“OZification” of words is a feature of Wizard of Oz, also kept in the musical… For us “English as a second language” folks, I LOVED it. I did it all the time as a kid! (occasionally still do)
@@TheConfusedAdipose Wicked is my favourite musical of all time, so I know I will! And I have to tell you, I watch your Doctor Who commentary on a regular basis. You're ADORABLE (please don't take offense by that....just had to say it).
I didnt even think thats how it could come off being really quick for madame morrible, but it makes sense, but throughout the entire movie since she was observing her in the courtyard to training her and using her anger as fuel for her magic really puts into perspective she had ulterior motive the whole time
Great review. Literally anything I had an issue with was just a nitpick because it was all SO GOOD!!!! I hated the lighting during Dancing Through Life though…. too much glare
I really liked the extended defying gravity though I read at least one comment that agreed with your take. And yes the ozified words are in the stage production.
One interesting little tidbit of _Wicked_ trivia: In the photograph at 1:39, we see Munchkinland, but also in the distance is the set under construction for Shiz University, which took 2 months to complete, including a massive waterway too accomadate sailboats as they droped off the students. As mentioned, there is CG. It _is_ a fantasy film, but this production built practical sets on a scale we haven't seen in years.
*sees you glance up to the corner mentioning return to oz, sees the video and realizes that retrospective was from you* OH CRAP...i did not know you liked oz XD
I hope, some day, when you get to be showrunner for Doctor Who, you remember the outtake from this video and hire Cynthia Erivo to play herself in a special called "Cynthia Erivo and Gallifrey".
You ain't lyin, baby. It's incredibly rare I thirst over an actor or rock star, but that young man has an engraved invitation to eat whichever brand of crackers he pleases up in my bed.
Just saw the movie tonight (on the 21st) and I was immediately shocked by the lack of color and contrast. All of the outdoor scenes that should have been spectacular, were so washed out, and the close-up scenes set outdoors had so much white contrast behind them, that it faded those as well. It was immediately noticeable and immediately disappointing. I thought the performances of the two leads were both very good. Oscar worthy? Glad I don't have to make that decision. I don't believe that Jeff Goldblum or Michelle Yeoh brought anything to the film except for name recognition. Any other good actor or actress could have done a better job in my opinion. Especially Jeff Goldblum, who only knows how to be Jeff Goldblum. It wouldn't bother me if it didn't win ANY awards just for the fact that the powers that be, divided it into two parts. I don't buy the quote that Jon Chu felt there was just too much "vision" to fit into one film. What an obvious money grab by the producers and the studio … Hollywood greed at its worst. You can't convince me that there wouldn't be a big enough audience that would prefer to sit for a 3 1/2 hour-version, to see one completed version of Wicked. If they can't do it in 3 1/2 hours, then forget about it. I just saw it tonight, and it didn't leave me with an ounce of anticipation, for seeing the second half. Especially now knowing how bad the first half looked. Unbelievable they couldn't come close to the magical technicolor of the Wizard of Oz from 85 years ago. Guess that was a "modern, creative decision". Cheers ... ☮️ Steve in Dallas
it was not hidden overtly, anyone paying any real attention knew it was 2 parts years ago. The advertisement didn't focus on that for the exact reason you mention, too many people will skip it and wait til the next part comes out a year later. Movie theaters need to sell tickets. Movies cost money, they have to make money or they can't exist. They made the right choice. This movie deserved to be two parts and people can easily see it's 2 parts if they simply Google it.
Awwww man, I can't wait, after seeing this in the theatre a few times and playing the soundtrack until my car cd player stopped working imma going to enjoy this so much 🥲

Also in Gregory Macguire’s book. The language is English but just different enough to hint that Oz is a strange and different place.
The “Ozification” of words is absolutely in the stage show
“life’s more painless for the brainless” is such clever foreshadowing
Thus was a great review! I'm seeing it Sunday. CAN'T WAIT!
Cheers! Hope you enjoy😁

fiyero got kicked out of schools a lot so i guess it makes sense he’s a bit older?
they actually turned down the ozification of words by a lot! iconic ones were missing such as the one in the very beginning "innuendo, outnuendo"
I didnt even think thats how it could come off being really quick for madame morrible, but it makes sense, but throughout the entire movie since she was observing her in the courtyard to training her and using her anger as fuel for her magic really puts into perspective she had ulterior motive the whole time
I think it’s also taking bits from the book about elphabas childhood

We, the gay men of the world, are cut to the quick that you never remember the name of Jonathan Bailey! He is a treasure to us all.

Return to Oz was the best film
6:41. There's no way I'm watching Dear Evan Hansen. Such a mistake uaing CGI for him. Just get a young actor, it's not difficult.
That movie is what made me so skeptical about every single musical movie to come out since
@connorgoren7615 IDC, about the music from the show being used. The movie looks bad.
spoiler free, eh? lol
Ticks me off that they did not advertise or speak about the movie being a PART 1.
The KNOW that a lot of people will NOT go to a "Part 1" Movie.
Well yeah that's why they DIDN'T advertise it
It's been labeled a part one since it got announced. They hid it later on like Dune to make it feel like its own film.
I saw deathly hallows both parts and I wanna see part 2 of wicked plus I didn’t see the 🎭 show b4 but wanna c that

I bet it is rubbish
Based on what?
Slipped in a few spoilers there. 😮
