THANK YOU. You gave the Star Wars explanation about Anakin being "two different people" but you also gave the real life psychological breakdown explaining that it was a coping mechanism developed by Obi-Wan to deal with his grief. The writers can create their justifications, but like all stories, they're more lessons and fun than how life really functions. Obi-Wan could have done more, absolutely, but like all of us when our kids grow up and do their own thing they're their own person and responsible for their own actions. Good or bad.
It's up to us to critically analyze the stories we read and glean our own lessons from it rather than simply taking the story tellers word as law.

Anakin’s fall to the dark side was because of several of the factors mentioned in your video. The rigid rules of the Jedi Order. The friendship of Palpatine. And, of course, the difficult relationship Obi Wan had with Anakin as his mentor. Obi Wan does, and should, shoulder some of the blame as to why Anakin turned. His rationalization of what Anakin had become is a phycological method we humans have when it comes to processing emotions and traumatic events. This story can also serve as an inspiration for us irl on how we tackle issues in our lives and how to move forward.

    • @daniels7907

Agreed. Obi-Wan was often antagonistic towards Anakin, even in front of a Galactic Senator, because he just couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that Anakin was not raised in the Jedi Order since he was a toddler. He had never received that early life indoctrination and thus he could see that the Jedi were mentally conditioned to obey the Order rather than doing so out of genuine commitment.

He left him there to "allow the force to decide his fate," sounds a lot like the justification ancient Romans held for leaving unwanted newborns out to die from exposure: they didn't kill the baby, the gods did. Here's a better question: does he deserve to let himself off? He's certainly not nearly as culpable as Yoda, and the fact that his entire relationship with Luke was…unhealthy, when viewed from above doesn't help. It basically amounted to training and gaslighting Luke into killing his own father, without letting him know it's his father. He might have planned to tell Luke at some point, but the fact remains that it was only when Vader let the cat out of the bag did he and Yoda acknowledge the truth.
I think Vader letting him off the hook with that comment was a cheap and lazy way to set the character up for whatever probable nonsense they have in mind for the future. He deserved to carry some of that guilt.

While yes Obi-Wan was a big part of the downfall of Anakin he wasn’t the only one responsible, this was flushed out in the Clone Wars TV series as it was revealed the Darkside itself was after The Chosen One and it wasn’t the first time Anakin had turned even though it was short lived. The Jedi Council was also to blame as they sensed the turmoil within Anakin and did almost nothing to help him even Yoda himself wasn’t much help and being the Grand Master failed his duties when it came to Anakin and his mental and emotional state. There were a few things that could have prevented Anakin from turning to the Darkside such as him opening up completely to Yoda and told him everything even though it was highly likely he’d be expelled from the Jedi Order but at least Anakin would have his wife and kids in the end along with most of his organic body. I’d love to see a What If series for Star Wars and how this alternate reality would play out.

I think it's natural as a teacher for Obi Wan to assume a lot of the blame for Anakin's fall, going over everything he said or did with Anakin, trying to find anything that would have saved him. He kept quiet about Padme because he knew the war was wearing on Anakin, and that loving Padme was a bright light in a bleak world for him. If Obi Wan had a failing, it was loving Anakin so much he was blinded to the darkness building inside him, making excuses for misdeeds. Their bond was so close that when Anakin got back to the Temple after finding out Palpatine was a Sith (in the novelization of RotS), Anakin desparately asks to speak with Obi Wan immediately. Of course, due to Palpatine's machinations, Obi Wan was out of communication at the crucial time. I firmly believe that if Obi Wan had been able to speak with Anakin right then, he would have been able to steady him enough where Anakin wouldn't have fallen.
All in all, Anakin made the ultimate decision, knowing full well what he was doing was wrong, to turn to the dark side, to join the Sith, and to destroy the Jedi. He said screw the galaxy, screw the billions of people the Clone Wars killed which the Sith engineered, screw the people I've fought beside for years, save my wife and I'll serve you. The fault, even as George Lucas has said on a number of occasions, ultimately lies with Anakin.

If Anakin hadn't been burnt to a crisp on Mustafar, if he had chosen to leave when Obi-Wan claimed the high ground and come after him again later, would Obi-Wan still have been able to rationalize things this way? Would he have been able to look into Anakin's unburnt face and still see him as Darth Vader? After all, nobody had a problem with the fact that Chancellor Palpatine and Darth Sidious were the same person. Likewise with Count Dooku and Darth Tyrannus. Was it the life support suit, and the physical disfigurement, that made it possible for Obi-Wan to reach this conclusion? Would Anakin himself have felt that he had died and Vader replaced him? After all, even after turning to the Dark Side, he still saw Padme as his wife and wanted her to join him in ruling *his* new Empire.

Sure but he was also a Very young man himself & had only Just been Knighted he handled the situation the best he could like a single parent, nothing was going to be Easy. Not to mention he was Only training the most Powerful force Wielder OF ALL TIME! He did pretty well for himself, All things considered! 🤷🏻‍♀️

If it's as you said then technically everything can be considered as Obi-wan's fault. I get the not understanding and not listening because that's what ppl do. But he wasn't making anakin follow jedi rules either and let him break em a lot. Padame and palpatine could have both been stopped by obi-wan if he was more strict, but that's not who he is.

Every important person in anakins life lead him to the dark side. But only someone who understands what he has been through could bring him back to the light.

It has always peeved me off that Everyone in the Star Wars universe blames Obi-Wan for Anakin's fall - how about it was 110% Anakin's own FAULT. Anakin wasn't a child - he was an adult. He was & always will be a selfish, arrogant, FOOL!!!! He was a Jedi Knight for over 5yrs - he disregarded the rules of the Jedi - which were put in place centuries before he was born. He never did as he was told. He though as he was the 'Chosen One' the rules didn't apply to him. His ego knew no bounds & he was foolishly naive to believe everything Palpatine said to him. And because of his arrogance & foolishness he lost EVERYTHING as he should have.

To be honest I honestly think you can sort of blame qui gonn because he threw obi wan into this spot of inexperience, obi wan was just as much as a pupil as annikin was, the Jedi council for not paying attention to the emotionally compromised annikin and just telling him don't give a fuck about your feelings and palptine, he litrelly brainwashed annikin to go down this path but nobody can say it's annikins fault that's like saying a kid raised mental health issues should solely be held accountable for his condition and doing what he does as a result of it because nobody bothered to lift a finger to help. People forget annikin tried not to go to the darkside but nobody gave him the tools to stop him falling so what's he going to do he's going to fall do that's like scolding a man for not building the house and saying his fault when you were the one who didn't give him the tools that actually allow him to successfully do his work.

Unpopular opinion, but I think 100% Anakin is to blame for his own actions. I don't think Obi-Wan has any blame whatsoever. A lot of people say that Anakin needed a father, well, this might be true, I think it has zero reason for why Anakin turned. He lost his mother and didn't want to lose padme, so he turned to palpatine to save her from death so that he wouldn't lose her the way he lost his mother. He always had his dark thoughts but those were implanted into him by palpatine. I think palpatine obviously started his demise, but Anakin gave into it. I don't think Anakin can blame anyone but himself and palpatine if you really want to blame him. But it's his choice in the end
