Cuz back then brionac didn't have a 1nc per turn effect which means you can discard many cards you want from your hand to clear the field. That's why it's banned.

@@inusan2198 burst impact is pretty good though, literally destroys "all cards on the field except Burstinatrix and then whoever has the most cards receives the most damage. given its not target and destroys all spell and traps and doesn't kill one card you have its pretty good, its just she's not played very often.
One of my favorite bouncing strats is Kaiju-ing an opponent’s monster, then summoning another Kaiju and Neo-Spacian Grand Mole to attack and get my Kaiju back.
I recently did this with Metaion, the TImelord: The opponent used nonsense cards like Chixiao so I Kaiju-ed their monster and then returned it to my hand by crashing into it with Metaion to repeat the strategy once other nonsense cards like Baronne de Fleur are summoned.
You're right about Burst Return. It was an anime card used in an incredibly specific situation. Jaden ended up in a duel against a girl that had a crush on him. Her deck revolved around a monster that would make her opponent's monsters fall in love with it, mechanically switching control of her opponent's monsters permanently. It was implied that this sort of effect just worked on male monsters though. So Jaden's counter-strat was to summon the one girl in his deck to bring his male heroes back to their senses. That took the form of Burst Return. That scene even involved Burstinatrix chewing out the other heroes
It was honestly hilarious to see her chewing them out. Though, it makes me want to see a "Sparkwoman" card because that was mentioned (at least in the dub, IIRC).
burst return was part of my favorite moment of the gx anime basically jaiden was dueling against a girl that had a monster that was somekind of fairytale princess that have the effect of not being destroyed by battle and the monsters that battle her get a maiden counter that makes them change control because they "fall in love" with the princess and decide to side with her jaiden attacked her and lost both avian and sparkman to her effect and there were this scenes where the monsters are talking, the princess saying things like "ouch that hurts! why did you attacked me?" with puppy eyes and avian and sparkman were acting like badly written soap opera gentlemen saying things like "im so sorry, oh you are so beautiful i swear i will be your shinning knight and will by your side forever" or "oh mylady please forgive me i dont know why attacked such a beautiful woman, i swear from now on i will protect you with my life" so then jaiden summons burstinatrix and activates burst return and burstinatrix says "hey you two morons come back here right now or i will tell all the deck about this!" then avian and sparkman lose the counters waking up from her charm and went back to jaidens hand, avian saying "what i was thinking? i dont want to be married yet!" and sparkman "omg my wife is gonna kill me" jaiden do some other stuff and ends up winning the duel i watched it years ago so i dont remember all the details but its still one of my favorite episodes of all time from the yugioh anime i remember laughing my ass off as a kid when i first watched it
Actually Burst Return was used TWICE in the anime during incredibly specific moments where it would up being helpful. The first was when Jaden has a couple of his E-heroes taken by his opponent so he used that to get them back. The second time was so he could get his E-heroes off the field so he could use a different card that required Burstinatrix so he could nuke the field... namely "Burst Impact", which is actually a pretty solid card, but it hasn't been released irl (playable in Tag Force though).
Your perception was correct; Burst Return was used in a specific episode of Yu-Gi-Oh GX to facilitate one, specific blowout play and nothing else. I have no idea what they were thinking with some of the card design in GX

Then it was used in conjunction with another anime/game exclusive card, Burst Impact, so that the other HERO monsters wouldn't be destroyed. It stopped making appearances after that though, at least in actual play. It would be seen as a filler card or in flashbacks, but it wouldn't be seeing any more play because the protag got the Neo Spacians, and Grand Mole was just more useful. Anyways, Top 10 cards whose name ends in "X" would be an interesting and gimmicky list.
1:35 The weather painter archetype is really good in bouncing the opponents monsters and they return in the standby phase so they can keep doing it over and over again.
Burst Return was most likely to be used in conjunction with Burst Impact, which nuke the entire field beside Burst Lady, safely bouncing your E-HEROes back. But Konami thought Burst Impact was too powerful and never made it for the TCG/OCG. Nowadays the power level might be acceptable but Burst Lady is so niche that there's no point. Still a chance to see it released in an Animation Chronicles tho

Dotedotengu does have a bit of niche use, but the main card that would have fallen to it ended up getting banned. As it says possession, and not control, it will work when discarded from your hand by your opponent. This allows it to serve as a hard check to Topologic, or any other extra deck monster that goes for the hand by hard punishing them for it.
Penguin Soldier was extremely annoying back in the olden days. I loved using it myself, but when it got used on you while you had a couple beaters on the field? Total advantage killer.

During that duel because of one of her monsters, all of Jadens heroes fell in love with that monster and couldn’t attack anymore and he used that card to get rid of the “love counters” that were placed on his other heroes that made them fell in love with Blairs monster

That is exactly what happened with Burst Return. Basically, the opponent had a weak indestructible monster which gave counters to monsters which battled with it, and would then take control of those monsters. So Jaden played Burstinatrix and Burst Return in order to get Avian and Sparkman back to his hand.
Dark Scorpion- Chick the Yellow can still allow you to bounce field spell cards, equip cards and/or trap cards back to the hand. It's still really niche, but I suspect that Konami could accidentally make it broken with another combo (if they aren't very carefully avoiding just that).
Future list suggestion; top 10 quick and "quick like" effects that are not quick-play spells. Shortened version of the list: #10, has an effect for the sake of having an effect and is part of an archetype in name only. #9, needs Spell Speed 4 to see any play, because it's "current" level rather than "original" level. #8, monster in a rank 4 archetype that has a garbage effect that appears to be a +1 in card advantage when in reality does nothing to advance the game state by selecting a set card that will be set again to return to the opponent's hand. #7, a little too restricted to be usable. #6, needs destruction protection to meet the activation requirement for FLIP effects. #5, no inherent condition to set itself from the hand. #4, product of the era/master rule it was released in. #3, abusable effect because of a banned card, but is terrible by itself. #2, should have a DNA Transplant-like effect included. #1, potentially game changing for a specific mirror match, in an even more specific game state.
He did that with the video on cards that were much better in the anime than the game. He said that Ra basically had 20 effects in the anime, so you could basically do literally anything with the card.

So yeah, Burst Return was an anime card in the episode that featured Maiden in Love. Long story short, Jaden's monsters were taken by Blair and he had to use the effect to win the game. - The fact we see Bubbleman, Avian, and Burstinatrix all get personified in this episode is hilarious. Like, on its own the episode is gold.
Burst Return actually was used during literally 1 turn on 1 duel during the whole GX saga because Judai's monsters were being stoled because he was kinda stupid and couldn't stop attacking.
Hade-Hane doesn't need to be tribute set to get its effect. You can special it in face down defense position by the effect of the Subterror link. It's still awful, but you don't need to invest that much in it.
Top 10 "Cycles" of Cards Cycles being a borrowed term from MtG that I'm not sure YGO uses about cards that all share a strong theme (same level, stat spread, similar effects, often in the same archetype) that span different colors (or in this case, Attributes/Types). Examples being the Adult Dragon Rulers, the various Mirror Forces, the Mega Monarchs, the Charmers, the Signer Dragons, etc.
Unless I'm reading it wrong, Black Cat doesn't target, which could make it a wee bit more useful than Penguin Soldier in niche scenarios. Also, an effect like Dotedotengu's is far worse than than something like Hade Hane because at least Hade Hane has the potential to bounce a lot of cards. Even if Dotedotengu does go off, your still not getting any advantage and it can't even remove boss monsters consistently because it targets
Dark Cat with White Tail does target. It just has really old, pre-PSCT text because it's only ever been printed twice, and the second time was in 2005.

Dark Cat with White tail in duel links with World Legacy Pawn is such a punishing combo on a raccoon deck that I feel it's just wrong for you to place it on a terrible card list. It literally bounces two monsters your opponent controles and can do it again since it bounces itself preventing the opponent from summoning more than 1 monster without dealing with the cat. Look up Dark Cat With White Tail duel links and you'll see what I mean. It's such a fun deck.
Top Ten Worst Level 4 Monsters with 2000+ ATK, cards with 2000 or more attack that have downsides to make up for having such high attack powers. Examples including Princess Pikeru and Princess Curran, Muscle Medit, Chainsaw Insect, The Unfriendly Amazon, Panther Warrior, Gaia Soul the Combustible Collective, and Giant Kozaky.

Wall Shadow is the worst of them all. It gets only DEF with no way to use it to attack. If it worked like Cocytus or a SHS that would not be overwhelming even for the time.
You know actually gravekeeper guard is actually pretty good because he is a part of the gravekeeper archetype whose effect is : If this card was flipped from face down to face up target one monster your opponent controls return it to the hand also you can easily search him in gravekeeper deck which makes it a good card

Jaden used Burst Return so he could use Burst Impact. You can activate this card when an "Elemental Hero Burstinatrix" card is face-up on your side of the field. All monsters on the field except "Elemental Hero Burstinatrix" are destroyed, and the destroyed monster's controller receives damage equal to the number of monsters destroyed x 300. Sadly its Anime only

Long story short, Jaden's monsters were taken by Blair and he had to use the effect to win the game. - The fact we see Bubbleman, Avian, and Burstinatrix all get personified in this episode is hilarious. Like, on its own the episode is gold.

Flip effects trigger on attack operation before the damage step which means they don't have to survive
Hirumaredx you do make some of the most interesting lists, but you seriously gotta change the background music, It's way to foreboding

Burst Return actually was used during literally 1 turn on 1 duel during the whole GX saga because Judai's monsters were being stoled because he was kinda stupid and couldn't stop attacking.
He used it against Amnael as well near the end of the season.
Hade-Hane doesn't need to be tribute set to get its effect. You can special it in face down defense position by the effect of the Subterror link. It's still awful, but you don't need to invest that much in it.

Cycles being a borrowed term from MtG that I'm not sure YGO uses about cards that all share a strong theme (same level, stat spread, similar effects, often in the same archetype) that span different colors (or in this case, Attributes/Types).
Examples being the Adult Dragon Rulers, the various Mirror Forces, the Mega Monarchs, the Charmers, the Signer Dragons, etc.
As bad as Burst Return is, it still gave us a funny as heck moment in GX.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, Black Cat doesn't target, which could make it a wee bit more useful than Penguin Soldier in niche scenarios. Also, an effect like Dotedotengu's is far worse than than something like Hade Hane because at least Hade Hane has the potential to bounce a lot of cards. Even if Dotedotengu does go off, your still not getting any advantage and it can't even remove boss monsters consistently because it targets
Dark Cat with White Tail does target. It just has really old, pre-PSCT text because it's only ever been printed twice, and the second time was in 2005.
Not that it's important, but I think the term bounce comes from Waterfront Bouncer in MTG, which has the effect of "unsummon" on it.

All I got out of this is that Dark Cat would be nice in Krawler decks, and Kaiser might have niche uses in Fire Kings.
Burst return was actually used against Blair Flannigan when she kept stealing elemental hero monsters with an anime only card.
Looking at the opposite end of this idea, I wish I saw people use Cyberse Quantum Dragon more. I just think it's neat.

back then I used Jurrac Iguanon in Jurrac Deck in Duel Link, being able to return set card, so use it bounce opponent set Trap kinda good.

Dark Cat with White tail in duel links with World Legacy Pawn is such a punishing combo on a raccoon deck that I feel it's just wrong for you to place it on a terrible card list. It literally bounces two monsters your opponent controles and can do it again since it bounces itself preventing the opponent from summoning more than 1 monster without dealing with the cat.
Look up Dark Cat With White Tail duel links and you'll see what I mean. It's such a fun deck.
Top Ten Worst Level 4 Monsters with 2000+ ATK, cards with 2000 or more attack that have downsides to make up for having such high attack powers. The whole point is to remove My monsters From the field or hand So if I Summon electrum I'll have a new full host of Fusion Monsters I could go into
Ok but Dice-nied is actually hilarious. Imagine facing off against a combo deck like dragon link and every time they summon they have to wait for you to resolve this card and every once in a while you can bounce their combo pieces 😂

It gets only DEF with no way to use it to attack.
If it worked like Cocytus or a SHS that would not be overwhelming even for the time.
Burst return is BUSTED in sealed format where you can only play that booster pack with a bunch of heros in it and basically nothing else

You know actually gravekeeper guard is actually pretty good because he is a part of the gravekeeper archetype whose effect is : If this card was flipped from face down to face up target one monster your opponent controls return it to the hand also you can easily search him in gravekeeper deck which makes it a good card

Jaden used Burst Return so he could use Burst Impact. You can activate this card when an "Elemental Hero Burstinatrix" card is face-up on your side of the field. All monsters on the field except "Elemental Hero Burstinatrix" are destroyed, and the destroyed monster's controller receives damage equal to the number of monsters destroyed x 300. Sadly its Anime only
