Yup, a lot to be hyped for just in quality of life improvements alone. I'm personally happy to report that my gaming laptop was able to run the benchmark at max settings with only one hiccup during the all classes fight scene. I didn't even notice it, just saw the little performance gauge dip a bit.
I played ff14 last year for the first time in many years as an Au ra and during the last couple of days before my 30 days were up, I switched to viera and cat to try them out since I didn't like my scales anymore. Now I'm planning on going back to being an Au ra but for some reason, I can't help but be enticed by Vieras even though I can't get it to feel like my WoL. Nonetheless, I'm super excited for Dawntrail and I plan to main viper both story/rp reasons and because I spent most of my time as a ninja
I'm pretty new to FF 14 so I wanted to ask if I have the trial account I won't receive these graphical updates right? I would need to buy Dawntrail if I understood correctly, thanks for the video it was really great!
For the new graphics, I'm mostly excited for how dang *shiny* dunesfolk eyes seem to be, way better for staring at someone until they give me a free cookie or seven.
As a miqo player, I dislike the filing down of the fang's too. My miqo's face appeared longer and thinner than it used to, forcing me to change the face shape and I think even the jaw, before it looked right in the benchmark cutscene. Also, is it just me, or do the hands now look even more "arthritic" than they used to?
Personal gripe.... I was bigger fluffier tails. I kinda don't like the thin tail, I'd almost want more of a fox tail but maybe a middle ground between the two.
I'm most looking forward to the game feeling like an MMO again. So happy Yoshi P addressed the "boring" state of the gameplay and the heavy focus on solo players in the more recent updates. I hope to once again explore the world and take on challenges with lots of other players. And obviously - 2 dye channels.

I did not like my lala after the graphics update but I changed a few things and now my lala is even cuter. I ended up buying a fanta to change my lala, now I am ready for DT. My lala is going to be so adorable in DT, like a shitzu puppy, now I can't wait.
@@yukonexpatriate4017 But I also don't need to spend 3 hours in high levels of anxiety trying to fanta my character and want to play DT at the same time. I can just log in and play and use the fanta later if I want to change anything.

@@yukonexpatriate4017 Lol, yeah I honestly started freaking out just thinking of fantaing after I saw how cute my HD lala could be if I changed a few things and thinking of how excited I would be wanting to play and I would end up taking short cuts out of frustration and not being happy with my character. Some might do just that and start off with a bad taste in their mouth at the start of DT.
FFXIV has a higher concurrent player base than most of other big MMOs out to date. So no matter the state of the game itself the player base count speaks for the game itself.

i am sorry, but i just dont consider this graphics update as even hitting the minimum. i rather would like for them to give us round fluffy tails, 3 dimensional trees or... better ground textures for... basically everything... stuff like the aura scales are great! but... i feel like there are things in game that need new graphics much more urgently
I hope you make another video once the new Benchmark comes out to compare these shots against the newer versions so that we can visually see what, if anything, has changed. I found this comparison a lot more useful than the 90 minute livestream as their stream quality was just way too low for me to fully appreciate all the work that they've put into this graphics update.

BDO has a (mostly) modern renderer while FFXIV's tech is still on PS3 levels. They will need to make a new MMO if they want to attract new players at this point. Game is slowly growing in size yes but not to the pace at which gaming is growing in general.
Of course there is people like u, they already said they don't want to change the looks of the game, I love the looks of the game I don't think it dated, it just improve all the character models that looked plastic and polygony to more natural now, and that all I need leave the looks of ff14 the same it doesn't need a next gen thing, go play something else if u want that.
I'm SO happy with the graphics update! It's so much work from the developers, but it helps tremendously in making the game look less dated. I think that's huge for the continued longevity of FF14, and I'm really glad that the devs have the foresight to dedicate the resources to this task of essentially remastering the game.
its not much work, they basically did what reshade can do and baked it into the game. its all just texture maps. if they actually replaced all ttextures in the game with HQ ones that's be impressive. its 2024, we don need ps2 style floor textures. its always the same with ff14. i played the game for 8 years on and off since 2013 and they ALWAYS cut corners and try to save money. oh you want 3 dungeons? nah-ah, heres only 2 per patch cycle. oh you though we would add other good content? nah heres a trial and some meaningless side quests. oh you want better graphics? no proble, give us 6 years for a mediocre update. square enix is keeping this game on life support when it comes to new content patches. why invest more if the player keep eating up the same old forumlar with boring old recycled content. that gear you got in x.3 last expansion? guess what, its now the leveling gear, tough luck.

I put my hellsguard femroe through the benchmark and I'm pretty disappointed. They softened her nose smudge and pretty significantly changed the shape of her lips. And every time I tried to take a screenshot of her in the benchmark, she came out looking so sad. YoshiP, you gave my character depression! D:
Yeah, I also play a female Hellsguard and the fading of her ash mark is the biggest thing that stands out to me. If they are going to make clear style changes like that, I think they should make it a selectable option in the facial features section of the character designer, like iris size or beauty marks and scars. I haven't done a detailed side by side to consider the nose and lips but I have heard that criticism from other players! The main thing I am leery about right now is the level of skin translucency. In some lighting it makes people look waxy, though that might just be the character creator's lighting.

Even though I have to wait for dawntrail to enjoy(bc I'm playing this game in KR server), I am so glad about this upcoming expansion. My Au Ra looks so good with the update! The big thing I noticed was they improved the texture on the lips for face 1 and also made the chin less point on the female model so it looks more round and natural. I was going to switch to viera but after the update im keeping my au ra and might add the limbal ring since it looks like they majorly improved that! I didnt like how much it stood out before the update so its nice it is more blended now
I still wish that the benchmark was available to everyone, but I know this is the point of the benchmark to provide feedback and to make improvements. But overall I’m still very impressed with what we saw, ang I can’t wait to see how my bun boy looks in Dawntrail.
Im looking forward to seeing arr dungeons with better graphics. Also changing my character into a hrothgar female so I can finally make a character look like my cat.
I'm just looking forward to all the new stuff to see and do, honestly! Content to run, glams to acquire, new crafts and new treasure maps, heck yeah!!! Also re the benchmark changes: My fem duskwight elezen uses the roundest face shape, and it seems they slimmed it down a bit??? Her mouth now looks too wide for her face, but luckily there is another option I like! So tl;dr I like the changes for the most part and the one thing I don't I can easily fix with the free fantasia ^^
Came here because I heard bout a graphics update. I played FF14 years ago, very, very casually but FF14 peaked my interest again when a friend mentioned about a new expansion and graphics update. I'm quite disappointed actually. I was expecting and hoping some sort of visual overhaul, particularly for the skills for each class and I don't know, I guess just an overall game visual overall since it's quite old and not up to 2024 graphic standards. Unfortunately it seems it is just a skin/character visual overhaul. Can't say this will pull me back in, but thanks for the quick run down on the visual update.
I included only the character creation changes in this video! There will be improvements to environment, lighting, weather and other graphical settings as well. I will make an even more detailed comparison video to show off the other changes as well when the expansion is released. Happy to help!
During character creation I wasnt that impressed... but then I heard they didnt update the lighting there, so there's that. What I immediatly noticed were the eyes - love 'm ^.^ Also, the characters look way more life-like ingame than in the creation screen. Other than that... Please, fix the fluffy tails. Give the poor highlander their eyebrowns! And even though this might be a lighting thing but... I want my black hair back! The current version is... well, dark grey. And talking about hair... you just need to compare the old hairstyles with the single new one... its night and day. I *loved* what they did with the Roegadyns! I may not play one but I can appreciate what they did :) Overall, the benchmark is just that: a benchmark. Its not the finished product, barely a peep inside. I'm looking forewart to the update but other than that... DT is due the end of June (for me :P ) ! I'd rather they forget about the benchmark and its character creation flaws and focus on the job trailer for May :)
My Lalafell boy was immune to the faulty lighting it seems. There is an issue with soulless eyes. Mine is a milky white Dunesfolk, it's soulless as it should be. The shape of the face was another issue but my Lalafell face is still round. With closer inspection, it's even more round. And the texture being dull and flat, my Lalafell often gets mistaken with minions, a lifeless doll. It's all as it should be.
The nose knows. The ash mark removal is so odd, especially given that they stated intentions to make this just an update of existing appearances, rather than a redesign. Hopefully they restore the nose marks, or at least make darker marks a thing in the character creator for hellsguard.
@@yukonexpatriate4017 and the thing that kills me is sea wolves don't have it, so if you really don't want the smudge there is an option if you really can't stand the smudge.
I'm really happy with the update, my character really looks better. Although... he doesn't look quite the same. Thing is, I don't know if he's really that different or if it's just my eyes being unreasonably picky after having watched that same character nod through 500 hours of cutscenes.😅 I'm looking forward to the updated benchmark to see if it "fixes" him, but either way I'm very hyped with the updated graphics.
It was never the point to change it much, its just an enhancement. Even Yoshi P said not to expect too much, since they still want to keep players with low end systems. However if you played this for years this will DEFINITELY be a huge upgrade, not only graphics were enhanced but also the LIGHTING which was horrible at times.
i don't think the changes are huge, I would've liked to see a bit more improvement. but importantly (for me at least) I like the changes and I think it does look better even if it's subtle

Dude for real I just looked up the graphics comparison cause I just logged in on my ps5, frames are lower but I hardly see any changes at all. I've only been in Ul'dah and Kugane but they look the same to me 🤷♂️
It was clear to me that the environment in the benchmark character creator didn't get the update, but that didn't stop me to actually see how good the improvements are. People were exaggerating all the "Issues", I'm still glad they addressed it though. All my char presets looked fabulous in the benchmark and I'm definitely making a Cat Mom for the new MSQ. @@darthgorbag in the benchmark character creator it's the old one, that's why people were seeing weird lighting effects. Once you run the benchmark itself it's the new graphics, but the background when you create character it's clearly the old one... Not a big deal for most, but it's evident.
@@darthgorbag They gonna rework that for the benchmark. So there will be benchmark 2.0 that address the character creation part. I hope they add unlockable hairs to it since its kinda janky to preview unlockables.
@@Pandaxtor Especially unlockable hairs on hrothgals since we can't use the same trick to preview them for obvious reasons. Though I still feel like the whole "hairstyle is tied to face" thing is going to discourage some people from changing at all because they have a face they like, but don't care for the default hairstyles, or they love a certain hairstyle, but don't want the face at all. And while they *could* use an unlockable hairstyle, that requires them to actually obtain it, and goodness knows some of the more popular ones are expensive as is, now imagine them getting uncharged further because the sellers know there's a lot of female hrothgars out there with minimal options.

I thought the characters faces looked worse. I mean, the texture quality being higher is great, and I like the changes to the au ra horns, but the changes to the faces appearances coupled with everyone looking oily now is um... yeah... especially Veena, Idk what happened there.
I had to recreate my WoL to check how they'll look in Dawntrail, since I'm a console pleb. Although I couldn't pick my actual hairstyle, my character looked so damn good. I was a little afraid at first, because there were a lot of unsatisfied people, saying that their WoL's have been changed beyond recognition.
Overall impressed with the update, though I have a bit of a pet peeve with how my character's eyeliners look much thicker than they did before. My girl apparently went through a goth phase when I wasn't looking (Though I suppose it was inevitable, being a BLM main and all).
Modders can create super fluffy gorgeous tails in ff14 but a billion dollar company like SQ can't fix the fluffy version of the Miqo tail. Sheesh, how hard can it be?
I'm hoping more people will choose bigger lip styles with the graphics update, because some of them aren't "as bad" as some people would put it. That said, please stop using Face 4 Female Roegadyn, please, thanks everyone. No matter what mouth choice, you will always have thin lips with that face.
Love FF been playing it since the start of the ARR. But people overblowing this "Graphical update". It's not impressive when they only way to see it is to literally put things side by side. End of the day the game will still look outdated even with this update. The best thing they can do is change engines and make some real changes because the further we go the less appealing the game will look to new players.
I got a house in The Empyrean so there is that. I know lots of people have houses, but I've been bidding for on for years, and I really wanted one. So there is that :P

The Character creator is still crap and needs a rework, way too few options in general, and Aura are locked into their "ear horns" by selecting the face for example.

Sadly it’s more like a reskin than a graphics update. Ffxiv is way behind on the graphics compared to similarly aged games like black desert.

I put my hellsguard femroe through the benchmark and I'm pretty disappointed. They softened her nose smudge and pretty significantly changed the shape of her lips. And every time I tried to take a screenshot of her in the benchmark, she came out looking so sad. YoshiP, you gave my character depression! D:
Yeah, I also play a female Hellsguard and the fading of her ash mark is the biggest thing that stands out to me. If they are going to make clear style changes like that, I think they should make it a selectable option in the facial features section of the character designer, like iris size or beauty marks and scars. I haven't done a detailed side by side to consider the nose and lips but I have heard that criticism from other players! The main thing I am leery about right now is the level of skin translucency. In some lighting it makes people look waxy, though that might just be the character creator's lighting.
I don't have the best system to run that benchmark but I could see even my femroe looked a but weird.
Thanks for all your work and efforts! I play as male miqo'te and I absolutely love the improvement of graphics in dawntrail. Even though I have to wait for dawntrail to enjoy(bc I'm playing this game in KR server), I am so glad about this upcoming expansion. I really love your content, and I look forward to watching more videos about FF14.
My Au Ra looks so good with the update! The big thing I noticed was they improved the texture on the lips for face 1 and also made the chin less point on the female model so it looks more round and natural. I was going to switch to viera but after the update im keeping my au ra and might add the limbal ring since it looks like they majorly improved that! I didnt like how much it stood out before the update so its nice it is more blended now
I still wish that the benchmark was available to everyone, but I know this is the point of the benchmark to provide feedback and to make improvements. But overall I’m still very impressed with what we saw, ang I can’t wait to see how my bun boy looks in Dawntrail.

Also re the benchmark changes: My fem duskwight elezen uses the roundest face shape, and it seems they slimmed it down a bit??? Her mouth now looks too wide for her face, but luckily there is another option I like!
So tl;dr I like the changes for the most part and the one thing I don't I can easily fix with the free fantasia ^^
Came here because I heard bout a graphics update. I played FF14 years ago, very, very casually but FF14 peaked my interest again when a friend mentioned about a new expansion and graphics update. I'm quite disappointed actually. I was expecting and hoping some sort of visual overhaul, particularly for the skills for each class and I don't know, I guess just an overall game visual overall since it's quite old and not up to 2024 graphic standards. Unfortunately it seems it is just a skin/character visual overhaul. Can't say this will pull me back in, but thanks for the quick run down on the visual update.
I included only the character creation changes in this video! There will be improvements to environment, lighting, weather and other graphical settings as well. I will make an even more detailed comparison video to show off the other changes as well when the expansion is released. Happy to help!
During character creation I wasnt that impressed... but then I heard they didnt update the lighting there, so there's that. What I immediatly noticed were the eyes - love 'm ^.^ Also, the characters look way more life-like ingame than in the creation screen. Other than that... Please, fix the fluffy tails. Give the poor highlander their eyebrowns! And even though this might be a lighting thing but... I want my black hair back! The current version is... well, dark grey. And talking about hair... you just need to compare the old hairstyles with the single new one... its night and day.
I *loved* what they did with the Roegadyns! I may not play one but I can appreciate what they did :) Overall, the benchmark is just that: a benchmark. Its not the finished product, barely a peep inside. I'm looking forewart to the update but other than that... DT is due the end of June (for me :P ) ! I'd rather they forget about the benchmark and its character creation flaws and focus on the job trailer for May :)
My Lalafell boy was immune to the faulty lighting it seems. There is an issue with soulless eyes. Mine is a milky white Dunesfolk, it's soulless as it should be. The shape of the face was another issue but my Lalafell face is still round. With closer inspection, it's even more round. And the texture being dull and flat, my Lalafell often gets mistaken with minions, a lifeless doll. It's all as it should be.
My Lalafell eyes are milky white as well like the snow ❄️ in a cold winter.
the second female au ra face is actually cute now! they don't look like fish!
Pupils and teeth should be customizable 😭

I love my WoL with the graphics update, but she's a hellsguard, and her smudge has been stolen from her.
The nose knows. The ash mark removal is so odd, especially given that they stated intentions to make this just an update of existing appearances, rather than a redesign. Hopefully they restore the nose marks, or at least make darker marks a thing in the character creator for hellsguard.
@@yukonexpatriate4017 and the thing that kills me is sea wolves don't have it, so if you really don't want the smudge there is an option if you really can't stand the smudge.
I'm really happy with the update, my character really looks better. Although... he doesn't look quite the same. Thing is, I don't know if he's really that different or if it's just my eyes being unreasonably picky after having watched that same character nod through 500 hours of cutscenes.😅
I'm looking forward to the updated benchmark to see if it "fixes" him, but either way I'm very hyped with the updated graphics.
Let's be honest, the graphics didn't change much
It was never the point to change it much, its just an enhancement. Even Yoshi P said not to expect too much, since they still want to keep players with low end systems.
However if you played this for years this will DEFINITELY be a huge upgrade, not only graphics were enhanced but also the LIGHTING which was horrible at times.
i don't think the changes are huge, I would've liked to see a bit more improvement. but importantly (for me at least) I like the changes and I think it does look better even if it's subtle
@@Jimu69 for some theyre even too much! Ofc i would wish for more also but they wanna keep their old base too...but yeah for me whos been playing for 8 years its huge lol. And remember these arent the only enhancements, we got better textures also like metal looking actually shiny now. Im sure theres even more they havent showed!
Dude for real I just looked up the graphics comparison cause I just logged in on my ps5, frames are lower but I hardly see any changes at all. I've only been in Ul'dah and Kugane but they look the same to me 🤷♂️

It was clear to me that the environment in the benchmark character creator didn't get the update, but that didn't stop me to actually see how good the improvements are. People were exaggerating all the "Issues", I'm still glad they addressed it though. All my char presets looked fabulous in the benchmark and I'm definitely making a Cat Mom for the new MSQ. WHAT??!? They didn't update the environment??? So the colors are still unnaturally desaturated throughout most of the game!?!? That was the biggest reason a graphics update was even needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@darthgorbag in the benchmark character creator it's the old one, that's why people were seeing weird lighting effects. Once you run the benchmark itself it's the new graphics, but the background when you create character it's clearly the old one... Not a big deal for most, but it's evident.

@@darthgorbag They gonna rework that for the benchmark. So there will be benchmark 2.0 that address the character creation part. I hope they add unlockable hairs to it since its kinda janky to preview unlockables.

Though I still feel like the whole "hairstyle is tied to face" thing is going to discourage some people from changing at all because they have a face they like, but don't care for the default hairstyles, or they love a certain hairstyle, but don't want the face at all. And while they *could* use an unlockable hairstyle, that requires them to actually obtain it, and goodness knows some of the more popular ones are expensive as is, now imagine them getting uncharged further because the sellers know there's a lot of female hrothgars out there with minimal options.

Hi male Miqo'te here. Yeah I was conflicted too cause like, there was clearly a massive improvement to the textures so my armor looks beautiful and you can see the details more and the world looks more vibrant and real but my face looks like... Literally EXACTLY the same except I'm paler. Soooo much paler. Like porcelain
That free Fantasia will hopefully be my last. So I’m very excited to change over to the Elezen race with their new and improved look, right before Heavensward

The new graphics really speeding up my interests in alt characters. If only because I'm so attached to my OC.
I thought the characters faces looked worse. I mean, the texture quality being higher is great, and I like the changes to the au ra horns, but the changes to the faces appearances coupled with everyone looking oily now is um... yeah... especially Veena, Idk what happened there.
I had to recreate my WoL to check how they'll look in Dawntrail, since I'm a console pleb. Although I couldn't pick my actual hairstyle, my character looked so damn good.
I was a little afraid at first, because there were a lot of unsatisfied people, saying that their WoL's have been changed beyond recognition.
Overall impressed with the update, though I have a bit of a pet peeve with how my character's eyeliners look much thicker than they did before. My girl apparently went through a goth phase when I wasn't looking (Though I suppose it was inevitable, being a BLM main and all).
No 120 fps for consoles?
Modders can create super fluffy gorgeous tails in ff14 but a billion dollar company like SQ can't fix the fluffy version of the Miqo tail. Sheesh, how hard can it be?
A very odd and seemingly insignificant thing, I know, but I honestly am looking forward to the more realistic, blanket effect that fog will have xD
I'm hoping more people will choose bigger lip styles with the graphics update, because some of them aren't "as bad" as some people would put it.
That said, please stop using Face 4 Female Roegadyn, please, thanks everyone. No matter what mouth choice, you will always have thin lips with that face.
Love FF been playing it since the start of the ARR. But people overblowing this "Graphical update". It's not impressive when they only way to see it is to literally put things side by side. End of the day the game will still look outdated even with this update. The best thing they can do is change engines and make some real changes because the further we go the less appealing the game will look to new players.
I got a house in The Empyrean so there is that. I know lots of people have houses, but I've been bidding for on for years, and I really wanted one. So there is that :P
Lol I wish this game had like small human sized elves, bit taller than the Miqo lol, I’ve always liked elves but I wish they weren’t so girrafey, or had the option like mid and highlanders.

I'll probably get hate for it, but while some of this is nice, especially that old pixelated hair... I really wish they went further. A lot of things are barely noticeable.
The Character creator is still crap and needs a rework, way too few options in general, and Aura are locked into their "ear horns" by selecting the face for example.
