I was aboard the Carnival Fantasy with my mom in January 2020, on probably one of her last voyages. I cried when I saw this video because we had such a great time and it felt like hearing that a friend had passed that you had seen recently. I know it was old and gave almost 30 years of service but it still made me so sad.
Man... the memories. Left from New Orleans to Cozumel on the Fantasy in July, 2008. My parents let me take my best friend. He and I were 17 at the time and were going to be seniors in high school that year. Met so many cool people and had some absolutely hilarious times in Mexico. It was sad when the whole thing was over. Me, my friend and my little brothers were so bummed to say goodbye to the girls we met on the ship. I kept in touch with some of the people I met for a couple of years, but now I don't even remember their names and I lost all of the photos we took. My first (and probably last) cruise was on this ship. I think it was Feb. 1990, so she would have been brand new. I remember my hubby saying it was the biggest ship in the world (at the time). I think it had 9 floors, and took about 30 min. to walk the length at a fast clip! I remember timing it. Sorry to see it's life is over. I've got a portrait with me in a red satin cocktail dress with the Captain....those were the days!
My wife and I spent our honeymoon on this ship in 1991 we went to Freeport and Nassau at the time it was one of the best ships around. Sad that it only lasted 30 years.

Hey, I used to work for Premier Cruise Lines too - The Oceanic. 3 and 4 day cruises to the Bahamas and Salt Caye. What year did you work there? I was the diver/shore ex/cruise staff; 1998 if I remember correctly.
True story, in 1999 I was on the Fantasy for a short cruise out of Port Canaveral. My wife was very outgoing and she befriended a petit brunette in the casino and taught her how to play craps. We hung out with this woman and even snorkeled with her and her husband on the private cay. The last night of the cruise our new friend was on stage belting out a song in the amateur talent contest. The MC came on stage said ladies and gentlemen this is Ms. Shania Twain. Those were her country music days and she always had curly hair professionally. But on the cruise her hair was straight, and not being a fan neither of us recognized her.

@Dinesh Birendra Fantasy was built in 1990 so it's been sailing for 30 years. I would assume in 30 years, the number of cruises, passengers, etc it was well paid for and made a good profit for the company! That would roughly be 100 million brought in per year based on 2000 passengers @ $500 per person sailing for 300 days per year. So the rough total revenue over 30 years would have been 300 million. These are all ROUGH ROUGH numbers but they wouldn't provide the service if they didn't make a profit!

Scrapping these ships has actually caused a bit of regret within the cruise lines. While their operating cost per passenger was higher than new snips, they were fully paid for. Additionally, it became harder to offer "value" cruises (3-4 days for a few hundred dollars) with the big ships, and not everyone wants to pay thousands for a 7 day cruise. Cruise lines actually reversed their plans to scrap some of their older ships and kept them in service because of this realization.
Yeah me too, I felt so bad for the capt, I mean I bet he's had plenty of days where he's thought "I feel like beaching the thing today" but to say screw you to the company, Never his own Good Ship!"
What disturbs me more is the fact that in the west we pay more and more tax to be punished for have a car or a motorcycle and that is not good for the environment. Interesting fact: most of the Panting Beams and various other stringers from this hull were sold to a repair facility in Duluth, Minnesota USA. They were refurbed then installed on a freighter vessel
I cruised on the ship around 1990. We were in the furthest forward bottom cabin on the right side, pretty much immediatly behind the anchor you see in the video. It's amazing to see where our cabin was plowing into the beach sand. I remember we once hit something out at sea and it was like being inside the Liberty Bell.

I stood at that very spot on her bridge while they floated her after long dry dock in mobile. It was dark and breezy, not much room for a ship that size. Will always remember, in the background, piped through shipboard entertainment music. Tide is high but I’m holding on… Funny how stuff triggers memories. She was a good enough ship. Taken lots of folks to lots of places. So long Fantasy. Thanks for the memories.
Fantasy was our very first cruise experience, and it got us hook on cruising as our number one family vacation option. That was about 20 years ago when my daughter was 10 years old. Sad to hear that the Fantasy had to be scraped.
My first two cruises were on that ship. Had so much fun the first trip that we booked another just a few months later. Way back in 2009. At the prime age of 24. This ship proved it doesn’t need to be a mega ship to be great. Good times for sure.
@@MatthewWatches Nope. Its because now during covid the iron price is really high and the shipping companies can sell the ship for more then they bought it.
My first cruise (1997) was on Fantasy. Had a ball! All of the cruises since have always started by thinking of the first. Sad occasion. Thanks Fantasy!
Our first cruise was on the Fantasy (2003) we had a great time, Cynthia my wife won $ 1200 in the casino, our daughter LeAnn twelve at the time met new friends.
Had some great times with my wife on this ship in 1995. Breakfast at one of the tables next to the sea in the carribean was amazing. Worst part was departing the ship. Cruise is over.
Cruised from Puerto Rico on her. What a great time she was able to get into smaller ports so the crowding was less. Carnival needs to keep this class of ships because they are more personal.
I stayed at the resort not far from this spot, the black sand beaches and rainbow sheen on the water was spectacular, unlike anything you’ve ever seen, highly recommended
This is so sad. Inevitable but sad. I spent my first ever cruise on this ship over 2 decades ago. They had this incredible midnight buffet, and themed nights for dinner. High tea. There was a dress code. It was a different time.
Sad to see. Was the ship that was the first cruise for me & my young family. We all enjoyed the cruise, especially my kids (who are now in their mid 20s).
Our first cruise and honeymoon cruise from Orlando to the Bahamas, November 14th 1993. We are saddened to see what has become of this fine memorable vessel.
Went on this ship last year and it was trash! The vent fell off the ceiling and dropped black mold all over the room. The rooms on the other side had a pipe bust and flooding all over the floors and smelled like mold.
I went on It in 2016 and was the first ever cruise ship I sailed on, now I’ve been on 4 so far. But yes the Fantasy had gave me some amazing memories and what do you expect? She was launched in 1990 so she’s about 30 years old or so. But in my opinion it was a great ship sad to see it scrapped along with Sovereign, Monarch and Inspiration.
@@oceanlinerhub5765 what I expect, especially for the price of a cruise ship ticket, is to not have mold and for the vessel to be kept above the standards of a roach motel maybe?
A truly magnificent ship, we were watching from the other side of the harbor pool as the dock built her up. As her sisters too, it was so nice. Eventually we had get into tour on the ship, because my friend's father was a ship welder at the shipyard. Sad to see her at scrap yard.
It is always so sad to see a cruise ship beaching to be cut apart! Hopefully a bit of that ship will be recycled into newer ships, so that a piece lives on.
I was a trumpet player in the showband on that ship in the 90s. I can't remember I was probably on there for up to 3 months on many consecutive 10 and 11 day Caribbean runs.
I tried to go on that ship for my first cruise. The thing couldn’t even leave port. It’s time for that ship to go. Everyone in mobile was happy carnival was coming to town and then they sent us that!!
My wife and I were on a another Carnival ship when the Fantasy cruised by and circled our ship on its maiden voyage. The ships blasted there air horns as we all went to the rail to wave and wish it well. Makes me a little sad!
Me,my parents and one of my Nephew's cruised on the fantasy a few times out of Charleston, SC. For its age it was in very good shape and had been well maintained when we were on board
I was on the sovereign of the seas on 2006… that was the blue ship right next to the Fantasy being beached. At the time of beaching, it was known as the Pulmanter sovereign.
Met my wife newyears eve 1994 in the crew bar.Transferred from MS Celebration when it went into dry dock in dec 94 .A shout out to any croups working June 94 on celebration and the fantasy upto jan 95 .Docked at San Juan,Freeport and Nassau on 3 and 4 day cruises.Coming upto our 24 year wedding anniversary in June.
I was supposed to take this ship last year my first cruise with Carnival! Then the pandemic happened & the fantasy lost its life. I find it so ironic that these cruise lines are getting rid of their older fleet so rapidly.
I am still friends with a young woman i met/ hooked up with on that cruise in 1988 when I was 20 and she was 18. She’s a teacher with a lovely family. What memories. Sad to see it go.
Instead of scrapping it, you'd think some millionaire would pay the scrap price and moor it at his private island. Or dock it in a big city and turn it into a haunted ship tour.
@@justso1823 I feel the same way about grand airplanes. They are beautiful and represent so much but even just sitting there the money is going up in flames by the hour and you cannot have this. My first two cruises were on that ship. Had so much fun the first trip that we booked another just a few months later. Way back in 2009. At the prime age of 24. This ship proved it doesn’t need to be a mega ship to be great. Good times for sure.
That was the slowest intentional beaching for salvage i've ever seen!
because the pilots operating the ship probably hate beaching a perfectly good ship....
@@MatthewWatches Nope. Its because now during covid the iron price is really high and the shipping companies can sell the ship for more then they bought it.
How many have you seen ?
I was thinking the same thing didn't even make a ripple in the water. Seems like such a waste!
It has a lot more momentum than an empty cargo ship. Doesn't need a lot of speed.
this video absolutely confirms my long held hypothesis that the radar is always the last to die
My first cruise (1997) was on Fantasy. Had a ball! All of the cruises since have always started by thinking of the first. Sad occasion. Thanks Fantasy!
My first cruise was on this ship as well
It was my first cruise 2 😭
Our first cruise was on the Fantasy (2003) we had a great time, Cynthia my wife won $ 1200 in the casino, our daughter LeAnn twelve at the time met new friends.
That was much smoother than I expected.
Had some great times with my wife on this ship in 1995. Breakfast at one of the tables next to the sea in the carribean was amazing. Worst part was departing the ship. Cruise is over.
This very same cruise ship was once home ported in Mobile, Alabama.
Sad day but I am glad I got to enjoy her. Thanks for the memories Carnival Fantasy.
3 good friends and myself went on that ship on June 25th 1993 it was a singles cruise had a blast! I still have the pictures...sad to see her go
How many hundreds of thousands of people had an awesome vacation on that ship. Thank you Carnival Fantasy
Got that same view near a local motel next to the scrap yard. "0_o"
The rainbow sheen on the water is leaking petroleum products
@@dallasbillet8273 See that thing going over your head? That’s the joke.
@@boataxe4605 hahahaha yeah wow....
@@dallasbillet8273
We understood the sarcasm, thanks.
My wife and me took our first cruise on tha fantasy!
RIP fantasy you will be missed
I’m surprised they don’t come in faster to beach more of the keel on shore.
Probably because the dont want the ship to get damaged and sink.
Yeah if you flood the engineering spaces it's going to make things a lot harder
Sooner or later they’d have to cut into the engineering spaces. The beach looks pretty smooth so how much damage really?
Our first ever family cruise on Fantasy 1996, loved it ,
Dave UK
This is so sad. Inevitable but sad. I spent my first ever cruise on this ship over 2 decades ago. They had this incredible midnight buffet, and themed nights for dinner. High tea. There was a dress code. It was a different time.
You had to come suited and booted at dinner 😉💯😉
Natalie B.
It was the last ship that my wife and myself went on. She was still a fairly nice vessel.🇺🇸😎
I got more of a kick out of listening to ask the frantic accents in the background than watching the ship sorely back up.
These ship still look in great shape.
Dont look at the mattress in 34b
Not enough room, we're all getting too fat...
Yeah but their age makes maintaining them too expensive for the company
@@gremio3293 yep, Cher looks in great shape but she’s becoming an uneconomical repair too 😳😳
Just think of what all that scrap will turn into...love seeing the beginning of something new!
I was waiting for DDay to yell "RAMMING SPEED!" Missed opportunity.
I'm disappointed they weren't blasting the horn.
First ship wife and I sailed on ( her 40th birthday). Awesome cruise to Nassau and back with a day at sea.
This was our first Cruise back in 2004 and then again in 2011, 2012 and 2013. This was a good ship and will be missed.
Our first cruise was on the Fantasy...six other cruises followed. Can't wait to go again.
Sad to see. Was the ship that was the first cruise for me & my young family. We all enjoyed the cruise, especially my kids (who are now in their mid 20s).
So many great memories aboard this ship. She will always be my favorite.
Our first cruise and honeymoon cruise from Orlando to the Bahamas, November 14th 1993. We are saddened to see what has become of this fine memorable vessel.
Captain : Pilot, ramming speed.
Pilot : Aye-aye cap'n!
"Am I driving OK?"
...
"I think we're parked, man."
"Whatever you do, dont call him strawberry"
I had the privilage of vacationing on the fantasy. Loved it!
1:58 Go starboard, Samir! You're breaking the ship!
Lot of us started training on this ship. Old memories! 1997
Had a fantastic time going around the Caribbean on this boat in 2019. Such a wonderful holiday.
my first ever cruise last year . You’ll be missed
Legend has it those guys are still yelling "Hard to starboard"
Went on this ship last year and it was trash! The vent fell off the ceiling and dropped black mold all over the room. The rooms on the other side had a pipe bust and flooding all over the floors and smelled like mold.
I went on It in 2016 and was the first ever cruise ship I sailed on, now I’ve been on 4 so far. But yes the Fantasy had gave me some amazing memories and what do you expect? She was launched in 1990 so she’s about 30 years old or so. But in my opinion it was a great ship sad to see it scrapped along with Sovereign, Monarch and Inspiration.
I went on it last year too and it was our worst experience ever on a ship.
@@oceanlinerhub5765 what I expect, especially for the price of a cruise ship ticket, is to not have mold and for the vessel to be kept above the standards of a roach motel maybe?
oh hell wheres your sense of adventure
I know right I was mugged and sexually assaulted by some homeless people living on the ship as stowaways.
My wife and I went on atleast 5 cruises on the Fantasy , we always had a good time
A truly magnificent ship, we were watching from the other side of the harbor pool as the dock built her up. As her sisters too, it was so nice. Eventually we had get into tour on the ship, because my friend's father was a ship welder at the shipyard. Sad to see her at scrap yard.
Skipper landed that ship as if were in a parking lot at the mall.. perfect 🎉🎉🎉
Captain: you know what...we're going out with a bang. Full speed ahead
Seems such a shame! Comical to see the radar scanner still working....don't want to run into something!
It is always so sad to see a cruise ship beaching to be cut apart! Hopefully a bit of that ship will be recycled into newer ships, so that a piece lives on.
It was, large parts of her were used in a new Great Lakes freighter.
No shit! I cruised on that boat back in 1990 or so. Had a great time.
This video is a metaphor for mankind's destiny.
The only cruise ship I've been on!
My wife and I were on a another Carnival ship when the Fantasy cruised by and circled our ship on its maiden voyage. The ships blasted there air horns as we all went to the rail to wave and wish it well. Makes me a little sad!
their
Me,my parents and one of my Nephew's cruised on the fantasy a few times out of Charleston, SC. For its age it was in very good shape and had been well maintained when we were on board
I remember when that ship was refurbished and now it's being scrapped.
The Carnival Fantasy... My very 1st cruise in 2005. This cruise ship had me hook on cruising ever since. 31 cruises down and 4 more booked this year!
That's the only time I'd want to be on a ship lol
I was on the sovereign of the seas on 2006… that was the blue ship right next to the Fantasy being beached. At the time of beaching, it was known as the Pulmanter sovereign.
*in Lloyd Bridges voice from 'Airplane!'* HE'S COMIN' RIGHT AT US!!! AAAAHHHH!!!" *jumps out nearest window*
Needs way more likes!
Looks like I picked a bad week to quit sniffing glue....
😂😂😂😂😂😂
My wife and kids along with two of their friends took the Fantasy out of Mobile twice and both trips were great. RIP Ms Fantasy.
This clip will probably end up in a "BIGGEST CRASH MISTAKES IN BOAT HISTORY" video.
Well damn. I too was on that ship twice in my lifetime. 30 years is a long time.
First cruise ship that I was ever on in 2005! Came home with a Sea Leech! It was fun a little while!!! I throw him back tell years later!!!
I was supposed to take this ship last year my first cruise with Carnival! Then the pandemic happened & the fantasy lost its life. I find it so ironic that these cruise lines are getting rid of their older fleet so rapidly.
I love the orange flare....of course the captain can see that.....I think he has a good idea where he's going....
I'm leaving on a fun ship., Don't know when I'll be back again.
Nice
I am still friends with a young woman i met/ hooked up with on that cruise in 1988 when I was 20 and she was 18. She’s a teacher with a lovely family. What memories. Sad to see it go.
I was on the Jubilee. My bad.
Instead of scrapping it, you'd think some millionaire would pay the scrap price and moor it at his private island. Or dock it in a big city and turn it into a haunted ship tour.
They scrap for tens of millions
Well, Jeffery is dead now so...to the scrap yard.
100k a day just for upkeep . Ships made its money 💸💸💸
@@justso1823 I feel the same way about grand airplanes. They are beautiful and represent so much but even just sitting there the money is going up in flames by the hour and you cannot have this. Better to be scrapped and made into something new. At least the "soul" of these great ships is reincarnated in some way.
At a measly $0.05 a pound, that ship is worth $7 Million.
