4:55 i love this moment. the smile on Varok face and the outburst of Sylvanas is the moment when Varok knows he won the purpose of the duel, and Sylvanas realizing that she lost when she fell into his trap. As a true war veteran, Varok knew allready he couldn't win in combat agaisnt her. so he defeated her with words. The purpose of the Mak'Gora wasnt to kill Sylvanas, it was to free the Horde from her grasp.

Sylvanas didn't start by cheating because until she said "The horde is nothing"... she still had everyone backing her.
People seem to forget aswell that there are generally no rules in a mak'gora, as such magic is very much allowed. Thrall, Shagara and Ashra have all used magic.

@@Nexuzlord117 Thrall used magic against Garrosh and Doomhammer became astranged to him, a Mak'gora is sacred, its skill vs skill, weapon allowed if both agree but beside that, nothing else, its an orcish tradition, shaman can use magic so long as the killing blow doesnt come from it, gul'dan and sylvanas both used their magic to finish their foes in a Mak'gora..thats the cheating and show your lack of knowledge in lore

There were several references to quotes of past cinematics:
-Sylvanas going "old soldier" was 2 fold, the cinematic named old soldier, and it was a reference to when gen took her chance at immortality from the valkyr she called him "old wolf" with the same manner of voice.
-"you cannot kill hope" was what the night elf said to sylvanas before she burned teldrassil.
-"let it be finished" as was said at the wrathgate.
-"we don't get to hide" from the reunion with thrall cinematic.
Well that's the point. Blizzard wants to make it clear that theyre doing wrath and garrosh combined in a woman this time because it's 2019

There are lots of similarity's to the wrath gate. The shot of sylvanas's exit out of the gates of org is the exact same shot they used for Arthas at wrathgate, of course let it be finished is dranosh saurfangs last words.

Saurfang got exactly what he deserved, what he wanted, and what he earned. An honorable, warrior's death that exposed Sylvanas and saved both sides from thousands of deaths. Saurfang never wanted to grow old. This though, this he wanted.

That's the personality Blizzard has given her for quite some time now. And that was the point of Saurfang's rant while slicing at her, that despite her efforts and cockiness, she keeps failing.
You can even see her losing her smugness while he was telling her so, and the slice across her face lost her composure completely.
Yeah, she is extremely unstable wacko... That's why she commited suicide in WotLK when she found out Arthas was killed by someone else. (One of her Valkyrs sacrificed herself to ressurect her.) She is emotionally a child.

There is absolutely no reason that all cut scenes can't be this beautiful. This was scary how good this looked. It was actually like a movie.
Stuff this detailed takes a RIDICULOUS amount of work to make. A full movie of this would be like triple the time and budget of even the biggest animated films. I would love to see way more cutscenes in wow, but sadly making them all in this style would be an almost impossible feat. More like this, sure. But there's no way they can all be this quality.

Balled my eyes out every time I have seen this. Saurfang is a hero. A legend. One the horde very much needed. And one I would have followed to hell and back. Saurfang is the Horde.
Sylvanas is nothing but a blight upon the world and upon the Horde. I hope she gets everything that is coming to her and then some. She is no better then the Burning Legion or the Lich King.
She didn't use her magic in the beginning because she was absolutely certain of her victory. But Saurfang was about something else. He told Anduin during their meeting in the dungeon of Stormwind. He said "What I want is my horde back!" He knew that he would not be able to win by force of arms, but he could use her ego to achieve his real goal. It worked. In her anger, Sylvanas revealed how she really thought about the horde. When she realized that the old orc warrior had outwitted her, she struck back in the only way she had left. With the death of Varok Saurfang.
also she wanted to win it honorably, to follow the tradition as the horde demands... this didnt matter anymore once she ditched the horde though, so she just ended it swiftly before leaving.

Thrall brought back to save the Horde...again. And then he will leave... again. Bain elevated to Warchief, leads the "New Horde" into an everlasting peace with the Alliance, thus breaking the cycle.
Sylvanis is end game boss, but at the end just before she dies the Lich King shows up to "reclaim his property".

@@oliverjames6405 I was thinking the same thing.. if they make horde/alli one side, and a new faction.. ok.. or.. they just let you choose if you want to play one faction or the other with any race.. so instead of race vs race, it would be ideology vs ideology.

Is it just me, or did we somehow lose the whole “the Planet is dying from the sword stuck in it, oh and the Lovecraftian old gods are still making trouble.” Thread? As usual?
We completely did, this expansion was supposed to be all about how the corruption is spreading because of the sword, then it went to "oh the planet is dying from the sword" and then "oh but you hero, you can level up this necklace Azeroth gave you in order to heal the planet, so this isn't an issue anymore because our writers suck, let's also forget to give any hint to what the fuck is sylvannas planning, it's not like the Forsaken are driven by their ambitions and will do anything to accomplish what they want, having her ditch the horde entirely". Let's not forget the alliance still see the forsaken as impure beings, as if they were sinful in nature, so are they gonna let them live or are they going to purify them? I mean, they'll have to forgive them for sure somehow, even though they didn't forgive Sylvannas for becoming an undead when she tried to return to the alliance, and they still thought till the very end, that Arthas was acting of his own will and had betrayed them. Blizzard has had horrible writing for a long while.
@@rRekko It's almost like the story has multiple facets to it. And discovering one thing can lead to other things. That's called good storytelling. You're essentially going, "Wow, why are these human kingdoms fighting in Gondor? Isn't this whole book about delivering the ring to Mordor? This Tolkien guy is shitty."
The storyline never was about the corruption of the sword. That was stopped by our artifacts. The corruption ended before BFA even really started.
The story began with the Azerite mining as a two fold issue: it was basically the planet bleeding to death AND its properties made it valuable. Both can be a plot point at the same.
We have one thread of "we need to heal the planet of these Azerite wounds" and another thread of "we need to stop the other side from abusing these wounds." The whole N'Zoth debacle was a direct result from the former with current conflict being the latter (although we may see less conflict between sides now).
As far as undead go, they ARE an affront to the natural order. As far as what the Alliance plans to do? Who knows. They seem cool with Light based Undead so there's that option, possibly. Sometimes people change their opinions on things. That's pretty human.
All of your points of it being bad writing are pretty weak. It just sounds like you aren't able to grasp multiple plot points. I take it you only liked Blizzard's writing when it was like "Horde attack with big axe! Alliance no like!" or something. But now you're like, "Woah woah, we have several threads going on at once? Characters grow and change their dispositions? New threats arise and need to be confronted? Bad writing!!"
Andrew, what are you talking about? Literally we JUST had a patch about both your points. The current raid (Eternal Palace) is about N'Zoth and Azerite being abused to free him (which, ya know, is still actively hurting the planet.)
None of these threads are lost. They're both currently being addressed. We have N'Zoth/Azshara as one thread this expansion and Sylvanas as another. Both are ongoing.
@@drudle lots of open ends, no focus, convenient development her, there, everywhere. That's the bad writing. The corruption spread by the sword was supposed to be the thing killing Azeroth, yet plot device necklace somehow got rid of it, even though they announced we'd be fighting that corruption they had a sudden change of mind and now the world really isn't dying. We never did any quests to "close the world's wounds", we just had a few wq and we were collecting all the azerite we could to use it in the war, yet it was never really used in the main plot, it was just a convenient side fact never really explored just to have that roulette power up added.
The old gods trying to mess up with Azeroth was again, not really explored because fanboys hated blizzard for coming up with the old gods yet again, and even then, it was but a minor thing. It's like they were testing the waters with every single idea, not focusing on anything and jumping from one idea to the other because they couldn't come up with a compelling plot.
LOTR wasn't about sending the ring to Mordor dude, it was about trying to stop Sauron from resurrecting to stop a world ending war. The author knew how to properly link all the events and develop the factions. LOTR and WoW can't be compared at all.
Also, like I said, Blizzard has had really bad storytelling for a while, the first 2 Warcraft games, are an example of not really interesting plot, while Warcraft 3 and TFT had some nice developments and nothing was really wasted, hence why the story of WoW up to WotLK was actually good, because it had good source material, as for the rest, well, MoP had somewhat decent story and Legion had a really nice plot. Who knows, perhaps the next xpac will have decent or good story again? Since WotLK good, Cataclysm bad, MoP decent, WoD literally what?, Legion good, BfA bad.
@@rRekko But we did get rid of the swords corruption PRIOR to BfA, it was the reason why our artifacts cant be used anymore. BfA was intially an expansion about FACTION WAR, not old-gods. Literally noone said that the expansion would be about the corruption of the sword, since its not here anymore. Noone said that the expansion would focus around old gods (even though it does to a certain extend). It was all about the war campaign, the azerite mining, Sylvanas going bonkers. Did you even play the last two expansions?

I know right, she asks him why she should fight him he says to make me suffer she then gets her daggers and injures him when she clearly could have killed him to make him suffer and humiliate him. How much clearer could Blizzard have made it that she was toying with him for her own sick amusement? If she wanted him dead quickly she could have loaded him with arrows from the wall when he stepped out alone.
