If you were going to build this as an overhead cabinet in an rv (picture your cabinet set sideways and mounted head height) what would you use to attach each piece?
It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seems to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
THANK YOU John! I built a corner cabinet using this video as a guide. Your woodworking is inspiring and thankful for you sharing your years of experience with us!
I used to work in a cabinet shop and we made a few of these corner cabinets. I really loved the challenge of it. This was a great video and you did a great job. It brought back a lot of memories.
It is great to hear your voice when you're working on your own project. You seem to be happy, perhaps being able to relax. I am glad seeing how you are able to make things seem simple. It amazes me how you demonstrate the craftsmanship you have. Gerry Smith Houston
I build this exact same style corner cabinet for my bottom and upper cabinet (but it didnt sit on the counter) and my wife loved them so much I built another that went on the counter in the corner a little smaller than the upper and painted. Looks awesome and VERY functional. One thing I did on my bottom cabinet was I built a "false side" so when you open the door, there is an extra side 2 inches from the actual side so my wife can stand up her large cookie/pizza sheets. And I made my shelves adjustable because I hate non-adjustable shelves. lol
Just want to say I really appreciate and enjoy your videos. Lot of great tips, too many woodworkers don't think outside the box. I like how you keep things simple but very professional looking. Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you John, another superb video. I'm watching all your kitchen videos in an attempt to spur me into doing my own. It's all the little details that you don't necessarily mention that are worth watching for too, like clamping a batten on an edge to help another part line up, simple, but genius.
I have 2 corner cabinets to replace in my kitchen. This will work fine. The challenge is getting them to mate with the standard cabinets so there's no gaps between them. I'm building my own and getting ideas how to integrate.
Loved this video. This ia a marvelous description of how to build a corner cabinet. I had only one problem with this video. The sides and back is NOT plywood.
I’m really enjoying this series, tips and lessons in economy. I was wondering whether you have any videos on cabinet carcass construction. I saw one you did for the vanity but wanted to see how you tackle the many and varied aspects of a kitchen carcass build. Many thanks..
I've been building my own base cabinets this month. I'm using rudimentary tools, just a circular saw, a table saw, an orbital sander, a drill (and one extravegance: a kreg pocket hole jig). This week I'm going to start building the upper cabinets and I wanted to check out your build first. I'll start with building two, 36" corner cabinets and fill the spaces between with various widths to fill betwwen windows, the range hood, etc. I've been using wood glue but may switch up to PL Premium for some joints (even though Kreg fasteners usually don't recommend glue). I'm not going to make any face frames until the end. I wonder if that's a mistake? Also, you are very brave to allow PL Premium onto your bare skin; I usually have to wear that stuff off over several days ha ha Thanks for the detailed video!
Amazing end results right there. I might try to tackle a similar project without a table saw, that should be interesting. By the way that one nail at 8:44 saying hello cracked me up a little :)
Your kitchen looks amazing and has a lot of great ideas for functionality! I'm going to borrow some of those ideas on my next kitchen. Especially the bread drawer. We leave our bread on top of the toaster oven and every so often someone forgets to move it before using the toaster oven... I think the bread drawer might be a better way.
I've moved the bread out of that drawer, actually, since I too often forgot it was in there. It's now on the middle shelf in the cabinet above the toaster - easier to remember and closer to the action.
Excellent video John! I may have missed this in a past video...but why are you using PL instead of wood glue? Is it because it gives a longer working time?
Mainly because it actually works with edge grain particle board, where liquid wood glue soaks in, disappears and doesn't make a strong glue bond. Also, it's not dripping all over the place when I'm positioning parts.
Ahhh! Makes sense - the lack of dripping is a real benefit as well. Will have to try this on my next build. Thanks again for creating excellent _practical_ content!!
Looking forward for the next part! Can you explain in the next video how you traced with the pen where to shorten the cabinet (in the end of this video)
How are you solving that vertical divider next to the fridge? Does it have an solid maple edge? Does it have feet? Are you fastening it to the wall or just the cabinets? I'm doing one myself soon. Although I don't know how to combine a solid edge with painting or tiling the sides
Can you tell me what kind of plywood that is and what kind of frame lumber you used? I’m trying to make cabinets with cheery front frame but, having a hard time finding cherry plywood. Can you suggest a workaround?
Looking very good John. It is impressive to see the high quality work you can do with basic tools and a 'custom' table saw. What is the spray rig you used? TNX
Do you have a video or anything that goes into more detail on the scribing you did to the counter top? I don't quite get what you did there to make it fit better.
Hi John. I know these build videos are very time consuming for you to make. I can tell you your effort was well worth while. Great video, hope you get lots of views.
A couple of questions. What style of cabinet doors are you going to use, if any? Secondly, when you ran a bead of construction adhesive along the panel joint, it appeared as though the bevel had been cut in the wrong direction. Was this a mistake or was it to save material or was I seeing things? BTW, I'm a big fan of your channels and appreciate how clear your explanations are, thanks.
Not a mistake at all, it has to do with the best, most efficient way to build something that will never be seen (other than in this video) angled like that.
excellent video my friend one of the best i have seen and so well explained.. i need to do base and upper cabinets in my mobile home... what do you recommend for inexpensive wood... i found a guy with a bunch of maple doors and drawers that just need the framework so i was going to build for those and make life less stressful and expensive for me.... i was thinking birch maybe... i just have a small L shape and a counter top will need to go on top of base cabinets of course..im basically going to tear out the old base stuff after taking full measures and just rebuild it with better quality materials as i will only be in this home another yr or two tops.. and i wont be able to sell for much so i am tryign to do all this stuff as cheap and efficient as possible.. thanks for your time and great videos
John why was a gap left at the ceiling? Was it because the sheetrock ceiling wasn't level? Also why do you prefer polymer adhesive over say a titebond or other traditional adhesive.

Beautiful work but my favorite part is that your showing me what People can do with minimal tools! Brilliant
I'm always mesmerized when watching John create stuff.
Simply brilliant.
I'm grateful that he shares this stuff with us.
Thank you John.
Thanks for the video John, I love the simplicity you bring to your projects.
Cool! Congrats on all your new cabinet space. They look great.
Thankyou for continuing to upload. There's something so satisfying and comforting about watching you work on projects. Have also learnt a lot!

Another great project glad your back to you kitchen build. Thanks for sharing!
The kitchen is coming along nicely. You've done an awesome job on it and i can't wait to see the big final reveal! Thanks for sharing, John.
Was looking all day at jointers, now I know I really don't need one. Amazing what you can do with a homemade table saw John.

That sure did look complex but of course you were able to do it without a problem! Going to be a very nice kitchen!
Perfect timing on this video as I am about to begin my kitchen cabinet rebuilding project. Thanks for sharing
Yesss! Awesome video, John, the long wait has paid off! Can't wait for the next ones you promised at the end.

I like most every thing you build John.
Good job on those cabinets, they look good!

Wow, I really like your style. Thanks for the tips.
Nice cabinet John! I really like your first person perspective when filming, I don't think I've seen this style yet! Nice work!
Beautiful 👌

Can you explain in the next video how you traced with the pen where to shorten the cabinet (in the end of this video)
Thank you very much. Good
That was a really good video!

I thoroughly enjoyed that video thank you!
Thank you!
Love the first person POV style, I don't think I've seen another WW video that was all POV
Very nice John. :-)
what type of doors are you going to do? shaker, raised panel? chicken wire?
The kitchen is really looking good John! Thanks for sharing the video with us.😎👍JP

Have any tip on how to make a 22 degree angle kitchen cabinet island with 33" inches farm think and 45" inches each side?
How does the particle board hold up to years of use? Can i pocket hole particle board for joinery? How flat is it typically?
why do you say its "plywood" when it is a particle board ?
