@@TheAntKeeper But if they are an undescribed species, how do you know they'll have honeypot workers? Doesn't really matter if they don't actually, they look so nice.
Great work! Honeypots are so cool. I live in California, where honeypots are very common. I had a colony of Myrmecocystus testaceus before, but they were attacked by invading ants and wiped out. I am getting a Myrmecocystus navajo queen soon. For nesting, if you are willing to, I suggest getting a mini hearth from Tar Heel ants to house these ants in. They are amazing for honeypots, and I’m sure they’d ship there for a larger shipping cost. I’d really recommend their nests, even on another continent!
in Australia our honey pots are actually a genius of camponodus the most commonly known of witch are the black ones or Camponotus inflatus the ones he has are umm im not sure
when you get them a nest make sure to get one where they can hang from the ceiling, thats what Ive had work the best for them, mainly because the repletes love to hang from the celling
I'd definitely recommend looking at what American ant keepers use for their myrmecocystus honeypots and either importing something like a tarheel nest or custom making a nest with a similar design out of ytong. And for names I say you should feed them red nectar and name them the Health Pots/Potions like in a videogame :)
New sub Its been over a year, hows your honey pot ants doing? I never see anybody owning these guys and theyre my favourite, so id love to hear more about them
Oops I meant to say that once I found a M. brevanoda in my house!! Great vid, ever since I started ant keeping I have always wanted a honey pot ant colony, hope they survive
Hello with the heating mat be very careful they are horrible in my experience for ants . They are either to hot or to cold, but if you are going to use it make sure you are not heating the water part of the test tube otherwise you will make humidity skyrocket making the ants drown
Please don't move the brood with a toothpick. I know it seems like a easy way to pick them up but it's very easy to harm the brood with such a pointed tool. I find a small paintbrush to be best to move the brood. It's not sharp and it can be just as easily manipulated. Just slowly spin the paintbrush between your fingers as you run the brush tip over the brood pile and it should pick them up in one pile... Then just reverse the spinning motion to replace the brood in the new test tube.
Hi, i also have just received my honeypot ant, she has two workers currently with no eggs, should i bee giving them sugar water and protein or should i not feed her until she gets more workers? I tried researching and im not getting many answers, thanks!
The seller should always ship using a plastic test tube ☝️ The buyer should then replace it with a glass test tube ☝️ Plastic is safer to ship, glass is better for viewing and recording ☝️
I didn’t know honeypot ants were legal to keep I’m so excited
(Now I want one.)
The Black Honeypot Ant (Camponotus inflatus) is illegal, these are supposedly Melophorus bagoti.

The thumbnail certainly is!

As a rule of thumb, its best to ensure a colony has a steady supply of food and water at all times, especially when there is brood development.
lol ak colony💀. (i’m not making fun of the abbreviated name, i love this channel)
yessss here in tennensee we dont have those i have 5 queens right now
