This picture seems to be staged. Someone placed the bottles on the counter and the cup on the table to make it look more interesting. Kind of like a lost place where people left in a hurry in the middle of a party.
Yup, see those cash register LCD screens on the floor, through rusted so water level's been up. So no way a coffee cup / bottles would survive upright on the tables. And the ceiling/speakers too, so this part has been submerged fully.

Modern day titanic my ass , one was an amazing sequence of events that leads to hitting an ice berg, the other was a captain who drank too much and left the people to fend for themselves and die !!!
BRIAN MOONEY in a way it is a modern day titanic, due to the arrogance and negligence of those running the ship destruction became of the magnificent ships. The workers of titanic were busy sending messages to shore for passengers and ignored another ships (known as The California) distress call saying there was an iceberg in the path, they cutoff communication with The California and less than 1 hour later they had collided with the iceberg, as well as this the captain decided to get sloppy drunk, ignore safety protocols and leave innocent people to die because he was being careless. Sounds pretty similar to me.
With the Titanic, Flair's were sent up but the passing ship thought it was for celebration and not all the crew were sending telegrams. Also, considering the navigational abilities of the times, human error in the form of watchman not seeing it till almost upon the iceberg compared to electronic devices being able to detect water depth and submerged items being over ridden might make this similar but I don't believe the Titanic's captain intent was anywhere near what this guy's was.
@@makaylawishon723 titanic's captain never got drunk. And he didnt ignore any safety protocol either, because they were created specifically because titanic sank...
@@makaylawishon723 yeah, Titanic was not mismanaged, white star lined wanted to make their deadline and arrive in fact early To NY also , the standard practice was to speed up through ice fields back then, the technology back then was also a challenge, relying on lookouts, but in terms of manning the ship, Titanic captain and many officers went down with the ship prioritizing women and children firsy
I watched your GoPro footage as well. These pictures are amazing and terrifying. I worked on ships of this same class for many years on Carnival, and to see "my" ship in that state is hard to quantify. Excellent, excellent job.
I believe the shots are from an official person connected with the salvage for the purpose of documentation etc. Some shot were purposely staged, such as the wine bottles on the bar and a few other shots. I believe the scrapping of the ship is well under way, if not almost done.
They had to be from an official or an insurer. Costa was very specific about limiting the public's viewing of the wreck. Nobody other than workers were allowed on board, and everything was to be destroyed.
It must have really stunk in there. I worked at Todd Shipyards in Galveston during my first two years of college back in 1968 when we were converting old WW2 tankers and Lykes Lines ships to the first container ships. I still remember the stench of those old vessels.
Things like these are why I love shooting photography. I'm a bit jealous. 😁 I haven't been to many abandoned sites, much less a place of this magnitude.
I'm kind of amazed at the condition of some of those areas above the water line ; for example the gym equipment, which, whilst looking tired, doesn't look like anything has really happened.
Great pictures! Amazing how much damage to the side was submerged and the other side looks like she's ready for the next voyage. Was the captain ever punished for this horrific accident?
The Costa Concordia is/was such a beautiful vessel. I truly feel sorry for all of the passengers that had to go through this. It must have been a frightening experience.... I've personally seen this beautiful ship on the inside and remember thinking it looked a bit garish or flashy. (typically Italian if you will) But seeing it now, like this. After what has happened... To all who had to endure the final moments on the cc. I hope you are doing well now.
This looks eerily similar to cruise ships I’ve been on. I know it’s part of the carnival cruise line but it’s kinda weird seeing somewhere similar to where I’ve walked and slept that’s been underwater for that long.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing... if I had to use one word to describe the interior decor of this ship it would be "gawdy"... it is an appalling mish-mash os 80's/saved-by-the-bell, art deco, fantasy/harry potter, and a random motel 6 off of some highway in the midwestern USA... I've seen a lot of video from inside the ship before it was ruined and every room and public space is not classy or elegant, its just chintzy and tacky and gawdy...
@@bgdrewsif It's also that hideous green color. Why was so much based around that color scheme. It's like they've tried to build emerald city from the wizard of oz for a cheap theater production.

Not really. The ship sank because the gash in the hull was huge: 70 metres! NO watertight compartimentalisation would have kept her afloat with that massive damage. That hideous coward Schettino was lucky that the dead ship drifted to the shore which kept her 'upright' for crucial minutes. Had it drifted asea the death toll would have been massive, given the list and the utter chaos aboard. Also, it didn't split in two during 2 years on her side, as hulking as it was.
Tristan Ziegler It's the same model of ship as the “Carnival Victory”, it's actually a bit nicer interior wise if you want to get a good idea of what it used to look like inside.
You should not. but it's an obligation of the captain not to leave the vessel until everyone's have been accounted for (or how many are missing) and comanding the abandoning procedures. Only at the very end can a master leave the vessel.
It goes with the job. And as with everything, as long as all goes well it looks (and kinda is) easy, but when the shit hits the fan...I'm sure everyone has his own bad experiences, although perhaps not as that bad!
Imagine this being the Titanic being raised if she was still in a one piece. The image of the outside promenade gave me that feeling. So sad, such a short life for a new ship and the lives lost just because the captain wanted to show off...

Thank you. Your work is fantastic. You really did the Costa Concordia proud. I enjoyed it .
Wow, this is simply astonishing. This beautifully defines the power of photography and its ability to record before time inevitably erases. Thank you for sharing, pure inspiration!
One of the few times on UA-cam that the background music is perfect for the video
Very few.
2:13 I see the cup of coffee survived intact!
This picture seems to be staged. Someone placed the bottles on the counter and the cup on the table to make it look more interesting. Kind of like a lost place where people left in a hurry in the middle of a party.
omg lol you are right although that may just be rust water in that mug
Yup, see those cash register LCD screens on the floor, through rusted so water level's been up. So no way a coffee cup / bottles would survive upright on the tables. And the ceiling/speakers too, so this part has been submerged fully.
I can't even imagine all of the valuable and priceless possessions all of these travelers lost: photos, clothing, luggage etc. They had to leave it behind and save their lives.
this is officially one of my favourite videos of all time
Put bars on all the exits and make the captain live the rest of his life in there.
that's kinda mean I know he was a coward and did abandon ship but he is still a person.
@@addyandharry9798 he didn’t give a shit when he let 32 passengers die.
don’t tell me he is just a person when he has no regard for other people’s lives.
@@addyandharry9798 Hitler was just a person.
@UC9OEUvReb78puFjyhtiRw1Q is this about hitler
Are you trying to compare the atrocities that he did to one coward that should’ve stayed on the ship
shut up
This isn’t about hitler
Even 7 years later this is still really sad
Poor captain, he tripped and fell off the boat but fortunately he landed in a life boat.
HAHAAHHAHAHH funny
Not Funny. And No I am Not A Karen. But I am seeing this as a joke. 😣
I was on the trip it did before the one where it crashed, I was 8. Chilling to see how it got wrecked..
I went on the ship so many times, my last time was in January 6 2012 a couple days before the accident ☹️
It must be heartbreaking seeing what became of her
Amazingly heartbreaking. One half of the ship is completely destroyed? The other looks like it needs a quick tidy up. Rip to those that died.
Because 50% was submerged and 50% wasn’t.
@@makaylawishon723 ready a few books about the Titanic instead of watching shitty films and you realise you are talking complete shit
From construction to deconstruction..and in between happiness and sorrow..time is short..choose wisely.
So eerie.... the muddy corridors.
and the ghostly family in the picture in the cabin @ 0:54
I watched your GoPro footage as well. These pictures are amazing and terrifying. I worked on ships of this same class for many years on Carnival, and to see "my" ship in that state is hard to quantify. Excellent, excellent job.
I still remember seeing it on the news. I've never been on the Costa Concordia, let alone a cruise ship, but this video made me cry
Nope. It was a photographer who snuck in and took pictures.
Spectacular and haunting.
I like how the Gym/Fitness room is still clean 4:01
This montage of photos and music at the beginning is a piece of work.
Thank you Jonathan for these powerful pictures.
0:49 what my room looks like
It must have really stunk in there. I worked at Todd Shipyards in Galveston during my first two years of college back in 1968 when we were converting old WW2 tankers and Lykes Lines ships to the first container ships. I still remember the stench of those old vessels.
I felt like there was gonna be a jump scare the whole time lmao
*_it's amazing the lights still function_*
Glad to see the Costa Concordia sail again!
You're a regular comedian.
I can still remember the interior of the other three Costa Ships I went on, they look so similar
Things like these are why I love shooting photography. I'm a bit jealous. 😁 I haven't been to many abandoned sites, much less a place of this magnitude.
It’s so sad to watch this 😞 I stayed on the costa Concordia 2 months before it sank
I went on many conquest class ships and to see a ship so familiar sink is very dissapointing
She really was quite grand. A beautiful vessel. These images are hauntingly beautiful as mentioned previously.
I'm kind of amazed at the condition of some of those areas above the water line ; for example the gym equipment, which, whilst looking tired, doesn't look like anything has really happened.
I feel so sad about them who was trapped inside...people in the elevators...I can't even imagine how terrible it would be. 😔
Great pictures! Amazing how much damage to the side was submerged and the other side looks like she's ready for the next voyage. Was the captain ever punished for this horrific accident?
16 year jail sentence.
Thanks for sharing
Crazy that all those treadmills still look pretty new
This is Sad and Haunting to look At!Beautifull Photography!
The Costa Concordia is/was such a beautiful vessel. I truly feel sorry for all of the passengers that had to go through this. It must have been a frightening experience....
I've personally seen this beautiful ship on the inside and remember thinking it looked a bit garish or flashy. (typically Italian if you will)
But seeing it now, like this.
Isles suck. LGR
3:47 yay, the piano is still fine somehow!
No but seriously, they should make this into a museum or something of the sort.
It was bolted down.
The cockpit photo is the most amazing one, you can see one side fully destroyed by the water and the other side in bright colors, looks like a movie set, so amazing
By "cockpit" are you referring to the bridge?
@@slim-oneslim8014 sorry, yes 😂
@@carolitoffana 👍
I think the belongings from those people whose cabins weren't affected by the water should be returned to its respective owners.
I think there were only two deaths as a result of the accident.

theenglishtanker Yeah I saw that on another video three minutes after I posted the comment. Boy was I wrong. 33 souls, what a damn shame.
S Stills indeed it is. But that’s what happens when you give an incompetent captain command of a vessel like the costa concordia
theenglishtanker does it make you wonder whether there are other incompetent captains still piloting our oceans?
Completely blows to see such an awesome feat of achievement reduced to a moldy piece of scrap..RIP for the ones who didn't make it out.
its sad to see that a modern cruise ship capsized i feel bad for the people that were trapped inside, r.i.p to those who lost their lives due to a bad captain
So many of the damaged parts make me feel like I'm looking at some old, abandoned derelict building from a hundred years ago, not a cruise ship
Thankyou Jonathan for this awesome video.
It so very thought provoking.😞
Your photography is awesome too.
I'm not sure if this was a brand new Liner when it sailed on its fateful day?? The cost of the Liner / loss / major salvage operation costs.
It's got to be the most mind blowing amount of money connected/ spent to one Passenger Liner??!
I do believe this Liner has now been completely dismantled now😔
Your photography of this awesome Liner are absolutely amaZing.
You must be totally amaZed yourself.
It must have taken you quite some time to photograph the Liner.
A large area to cover is far from easy.
Good Luck in your future endeavours 😐
All that work to build it.....
And 1,000 times more work to tear it apart and dispose or recycle the materials.
A B C ouch,headache!!nononono....🤕
And all that money 😔
Disaster aside... I can't get over how hideous the interiors of this ship are. It's like something from the 80's...
@@bgdrewsif Couldn't agree more.
@@bgdrewsif It's also that hideous green color. Why was so much based around that color scheme. It's like they've tried to build emerald city from the wizard of oz for a cheap theater production.
I love going on cruise's - there is no better vacation than being on a cruise ship - an it so sad to see what happen to this beautiful ship- I am in tears just looking at this video - wow it just didnt deserve to end like that - being taking apart in an scrap yard with seemingly so much life left in it :'(
abraham mayes
My thoughts exactly- just doesn't seem the end such a magnificent ship deserves
Who the fuck cares about the ship, what is sad is that people died.
You are not in tears watching this. Lol your pretty lame
For me, it was when they towed her back to Genoa. The once beautiful ship was so broken and damaged. It was heart breaking.
@partyfants Hey pasty farts! Who gives a rat's rear end what you think.
Do the people get there items returned to them when the ship was raised before it was scrapped?
What did they do to the furniture that wasn't damaged by the water, for example gym equipment the beds and the TV sets?
At 2:08 how is that wine bottle still standing upright on the bar?
It was probably picked up and set there after it was raised
How was anything still on counters and the gym equipment in a neat row
John Montanez the gym equipment were nailed or ‘glued’ to the floor.
And at 2:12 cup of coffee sitting on table
That wine bottle was the only one not drunk
A modern cruise, half sunken for two years
32 people perished. Look at the interior, worn down by water...
R.I.P Costa Concordia 2006-2012
That is heart breaking. Hope the captain coward spends the rest of his useless life in jail.
You mean prison
Sims sunshine same thing dumbass
no it's not, dumbass.
He got sentenced to 16 years
@Bill Williams ...But... why are they called prisoners if they're in a jail? Wouldn't they be, well, jailers? :D
Haunting music and imagery
Beautiful Costa Concordia you gave us great memories RIP 💙💙💙
It shows you how fragile these ships really are!
Not really. It goes to show how human idiocy and cockiness can kill.
the ship interior looks very old fashioned and a little bit ugly
Cuz it's rusted to hell bud...
Tristan Ziegler
It's the same model of ship as the “Carnival Victory”, it's actually a bit nicer interior wise if you want to get a good idea of what it used to look like inside.
Tristan Ziegler look up the costa Concordia preview video when it was a new ship , it was one of the prettiest cruise ships out there in my opinion !
Good observation Tristan. Most likely "ugly" because it's been...well....underwater?
Yea cause it's been half way underwater for 2 years.
so where's the capt. during the incident?
Lockheed Jay Smith he took off.
When onboard, a master is captain first, and human second.
Its called honor. Something many are not taught nowadays.
Excellent video. Early on in photos where the ship was its side was reminiscent of Titanic. Very eerie. Thanks!!👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️😟😟😟
I watched the sinking of it and in all of the rooms I'm like, *That room used to be so beautiful...* Just, wow.
Imagine this being the Titanic being raised if she was still in a one piece. The image of the outside promenade gave me that feeling. So sad, such a short life for a new ship and the lives lost just because the captain wanted to show off...
