Looting the Carthaginian camp while their comrades were dying.
@@GeorgeFromfnafSB Fighting with the ghost Carthaginian army? Damn Hannibal really is a great strategist.
The fact Rome lost this many men, but still went on to win the war. It’s just bizarre.
This is like the first punic war where the Roman republic lost a lot of men due to nature/bad weather.
Rome was in a state of total war whereas the Punic government had elements actively working towards the war effort, and despite all this Hannibal still posed an existential threat to Rome.
Rome put most of their budget into war if they haven’t they might’ve not won these wars. Troops were expendable to them.
"There's just one inconvenient fact about Rome: they never surrender."
Rome had the population and resolve to keep fielding armies.
This battle was a key engagement of the Second Punic War which was fought on 2 August 216 BC near the ancient village of Cannae in Apulia, southeast Italy. The Carthaginians and their allies, led by Hannibal, surrounded and practically annihilated a larger Roman and Italian army under the consuls Lucius Aemilius Paullus and Gaius Terentius Varro.

wikipedia ahh copy paste
Bro got Paulused in the Punic Wars and again in WW2. Not even his reincarnation could understand his errors 😭

Hannibal is so underrated
Roman strategy in the Punic Wars in a nutshell:
>lose hundreds of thousands of men
>keep fighting
>win
Basically USSR strategy in WWII
@@milanmilansolocontebut urss lost milions
Sounds like USSR
@@Jakringdnaso is italia back then
Rome at the beginning had couple times much more population and army than carthage and was able to conscript more
I love how Hannibal achieved every general's dream, encircling a more larger army, yet still losing the war.
i like how oversimplified can make the most niche topics turn into a massive trend in just a month
wouldn't really call the punic wars niche but I do agree
Frrrr
@@wishbones170 Agreed. The Punic Wars also provided Rome with the training, the navy, and the wealth to expand from a small city to an empire which would rule the known world.
That's a good thing, so more people know about history
Calling the punic wars(especially the second one) niche is crazy😂
Why didn't Hannibal post his encirclements in r/hoi4?
Idk I am pretty sure his posts would’ve got popular
Lmao
He's insane that's why
Because he use nordvpn!
Nah Hannibal was busy was playing encirclemend sim
I love the way Hannibal fought his battles. A genius of centuries
"This is how hannibal became vengance"
Watching this after learning about the details of the Battle of Cannae from Oversimplified hits different fr. Like how you highlighted the Libyan infantries and Hannibal too
"And LOOK what lies before you. A Military generals' WET DREAM. A complete encirclement of a large army (worth 16ish legions) by a much smaller force"
- Sir Oversimplified, 2024.
The Germans at Tannenberg 1914
This is the most important battle in history where its a battle between Strength and Strategy
Rome: (wins First Punic War)
“This enraged Hannibal, who punished them severely”
😂
"In the business, we call this foreshadowing"
"after getting punished Rome got revenge and killed Hannibal"
That was an epic battle.
Crazy battle. Hannibal was a legend fr
Thanks the oversimplified we all are now history buffs
I Remember from oversimplefield video they say that the battle was fouth between the rivier and a hill on a field.
Hannibal is so underrated, btw I’m the 700th like
Great!
cool! though it sounds very strange that every mapper is using the casualties board
Is there any relation between ancient Carthage and modern day tunisia?
Imagine fighting for 12 Hours. Straight, with at most an hour of rest if you're lucky.
80k losses in 12 hours is insanity
Rome: you are outnumbered
Carthage: *pulls out uno reverse card*
That PFP...
The battle was really good
One of the most renowned battles in history, and would could blame the historians and military generals, it was genius.
It’s crazy the amount of times the Roman’s lost by being circled
"NO LUCIUS!! YOUR CENTER IS OVEREXTENDED!! YOU WILL GET FLANKED FROM BEHIND!!"
Please make battle of the masurian lakes would much appreciate it.
After this battle, an Illyrian king came to hannibal to try to ally him against the Romans, but he was captured, but was released because he claimed that he was allying Rome, after he made the deal with Hannibal, they captured him again.
Can you do 2nd Battle of Fallujah?
How do you make these videos
Hannibal, achieving every general's dream by fully encircling a way larger army yet still losing the war:
Ah yes, the infamous COVID-19 pandemic in the second punic war
After the battle, Hannibal's officers urged him to march immediately on Rome, but Hannibal replied that he needed time to consider their proposal. His Numidian cavalry commander, Maharbal, then said, "Assuredly, no one man has been blessed with all God's gifts. You, Hannibal, know how to gain a victory; you do not know how to use it." Ultimately Hannibal did not march on Rome, reasoning that he lacked the siege engines and numbers to take the fortified city. Hannibal had all the signet rings of the Roman nobles slain in the battle collected and sent to the Carthaginian Senate in a plea for reinforcements, however none were forthcoming.
Just so you know this battle took something like 4 to 5 hours to complete so for 4 to 5 hours the Roman army was getting slaughtered they were so tightly squeezed together they couldn't even swing their swords to protect themselves.
Unfortunately for Hannibal, while this victory should win him the war, he never was able to. He killed so many Romans, but the Roman spirit lived on. Thus came a war of attrition, which caused Hannibal's slow, painful downfall.
Definitely Oversimplified inspired
When is the ww1 video that you said it would release 1 month ago
Cancelled due to errors on the software
Meanwhile rome: well anyway heres another army
How dose this battle have to deal with COIVD 19 this was in 216 BC

Same as @pigeoninanutshell?
That's what peak male performance looks like. You might not like it but still
Hannibal wasn't actually invading rome because he wasn't leaving soldier to occupy a city or a land, he is just attacking rome to eventually destroy it
❤❤❤❤
can you do a Turkish War of independence
(Saw it again and noted it was just hours.. maybe just no enough time?)
Thats so far the most (seems like) pointless and most losses on the defendant site i saw till now.
.. more than 2210yeahrs ago.. was this a very specific important spot they(red) just doesnt be able to give up at all cost, so they didnt withdraw the troops out as soon they started circling in? I mean the circling in was very predictible.. they could had at least saved half of the troops..
Why does this vid say it is about Covid
lol this just feels like a normal total war MP match. two sides with infantry clash and whoever wins the cav fight wins the battle basically XD
Can you make a verion for the entire Second Punic war please?

Где делать такие видео?
Hey guys quick question, why did carthage lose the war, I don't know anything about the second punic war.
Two people
Fabian and his strategy
Scipio Africanus
Also Carthage didn't give Hannibal the support he needed
the scipio brothers decided to take spain and then move to the capital carthage... hannibal went back to carthage to stop them but the roman brothers used his strategy wich made hannibal lose during the battle of zama.
the Romans were like the British of the 19th and early 20th; their fleet was way stronger and they decided to isolate Hannibal in Italy while launching major campaigns in Hispania and Northern Africa, crippling the Carthaginian mini-empire; Hannibal never had the guts to siege actual Rome, and when the reinforcements led by his brother Asdrubal were captured/killed, he knew he had lost the war and retreated to Zama (near Carthage), where he lost the final battle of the war (but was not captured and escaped to Anatolia). Roma made peace with Carthage, not Hannibal. Of course, hardliners like Cato wanted it destroyed, and that's what happened in the 3rd Punic War.
Video: a ancient battle in a ancient war
UA-cam: saying it's about covid-19 💀
Pedazo paliza le dieron a los romanos 🤑🤑🤑
This was the military genius of Hannibal… unfortunately he made one crucial mistake, he thought Rome would surrender after this.
You can win a battle, but you can't win the war🗿
Roman army on bottom left: we will have tea and cookies u guys fight
I made a battle in camara that looks like this!

@@idkyet9458Separate lesson: Winning Battles doesn't mean winning wars + Rome is the better State
It doesn't proof thus since rome won lol it proves the opposite delete ur comment
@user-cl7pm7zm3x I know Rome won the war, but it's a plain lesson overall. In many warfare circumstances, the smaller side that had better skill and quality outclassed the side that had better numbers but poorer skill.
