Varok Saurfang says "Let it be finished" at the start of the duel with Sylvanas. This same words are said by his son when attacking Arthas in the Wrathgate cinematic, which got him killed.
Also the way that Anduin helps carry Varok's body is a reference to how his father (King Varian) helped Varok's son body be carried after he was killed later (when he was raised by the Lich King).

There are so many callbacks in that cinematic. The line “we don’t get to hide” referencing Safe Haven, the literal name-drop of the Old Soldier cinematic, the line “you cannot kill hope” referencing some of the final words of Delaryn Summermoon on the beaches of Darkshore from Sylvanas’ Warbringers episode where she burns Teldrassil, and the “let it be finished” line referencing the Wrathgate.

The other thing no one EVER seems to points out is that he gave him Shalamayne. Everyone looks at that and goes, “Oh that’s nice.”
That sword is about as close to a physical representation to Anduin’s father as you can get. A weapon of the light, one two blades, returned to one. He found it at the Broken Isles after his fathers death and reawakened the blades power, symbolizing his readiness to lead the Alliance.
And he GAVE it to Saurfang. Not only that, Saurfang lost his axe and instead used only the sword to strike at Sylvannas.
Honestly teared up at the moment the first time I saw it.

Well, since art style changed a lot over the years, and we have a comeback of numerous characters, here I will inform who they are again:
6:28 Malfurion - The Archdruid of the Night Elf, brother to Illidan, played a mayor role in stopping the legion as well as many other events over the year. Powerful enough to contemn entire continent in vines.
also 6:28 Tyrande - Priestess of Elune, wife to Malfurion (And one Illidan used to love) Powerful night elf, but once she became an Avatar of darker half of the Elune, her power is believed to be above that of Malfurion
14:22 Thrall - He led the Horde all the way back in Warcraft 3, powerful Shaman and skilled Warrior. He and Saurfang are not brothers, at least not in blood, but Saurfang is a veteran that served under Thrall for many years.
35:35 Wrathion - The only cleansed Black Dragon. After Deathwing got corrupted, all other Black Dragons went insane as well, Wrathion's egg was secured before he got hatched and cleansed, as such he is the only Black Dragon believed to be free of madness. That being said, there is no guarantee how will he proceed further on in the story.
27:55 Mak'Gora - not a character, but rather an event, a honorable battle 1v1. Duel to the death, use of magic is prohibited.
There were numerous Mak'Gora's over the years, but most notable would be:
Garrosh Hellscream vs Cairne Bloodhoof - Battle for control over the Horde, Cairne challenged Garrosh in order to stop him from continous murders of innocents. Cairne demolished Garrosh, however Garosh managed to inflict a single, tiny wound on Cairne. Neither warrior knew it, but in secret, Garrosh's supporter poisoned the axe, and as result, Cairne died.
(Cairne was the strongest warrior on Azeroth and father to Baine Bloodhoof, whom you saw a lot in this expansion)
Thrall vs Garrosh - After Garrosh escaped the court which was meant to decide his fate, Thrall tracked Grrosh down and fought him. Thrall lost the fight, but cheated, using Shaman elements to bind and kill Garrosh. As result elements turned away from Thrall, and he lost his shamanic powers.
And lastly Saurfang vs Sylvanas. Sylvanas would have won anyway, but since she got pissed she cheated on eyes of everyone. Honor is the most important to the Horde, so their Warchief cheating is unimaginable.
As you can see, most notable Mak'Goras ended in cheating :/

He was the reedeemer of the ors, and lead them from warcraft 3 to the end of the lichking, very good friend of jaina, some actually speculated they will end up as couple one day, but jaina still loves arthas.

Going to assume you guys havn't read the extra content around the game. Baine's words to jaina about family were particularly heavy. His father was Cairne and for warcraft nerds he was pretty much a combo of bernie sanders and the hulk. He saved the orcs when they first arrived on Kalimdor and he was pretty much the spiritual leader of the horde. Never pushed for war, preferred to live and let live with their neighbors. But would NEVER let anyone take advantage of him or his people. All around an awesome grandpa cow and major figure in the horde.
Then Garrosh becomes warchief. His view of the world was to plunge the horde into war because he felt thats where they thrived and their cities were stagnating/starving. Cairne opposed this, but initially did not push back much because the alliance was also being slightly dickish and cairne thought he could mentor garrosh into a better leader. It wasn't until a horrible incident that Cairne had enough and challenged garrosh for leadership of the horde. Longer story short, they were both betrayed and Cairn was poisoned/killed mid fight. Big funeral held and even thrall came back to say his good-byes, taking with him a piece of Cairn's shattered spear with a rune on it that translated into "healing". All during a time where the horde was fighting the world.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Also, the orc you are referring to as Saurfang's "brother" is Thrall. He pretty much freed the horde from the bloodlust (Warcraft 3) and was warchief during Vanilla, TBC and Wrath of the Lich King. In Cataclysm (Deathwing) he went back to being a shaman and passed the mantle of Warchief to Garrosh. He pretty much dealt the killing blow to Deathwing using an artifact called Dragon Soul. By some antifans he is referred to as "green Jesus". His history with Jaina goes way back to the beginning of Warcraft 3

Thrall the big orc talking with Saurfang is one of big OG characters and the greatest Shaman ever.
He was basically the founder of the new horde which is the one we know and is right now. While he was also probably the greatest leader they had.
But he later left the duty as a leader and gave it to Garrosh, who started of good but then later Garrosh basically became a tyrant and had a hate crusade against the other races of the horde who are not orcs, he is also the reason Jaina turned and started to hate the horde instead of liking them seeking peace.
As Garrosh basically nuclear bombed her city with all her friends
and her people die from inceneration infront of her, she survived but recieved the white hair we see now.
But Garrosh was later put down by the alliance and the horde resistance.
Ever since then the horde have basically turned to shit without Thrall as their leader.
Also the second cutscenes with the forest fight.
Those two elfs standing together are also one of the big og characters.
The one who can turn to a bear with wings on the arms is Malfurion, a druid and probably one of the most powerfull characters they have on azeroth.
The other one standing beside him is Tyrande who is a great warrior too and basically the main leader of the night elfs

We defeated the legion then went straight into a faction war which culminated in the death of an old god, then sylvanas shatters the helm of domination and breaks the cycle of death, all in the span of what? like a year? give us some time to breathe. BFA should have just been about the faction war, redefining the horde and alliance in this new world, then "shadowlands" should have been an N'Zoth Expansion with some foreshadowing for the cycle of death being fucked up/ bolvar almost falling to the crown.

    @TheCuriousOwlbear Рік тому +1

I love the eye contact (and lack thereof) in this video. Anduin arrives and speaks directly to Saurfang who doesn't meet his gaze until Anduin locks himself in the cell with his prisoner. Anduin asks, "Why didn't you kill me" while staring directly at Saurfang. Saurfang's eyes speak truth when he utters the line, "Could kill you know." Anduin takes this statement of fact, choosing not to argue it or remind Saurfang of his current position, and continues his speech.
"I spared you because I believed you have honor." Saurfang cannot hold his deathly gaze any longer. His honor dictates that Anduin is his enemy and he will not betray the Horde. Anduin is now holding his gaze and prods further, "do you want more innocents to suffer?" Saurfang reveals his rage at Sylvanas as well as her actions in recent history and Anduin does not avert his eye contact.
Anduin pleads once again, "Tell me why you spared my life." In this moment, Anduin hopes to appeal to Saurfang's honor. This is the third time, and most direct approach, that Anduin has taken. After a moment of contemplation, Saurfang chooses his words carefully, "I hoped you would stop her" with a side-eye glance. Saurfang wants to see the emotion in Anduin's eyes when he finally gives up the truth.
Anduin meets the glance once again. "I cannot" Anduin says as he looks away for a moment in shame. "Not alone". He turns his back on the prisoner who has truthfully told Anduin that he could kill him. Saurfang's jaw drops slightly in surprise as the gate is left open.
    --
These are two enemies who have lived through war, famine, and plagues. They have killed, bled, and lost for their factions. In this conversation, they threw their upbringings aside and put full trust in one another.

So about Bwonsamedi. I can see why you think he's bad, the "Evil Rafiki" I believe you called him. Many characters in game have the perception Bwonsamedi is evil as well as he is the Loa of Graves and Death; as he said himself he makes things wither and die. However, he is very much the Grim Reaper of Troll society, he shepherds souls to the afterlife; Troll prosperity is his own prosperity and he honestly does care greatly for all Trolls. In the next expansion, Shadowlands, the main plot hook is we learn that souls are failing to reach the afterlife and their souls are being sent to The Maw, which is essentially Warcraft Hell. In the book Shadows Rising which is the precursor to Shadowlands we learn that Bwonsamedi is under attack by the forces behind this disturbance in the land of the dead, because he realized something was wrong in the Shadowlands and souls were going to The Maw so he was actively collecting all souls that came through his domain of influence, he was safeguarding souls from falling into Hell and keeping them from passing over until the way is fixed. It then fell upon the Trolls to rescue their own God of Death from dying. His union of power with Queen Talanji afterwards is truly a beautiful thing.

so the orc you didn't know who was. That is Thrall. The first leader of the new horde. The shaman who in warcraft 3 was contacted by Medivh to lead the horde. He was the warchief of the horde for a very long time but after Warlords of draenor when he killed Garrosh on top of the hill. He felt lost. He retired and went to live with his wife and kid. Saurfang went to save him from Sylvanas' assassins and try and get his help to win back the horde.
I know you're probably aware of this by now. But your cinematics for Battle for Azeroth has been quite jumbled. I don't blame you. It's mainly because the horde and alliance had quite different stories. But it does mess with the understanding of these cinematics.

Just HAD to add though- I looked through the comments and while everyone mentioned that Thrall and Varrock Saurfang weren't brothers, NOBODY bothered to mention that Thrall is the son of Durotan, whom you met in Lords of War. (Who led the Frostwolf clan.)

Hi! It's me again, in the comments!
Yeah I don't have anything else to recommend or point out at this point, but my own personal peeve on this line.
"What I want is my Horde back!"
Saurfang was in every war since the first war between orcs and humans. I'm not sure if there were more, I don't care anyway. But he says something later about how the Horde had nothing but blood on its hands. Let me rewind things for a bit.
Years ago, an orc called Gul'dan rallied several families and clansmen together and corrupted them. Together they formed the Horde. Under Gul'dan's corruption, the Horde ravaged its own homeland, forcing them to eventually rely on fighting one another to sate the bloodlust. The promise of a new world to conquer was the ultimate relief for them. The Horde was built on bloodlust and evil magic.
Gul'dan led the Horde and appointed Warchief Blackhand to lead the excursion to Azeroth. He was corrupted, and his men followed that pattern, most of which were raiders, warlocks and demonistic necrolytes. The Horde was dark into corruption. Even Blackhand's second-in-command Orgrim Doomhammer followed this path by backstabbing him, and taking his mantle by force.
Though now he had the whole Horde under his command (Including Gul'dan and his shady allies) Doomhammer still led a corruption-driven force across the Eastern Kingdoms in his conquest. His whole war machine ended when Gul'dan abandoned the Horde to further expand his powers, taking a lot of the Horde with him in the process, and leaving the Horde very wide open to a counter-attack.
Long story short, after the Second War, the Horde had no leader, and the orcs fell to lethargy, not caring that they were imprisoned in Alliance internment camps. Thrall managed to find remnants of the Horde in Drek'thar (Alongside a well-hidden Grom Hellscream and a sneakily well-hidden Orgrim Doomhammer) and reignited the good side of his people by freeing them with the power of shamanism. Being the only good orc to lead the Horde with no corruption, Thrall rallied several savage yet civilized races and clans into his new Horde, creating a form of community among it.
After Wrath of the Lich King, Grom's son, Garrosh, was appointed as Warchief while Thrall went to deal with some dragon and a whirlpool or something. I think he even got a wife, too, point in case, he left the Horde, and the only sanity it had a chance to develop perished when he left. Garrosh brutally used the Horde as his personal weapon to fuel his own pride. It was, once again, corrupted. All of the friendlier races among it did not want anything to do with it, and that's why we have a Siege of Orgrimmar event raid now.
Vol'jin led the Horde when the Iron Horde was created. Again, created by Garrosh as his own weapon but with someone else at the reins, it also fell to corruption when Gul'dan tricked it into doing it.
After Vol'jin died, Sylvanas led the Horde. Well, was appointed as Warchief. She did nothing with it. Once she started building enemies, she hid behind the Horde to make them fight. It's at that point that the Horde realized they no longer had anything else to fight for. Every time the Horde was corrupted, it stood ready to tear things apart. Without that corruption, it does not go to peace. It grows antsy and stressed.
Saurfang saw the corrupt Horde trough and through. Served into it for many years. He doesn't want the antsy stressful days. He does not want the corruption back...
What does he want, then? What does he want 'back'? I think he was just caged and didn't truly know what he wanted differently. The Horde was constructed from evil corruption, and its creators knew it. But those born into it do not see this, they see it as home, for better and worse.
There is an in-game quest cutscene much later after Saurfang's burial that shows all the leaders of the Horde races rally and ponder with severe angst about who the next warchief will be. Eventually they settle with no warchief, for a warchief implies leading war. With no more war going on, and all the good orc blood spilled from those wars, frankly, the orcs are, in the Horde, becoming a minority. Darkspear Trolls, Mulgore Tauren, Lordaeron humans and Silvermoon Blood Elves, Kezan goblins, Huojin Pandaren, Suramar Nightborne elves, Highmountain Tauren, Mag'har Orcs, Zandalari Trolls and Voldunai Vulpera are all races that have put their honor before survival, and rallied together to form the Horde. The Vulperas especially, joined the Horde out of a blood debt and sheer respect. They were the only race to not join in to increase a war effort, and even though the Alliance attacked them first, the Vulperas joined with the Horde much later after the war was over and all. So to put it simply, the orcs left their mark, and served their purpose. They've shown the example, now the others follow. The cutscene ends with no warchief being set. The leaders of every Horde race, however, formed the Horde Council. And that's something I prefer.

Despite never playing the game, you two are pretty on point when it comes to Saurfang. He'd been seeking his death for a while, since his son died at the Wrathgate before Arthas. His faith in the Horde was shaken by Sylvanas and her burning of Teldrassil. Many players on the Horde had major issues with what Sylvanas did there and the developers portrayed our feelings through the journey of Saurfang. I ended up swapping sides all throughout Battle of Azeroth due to what Sylvanas did. I just couldn't stomach being on her side. Oh, and that "Dracula" looking guy you keep seeing is Nathanos Blightcaller, he's Sylvanas' right hand man and is in love with her. He's just as despised as Sylvanas by many of us.

The cinematics in Battle for Azeroth are some of my favourites. Even though the expansion wasn't perfect I actually quite enjoyed the story. I liked the return to the faction conflict between the Horde and Alliance, mostly because it has always been the core of of the Warcraft universe. But to this day the ending of the expansion infuriates me. It was so incredibly bad, mostly because the build up was so good. With the Azshara cinematic and other special teasers in Kul'tiras, N'zoth was set out to be such an amazing villain. We have only read about N'zoth and the other old gods in books and we know how powerful they are since the main reason the legion even existed was to destroy these Old Gods. And after all this build up to basically defeating him in 1 hour, it was the most disappointing thing ever.
I remember how much the whole community hated it. There were so many dislikes on the cinematic on the official WoW channel that Blizzard had to disable the like to dislike ratio and even
unlisted the video. N'zoth and the Old Gods should have gotten their own expasnion just like how the legion did but instead we got a cheap Lord of the Rings copy ending and a very sour taste in everyones mouth about the expansion and it's story.
So disappointing to see something with so much potential to be wasted away in one cheap cinematic. Plus the entire "peace" between the Alliance and Horde is so incredibly cheap and idealistic. Especially after such a devastating war the "we are now best buds because we worked together" dosen't make any sense. So everyone is just going to forget about all the atrocities the Horde has committed ? And the "well it was Sylvanas who ordered those things, so she is the main bad" dosen't excuse any of their actions because when Sylvanas ordered the burning of Teldrassil, everyone followed her orders and no one even made an attempt to stop her or her sudden war with the Alliance, it was only by the end of the war. It's like as if after WW2 everyone would just forgive Germany because Hitler was giving the orders. It dosen't work like that and someone has to take war responsibility.
The Alliance and Horde has worked together before to defeat a common enemy so this supposed "team up" dosen't have any meaning and certainly dosen't make any sense. Plus now the whole PvP aspect to the game dosen't make any sense either because like... who are we fighting? If I go into a match and kill a bunch of Alliance players, it's going to be weird because we are now supposed to be best buds. The faction PvP and combat between players was so good in part due to "Fighting for the Alliance or the Horde" had actual meaning, some sort of "patriotism" so to speak. It wasn't like random players battling each other it truly felt like a faction vs faction thing. But now it's just weird...
Okay I'm going to stop rambling because the whole community has already expressed all this before and heavily criticized Blizzard for their storytelling.
But the video was great guys! I always love hearing your thoughts about these events and characters. Excited for more! :)

Ah Varok Saurfang...what a character. Second most favorite orc of mine just behind drek thar. Now Varok went through it all, he was one of the OG orcs in draenor who was tricked into a pact with demons like so many of them were, he went from noble warrior to savage killer, and the screams of all the draenei he killed and raped under the influence of demon blood haunt him still so so many decades later, he wont eat meat, cause it reminds him of the things he did to the Dranei.
He was there in the first war, creating a new home for his people, he fozght in the second war and saw it ruined and his people inprisoned, he fought in the 3rd war, to reforge the horde, rid the orcs of demon influence for good, and retake the honor and peaceful shamanic ways his people had originally.
He lead the fight against the old god Ctun in the sands of Silithus, he lead the horde to victory in outland, he lost his son in the war against the lich king, heck he could have been warchief if he wanted, he rebelled against Garroshes tyranny and then against sylvannas, all the wile being loyal to the horde.
This dude never knew anything but war...and is about 100 years old here.

So, Saurfang, Thrall, Jaina and the Spymaster rescues him(together with us players, as it is a quest). Already stated in some comments, but thrall, isn't saurfangs brother, he was a person that unified orcs, helped them escape human death camps, meet tauren, trolls and forsaken, and found the horde
Was a warchief for a while, after cataclysm, sending himself over to the wound in the world, to help heal it , and appointed garrosh as warchief , which you know now, how ended.
There are plenty of dragon broods, wrathion, son of deathwing, is 1 of only few black dragons alive thst avoided corruption from nzoth other eggs were destroyed/lost. He spent a lot of time trying to develop a way of never falling to the corruption in the future.
As sylvanas exiled herself from the horde, thrall as ex warchief along with leaders of every race, belonging to the horde, decided to make a council instead of having a singular leader, at least for now
    Time for shadowlands :) :) :)

Great reaction as always. A little bit of behind-the-scenes info. Thrall (Saurfang's friend) is the same guy who killed Deathwing, killed Garrosh (in WoD), and was also Warchief of the Horde before Cataclysm. Alliance and Horde made peace after this. Horde leaders decided that there is no need for a warchief in times of peace and formed a council instead with a representative from each Horde race. The Dracula guy with red eyes is Nathanos Blightcaller and he is the boyfriend of Sylvanas (really). Night elves are unhappy about the peace because they won't accept it unless Sylvanas is brought to justice. Tyrande Whisperwind (leader of n. elves) is leading the hunt for Sylvanas. In hopes to stand against her, she took into herself powers of the dark side of the moon. These powers put her on a godlike power level but are also slowly killing her. The rest of the story unfolds in the Shadowlands :)

While the first few cinematics make sense without too much information required to tie them together, the Rise of Azshara patch cinematics are about Sylvanas making a deal with Azshara, and part of that deal, Azshara requested Xal'atath, that magical dagger to be delivered to her in Nazjatar for some reason. Later through the story it is revealed that Azshara had an ulterior motive and that once she releases N'zoth from his prison beneath the ocean, he would've been weak enough for her to drive the dagger in him and essentially trapping him inside it, but of course the heroes were trying to stop her from releasing him in the first place, but they were too late.
So when N'zoth was released, he resurrected Azshara with his void tendrils and sucked her into his 'mind' realm, Ny'alotha, which is basically a made-up location, an illusion/vision of the future, but as the Old Gods like N'zoth have great powers over mind control, that illusion/vision is very real and corporeal. So anyway, he abducts her to have his minions torture her for her ulterior motives to go against him, and as the heroes fight through Ny'alotha to defeat N'zoth, one of the encounters is killing those minions who are torturing Azshara, who at this point reveals to us that Xal'atath was what is needed to defeat N'zoth. So Wrathion, despite not being too happy about it, makes a deal with her, she gives him the dagger for her freedom, and so she portals to a place yet unknown while Wrathion gets the dagger and as you saw uses it later on to attack N'zoth's huge body.
Though, and this is just a theory as it has not been confirmed, since we're only in his mind and it isn't his actual body since he is still down below the ocean for the purpose that Old Gods were made (to latch their tentacles onto the world and burrow them deep into the world-soul and not let go like a tick), so plunging the dagger in his body weakens him only, opening his carapace up and ushering forth that huge monstrosity before the heroes go inside and defeat him.
Again, and this is a theory of mine, as we are only within this vision-given-corporeal-form, blasting him from existence wipes out his mind only, essentially leaving him brain-dead and his entire body is still resting on the bottom of the ocean. Of course, as I said earlier, Old Gods have great power over the mind, and being such immortal godly beings, I doubt the brain-deadness is permanent as it would be in a normal human being.
So Azshara is still out there, and the only thing we know is what she said before leaving, which is that she is tired of dealing with heralds (of the old gods) and such (having to answer to someone, I suppose), and she now seeks the 'true throne of power', whatever that may reveal to be in the future expansions.

Her motivation is something that the story will dive more into later.
41:25 No, only Wrathion is a dragon, the other dude was just undead.

I wish there was a super edit with the raid encounters for the Battle of Dazar'alor in this. It is so disjointed and incomplete with just the cutscenes and having almost zero knowledge of the Zandalari Empire in general.
Bethany, I've said it before. Sylvanas played us the entire way through. She used the Forsaken as a vehicle for her vengeance against Arthas, the Horde as an ablative shield against the Alliance, and after Arthas was killed at the top of Icecrown Citadel, she attempted suicide by throwing herself off the apex. She saw what awaited her in the afterlife and when she was offered a chance to return to life by the Valkyr, she accepted and came back to us. At that point, she would do ANYTHING to stave off dying again and that colored her actions entire. I can't go into it much deeper without major spoilers for Shadowlands, suffice it to say that she put on a good act the entire way through until she got to the point of not having to anymore.
I don't care what the writers do with her in Shadowlands (yes, I know a great deal of it), there is no room for forgiveness in the hearts of the Forsaken. The fact we understand her pain and motivations doesn't make it any better.

Yeah. He was a cool character who got a great ending. Can't say that I was ever a Saurfang Fanboy or anything but, I think he's pretty well known and loved by all Horde players. Maybe if I mained orcs instead of undead that would be different. But, I still REALLY felt that line when he was talking about never knowing honor. And when he brings up the Path of Glory. Oof. He had a few years of "honorable" service during Thrall's reign at the start of the new Horde. But I think it was straight onto Garrosh after that, wasn't it? Such a tragic tale. T_T

And during garrosh trail in pandaria they asked saurfang what do to about garrosh according to him, and he said that he should battle garrosh in a makgora, If garrosh won over saurfang he would be free of The accusations and set free but would have to start over as a low footsoldier. He felt that HE had failed garrosh as his teacher and mentor, just like thrall feelt, and that he was partly guilty to the crimes garrosh did because of he feelt honorbound as his mentor. The Dracula guy on the ship is Nathanos Blightbringer, Sylvanas' lieutenant, huntsman. He's undead, just a particularly powerful one. In the original World of Warcraft he was an open world raid boss, hostile to alliance, and a questgiver for the horde, and he was legendarily difficult to kill, becoming a fan favourite.
As others have told you, Saurfang's 'brother' is Thrall, arguably Warcraft's main character. He was the Orc in the Warcraft 3 cinematics, and Warchief until Cataclysm, where he retired to be a Shaman, then presumably to farm in Nagrand. He has a long history with Jaina - she reminds him of the human girl who saved his life when he was a prisoner of war.

So in the ship battle scene where Jaina is leading the Kul'tiran navy into the troll kingdom's ships and she asks about the gnome's (Gelbin Mekkatorque) secret contraption and then you see all the bombs go off when he activates it- you guys seemed to wonder how the bombs got on the ship. At the beginning of the scene a guy named Mathias Shaw, leader of the SI:7 which is effectively the WoW version of the CIA and Mathias tells Jaina that their stealth mission was a success and spies had cleared the area- that was the bombs being planted.

  • @OGRitchie
    @OGRitchie 2 роки тому +2

    Story time, again! :)
So basically starting with the second trailer, that is the revenge of the Night Elves for the burning down of Teldrassil, the World Tree that was their home. The shapeshifting dude is Malfurion, the most powerful druid of the lore at this time, at least I believe. He is Illidan's brother. And the lady next to him with the black eyes was Tyrande. You saw her a couple times, in Illidan's vision and when Ysera died. She got very angry about the burning of the tree and she asked Elune, the Goddess of the Night Elves (She is getting more information shared about her, but for us she was still this mysterius deity that we did not exactly know where she fit), to grant her the power of the Night Warrior. Which is supposed to be this very powerful, very deadly entity, unfortunately it is so much power that a mortal cannot wield it for long.
Bit of trivia about this, there are two Warfronts in the game, this one "Battle for Darkshore" and a "Battle for Stromgarde". Cannonically, both were won by the Alliance.
The next one is about the attack on Zandalar, the Zandalari Troll capital. The bombs were placed there by us, the players, on a mission with SI:7, the secret service (Matthias Shaw, the Spymaster, is the leader of that one.) Because Zandalari fleet had more range and were stronger than ours, so we needed to destroy them. Alliance then proceeded to enter the city, kill King Rastakhan and retreat with Jaina covering the retreat (She got quite severely injured by the horde, but you see that she is fine).
The Ork that Saurfang met was Thrall, they are not brothers, just old friends. And Thrall was the Warchief of the Horde at the beginning, I am sure you read his story here in the comments a couple times already.
The "dracula", his name is Nathanos Blightcaller and he used to be a human ranger that was the only one allowed to train with the High Elven archers, because he was just that good. He then got killed and ressurected, so he is undead now. He is a very controversial character, because noone really likes him, especially the horde which had to spend with him quite substatial amount of time. He is basically Sylvanas' boytoy for the lack of a better word. (The controversy there is that the writer who creates the story is self-inserting himself into Nathanos so he can date Sylvanas .. a bit crazy, but considering what was happening and how strong he is for no reason - with the help of one Val'kyr he was able to keep back angry Tyrande with the power of the Night Warrior, it was a bit weird, I mean Tyrande killed the Val'kyr afterwards, but still.)
Azshara on the ground was part of the end-raid cinematic after we as players killed her. It was all a trap, we were wearing these necklaces (actually cannonically only one of us had it) and were charging this device around the room to keep ourselves from dying. Unfortunately through that, we were unlocking the prison in which the old god N'zoth was imprisoned. So he got free, revived Azshara and later in the raid he tortures her, FYI we did not kill her again so ... future? The High-Elf next to Jaina in that cinematic and then later is Lor'themar Theron, the leader of the Blood Elves. He is a very clever leader, especially since he does not really want to be, he was kind of forced into it.
Later on the tower, you see an elf in red armor and green eyes to which Anduid hands the sword to. That this Valeera Sanguinar, she is a blood elf but on the side of the Alliance, sort of. Because her allegiance belongs to Anduin's father and by extension to him. She and Varian were through a lot together and she was his gladiator partner together with a druid as well.
Wrathion, the dragon. You have figured out that he is the son of Deathwing. Wiki actually shows him as a grand-child of deathwing, not sure if that has been retconned since or something. He schemes in the background kind of, he was first shown in the Mists of Pandaria I believe. Also he is still very young, that is why his dragon form is not very big. He helped us alot with the "not going insane" kind of deal. And when he was attacking N'zoth with the knife (which was a very special dagger, actually one of the weapons that we used to use as artifact weapons in legion, it has a very long story itself), he was opening the Carapace of N'zoth for us, so we can go inside and kill him.
The last cinematic was kind of a disappointment on the part of players and you have actually seen only one half of it, because the other was an in-game cutscene. In the fight against N'zoth, we actually succumbed to the madness of N'zoth and lost the fight. Until one of us (always you of course) through the special necklace "The Heart of Azeroth" which was filled with Azerite, alias Azeroth's blood, we channeled the power of Azeroth through the players body into N'zoth and he then explodes like it is show there.
Without spoiling much, there is a lot happening with Sylvanas right now of course and actually more of the story is coming in the next patch, which will be like February or March. So you have things to look forward to. FYI not many people want a redemption arc for her, because .. you know.
There is a big controversy right now with the story, where Blizzard is telling us that everything is in motion since the Warcraft 3. Noone really believes that to be honest. It is probably trying to show how well thoughtout story they have, same as their direct competitor FFXIV. But yeah .. nope.
Hope you enjoy the last part! Note that the story is not finished and Blizzard likes to create cinematics and story beats that raise more questions than answers, so .. don't expect a resolution of anything, none of us do :D

Blizzard's art team really are second to none. I've never seen such expression, such emotion shown in CG characters. Especially non-human ones. The attention to detail is astounding to say the least.
Also just because I haven't seen it amongst the other comments it should be said that Anduin handing Shalamayne to Saurfang is nothing small. That sword belongs exclusively to the king of Stormwind. It's a symbol of the Alliance. My jaw dropped when I first saw that.

29:30 that sword is called Shalamayne, the sword of Varian Wrynn. It can be split into twin blades Shallator and Elemayne, Varian do this a lot. Anduin didn’t cause he’s more of a priest, seeing Saurfang do it is nice.
I must say, Saurfang is not my favorite character but I do respect him. Mak’gora is a ritual duel of Orc culture. The rules have changed over time but your main goal is to defeat your enemy using all your strength and power, any form of power.
40:54 this was also amazing to hear. Thrall was the first Warchief of the Modern Horde, he ruled justly but he was young, very young for the role. He looks often to his advisors, like Saurfang who has seen many battles. Often times, he does doubt his actions especially as he grew older.
Lastly. No. Wrathion the Black Prince is not undead. He’s a black dragon, one of the only ones left alive and uncorrupted.
Nathanos, Champion of the Banshee Queen, is. They just have the same eye glow.

43:25 wow, even though you don’t know you’re extremely right on the money. There are Valkyrie-like creatures in WoW called Val’kyr. Sylvanas made a bargain with 9 of these creatures: she would free them from the will of the dormant Lich King and they will keep her and her people alive. They chose her because they are exactly like her in life and in undeath.
From that 9, only 3 remained.
1 died from saving her soul after she killed herself just after the Fall of the Lich King
1 was killed by the Alliance
3 died after saving her soul after she was murdered (shot on the back)
1 was killed by the Night Elves

With that said, hopefully i won't spoil anything for you, Shadowlands has a vast lore that spans across the whole Warcraft history and most of it, sadly, is explained during gameplay; the cinematics that you've watch so far, are only just a small part of the lore. These are the peak of wow cinematics, and best storytelling.
Before I explained things there are few points you guys got wrong.
    1. Thrall is not Sarufang's brother. In fact Thrall is in his 30s and Sarufang is around 60s.
Thrall is in so many old cinematics, he the one shoot Deathwing, he's the one tried to execute Garrosh, and he the one finally killing Garrosh.
Thrall is the one who reformed the evil horde into honourable faction. But after Garrosh incident he left to hiding.
    2. Sylvannus did not cheat on Makura because it's allowed to use all own powers, Sarufang's plan was to expose her feelings for horde. It's about civilians loyalty to leader.
    1:00 and 1:40 self-explanatory aftermath of war.
    4:00
(this has small backstory and play huge part in Shadowlands.
"Tyrande", leader of Nightelves in Teredessil and former love interest of Illidian, with the rage against Sylvannus she use dark ritual to empower her army called Night warrior.)
There you see "Malfurion", Illidian's twin brother, husband of Tyrande, and Arcdruid of all druids.
He attacked a supply carriage and kills everyone except one to send the warning.
Malfurion duel Sylvannus in war before and after he was beaten, she let Sarufang kill him, but Sarufang let him go.
That's why "Nathanos" said "I know a druid who could",. Nathanos is the lover of Sylvannus and he will do anything for her.
6:45 so as a agreement of Kultiran join alliance, alliance help Kultiran to defeat Zandalari navy and destroy Thier whole naval power.
You can see "High Tinker Mechatorque" leader of Gnomes taking care of all tech as usual.
8:55 but alliance didn't know, the Kultiran forces broke into Kings Palace and assassinate King Rastakhan. Horde and Zandalari army are busy fighting Jaina on shores so King is defenceless in palace.
Since this is a invasion it's totally fair.
And Bhonsambdi's pact passed down to Talanji.
Filled with Rage against Alliance, Talanji decide to Zandalari to join Horde
(So Kultiran join alliance, Zandalari joins horde)
10:58 horde forces accidentally found Jaina's dead brother's corpse who died years ago during first war (remember real reason Jaina's father hate horde). Sylvannus planed on ressurecting him and use him to destroy alliance but "Bain" leader of Tauren and "Zellings" a forsaken doctor, broke him free and escort to Jaina.
(Missing cutscene) - Sylvannus find about the betrayal and instantly killing Zellings and took Bain in prison.
13:47 Sarufang found Thrall's hiding place, and ask to return and lead again.
17:38 Nathanos with Lothemar use empty "Xalatath" as a compass to find something but they met Ashara and her kingdom.
There Ashara uses the "Tidestone of Golganneth, one of 5 pillars of creations" to separate the sea.
Xalatath - Xalatath is a ancient blade we found during legion, and later we found its actually sentient. And later we found its a being trapped in the weapon. And more later some follower of Alleria windrunner tried to release it and got killed. But Xalatath finally escape and use her body as vessel....and then she gone saying she will return. The empty blade is given to Sylvannus.
20:03 and Jaina finally back to senses help Thrall save Bain from Sylvannus. They talk about their past, (in past players actually thought Jaina will marry Thrall, because of Thier closeness)
22:30 Jaina and Lothemar lead battle against Ashara representing alliance and horde.
Ashara is defeated but too late and Nzoth escaped.
24:40 self-explanatory. Sarufang speaks about when he joined the original horde in Draenor. The horde who worked for legion.
This now is Reformed Horde by Thrall many years later.
And Anduin speaks about evil people in alliance like Jaina's father Dailen and Arthas.
    27:00 final Confrontation. Self-explanatory.
Makora is orcish duel, people allows to use full power and any chosen weapon.
Sarufang knew he cannot win, his idea is to show Sylvannus doesn't care about horde to break hordes loyalty.
33:22 "Wrathion" son of Deathwing returns to help fight Nzoth.
In Pandaria, it's Wrathion's plan to release Garrosh and use him to make alternate timeline army.
Which backfired and leads events in Warlords of Draenor. Which ends with sending Guldan to Tomb of Sargeras.
And Varrian died by Guldan's hand in broken shore.
So technically Wrathion is responsible for Varrian's death. That's why Anduin said that line.
There is also Magni bronsbreed. Former king of Dwarfs, cursed to become a crystal. Later cured enough to move.
35:50 Wrathion broke the final seal to Nzoth's chamber using the Xalatath. And that one came out is the final obstacles to Nzoth's room
36:43 Nzoth the last oldgod finally defeated. This cinematic is known to be the most anticlimactic cinematic in wow history.
