Thank you for making this video, I never understood why so many kitchens have 90 degree corner cabinets when a 45 is so accessible . Great space for small appliances. We had our cabinets custom made for our current kitchen renovation getting cabinet lighting installed as well . Lights that turns on and off when you open a close the door for that large space . I know I am going to enjoy working with this corner much better than the horrible 90 degree . An conduction cooktop will be installed in the Center of the cabinet to maximize the use of that large area . Thanks for showing how this is done .

But wouldn't you know it, they have accumulated more stuff they presently have stacked in a corner. So.. a corner cabinet will help out this situation a great deal! Thank you for this video!
working on the same thing ordered some custom cabinets no face frame the cabinet maker of course did not provide hinges and i think made the doors to wide. I will never use them again because the lack of experience is apparent. I had originally decided not to use them cause I could see it but the shop i wanted to use was booked way out. anyhow attempting to figure out and fix the issues.
That is a very large corner cabinet. I have had many issues in the past getting a cabinet that size through a doorway into a house. I see that your cabinets do not go to the floor and are placed on top of a 4-inch or 4 and 1/2 in substructure as a base. So the cabinet is 30.5 in tall. Even so it can be challenging tipped on its side to fit through some typical door openings. Also. Quite often we have had to install shelves in corner cabinets while they are being assembled because you cannot install them after the carcass is built.... the shelf is huge! Other than that it looks like terrific quality work
Very good point! I was fortunate to have an exterior door leading into the kitchen that was about 31" wide, so it just barely made it! Otherwise, I would have had to assemble it in the kitchen, which would have been much more difficult.
I built a corner cabinet very much like yours and like you ran into all kinds of problems with the hinge. I settled on a 170 degree hinge from Blum but it was trial and error to find the right place for the boss hole and the plate.
I always cut off the back corner, that goes into the corner of the wall, at a 45°, too. Come back about 6" from that inside corner. That way it fits into the corner a lot better. When taping and mudding the drywall on inside corners the wall always gets built out just a little, so a square cornered cabinet hits the inside corner of the wall before the rest of your back panel touches. Is that explanation clear as mud? 🤔
I don’t think I’d make that one only because it seems really deep. The doors tight. It’s good work regardless. We are rebuilding our house from Hurricane Michael & cabinets & that kind of thing is on the list.
Just a suggestion ... make yourself a drill jig for future positioning of the hinge location. I’ve never been to fond of non face frame cabinets. I’ve learned over time to make the jigs for hole location. Take care

@@nhannguyen-sr9vh or you can glue it and then paint it. Which is what any reasonable person does. Brad nails alone will not be nearly as strong as PVA glue is either. Also if your joinery is tight enough paint on two surfaces parts just won't fit. Taping a project like this off in order to paint it is complete horseshit.
I was thinking that he needs to practice painting with a sprayer more. Can't tell for sure on camera but what little we did see it didn't look horrible.
I would have probably added a angled piece of wood near the edge of the cabinet an then mounted the doors to it, With the angled trim on the inside, this would have allowed the door to open much more, Or put the trimmed piece on the door an it would have been out of the way when the doors would open,
How do you like the Sherwin Williams Kem Aqua? Is this something you only use for the inside of your cabinets or can this be used for doors as well. I plan on building my own Kitchen from scratch and want to paint everything. However I'm conflicted if I should Pre-Finish the Plysheets before I even make my first cut or finish it when everything is assembled.
I'm glad I discovered the Kem Aqua Plus finish and highly recommend it. The Surfacer dries very quickly and, with a light sanding, provides a smooth surface for the Kem Aqua Plus. The Kem Aqua Plus also dries quickly to a durable finish. I've used it on cabinets, doors, and drawer fronts, and it's a good product for all of those applications. If I were making cabinets, I'd lean toward finishing them at the end to give me the chance to conceal any production defects or abrasions caused by handling. On the other hand, it might make things simpler to spray on the Surfacer and one coat of Kem Aqua Plus prior to making your cuts, and then apply a second coat of Kem Aqua Plus once everything's assembled. Good luck with your project!
7:50 It might be best to glue that thing up in the kitchen where it is going to be installed since it is so huge...sideways it's 34.5"..the typical home's doors are 32" and this would not fit thru them unless you live in a mansion and in that case I'm sure you could afford not to need to make them. I'm thinking about buying a cheap home depot version for only $127 then using it it to use as a template to make my own and only use the wood (birch) door and face frame..I would then refund it after using it as templates. The 36" wide version rather then the larger 42" as I have a small kitchen and little countertop space.
I typically make the toe kick separately rather than it being integrated into the cabinet. That makes it easy to install because I can shim and level the toe kick first so that it serves as a platform that I can sit all the cabinets on and not have to worry about leveling each cabinet with shims. The other advantage of that method is that the cabinets are less than 32" when turned on their sides so you can get them through a standard doorway.
i make two vertical posts either side at 90 degrees to the front opening and the open wide hinges and it works just fine plus i put shelf in before assembly. ps i don't think you need to have a solid top when you are putting a work top on it.
They do make hinges for 45-degree doors, Lee Valley has them, they're called cross corner hinges, I get Hettich brand hinges from my supplier, but the Blum ones are pretty much the same thing. It's not a hinge I use a lot, but they do work good
I didn't video that part, but it's a relatively simple process to make the toe kick out of leftover 3.5" strips of plywood or 2x4s and then just shim them to be level.

As how much people hates IKEA they do have hinges at 185°. The quality is ok but would help tackle this little problem. Ofcourse no install instructions but with a test setup your be fine. Or take some measurements at IKEA.
I don't think I'd like those doors opening only 90° (~135° counting the 45°). It really leaves a narrow opening for such a cavernous space behind the doors. I get it that the shape and design comes with certain limitations though.
Next time put a filler on each side cut at 45 angle that gives u a 90. No problema before u uput the finish on so it looks all one piece also ia that oak plywood because maple plywood is better for pait grade
Its not easy to build a corner cabinets. It turn out pretty good though. 90° door opening is not a big deal. I my self still figuring out how to fulfill my wife's intention to shift current stove in the corner. May be you can show how in your next video! Regards...

It's actually from Harbor Freight, so not a high-end sprayer, but one of their better ones. The brand name is Chicago Pneumatic. It has worked well for me, but I'm by no means a professional when it comes to painting.
hi just put a strip of plywood at each side screwed from the top and bottom and through the centre through to the plywood side about 90 or 100mm 90 degrees with the front of the cabinet and hang the doors off of this i have done this several times as i used to be a kitchen maker befor having to give up work due to illness also in ireland we use blum hinges that you can put on to the gable as you were doing but they are especially for corner units like yours and the doors open to about 90 or 100 degrees great video and i hope this helps
Thanks for the tips. I chose not to use Blum hinges for this project to save a bit of money. Maybe I should have considered them for this application because they're definitely great hinges. Maybe I was being penny-wise and pound-foolish.
@@Woodumakeit no you were not been that way at all we all do things to suit our budgets but the plywood strip down the sides would give a much easier job for you to do as i know even the blum hinge plates can be difficult to put on an assembled cabinet i used to always have the plates on the gables before assembly i had a set up for boring all the hinges the same distance from the top and the bottom of the door so it was easy to make a hinge template for to mount the hinge plates on the gables i know you painted the interiors but the plates could be masked off mostly always i used melemine finished mdf in the gables so it was a little easier to have the plates on first as i had no painting to do but for ease of use if you are doing another corner cabinet try the plygood strips to make a mini gable for the plates all the best

My electric bill is running about $30 per month higher than last year. I've been keeping my garage fairly warm this year and I run the heater most days around the clock for glue-ups, epoxy, and finishing, so I don't mind the added expense at all.

@@Marrio49 I'm in Northern Virginia, just outside of DC. It has been running since early November and I set the thermostat to range between 55F and 72F, depending on what I'm doing. The average temperature throughout the winter has probably been around 60F. I only have one 220V outlet, so I need to unplug it when I'm using some of my tools, but that hasn't been a big issue. I'm not really sure how many hours it actually runs, but I can hear it cycling on and off quite frequently throughout the day to maintain the temperature.

I live in Central Maine and the weather up here is like Antarctica so I guess I'm better off with the wood stove and the gas heater. Where Maine is 90% Forest there is plenty of free wood if you willing to put in the time. I use the wood stove to bring the temperature up from about 10 or 15 degrees Fahrenheit to about 50 and then I kick on the gas heater and that maintains the temperature. To bring the temperature up from 10 to 15 degrees up to 60 with the gas heater uses too much gas so it's economically wise for me to use the wood stove in combination with the gas heater thank you. I like your videos as their right to the point without too much over talk as so many of these can be. I have a Festool random orbital with a variable speed on it and I love it have you ever tried one of these?
@@Marrio49 It sounds like you have the right set-up with a wood burning stove. I would definitely have something like that if I was out in the country and had access to the firewood. I have not tried any of the Festool tools, but I know they're supposed to be top of the line.
I put on a granite countertop. I shot a video a couple of months ago with the finished kitchen and a pull-out spice cabinet that I made, but I haven't finished editing it yet. Hopefully I can release that in the next couple of weeks.

Given the wide surface, I think a 1/2 x 1/2 cross beam support would help.

I have a similar corner cabinet my issues is counter to do cover that depth. Any Ideas? That design kind of limits choices other than laminate
I had a granite top made for this kitchen. They cut countertops from large slabs, so covering this depth wasn't a problem for them.
