I would agree with most of your choices except for the Buce and substitute Water Sprite, either Cornuta or Thallictroides. We're talking beginners here and although neophytes can grow Buce, it's not a real rewarding plant for fast growth, and frankly, remember, beginner's plants, feeds semi instant gratification.. So Water Sprite can be floated and pile up huge amounts of pups and half grown floaters, the roots are really fine, long and woolly and when grown in substrate, ( remove 1/2 of the root length and place it in the gravel with the crown about 1~2 inches above the substrate layer..) it can form enormous tree like growths with many levels of young plants both attached mid level and floating. It's like an apartment complex for shrimp.

Buce just happens to survive in low light and has metallic shimmers to it... so many new hobbyists visually enjoy it, even if it doesn't thrive and proliferate. Great selection. I'll name one many may not associate with shrimp. Crinum Calamistratum. Shrimp seem to love walking along them picking at them as they go. I guess because it's a slow grower it presents lots of grazing opportunities.

Aquatic plant history...thats what im researching. I want to find edible or medicinal compounds in aquarium plants...there's gotta be research into it (i haven't found much yet, but i hope it's out there)
Hi. Hope your fine. I like the pearl weed. I planted it and put root tabs in first. It grew and spread so much I ended taking it out and making it a floating plant and it’s great. I think that head start really made it healthy!
I’m just setting up a small 10g shrimp only tank. I just put 1.5 - 2 inches of aqua soil into it. Is there any benefit of this much substrate? The tanks in this video only appear to have about 1/2 inch. I plan for some water wisteria and/or pearl weed with mosses and susswasertang. Should I decrease my substrate to 1 inch (no shrimp yet)? I’m new to this hobby (more like a sport).
It gives you more room to plant actual plants and have terrain thats not just flat decore. Also it will give you more space for shrimp poop and debris to settle in and become plant food. Lastly it will buffer the water more so that the ph is more stable
Hey Alex, not sure you're still reading this. Just wondering i got (Dwarf) Banana plants, can i use the dried leafs as food for shrimps? Dropp them from time to time into my tank? Hard to find any info on it... Any idea? Cheers!
I assume they would provide a good surface area for bacteria and biofilm, however the leaves themselves may be a bit tough until they break down for a few weeks in the water. Also add dried leaves ideally, because fresh green leaves have chlorophyll which actually ends up being slightly toxic to many creatures

@@TCS_Aquatics fluval stratum, eco complete mixed. Lots of plants. Don't know pH. Think it's softer water and that's my issue. Tho I used Pennsylvania spring water (hard) and they lived for a while. Fed them well, great filtration, never would breed. I do keep with fish but they're plenty of places to hide and the fish are well fed.

It's not working for me, it's not right to continue the genocide of the neo population coming through my lfs. It's not the lfs either, they come in healthy, and actually very high end. Some are 5* strains. Got 6 green neo's very brilliant yellow stripe on their backs. Perfect genetics from that strain... They lasted about a week.
@@ugnuggets try just planting a tank and not doing a dammmmn thing to it after haha... no equilibrium, only lots of plants, a fairly neutral soil (or make sure it's very old)... i recommend buying brightwell substrate. I love it (its a tiny pricey, but it works) ... or 9 parts gravel and 1 part crushed coral ...or about 1lb crushed coral per 10 gallon (if you have soft water) . My guess is your actually giving them too much calcium and carbon and their shells are squishing them at molt that or there is some sort of copper, aluminium or lead in your water...or perhaps ammonia. Even 4 or 5 ppm of copper will kill shrimp. Keep the temperature above 65 but below 77 ... 74 is ideal. And when you use dechlorinator, only use a few drops and swirl it around the bucket before adding the water change...or hell, get a 5 gallon and go to Walgreens, spend 5 dollars on drinking water and fill your tank.... i did that for one tank and figured out that caridina shrimp had been dying due to my water being to low in minerals , but i had been overdosing the gh+ as well as the stress coat or seachem prime . Last advice is get your dirtiest and oldest tank...preferably a 10 or 20 gallon and toss at least 12 shrimp in... everytime i start a colony with less than 10 shrimp, it never takes off well...they don't breed much and mothers miscarriage after late term in being visibly berried. Anyhow, toss the mean fish or even all fish out of that old planted tank and plop the shrimp in.... then dont do anything... feed them hikari crab and invertebrate food pellets or hikari algae wafers ever 2 or 3 days....im talking half a wafer for 10 shrimp, max... and do only water top offs- no real water changes (preferably with RO or a gallon jug of bottled water for the first 2 months (should be less than 6 or 7 gallons i would assume)....but see if doing nothing for the shrimp works. Ive seen people try and try to get shrimp going and it fails due to having soooo many variables. Keep it painfully simple and see if the neos or malawas, ghost, amono or tiger caradina shrimp survive when you do that. Goodluck buddy
for me the problem with shrimp plant videos is, everyone is rocking green plants, I'm more of a reds Orange yellow plants, it's trial and error as most are not shrimp safe
