Its true but there are good movies that are not appealing, in the same way are books that are badly written but have great story (fondation, dune, a lot of mistery novels)
True. This movie is not that though. It has some bad visuals, and some harsh lighting, but it also has amazing visuals and some really interesting choreography and editing that really bring the musical numbers to life. Saying it relies solely on the performers is just plain ignorant and needlessly radical.
I agree, the lighting really distracts the visionary component and I wished it carried a bit of the technicolor of the 1939 film. It was missing that lighting but I really think the performances and some of the songs are great, I just wished the lighting is enhanced. Great vid and have a good week 👍
I love your fearless critique of this movie! You GO Film Drunk!!! Be Fearless and Daring on what you your honest take is and do not sell out to the pressure from the herd.
Not really. Mostly comments like, “What does this even mean?” Which, tbh, simply saying a movie looks like an MCU movie is vague. Now, if he said, “Wicked looks like it takes place in the void in an MCU project” that would’ve made more sense.
The characters that aren't the two leads on the poster are woefully underwritten in the musical as well, really my only complaint I can recall walking out of an evening I quite enjoyed is "I don't know why the talking animals were jews or maybe gays? Along with a side-plot of I guess even wheelchair people can be bad, which was not on my bingo card." The core story it tells is good, but the rest could use a re-write.
@@BrownsBacker Well you are a really charismatic person that is going to bring a lot of people around to your point of view with your decisive criticism and analysis. Yay!

I so appreciate this honest take, dude! 👏 I felt a bit more disconnected from the movie than most at my promo screening, too. I did like it a biiiit more than you, but I will say: I agree with ya that some characters fell completely flat. Not sure this needed to be two parts, either.
I think it did need two parts because of the tonal shift between the first and second half The second half takes place during the same timeline as the wizard of Oz Doing all of that in one film would have felt like too much I think this adaptation makes even more sense to split than Dune That refers act one like a prequel There are also too many characters and plot that really come to a head in Act Two Nessarose being one I don't think the developments in 2 would work in one movie They would feel too rushed Some fans of the play have complained about Elphaba and Fiyero being rushed and not really feeling that development it kind of just happens

You're not wrong, but MCU has been the biggest influence on modern movies for good reason. It's the bad storytelling that people object to. To complain about color saturation or less than optimal lighting when you have a powerful story that resonates and two phenomenal (not in the superlative) performances your critique pales in comparison.
as someone who is a huge fan of the musical i am sorry to tell you that i don’t think part 2 is coming to save the day… wicked is notorious for having a significantly weaker second act to a phenomenal act 1 both musically and plot wise that it’s actually so ridiculous that they decided to split them up
I haven’t seen the movie yet so I might come back and give a different opinion. But from the trailers and the visuals I was hoping this movie would flop. Then after seeing ‘behind the scenes’ clips of the production I got pissed at the vfx/cgi/colouring/compositing team because they essentially fucked up their end of the work and most people won’t bother coming out to see great performances in a sea of disgusting visuals.
