured and as had a mindshackle fitted. Thus making it compliant and docile but not up to the standards of a standard dynastic cryptek.
A) they could have been apprentices at the time of bio transference B) the cryptek arts are so widespread and esoteric that it’s impossible to learn all disciplines, at least seemingly. So crypteks still have to learn somehow.
If what is true for the power cables on that new Immortal, I beat GW to the punch. All of my Immortals have been modified in that way, using the deathmark backs
As long term Necron player I can't help but wonder why GW thought this thing was a good idea. At a time where the Destroyers, Destroyer Lord, Lord, Overlord are in a desperate need of a update, the "Necron Royal Court" is still a monopose pack containing miniatures that desperatly need a standalone release, and the Skorpekh Destroyer are still lock in that weird squad loadout, the technomancer is still only sold with the Cloack option (the control node version was the store aniversary mini of 2021), the Plasmamancer and Spychomancer and Royal Warden all could use an alt load out, GW decides to do... this. A random upgrade sprue for the immortal/deathmark (would could have used a full new kit), a HEAVY reuse of the 2021 anniversary cryptek that has been mashed with a cryptothrall (who are still not sold outside of the royal court) and a rerelease of the same "overly dynamic and without any option" technomancer... Oh and let' not forget, 2 plasmacyte, the most useless addition to the necron line in the game, and one that is already package with the units its supposed to support (special mention to the one standing on a giant steel beam, because god knows necrons needed more "forced imperial ruins" on their bases. I hope your plan was to have your army be all about that kind of base, because otherwise you'll have a jolly hell time trying to remove that thing). And I wont even touch the lore topic, and how painfully unloreful all that is. Who asked for this? What's the point?!
hope these new models/variants have actual 40k rules since necrons are super bland. would be cool if the despotek was kinda like a sergeant for necron troop units with a gauss blaster, 2 wounds, and 2-3 melee attacks. could give warriors a bit of help in close combat.
I’m sort of disappointed by this I was hoping for a new squad of destroyer cult models lead by a cryptek, you could have gotten some good variety with a destroyer cult unit
centipede taur destroyer packing a heat ray. Heavy Variant can take the Heat Cannon or the AA Gauss Exterminator. Boom. FFS this isn't hard, GW just doesn't GAF enough to bother.
It's an apprentice cryptek, a cryptek in training! I never thought of that but they're right! That must be a thing. You don't just become a master of technology overnight. I don't know why I never thought of that being a cryptek type before.
bit annoying is i have a box of imortals waiting to be built and a cryptek already painted, but i guess its a way to shave 20 - 30 pounds off the cost of the box with reselling. i was potentially going to pass on this box before, but with the new 40k format, i'll probably pick it up to get the other half of the terrain needed. i don't like that imortal with the dangly bits, but that might just be the bad paintjob, which makes them look tacked on

Nope. Pose is similar, but it lacks the "arm drape" of the Kemoteph fig, has a noticeably different carapace/hunchback. Even the head of the staff is obviously not the same - Kemo's has a more complex shape.

New Karskins are awesome but the Necrons are fucking terrible. The Immortal has some cool bits, okay, but the deathmarks only get new heads? No extra weapon options? Wtf GW? And yayyy more plasmacytes, how exciting… Out of all KT upgrade sprues so far, this, by far, is the worst.

Think Lorewise Deathmarks that turn into destroyers become hexmarks...dont remember where I got that from tho so it might be wrong

Looks like they've just re-purposed the hexmark destroyer head, the plasmancer body, and the royal warden body. But still, nice to have something :)

Anyone else just noted that the "new" Apprentek is the the 2021 store anniversary model Kamoteph the Crooked or is it just me?
Same silhouette but different model. The KT is the immortal body + some new bits from upgrade sprue.
@@duerf5826 looking at the KT as a whole, I'm probably just going to proxy all the models, Kamopteph, Royal Warden, standard Cryptek, plasmacytes, and a bunch of gauss Immortals/deathmarks

The new necron model really pales in comparison to so many of the units already out there for the faction. GW is really having a difficult time keeping up with the modeling companies you can subscribe to online. The smaller companies on Patreon are blowing them out of the water in terms of originality and quality (and for a fraction of the price of GW's models).
That aprentek’s lore basically feels like the American labor system.

As a player who entered with the new necrons, I'm quite dissapointed with GW not taking the chance to upgrade the immortal/deathmarks kit. Isn't as dated as other warhammer minis (only 11 years old), but they are starting to look quite different than the 9ed necron range
The reanimator mini looks pretty good the immortal just looks the same
Personally I'm disappointed that we can't get more Canoptek models. Always loved the small and big robo insects, and I would love to get more ways to actually build an good army around them.
It should be an option with HQ and troops, since these constructs are the defenders until a tomb world awakens.
They're feeding us shoddy products piecemeal. IDK why people are hyped about this.
I am just upset with the Deathmark/ Immortal kit.

That Aprentek is literally GW HEAVILY reusing the 2021 aniversary Technomancer with node (yaknow, the thing that should have been a base mini but instead got sent to the exclusive mine) with slight modification (the cryptothral collar, a slightly different back plate and ofc no node).
Why make up a new random and uneeded support for your support piece instead of just releasing the technomancer on foot we are desperatly in need?
I really dont get why only picture where you can actually see all 4 Deathmarks is for few seconds in their introductory video. Overall its quite disappointing seeing how diverse were previous kits. I could proxy every single of these units with existing kits. I am also not fond of that we did not get more diverse terrain. At least we will see tons of necron upgrade sprues on ebay after this box gets released.
This is the same terrain as "into the dark" right?
On the stream they said that it expands upon the Into the Dark set. So kind of like a stand alone dlc

Seems neat. I love Necrons and will be snagging this off a cheap eBay split. No interest in the terrain or Kasrkin.
I think it's a poor offering; minimum effort to a sprue that could have used an upgrade. I', also a bit vexxed that a Technomancer is in the squad; Kill Team is meant to be about advanced squads infiltrating beyond enemy lines. An Apprentek makes sense, but a full blown Technomancer? I'd be surprised if they got out of their tomb for less than an extensive Overlord refit.
They're alright, but I do love the wee apprentice boi.
Sad update for my fellow cron players: GW has confirmed that you will have to use 1 of the immortal legs to make the apprentek so we'll only get 3 immortals / death marks

I had the same thoughts but then thought the crypteks have more “personality” so it could be the case he was an apprentice before conversation and now is stuck in that role…
But yeah it’s a lazy weird way of doing it. I probably would have done it as an enthralled cryptek, that’s been captured and as had a mindshackle fitted. Thus making it compliant and docile but not up to the standards of a standard dynastic cryptek.
Apprentices do exist in necron lore tho. Like menthep who along with other psycomances were aprentices to the warlock
A) they could have been apprentices at the time of bio transference
B) the cryptek arts are so widespread and esoteric that it’s impossible to learn all disciplines, at least seemingly. So crypteks still have to learn somehow.
If what is true for the power cables on that new Immortal, I beat GW to the punch. All of my Immortals have been modified in that way, using the deathmark backs
As long term Necron player I can't help but wonder why GW thought this thing was a good idea.
At a time where the Destroyers, Destroyer Lord, Lord, Overlord are in a desperate need of a update, the "Necron Royal Court" is still a monopose pack containing miniatures that desperatly need a standalone release, and the Skorpekh Destroyer are still lock in that weird squad loadout, the technomancer is still only sold with the Cloack option (the control node version was the store aniversary mini of 2021), the Plasmamancer and Spychomancer and Royal Warden all could use an alt load out, GW decides to do... this.
A random upgrade sprue for the immortal/deathmark (would could have used a full new kit), a HEAVY reuse of the 2021 anniversary cryptek that has been mashed with a cryptothrall (who are still not sold outside of the royal court) and a rerelease of the same "overly dynamic and without any option" technomancer...
Oh and let' not forget, 2 plasmacyte, the most useless addition to the necron line in the game, and one that is already package with the units its supposed to support (special mention to the one standing on a giant steel beam, because god knows necrons needed more "forced imperial ruins" on their bases. I hope your plan was to have your army be all about that kind of base, because otherwise you'll have a jolly hell time trying to remove that thing).
And I wont even touch the lore topic, and how painfully unloreful all that is.

hope these new models/variants have actual 40k rules since necrons are super bland. would be cool if the despotek was kinda like a sergeant for necron troop units with a gauss blaster, 2 wounds, and 2-3 melee attacks. could give warriors a bit of help in close combat.

I really want to like Kill Team, but the LOS rules are so wonky. I'd have to house rule them into something more normal.
I’m sort of disappointed by this I was hoping for a new squad of destroyer cult models lead by a cryptek, you could have gotten some good variety with a destroyer cult unit
centipede taur destroyer packing a heat ray. Heavy Variant can take the Heat Cannon or the AA Gauss Exterminator. Boom. FFS this isn't hard, GW just doesn't GAF enough to bother.
It's an apprentice cryptek, a cryptek in training! I never thought of that but they're right! That must be a thing. You don't just become a master of technology overnight. I don't know why I never thought of that being a cryptek type before.
the issue is, what the hell would make them worth taking if crypteks- for all they ARE good characters- are so limited in scope?

bit annoying is i have a box of imortals waiting to be built and a cryptek already painted, but i guess its a way to shave 20 - 30 pounds off the cost of the box with reselling. i was potentially going to pass on this box before, but with the new 40k format, i'll probably pick it up to get the other half of the terrain needed. i don't like that imortal with the dangly bits, but that might just be the bad paintjob, which makes them look tacked on
I have come to realise the real reason GW canned all their testers... Why pay people to test new minis when the Kill Team crowd will pay a premium to do it for them.

The Apprentech is just a copy/paste of the limited edition necron HQ, Kamoteph the Crooked
Nope. Pose is similar, but it lacks the "arm drape" of the Kemoteph fig, has a noticeably different carapace/hunchback. Even the head of the staff is obviously not the same - Kemo's has a more complex shape.
@@richmcgee434 I get that yeah but it's clearly the same design just tweeked. I mean most of it is the exact same with subtle differences. Just feels a bit lazy. They could have just released him again instead of trying to pass this off as a new, original cast

New Karskins are awesome but the Necrons are fucking terrible. The Immortal has some cool bits, okay, but the deathmarks only get new heads? No extra weapon options? Wtf GW? And yayyy more plasmacytes, how exciting…
