Congratulations on reaching 2k+ subscribers I also recently good the large ants so really interested in updates to help me with them Also love banded sugar ants too
I love this species, I occasionally see them walking around the bush. I once had to dig a colony up of them as my principal thought they were bull ants and wanted them removed I never got the queen but I got a few alates they were massive. It blew my mind how a sugar ant colony could be as aggressive as bull ants sadly without the queen the colony died out and I never got to keep them
@@A-Gutierreeezz I was new to the hobby and didn't realize how bad it was I now almost have 3yrs of experience and haven't tried to dig a colony up since
Instantly recognised the banded ants, exact species we have in our back yard! Theyve nested under a lawn decoration for years, so I have a soft spot for that species... so i understand your getting another colony ;D I find camponotus ants are very cute because of their size, Id love a size comparison of the banded sugar ants with the giant ones!!
I've been buying them online but the supplier sold out (I bought them all lol). Try "Crystal Plastic Container". I bought a couple of different containers to trial and found that the 'crystal' key word you want!
I've been using glass and acyclic sheets for the screens from IKEA and Target. The plastic boxes are from online, but they're mostly sold out (I tried to buy more!). Try searching crystal plastic container
Hey ant keeper you should feed them coloured honey try green and their gasters can stretch and be really big but not as big as honey pot ants but they are still cool
@@TheAntKeeper also you should do something like the Color of the week and we all comment what Color we want and you can make a short part of the video showing us. I think that would be cool and I am trying to save up money to buy a ant colony because I caught most of mine what is a cool ant you suggest
Nice! I love intrepidus not because they're so huge, but more because of their funny looking legs. And congrats on 2k! For the giveaway I think you should give away a colony of some sort. Maybe a Polyrhachis sp. because they're not so rare you can't give them away but they're rare enough that not everyone has them.
@@TheAntKeeper Haha, I went for an early scout last week in the Hawkesbury region NSW and found a spider ant worker wondering around, waiting until nuptial flight season to go back and hopefully find a queen or two Also came across multiple colonies in a different location in the hawkesbury region, Green headed ant, golden tailed spiny ant, giant brown bullant, jumping jack bullant or giant wingless bullant, jumper bullant, banded sugar ant, these 7 colonies were on the same trail roughly all within 100m to 200m of each other. so ill be busy this spring haha
Hey, another nice video :) I have a question, i only started this hobby myselkf and bought a few colonies like 3 weeks ago and i see that sometimes the ants barely move, and i that in your videos as well, is there a particular reason to that? At first i thought im doing something wrong, but i guess its something normal?
could that be a defensive reaction to light? Or they ar ejust taking a nap at day time? In my 5 colonies i see only messor sctructor always moving, while others can even appear dead if you dont look closely, but then something happens and they are super lively. Interesting.
As a name suggestion for your colony, maybe slightly creative with the black rooks? Since the roook being the massive chess piece and their color, that would be an ok name.
Hey! Thanks for the name suggestion! In answer to your question, the answer may vary depending on the species. All of my Camponotus sp. are nocturnal, so they're not active during the day, making them motionless whenever I view them. Perhaps your colonies cold be the same
Congratulations for 2000 subscribers For giweaway you can giweaway some nests maybe some acsesories or gift cards maybe you can try something other something unusual (Sorry if i wrote something wrong i em not from english speaking country ) PS: amazing video
@@TheAntKeeper they love there honey and like to have a very humid place and they really don't like exploring much so don't give them a too big outworld. they seem to also like to eat ant jelly and I've noticed in the wild they make there nests look a lot like bull ant nests witch I think is pretty cool they are also just as aggressive so watch out as they love to climb tweezers (already been bitten by a major man it hurts)
I love campos, i have never had a problem with keeping them and they've mostly all been succesfull
They're definitely an easy genus to Love!
The ant keeper when you said the highly requested honeypot ants where you thinking about me haha I asked alot

Wow. Still an interesting experience!
@Ants and More I dont recommend digging up colonies (that are large) if you do it should be only small colonies like if they have 10 or less workers
