That's a good ol Tecumseh. Too bad about the coil. Looks like they only had that style coil for a few years. I think it could be upgraded to the newer style but a flywheel would also be needed.
That's what I'm seeing. The two pins on the flywheel are trigger points and the coil is a very strange bird that's no longer available and when you DO find one, they're crazy expensive. @Zippo Varga Small Engine Medic hey brother, look up coil conversion. Look for a website where they use a ford rear diff speed sensor for a pickup, and a GM HEI ignition module for spark timing. I have done this conversion myself on an HH100 on an old sears and it worked awesome. Its a little fiddly to set timing initially, but then when it works its great.

@@ZippoVarga I about have the cart as good as it gets, works fine but no reverse,,,,, I'm by no means an expert on those old Tecumseh engines but I have had 4 or 5 old bolens that have them,, they were over head valves but they have the same solid state,, they are great as long as they don't quit,, your best bet would be to see if you can fine an old engine that has one on it.
I worked at a small engine repair shop for 10 years. I had a guy bring in a "Western Auto" branded generator/welder. Date code on the Tecumseh engine came up 1951. I pointed out to the customer that Tecumseh had gone out of business. It might not be worth repairing because of its age. He wanted it in fully functional condition. The coil was bad among other things. The coil design had been discontinued back in the '50's. Called all over the US. Found a bunch of parts for this combo machine in Louisiana.Guy sqaucked about the prices but I got everything I needed NOS. When something is 60 years old you better be in love with it.
I've been told outrageous prices for things before and told whomever, that it will look good up there on your shelf collecting dust. No way would I give that for a new and certainly not a used one. I'm thinking you'll run across something that will work at the acceptable price. Nice video Zip!
No worries if I don't. I'll just install a suitable replacement engine and remove the Harbor Freight and let the new owner deal with locating the coil if they want the old 10hp back in the Ranger. Cheers my Friend! Zip~
Hmm I used that gadget at the urinal to keep my hands clean. So fabulous to replenish an old Wheel Horse. Hopefully someone will appreciate and purchase this machine. That coil expense is horrible. Is there something else that might work in place of it? You have lots of projects on hand and in the queue when they arrive. Great job and thanks again for the videos.

I Think with the pins on the fly wheel those pins are the trip for a capacitive discharge coil. Go luck fi nding one of those. I have a 6.5 horse tecumseh sitting in garage you can have if you want.

not supposed to have a magnet. Those 2 Pins are what fire the Mag. The Mag has an electro magnetic Pickup coil that magnatises the pickup pin on the Mag. I'll sell ya 2 Mags for $100 + shipping if you can use it. I have 2 spare 1 is good off of a running but worn out OH140 engine and the other one is off of a blown up HH120 and has not been tested. You can have both of them for that price. Most of the time it's the magnetic pickup that goes bad on those. Usually the very thin wires corrode off. Or some idiot hooked the battery up backwards and instantly fried the windings in the coil and diodes.
Yeah I have a White outdoors tractor, with the 17.5hp tecumseh, I'm going to have to pull it, and replace with a briggs, oh the engine runs so nice, but the stator went, and won't charge the battery, and wouldn't you know it the stator is 75 used to 170 new, so out it comes.

Can you show me how to change the pull started on a stihl bg86c leaf blower, the spring has broken and l have ordered new parts but I'm unsure of how to remove it and put in the new parts with the correct tension on the spring so it works. Also iv looked at a few of your videos and you undo your rope puller with a driver in you drill or ratchet but my seems to have a plastic center rather than a screw or bolt to undo?? l hope you can help me please.

Is that an external to the flywheel coil? Are you sure? Many of the Tecumseh engines had the coil underneath the flywheel, especially back in the points n condenser days. In 1968 they might have even put the electronic ignition there using the same design as the points technology. That would explain why the coil is not in the bucket o’plenty. It is hidden under the fw, not external to the fw. That explains why not magnetic fw, because the magnets are on the inner side of the outer ring of the fw. Or I could be completely wrong here. Are their external coil mounting screw holes?
Alright Zippo, I have to ask the stupid question. you said this is a 1968 Tecumseh, correct? And I saw solid state on the blower housing. So I'm assuming no points. I have a ~1971 Wheelhorse (Reo) TrailBlazer 7 snowblower with a HH70 and it still has points and adjustable timing (which surprised me). If the HH100 does have points too, couldn't you connect any 12v coil like the older Kohler K series engines run, and have ignition? It seems like there should be some way to make something else work... I'm with you on not wanting to spend $200 on a used ignition coil. cheers Sean
The HH100s and HH120s do not have points and condensor. They are solid state ignition systems. I have 5 sears tractors with the tecumseh engines that run beautifully. I bought a new solid state ignition for my first sears 10xl, and they were a bit pricey back in the 90s. Whether or not they can be found today is the question.

That wedge is a triplex gripper for stretching triplex from pole to building. It grips the bare aluminum conductor of the triplex.

You can ad a hei module, dura spark 12 volt coil and abs sensor and make your own ignition with the tecumseh

overnight solutions , or some fix spark with a wheel speed sensor , i think from a GM .

110 PSI is a great starting point. It will go up as it is used. Walk this way :-) You know i like the Tecumseh's.

I think you are correct on that. Those old drop wires had really tough insulation & those things gripped tight.
