This was so thorough. Your suggestion for the cage is top notch and I'd 100% buy that. Got my ZV1 yesterday and its truly the procrastinators dream. No excuses, just filming. The wide angle lens will be a definite addition.
YOU ARE A GENIUS!! A GENIUS I SAY!! I just bought the ZV1 and I love it bcus I didn’t want to buy a external mic and changing of lens! Just when I thought I had no other options 🙌🏽❤️
Intelligently thought process, expertly researched and practical solutions offered. If nothing else, an exemplar of problem solving. I would agree with the other poster, & your good self that a third party wa lens accessory will materialise. Hopefully too, a company will manufacture a lighter, less expensive and better selfie/support/grip mount. Nevertheless, a well produced video which deserves many views. Stay safe.😀
You are a mad genius! I’ve watched every review from Camera Conspiracies to Jared to Phillip Bloom- everyone said the same thing, and they were right! Your footage with the wide angle was fantastic, and the audio on this thing does not suck. You single handedly could save Sony’s ass and make this truly a vloggers delight. Excellent review- I hope the brass at Sony sends you a check!
That Panasonic adapter looks fantastic!!! Sony just needs to hone up and make their own adapter that is light weight and gets us down to 20mm with active stabilization on. Thanks for the great review! Edit!!! That Panny is EXPENSIVE!!!!! I'm going to have to pass. Right now I have the Zomei x.45 52mm so I'll see how I like it first.
best way to vlog w this camera: sit your arse down have a camera on a tripod position yourself far enough to get a pleasing composition wait for the next version?
Really helpful. I have the Panasonic LX-3 and the lens adapter. Am considering the ZV-1 but was apprehensive about the wide end. This is a good compromise.
When you walked out at the part, was it handheld? I am thinking of buying a Sony ZV1 plus a Joby Telepod in order to achieve a wider background instead of tinkering the camera, but boy that was exciting.
Great Video! I am glad you introduce this product. I will definitely buy the product to upgrade my ZV 1. I just purchased this camera to upgrade my YT footage. I am getting tired of using my phone and i feel like it time to transition. Hopefully this will make my car photography/videography better.
I have used a generic wide angle adapter on the Canon 22mm f/2 lens. Pretty much the same results, image trashed in the corners, but it looks like an exaggerated bokeh outside the focus area. The weight of the adapter can be an issue though. The focus motor and gears have to move almost 4 ounces or 110 grams extra weight.
i have a interview based documentary movie project. I decided before to buy a7 iii , but it is expensive, so professional n complicated. What do you think if i will buy zv1? I planning to shoot slog. This will be my 1st movie and i will participate in festivals.
Ha! Might try the wide-angle adapter for the Ricoh GR II or III. They are made for 28mm equ. (= active stabilization) and an APS-C sensor. They would be sharp as hell.
Great review. I tried it with the wide angle lens and didn’t find it any good. The original lens and the camera ergonomics it self are a great piece of kit for vlogging straight away
Thanks for effort and sharing it with us. If enough people complain about it, Sony will probably replace the lens to 20mm or even wider on the next iteration. By the way, what brand is that wrist strap?
Good stuff and explanations! Do 1 month update on this please. Does the attachment reduce the original motors or not? If it doesn't then it's game changer.
Thanks for the video! Results still are quite good. Only wish you also showed native 24mm view without IS to compare. How much are the accessories you mentioned?
Might also look at this one from B&H.. uses a 52mm thread on the back .. but does offer a 72mm thread in the front for additional filters. Raynox HD-6600PRO52 52mm
Was looking at that one, but the results in this video didn't seem great ua-cam.com/video/XrvzvQlcrxE/v-deo.html. Although, that video was shot indoors. Would be interesting to see how it would perform at higher apertures.
Resourceful video and clever. Unfortunately none of the items you linked are on Amazon any more. Can you update the links with sites where we can purchase items.
yeah this is clever i got the ulanzi wide angle adapter but it is heavy AF and its suspicious to have all that mass torquing the front of lens looking around for other 52mm wide angle adapters but on amazon there's pretty much only "0.43x", "0.45x", and "0.35x" units all look like they came out of the same factories and are rebrands of each other. sad there's not really a good solution that is light
@@benbjurstrom The problem I'd worry about is it may eventually damage the camera since it's heavy. I was thinking something like this little tripod: www.amazon.com/ULANZI-Extension-Samsung-Smartphone-Vlogging/dp/B07ZPS47VC/ref=sr_1_16?dchild=1&keywords=mini+tripod+for+mirrorless+camera&qid=1593004796&sr=8-16
I own a Canon G7X Mark 2 and I needed the Lensmate adapter because the original eye lids for the camera failed. Had two pop out the entire assembly and remove the jammed iris lid (yes ouch operation). But now I have a nice dust cover for the camera. Sadly, the camera itself is getting old.
I can't help thinking that putting the camera on a selfie stick would be a better option than sticking a heavy lens attachment to a delicate lens barrel. Let's face it, unless you need the tripod option of the GP-VPT2BT grip, it doesn't really offer that much other than the movie ''go'' button.
after watching your video on the panasonic adapter I found another one online. only able to purchase on ebay or alibaba express which is the Zomei "ultra thin" wide angle 0.43x. Roughly $25 and is has a slimmer profile as it's just 1 glass element that looks like a simple glass magnifier.
Is the Panasonic adapter you used the the one works the best? I couldn’t find the same converter available anywhere. However I’m reluctant to use wide converters made by small companies and manufacturers like those you would find on amazon. Is there another converter preferably from Panasonic that you know would work similarly well? Please help
I have been watching videos about this wide angle lens options all day! I'm glad I found your video. The only issue is I have a very small recording space. Do you think if the Sony ZV1 can capture a 145 inch wide shot from 63 inches away with the wide angle lens?
wondering if you can use the vlog handhold...and a wireless mic at the same time. i bought the vlog accessories and also bought the picomic and was hoping to use them both if possible.
great video! , i bought the Ulanzi wide angle that comes with a Macro lens as well. I'm getting the camera and the lens tomorrow! yesss! i know, 1yr later but I'm sure that what 'im buying is legit. I saw many reviews on the ZV1 and they all state that this is an excellent camera. To me is going to be a great secondary one, since I have my a7iii with a 24mm gmaster. its just that I don't want to carry that one everywhere I go. :) thanks for sharing!
It looks great, but it seems like it would be easier to get the Lumix G100 with a wide-angle lens if you are in a region that sells just the body. I know the ZV-1 does a few things the G100 does not do like Showcase Mode.
Thanks for this vid. If you get a chance, you should test out the Zomei .45X wide angle adapter and see how it compares to the other two wide angle adapters you have.
Thanks for the video. I have the LX-3 and a similar adapter which I used with UV and ND filters for outdoor shots. Hopefully they make lenses for the ZV-1 similar to the ones they made for the DJI Osmo Pocket. The lens on the ZV-1 is small anyway and isn't round similar to the Osmo Pocket.
So, maybe I didn't watch enough, but how does the wide angle lens work WiTH the design of the normal lens to project out when the camera is on? You talked abuot stress on the motor.... I dont understand how the wide angle lens works ...on top of the normal lens? Does the normal lens NOT telescope out from the body somehow? Thanks
Nice review. We just started using the ZV1 and I do wish it were wider. The Panasonic solution looks good but I'm not ready to glue a bayonet on just yet and depending on the weight added may end up being something that we just never use. I'm hoping some of these after market products address that. We did see a few decent and easy wide angle lens options for the Osmo Pocket after about 4-5 months, so I'll hold onto some hope. Thanks for making this, was very informative and helpful!
Why don't you just get a selfie stick that can extend? It's cheaper and safer, you're not having to stick on anything to your camera which could potentially damage it.
Thanks for doing this video. It is an interesting idea. (Now all of those Panasonic conversion lenses are going to be instantly snatched up off of Ebay 😉). Not being snarky: wouldn’t simply using a selfie stick be easier?
Hi Ben, I have the Ulanzi wide lens attached on my Sony ZV1 I am looking to sell the ZV1 now to upgrade my camera and I want to sell the ZV1 without the wide lens fitted to a camera company. As the Ulanzi wide lens is stick on, is it possible to remove the wide lens without damaging the camera? Or will it damaged the lens or leave a mark on it from the sticker? Thanks Charlie
Alright Sony. You definitely know what we want for the next version of this. We need the built in lens to be wider!!!
This video should pop up for all ZV 1 searches! Thank you!
This was so thorough. Your suggestion for the cage is top notch and I'd 100% buy that. Got my ZV1 yesterday and its truly the procrastinators dream. No excuses, just filming. The wide angle lens will be a definite addition.
I love this idea
dude with the wide angle it looks so much better!!!
This is awesome!! Camera Conspiracies get on this!
This. I’ve been spamming his comments since the ZV-1 release!
I was thinking the same thing!!
He stated in one of his videos that he prefers to use a small tripod and hold it out from the face and likes that view best with the ZV1
I agree lol! Camera Conspiracies let's go lol!
That was exactly my thought
We’ve found the perfect camera ! 🎼🎼
Wow, what a genius solution! Awesome! Greetings from Japan!
Good job with your ingenuity! I wish Sony releases a mark-II with wide-angle lens next year.
The cage adapter idea is amazing! It would even allow for further protection of the camera
YOU ARE A GENIUS!! A GENIUS I SAY!! I just bought the ZV1 and I love it bcus I didn’t want to buy a external mic and changing of lens! Just when I thought I had no other options 🙌🏽❤️
Just subscribed to your channel because of this video. Exactly what I have been looking for to counter the narrowness of the ZV1 lens.

Great job, seriously it's innovators like you that solve problems for us/me. Stoked!

This is awesome. Thanks for sharing this. I'm just rented the Z-V1 to see if it will be my next camera.
Awesome video! Do you considered Ulanzi or another one designed for ZV1?
love your comments and experiments! it's so true and straight forward
I just recorded my sons first video on the Sony ZV1 for Goetz Vlogs and we used the Ulanzi wide angle and the product show case was amaaaaazing
Amazing result with wide angle.
That Panasonic adapter looks fantastic!!! Sony just needs to hone up and make their own adapter that is light weight and gets us down to 20mm with active stabilization on. Thanks for the great review!

Hi bud! How is it working with the Zomei? Happy with it?
best way to vlog w this camera:
sit your arse down

wait for the next version?
the Panasonic wide-angle lens is a nice addition to the setup and makes vlogging possible or at least bearable so i think it does worth the money.
Really helpful. I have the Panasonic LX-3 and the lens adapter. Am considering the ZV-1 but was apprehensive about the wide end. This is a good compromise.
Great video. Really liking my ZV1 so far. Thank you for the heads up on the ZV-1 Small Rig.
My ZV1 arrives tomorrow 👍
When you walked out at the part, was it handheld? I am thinking of buying a Sony ZV1 plus a Joby Telepod in order to achieve a wider background instead of tinkering the camera, but boy that was exciting.
I'll bet a 3rd party will come up with a simple wide angle for the zv1, just like vendors came up with WA lenses for the Osmo Pocket and Action.
I hope so. Surprised no one ever did for the RX100 series.
@@benbjurstrom hi ben, i just sent you email and would like to invite you to test ULANZI one, check link: www.amazon.com/dp/B08H8N1R6C

That's pretty damn impressive
I love this video
Really great idea for that tube attachment for the small rig cage. 👍
I love the idea of calling out rig manufacturers to create such mount and a tube. Cheers. great content. 😎
The hax everyone has been waiting for!
Literally 😁😁😁
You should do a follow up videos comparison of various wide angle adapter for zv1 like ulanzi etc and see which is the best
a very good inspiration when in other must have lens only have one choice (ulanzi wide angle lens) which allow me to have a comparison.
Wow huge difference! I love it!

You sound like you know what your saying. I just wanted to know is the ZV1 for me? Good to know lens adapter . Thanks
LOOKS GREAT!
SIDNEY I LOVE UR VIDS, please put out more zv-1 content (even stuff like this video)
Top notch video...👍👍👍... There’s hope yet for this camera.... You did a brilliant job with this video..... Great content 👍👍👍
Why didn’t you buy the Ulanzi W-1 wide angle attachment as it looks a lot more compact.

Interesting result. The video looks clear in the middle. If you're after a wider view of you, why not use a longer selfie stick (monopod).
You certainly could. But given the choice between packing a selfie stick or packing a wide angle converter I think I'd rather pack the lens.

I think I glued it when it was extended. I kinda messed it up though so I'm not sure which is better.
