Hey everyone. So we added Shattered Legacies to the compilation list we were given not realizing how much was inbetween. Thanks to those providing links and titles for stuff we missed. We for sure want to get to those. Any ideas when Shadowlands is supposed to end? We'd like to wait to wrap it all up but if it's not going to be for several months then we will just watch what we've missed so far.

You have to know this Lich is not the same that killed Sylvannas back during Warcraft 3. The previous Lich King, Arthas killed her but lore wise he was defeated by players during in game patch 3.3.0 ( Icecrown Citadel raid). The actual Lich King is Bolvar Fordragon, former High Marshall/General of the Alliance and Stormwind. He was brutally wounded and poisoned by renegade undead troops during the attack to Angrathar, the Wrathgate, he was purified by Dragon Queen Alexstraza and her fire breath (thats why he have fire sometimes, instead of ice/undead glow), then taken hostage by Arthas, the Lich King and then saved by players when Arthas was defeated, taking the responsability to wear the helmet of domination to control the undead and avoid them going rampage through Azeroth.

You haven’t reacted to many Shadowlands cinematics. I make you herewith a list of the missing ones in chronological order:
    - Beginning of Shadowlands:
    1) The happening right after Sylvanas split the Helm of Domination in half:

    2) Before we even venture into the Realm of Death, Tyrande still cries out for vengeance…:

    - After these, you reacted to some cinematics but these are missing:
    1) After the players ventured to the four zones and after they raided Sire Denathrius‘ Castle Nathria, this cinematic plays:
    ua-cam.com/video/PFJvvE81aKQ/v-deo.html
    2) The conclusion of the discussion between Sylvanas and Anduin in the Cinematic Chains of Domination:

    3) Tyrande Whisperwind has finally found the person she was looking for:

    4) A small cutscene where Sylvanas and Anduin talk about the battle that lies ahead:

    5) The Champions of Azeroth take the battle directly to the Jailer himself where they raid the Sanctum of Domination:

    6) An important exchange between the Winterqueen and her sister. Information to the Burning of Teldrassil:

In the video 3) with Tyrande and Sylvanas, make sure you have Subtitles on. At least around the 1:55-2:00 mark as she speaks in Darnassian (their Elven language) and without added captions there is no translation. It is almost a make/break for the cinematic if you get those lines.
EDIT: There is also an InGame cutscene (which is the way they can make cinematics that includes our characters as the others are pre-rendered) just before they show you Oribos and when the thingy judging all the souls get shut down. Not been able to find a good clip of it but this is as close as I can find. It includes other InGame cutscenes from the Maw as well.

Hi! So, a few things: it looks like there are a few cinematics you missed. In order, between Sylvanas' Choice and Shattered Legacies, the last two you watched, there's Kingsmourne (ua-cam.com/video/cbkQEgf_TAs/v-deo.html), the Battle of Ardenweald (ua-cam.com/video/HmR6zlRwGQQ/v-deo.html), By Our Hand (ua-cam.com/video/VlNR6UX8L5I/v-deo.html), a video that shows the final death of a certain character who I won't spoil (ua-cam.com/video/4t78qa_wEOQ/v-deo.html), and finally the Sanctum of Domination ending (ua-cam.com/video/_WNpDMLQnLs/v-deo.html), which takes place shortly before Shattered Legacies.
Sylvanas wasn't exactly two souls, though it only describes this in the game itself: rather, a part of her was frozen when she died and didn't have any of her experiences in the last ~15 years. After Arthas died, she realized that her only motivation was to kill him. So she jumped off of Icecrown Citadel. She ended up in the Maw, which is basically Warcraft Hell, for reasons we don't fully understand (it'll be explained in a novel that will be released in March). What I think will be described in the novel is that Zovaal, the Jailer, told her that he was imprisoned in the Maw unjustly (he was lying), and said that the afterlife was unjust. Some val'kyr, basically knockoff versions of the Kyrian who you saw in Bastion, resurrected her and she decided to give the Jailer as much Anima (the stuff that makes up souls) as possible. Basically, she killed people to empower him to break out and rewrite the afterlife to make it more just. Of course, he didn't actually want to do that, as you'll see in the Sanctum of Domination ending.
Also, the orc at the beginning of Afterlives: Revendreth, was Garrosh, who you saw in Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor.
While there are definitely issues with the storytelling of Shadowlands, I, personally, think it's better than a lot of other people seem to think.

A small detail with the dragon's return - her eyes are back to emerald fire, which hadn't been the case since the Aspects lost a great deal of their power during the final events of Cataclysm. (And why in the cinematic where Ysera dies during Legion, her eyes are 'regular' with pupils etc.)
It's kind of showing that not only did the Winter Queen save her, but also fully restored her strength. There's a great mirrored shot too, with the 'starry' image that emerges from the pod being near identical to the moment Ysera's soul becomes a constellation in the Legion cinematic.

  • @epic-o2215
    @epic-o2215 2 роки тому +3

Also just to give you more clarity regarding a few things.
Ardenweald: This afterlife is charged with the rebirth and renewal of the cycle of life/death. Wild gods (such as the bear you saw, his name was Ursoc) end up here often to basically recharge and be reborn later. Ysera, the green dragon you guys seem to remember from legion cinematics, was one of the last souls to make it before the disaster that made souls start funneling into the Maw. TBH it was my favorite at the time. I just had a lot more context than you guys, I know it doesn't hit the same when you don't get what is even happening, whereas the rest were a little more straightforward.
Sylvanas: It's important to clarify that the writers have tried to be as clear as possible that Sylvanas was at no point lost or possessed by her banshee form. What is being told here is what happens to a soul when you remove a piece of it, like morality, and let it roam in torment of the last moments they lived. You guys missed several cutscenes but one of the last ones is of her being rejoined with her missing piece. What happened to Sylvanas is more akin to being a good person who then goes on to suffer from a tumor that impedes their inhibitions, and they go out and do increasingly impulsive things and eventually murder people, not understanding why it is evil. What happens when you find out the cause and the tumor is removed? Outwardly you have to deal with justice, what does justice do with a being that did horrible stuff but then finds they weren't 100% themselves? But they were still mostly themselves so you can't really say there was a good/bad sylvanas. Inwardly, what happens to someone who suddenly has to deal with the shock of realizing they did a ton of horrible shit that seemed ok at the time she did it, in sylvanas' case, she tries to dissociate, but that didn't work because Uther points it out. Uther is a slightly worse version of what happened to Sylvanas, so they used him to illustrate the type of damage a mourneblade does. He didnt stop being himself, there are not 2 Uthers, he just lost his morality compass for a while and was stuck in deep anger and the need for vengeance (but calling in justice) Uther (with 100% of his soul) would never have tossed anyone into the Maw or dealt in despair for this long, EVER.
That's where a lot of the controversy lies. Some people are assuming blizzard is getting ready to redeem, but I think most people that actually follow the story know that is not the case, and this cinematic very vocally lets us know that she is UNFORGIVABLE and that isn't going to change. That being said, the cutscene does have some weaknesses that would lead some people to assume things like "she is not herself and will be redeemed" just as you did. For example, having Sylvanas talking to herself is probably not the best way to convey they are the same person...but still, it is her shattered mind, and she doesn't want to admit it is all her in the beginning. But by the end we see just 1 Sylvanas, that is standing before Teldrassil and she arrives at the conclusion she is to be held responsible for this and all other crimes committed as the Banshee queen. The best Sylvanas supporters can hope for, is that she will exit the story alive.

Im sure many people have already spoken to him, but the big bear, Ursoc. is literally one of the ancient gods of the forest. Theres a few, one for the restoration/healing druids (a big tree type thing), and a few for Feral Druids, "Ashmane", a big cat. And ursoc the bear spirit. He fought since before world of warcraft and is an actual legend in the druidic circles. His death back in the day during the War of the ancients was pretty crazy but his presnece and wisdom and influence has popped up a few places. He was Twisted by basically "evil druid" magic in the emerald nightmare and turned into a raid boss. so WE as the players kill him. But his soul going back to feed the spirit groves in ardenweald was insanely sad. As a feral druid for years i almost cried. Big daddy bear is gone. RIP. this lich king is not the first one, the first one was arthas as you might remember. this is bolvar fordragon, in wrath of the lich king we the players killed arthas and bolvar took his place to keep the scourge(the skeleton army) at bay as they are under lich king's command and without a lich king the scourge would be going on a rampage across azeroth so there must be a lich king. (they eventually did go on a rampage after the helm was broken, but still). and bolvar doesnt use frostmourne, which was arthas' sword and it was a very powerful weapon as it consumed every soul and grew stronger with each. besides, bolvar didnt want to use lich king's power, these are the reasons why he is really weak compared to arthas. but still, lich king was an important and powerful character for a very long time and he had a special place in many players so this cinematic was another example of lazy writing on blizzards part and yet another attempt by them to make sylvanas seem like a god by giving her plot armor lol.

This is why I dislike her. -_- crap writing and ruined the whole reason to have the lich king at all.
The lich king was the only other reason to keep an balance. Arthas in the other hand was strong had he actually had the ability to stay and maintain his willpower to control the lich kings power he would've most definitely been strong due to the countless lives he's taken and also maintaining control.

Imagine someone shows you the photo of you 10 years in the future and your future self joined the dark side. Some might argue that Sylvanas wasn't herself or something but that wasn't the case. She was manipulated but always in control of her actions. We will have to wait for the conclusion of the story as the last patch of the Shadowlands will come in 2022. Players are working with all 4 covenants shown and trying to help them get through the anima draught. The man wearing the Lich Kings crown that she fights is named Bulvar Fordragon. And breaking the helm of Domination shattered the wall between the living world and the shadowlands. The launch trailer sparked a lot of controversy because of how easily she defeated him, Being under control of the jailer or not Sylvanas shouldnt have been able to win over him that easily.
I am glad you guys included the Afterlives Animatics in this video, My favorite is the Ardenweald one, Because its sad what happened to Ursoc, and at the beginning of the video he is fighting us, the player. Remember what I said about there existing Six Cosmic Forces in the WoW universe that is the source of any and all magics?
We learn in Shadowlands that there is appearently a war going on between them, which have lasted for who knows how long. That is what Sire Denathrius means when we say that only Death will emerge from this.

    • @miriamweller812
      @miriamweller812 2 роки тому

That's not that new with Shadowlands, that the coscic forces can't really stand each other and that they more or less obviously try to take control (what would not be good no matter who wins for mortals at least) is a thing since way over a decade.
The whole Burning Legion thing for example is nothing else but part of this cosmic war.
A god of ORDER seeing the corruption brought by the power of the VOID and then reaching for ORDERS opposite "FEL" to wager a war against all life (what of courser also includes the powers of LIGHT and LIFE in a way, though he does not attack their realms directly) following the mad logic, when life is dead, it can't be corrupted anymore.
That DEATH had its hand in this fall of the ORDER god makes even a lot of sense since it's the only one of the six forces that directly profited from it, especially of course the Jailer - while the other eternals seem to be okay with the whole life-death-recycle machine (but in the end, at least those are mainly made to just maintain it, while the Jailer clearly stopped to like his position at some point...).

Btw, i'm glad that you're finally able to understand the WHY (in a way) Sylvanas has done what she's done, at least. There is a lot more that's missing from all this, back from Warcraft 3 but the gist of it has indeed been portrayed.
There is one thing that should probably be made clear. Sylvanas isn't corrupted by the Lich King, not anymore at least. Not ever since she broke free from the Scourge and Arthas, when and where eventually she brought together the Forsaken (other undead like her) into the ruins of Lordaeron.
"The ends justify the means" is usually a very gray area for me, personally. Is it inexcusable? Probably but if all that pain and suffering, the atrocities that she's committed thus far eventually really free her and everyone else, i would personally think it to be worth it. One of the few things worse than death, or even undeath like her, is not being in control of your own life for a single waking moment.
As i mentioned in a reply on a previous video, some of her choices make no sense anymore, with the burning of Teldrassil and all. The writers are... kinda high at times it seems. But i think that overall, personally, Sylvanas's story is a beautiful arc of realization.. betrayal.. suffering.. redemption and even heroics at times.
Hell, even that 'war with yourself' that we see of her, reliving her atrocities while her old self calls herself a murderer and a monster are just.. hnnnngg..
Her and Illidan (could probably throw Jaina in there too) are probably *the* best characters of the entire franchise, and i will fight anyone for that statement 😂
EDIT: I haven't played through Shadowlands yet, so i'm spoiling myself heavily but i wanted to carry on this journey with you two. I just hope that by the end of it (when is it truly ended with Wow but mostly the whole Sylvanas evil/redemption arc), she comes back into the light in your eyes.

@@NanoLT Well, yes and no. They're trying to make us have a shred of sympathy for her, and at the same time take away all supposed agency Sylvanas ever had since Warcraft 3. So either Sylvanas had NO agency since Warcraft 3 and every good and bad thing she ever did since her 'death' was the Jailor's bidding, or it was her choices. Neither answer is even fully coherent, for if she was in his control - why fire an arrow at his face in the end? And if she wasn't under his sway this entire time, why does she have a shred of regret all of a sudden? Blizzard writers are retarded.

You missed half of the story, that's why you were surprised to see Anduin on the Maw. He was taken there with Jaina, Thrall and Baine (3 cinematics there). Also Tyrande fight cinematic, Nathanos fight, Jailor taking the last KEY cinematic, Anduin attack on Bastion, the covenants meeting are missing. Also I believe Primus(runecarver) has 2-3 cinematics.

You missed quite a few cinematics that take place before the last one you have watched in this video.
Also, if you want to you could watch the in game cutscenes which are less animate than the cinematics but explain for example how Anduin got captured by the Jailor, in the video "Anduin's Sacrifice Against Sylvanas & Jailer (2020) - All Cutscenes ".
A list of all of the cinematics you have missed (as far as I know):
    1. "Shadowlands: Dark Abduction" -> takes place at the very beginning of the expansion
    2. the video " Shadowlands: Chains of Domination - “Kingsmourne” " -> takes place after the second to last one in this video where Sylvanas makes her choice with Anduin3.
    3. "For Teldrassil" (for this I recommend watching the video "Nathanos vs Tyrande Cinematic - Shadowlands Pre Patch")
    4. the video "Tyrande invokes Elune Cinematic 9.1 Chain of Domination Shadowlands"
    5. the video "Tyrande vs Sylvanas Cinematic Patch 9.1 - Chains of Domination"
    6. I recommend the video "Fate of Sylvanas, Sanctum of Domination Final Cinematic & Cutscenes│Chains of Domination Patch 9.1" -> that takes place before the last cinematic you watched in this video, with Sylvanas unconscious
    (7. the "Chains of Domination - Launch Trailer" -> a trailer for the expansion overall)
    (8. maybe the video "Garrosh Hellscream Raid Cutscene │ Chains of Domination Patch 9.1")

The way I think of it, Sylvanas wasn't per se a vessel for two souls that were arguin. She wasn't really possessed or anything. It's mentioned that her "Soul was shattered from the moment of her death."
Essentially, one fragment of her soul has experienced every single event after her death and has made decisions based on that. The other part has experienced none of that, and only came back now, many years after her death.
Her "dead" soul is trying to justify itself to the living one, because the living one cannot understand what she's been through. So it's essentially if you and your past self could meet, andwhere you've gone is a completely different place than you'd planned, and so the two of you would be completely unable to understand each other's point of view. So the Dead soul IS her, but it is burdened by atrocities the living one cannot possibly imagine.

    short explanation of the afterlives:
Bastion is for people who are burdened by their past, here they are supposed to let go of all those burdens, meaning they forget their past, in time they will be trained to guide the souls of the dead
Maldraxxus is for people with a strong martial prowess be it in actual hand to hand combat or spells or tactics (meaning a warrior or rather paladin like uther could go to maldraxxus or bastion, but in uthers case bastion was picked because he was clearly suffering from his memories) the maldraxi are the main army of the shadowlands and serve as their protectors
ardenweald is for souls atuned with nature, it is not a final resting place as much as its a place of rebirth, most of azeroths wild gods go here after being killed, they spend time in ardenweald getting ready to be reborn and return to their life in the physical form
revendreth is a place of penance, not like the biblical hell but more like purgatory, for people who have sinned but are not irredeemable per se, they will repent for their sins in time and once they are free from their sin they may move on to another afterlife or stay there to help other people repent for their sin, or if they cannot be redeemed they move on to the maw
the maw is more like hell, a place to hold those souls who will never be redeemed, not a place where they continue their journey but where there road ends, no escape, no moving on

(yall saw her death during the legion journey montage) we killed them both during the legion expansion. Ursoc is the wild god which granted the druids the ability to shapeshift into a bear, so he was highly revered.

A bit of character background (in appearing order) & missed content:
Bolvar Fordragon (3rd Lich king): Former Paladin and High Lord of the Alliance (till WotlK). Following the Events of the Wrath Gate, he was infested by the plague but was "healed" by the flames of Alextrasza, The Dragon-Aspect of the Life (and Sister of Ysera, the green dragon-aspect) but having his body charred. Then it was tortured by Arthas (2nd Lich King) and took the place of The Lich King after the former demise as the Jailer of the Damned. He was Inactive/Frozen till the Events of Legion, where he led the Champion (if playing as LK) in his path to become the Deathlord and raise the four new horsemen (Nazgrim, Thoras, Whitemane and Darion [Technically it should have been Tirion Vadin, but the light prevented it]). On BfA he raised a new generation of Death Knight. Now on Shadowlands takes the role of Leader of the Incursion into the Shadowlands.
Uther (The Lightbringer): Former Paladin, One of the First Five Paladins of the Silver Hand and Tutor/Teacher of Arthas. He fell during the events of W3. Following the events of the Cinematic, He became a Forsworn, a renegade kirian who wants to keeps his memories. Following the events of the Kirian Campaign, he is defeated and captured. Later you recover his shattered soul fragment and help him in becoming a whole soul again.
Devos: Former Paragon of Loyalty then becoming the Paragon of Doubt after her bretrayal. She believes that they can live with their past memories. She was the de-facto leader of the Forsworn and was killed during the Kirian Campaign.
Kyrestia the Firstborn (The archon): Leader of the Kyrian, one of the Eternal Ones (like Winter Queen, Sire Denathrius,...) and the first winged Kyrian. Her belief is that new Kyrians need to purge their past memories in order to ascend so that they can do their task in a true neutral and objective way. She is the holder of one of the Sigils.
Draka: Mate of Durotan, Mother of Thrall and Baroness of Maldraxxus. She was killed by the Shadow Council. During the events of Shadowlands, She is promoted to Margrave (Leader) of the Chosen.
Ursoc: A Demigod and Bear God. He died during the War of the Ancients and later was resurrected and corrupted during the events of WotlK when he was again killed. After his demise, his soul resided in The Emerald Dream. During the events of Legion, his Soul was corrupted and defeated in the Emerald Nightmare Raid. Following this his soul traveled to the Ardenweald in the Shadowlands where he is transformed into a Wildseed and ultimately being sacrificed in order to retrieve Anima.
Ara'lon: A sylvar and ex-grove keeper. He joined the Wild Hunt following the cinematic.
Winter Queen: Leader of the Night Fae, an Eternal One, sister of Elune and Ruler of Ardenweld. Following the lack of Anima she asked her sister for help but felt betrayed as Elune did not reply. Following this she takes the resolve to sacrifice a few to save others. She is the holder of one of the Sigils.
Denathrius: Former Sire of Revendeth and former leader of the Venthyr. He made a pact with the Jailer as he want to reign over all the Shadowlands. Ultimately he is defeated during the Castle Nathria Raid and captured but then is rescued by the Nathrezim. He is the holder of one of the Sigils. He is the weilder of Remornia, A sentient blade who only cares about causing havoc and carnage.
Zovaal (The Jailer): Main Antagonist of Shadowlands, an Eternal One and Ruler of Torghast and the Maw. Former Arbiter before being banished by the other Eternal Ones. He wants the Sigils in order to open a path to "A Zereth" latter revealed to be Zereth Moris, the last patch zone and realm of the First Ones in order to rewrite the cosmic balance.
The Arbiter: An Eternal One, Leader of Oribos, cornerstone of all the Shadowlands constructed using Zovaal Sigil and Anima. She pass judgement on all the souls and redirects to a suitable afterlife. Before the events of Shadowlands she became Dormant and is ultimately Zovaal ends absorbing her, vanishing her from existance.
Prince Renathal: A Venthyr, Leader of the rebellion against Sire Denathrius and Current leader of Revendeth. He is the wielder of Vorpalia, another sentient blade but that cares about its master.

Shadowlands has a lot of short in-game cinematics which make it more understandable. You've probably got the gist of it here, but there are quite a few gaps.
How Anduin was initially captured, escaped, captured again and eventually turned. The fights between Tyrande and Nathanos, Tyrande vs Sylvanas. How Sire Denathrius was beaten, then there's the whole, who is the Jailer, why is he doing it. The story around the Runecarver/Primus who is more prominent in the latest patch.
There's a lot to piece together through shorts, they could have probably benefited from longer cinematics explaining stuff in more detail.

Everytime nice to see you two reacting. As you already mentioned there are quite alot cinematics that would have given more informations and don't let it look so disconnected. I am not sure if everyone is covered through other comments but i think most are.
From more than one point of view breaking the cycle is a thing that comes back regulary in WoW. Every time Horde and Alliance are fighting against each other there is at the end a try to break this cycle of hatred (even mentioned in the BFA starttrailer by sylvanas). Every time this failed. And not only that, in between this Cycle of hatred come powerful beeings sending there minions (the old Horde, the burning Legion, the old gods) and every time azeroth is bathed in war without a chance to avoid it. Sylvanas is one of the Characters that has seen proably more wars that most other.
But there is one more point that is pointed out by some lore content maker. Every undead is automatically sentenced to end in the maw without a chance of redemption, totally regardles of what he did. (There are one Example where this doesn't happend, but overall every undead must go to the maw. And for beeing killed and forced to do things that they would never have wanted to do, to be sentenced to a eternity of suffering doen't sound very fair.)
i personally think that the storywriting has gone down the river after legion but the cinematics are still some of the best the gaming industrie has.

    A couple FYI's.
The bear you see in the Ardenweald video is called Ursoc, you as a player actually fight and defeat him while he is corrupted in the Lich King expansion.
The orc you see in the Revendreth video being used to farm anima is none other than the soul of Garrosh Hellscream...ex-warchief of the Horde from the Pandaria expansion.
The female orc Drakka you saw in the Maldraxxus video is the wife of Durotan of the Frostwolf Clan and also the mother of Thrall, who was the old Warchief of the Horde.
In the Bastion video the one who was injured by the Lich King was Uther the Lightbringer one of the five famous paladins from the Order of The Silverhand along with Turalyon, Saidan Dathrohan, Tirion Fordring, and Gavinrad the Dire. He was one who was with Arthas before he destroyed Stratholme and refused to help him do so to which Arthas ordered the Order of the Silverhand to be dissolved.

Shadowlands would be normally ending, with the next expansion having been debuted in October but alas Covid. No idea when its gonna end, hopefully soon though. One thing I love about the cinematic team is they like reusing classic scenes. Example in WoD cinematic there is a scene where Grom is about to get blown away from the blast but his son saves him. In WC3 he died in that explosion. In BFA when Anduin and Jaina walk in to confront Sylvanas, its he same setting and camera angle as when Arthas walked in to kill his dad in WC3. Here in this one, when Sylvanas aims the rune sword at Anduin, its the same exact pose as Arthas did in the WotLK trailer.

As several have mentioned there are a few MAJOR cutscenes that are missing from this playlist you got, specifically the ones concerning Anduin, and how Sylvanas got the missing piece of her soul back (hence the conflict within herself in that last cutscene)
As they showed in the Bastion afterlives they sort of retconned (imo this wasn't a bad one honestly) that getting killed by Arthas stole a fragment of their soul, hence why Uther and Sylvanas have that blue glowy scar. Essentially when they got killed by Arthas there were certain aspects of their soul were stolen - i believe in uther's case it was his compassion and kindness which left the remaining part of his soul that went into Bastion filled with misguided sense of justice/vengeance. In the game (before shadowlands) players were able to talk to (what we now know to be a fragment) of Uther's soul and talk about how he essentially forgave Arthas and regrets he wasnt able to save him etc. As far as i am aware in shadowlands uther's two soul fragments eventually meet/remerge and in the last scene we see him complete as the paladin he once was.
In Sylvanas' case it is hard to say what was stolen but you can argue that it was similar, her kindness, sense of loyalty/morality to her people etc. the "good" aspects were stolen from her when she was killed by Arthas and she was twisted into a rage filled banshee.
Unfortunately blizzard kind of messed up with the world building with Shadowlands and kind of rushed making the Jailor this super mastermind behind way too many events (they basically are trying to say he had a plot in motion to escape the Maw(hell) for hundreds of thousands of years and has just been waiting/watching this master plan unfold), which honestly is a bad thing its just that...they didn't build up to it or really expand on how any of it makes sense which i believe has upset a lot of the fan base.
so much so that as a sort of meme- a lot of the fans want the Jailor to win the final battle haha

The angry bear at the start was Ursoc, we as players had to kill him in the Emerald Nightmare raid which was the first raid of the Legion Expansion because he became corrupted by something in the emerald dream. one of the reasons why people dont like this part of story is because sylvanas was a character for almost 20 years , and now out of nowhere we find out that she was mindcontrolled all this time by some random guy from the afterlife that we didnt even know about

    • @otter13

I wouldnt say mindcontrolled, more like deceived into thinking they had the same goal and were also partners.
Also Sylvanas didnt meet The Jailer until the end of WotLK when she threw herself off of Icecrown after we defeated Arthus. With Arthus dead she felt she had no purpose anymore. That's when she allies with the Jailer, but I dont think the plan really gets put into motion until she becomes Warchief. It was more like The Jailer sent her back and told her to act natural until u get the signal, and that signal was Voljin being tricked into naming her Warchief.

  • @bellidrael7457
    @bellidrael7457 2 роки тому

I think you have misunderstood the point of Sylvanas a bit. The final bit you watched was to confirm that it wasn't just 'a corrupted version of her' doing those things. Uther made her acknowledge that it was in fact, her who did those things. The 'living' version of Sylvanas we see is the good side of her, but that dark side, the side that became 'The Banshee Queen', was always a part of her. That twisted, darker side, that we all have deep down. It was still a part of her that made those decisions, and she can't escape that. She can't pretend it was 'someone else' who made those choices. Because ultimately, it was her who did it all, and that was the only way she could wake up, was by accepting that. She was trapped, unable to wake up, because her soul (Which was once split in half, and is now whole again) were stuck apart, unwilling to accept the other half.
Her 'good half' of her soul refused to acknowledge that her 'evil half' was actually a part of her. The reason she wakes up in the end, is because she finally accepts that no matter the things she did as 'The Banshee Queen', it was still her. She accepts there is no redemption for it, there is no forgiveness, and she can never atone for what she did. All she can do, is accept what she has done, try to make things right, and accept the consequences for what she has done.

To expand on my long comment: Blizzards old writers one sat a dwarf on the throne of ironforge that died in warcraft 2. And fans pointed that out hilariously (search Red Shirt Guy Blizzcon) and they owned it, apologised and gave the red shiort guy his own npc "fact checker"
And honestly, sitting a corpse on the throne is a rather big mistake. But ultimately that was one character that got f*ed up. Now they f* up entire realms of existance and forget about decades of lore.
I mean sure the twisting nether and the emerald dream were already a big story thing 1 expansion ago, like 4 years. No one can be exected to take something like that into account, it has only been a thing for 20 years. pfff
And they added character f* up too - the druid in ardenweald? he was not corrupted involuntarely, that dude joined the forces of corruption and evil knowingly, willingly, with desire and purpose. Dude just dying wont somehow cleanse you when your very being craved that power.
So Orcs are in the shadowlands of azeroth when their souls belong to the shadowlands of Draenor...ok. Why arent there all the many many maaaaaaaaany creatures from all over the universe in the shadowlands? Oh because they belong to different worlds. YEAH SO DO THE ORCS FOR GODS SAKE. Sorry...im just mad at Blizzard. Its so enfuriating when people are entrusted carrying the torch of something so big and use it to burn everything down instead. They have demons in the shadowlands for cool shots but kinda forget that demons dont go to any shadowland at all but to the twisting nether.
Just like the emerald dream...they kinda forgot that Ysera is its guardian but the emerald dream predates the dragons by billions of years, the emerald dream was created alongside azeroth and exists completly independant of ysera who was but one of its inhabitants. Now apparently the emerald dream is all yseras doing? i cant facepalm hard enough

Hello it's me again! I wont reiterate what everyone else has been mentioning about missed cinematics and such. I will comment on it when that comes around, and instead explain what we see as we see it here. As I mentioned before, I have not actually -played- Shadowlands myself, but I've done a bit of research (aka googling/wowwiki browsing) and I have second-hand experience from youtubers and friends who still play the game to draw upon as well. With that said, I might be wrong on multiple things here, so I will try to be specific when I am uncertain of various opinions and thoughts here.
Starting from the top, the Shadowlands Launch Cinematic. Sylvanas Windrunner vs Bolvar Fordragon. Quite the epic battle, and what a twist at the end. Just about NOBODY predicted that she would destroy the Helm of Domination, instead suspecting she would use it in some fashion to open a gateway to the Shadowlands (The fact we were going to that realm was datamined hours before the cinematic was shown.) Anyway, several interesting things to point out here. Firstly, Bolvar Fordragon is every bit Arthas Menethil's successor as the Lich King, wielding all the same powers as Arthas, minus the runeblade Frostmourne. That weapon was FAR too dangerous to remake after it broke because of its ability to steal souls. The weapon in combination with the Helm of Dominion is what makes the Lich King so powerful. The Helm of Dominion is an artifact that allows total command of a person's soul and thus mind and body by extension. With the Runeblade stealing the souls away, that makes it oh so easy to control the remaining slivers. Fun fact: The Helm of Dominion is, to this day, one of VERY FEW relics in World of Warcraft that uses the word "psionic" as part of its description, along with telepathy. This hints that ESP (Extra-Sensory Powers) is an incredibly rare power, if not truly unique, in comparison to the abundant powers magic allows for.
Sorry for that tangent. Anyway Bolvar is arguably as powerful as Arthas ever was, given that the Helm of Dominion grows in power with every soul it controls and this power is not lost when the wielder dies, instead it is transferred to the next wearer. Truly a Kings crown, if that king sees himself as the ultimate authority at least. In knowing this, we can also sort of pity everything happening in the good old Wrath of the Lich King cinematic from way back in the second expansion, as Arthas' father Terenas is the one monologuing during that cinematic and everything he says is usurped by Arthas' actions. "Exercise restraint when using your great power"/Arthas revives an ancient Great Dragon, "Stirring the hearts of your people"/Arthas' people are all undead doing everything Arthas bids without question, thus they have no "heart" to speak of.
With all the power Bolvar possesses, fighting Sylvanas should not have been a problem at all, but we've already seen that Sylvanas is ridiculously strong now. Remember in Legion when she was defeated by our werewolf chad Genn Greymane? After that, Sylvanas continued growing stronger and stronger with this wispy purple smoke magic of hers, something she definitely did not possess during Legion or she would not have lost either the fight against the demon hordes OR Genn. Where did all this power come from, power enough to defeat the successor of Arthas, one of the most powerful villains of Azeroth's history? That makes this fight all the more enthralling. Plus, she leaves Bolvar alive, despite all her crimes of murdering thousands of people so far, why? There's so many questions and not a whole lot of answers given in this cinematic and that's a great way to set up a new story arc to a place we've never even considered going to before. And go there we shall because Sylvanas must die. Right?
Alright, moving on to the story animatics. Ever since their introduction in Warlords of Draenor, these animatics have been AMAZING for storytelling purposes, setting up the key questions of what will happen as we begin our journey. The Four Zones of the Shadowlands are not the only places that exist there, but they are the primaries and where the expansion focuses its attention. Ion Hazzikostas, Game Director of World of Warcraft, specified in one of his many appearances that the Shadowlands are effectively infinite, with infinite realms that the souls of the dead get sent to. We however only get introduced to 6 in the expansions initial phase.
First of the four is Bastion. While it may on the surface look like heaven, with its angels and bright shining realms and fields and all that, its everything but. Each realm in the Shadowlands has a purpose, Bastions purpose is to find and ferry the souls of the dead to the Arbiter who resides in Oribos, and then from there the Arbiter judges the souls and sends them to the realms of the Shadowlands. The man brought here, Uther the Lightbringer, was the teacher of Arthas and was struck down when Arthas needed the urn of his dead father to hold the remains of the necromancer Kel'Thuzad, so that he would not decay before they could ressurect him. Uther opposed Arthas that day and fell to the undead horde.
Second, Maldraxxus. If the afterlife has a military force, this is it. Maldraxxus is a land of eternal battle. The Orc woman who this story follows is Draka, she is the mother of Thrall, though Thrall never knew his mother in life, nor did she know her son. She died protecting him, and he grew up a slave to humans, but were educated by those same humans in an attempt to "civilize" the Orcs. It backfired and he became leader of The Horde during the 3rd War and has been a fairly good influence on the Horde since then, whenever he appears. He's also been the cause of some of the worst problems within the Horde though, so he is not flawless. Anyway, Draka is.. or was, a warrior in life, but in death it seems she's become a rogue. These are two of the 12 playable classes in the game, and two of the most melee combat oriented ones, but incredibly different in execution and style.
Third. Ardenweald. This realm is far more connected to Azeroth than the others, because the bear creature we see dying is actually a raid boss in World of Warcraft: Legion, and one of the ancient Wild Gods of Azeroth. The Wild Gods are ancient immortal creatures who upon death return to their ancient covenant to be ressurected back to life after their anima (soul essence) is restored to them by the stewards of Ardenweald. In return, they ensure the sanctity of nature and the wild lands of Azeroth and its connected dream world, The Emerald Dream. Wild Gods are not unique to Azeroth, as they can appear on many worlds, typically worlds rich in "spirit magic". Draenor and Argus are two other such worlds, unfortunately both of them now dead. Anyway, the Bear, known as Ursoc, is one half of twin bear brothers who fought the Legion 10,000 years ago. During the Legion's third coming during the Legion expansion pack of World of Warcraft, he was ressurected and driven mad by the Nightmare corruption, a secondary plague that happened alongside the Legion's advance. This was a move by the Old God N'zoth and the first time Queen Azshara herself made a move in Azeroth. Always before had she acted through servants, but she made an appearance in Legion, which was a hint at her greater role in the next expansion, Battle for Azeroth. Ursoc had to be slain by us, the players due to this corruption, but we all know that the Wild Gods are immortal demigods who return after death, so it wasn't massively impactful. And then that cinematic happens. For the first time, one of the Wild Gods is truly dead.
Fourth. Revendreth. Bastion is the souls ferrymen, Maldraxxus is the army of the Shadowlands, Ardenweald is the covenant with life, allowing for the rebirth of fundamental forces of magic and nature, Revendreth is... redemption. Like Dante's Inferno, Revendreth is where souls go to attone for the sins they committed in life. If anything, Arthas should've gone here but at least Garrosh Hellscream ended up here, where he rightfully deserves to be for his crimes against Azeroth. Arthas and Sylvanas both deserve this place as well, for the fifth option is The Maw, which is the place where only The Damned should go. Souls so beyond redemption, so tainted by evil that there is no hope for them and only eternal suffering is good enough. So Revendreth is the final hope for those who have committed the most heinous of crimes.
Obviously, as we've seen now the machinery of the Shadowlands is broken. There's a "drought", by this they mean they get no more new Anima. Anima is the essence of a soul. A living person has infinite anima, but once a soul crosses over, what anima they have is all they can supply to the Shadowlands and EVERYTHING in the Shadowlands need Anima to survive. However, every single soul that die in the multiverse is being fed into The Maw and The Arbiter is catatonic, unconscious and unresponsive. The flow of souls are funneled directly into where only The Damned should go, and where no soul should be able to escape from. This obviously is part of The Jailor and Sylvanas' battleplan. As people have mentioned, you're missing a fair few cinematics and cutscenes to react to, so I'll take my leave now and see you in the next reaction video where I'll help sort the discordant pieces of what you've seen now and what you'll see then.
Once again, thank you for your reactions, it's great to see such an adorable couple being so truly enraptured by the story that shaped my young life.

Great video :D You missed several cinematics in what happens between the one at 42:00 and the last one.

Sylvanas the Ranger General wasn't buried within the Banshee Queen. Her soul was fractured when she was killed by Arthas. Think of that portion of her soul as a snapshot of who she was. Trapped within Frostmourne. The jailer returned her soul so she possibly would break herself, realizing what she had done since her death. One bit you missed seeing was just after the heroes killed Arthas. Her vengeance was stolen from her. She felt there was no reason to go on. She threw herself off the pinnacle of Ice Crown Citadel and woke up in darkness. I assume it was in the maw. The afterlife was to be endless torture for her. An unjust judgement in her opinion. A deal of some sort was made then and she was brought back. This may have been what set her as the Jailor's pawn. I thought Sylvanas too cunning to join forces with the very creator of the Helm of Damnation and Frostmourne. Basically the Jailor was responsible for the Lich King, the Scourge, the fall of her homeland and its people, and her murder and unlife. Her time in the afterlife read to me as a desperate attempt to undo her suicide and fear of the torture she knew was her ending. Sylvanas is among the best characters and has been sorely abused in the story and by the writers in the last few expansions. I started as Horde and also played later as Alliance.
