Hello, it's me. You. The year is 2024. You're three, maybe four drinks deep. Watching Vulfpeck Live at Madison Square Garden for the four billionth time. Cheers.
Far too accurate... My Spotify recap was literally 95% this album. My falsetto range is also much greater now at 35 than any other time in my life, and I believe I have ole Theo to thank for that! I'm having another beer in celebration!
Except Vulf isn't mainstream music. They are 100% independent. They control everything they do. They get zero radio play. They get zero media coverage. They are simply the most successful indie band of all time.
This lets you forget about hope for mainstream music - that whole concept of a music industry is no longer required! Vulf are independent niche musicians who marketed themselves in unique and engaging ways entirely through the internet, direct to fans. The mainstream can trickle out and all music can work like Vulf does.
I've never seen a crowd participate so readily. I laughed so hard when more than half the arms went up to catch Antwuan's imaginary football during Wait For the Moment.
Currently writing an academic paper on Vulfpeck and the music industry and the Hill Climber’s Speech was a real highlight of rewatching this video again for “research” purposes. It hit harder than anytime I’ve watched before lol
@@primtones Yeah he's a good bass player. But since listening to a lot of older 70 jazz you can see where he's pinched a lot of his licks from haha. @@picoman1714 I was having SUCH a bad day but really this could get me through the darkest times. I wish I could express to them how much joy their music brings to my life, I measure my words when I say they were life-changing, even more so as a musician!!!

From Russell: Brazilians seem to be able to sing along to instrumentals quite enthusiastically. Take a look at Rush playing YYZ in front of a live audience in Rio: ua-cam.com/video/1eSlvoO3Vw8/v-deo.html
I was turned on (reluctantly) to a small time SoCal band from one of Vulf's fans and it might take a try or two but I dig em now. Kind of hit and miss with the covers but check em out. The leader just did a concert with Josh Smith he's putting out supposed to be SICK. Enjoy... ua-cam.com/video/zwgLG-PHe6w/v-deo.html
ToeJ The way they interacted with the audience was pretty cool though, like he asked for the crowd to give him a note so that they could tune and the crowd sang a note for them that was actually in tune
What they pulled off at Madison Square Garden is unheard of in the music business. These guys booked MSG with no manager, major label support nada... Tickets were on sale for six months and it sold out before the actual concert. Good for them!!!
@@Iwtbaf they only leech from you like a MCN on YT , they only goal is to promote your name to music labels and network ... and take 30% cut or more from you
@@Iwtbaf depends on the relation , if a teenage group gets a honest manager that tries to work them to death to promote them ... you know its a good manager , since he knows as a music group you have max 20 years to become something ... since after those 20 , you live from nostalgia and fans you made ... the only exemption from this rule , is Kylie and Madonna that are in the music industry like for 32 (+\-) years every 2 years changing theirs style to fit and get new fans... the record holder was still MJ that was in this industry for 51 years
I know right? He managed to capture so many perfect little moments. Amazing job. He's a musician (he wrote and played guitar on one of the tunes) and knows all the songs, so that helped no doubt.
Ryan Lerman (who created Scary Pockets and plays with Buble') walked around the whole stage with an iPhone on a gimbal with the exception of the one song where Theo took it. They wanted him to play "Baby I Don't Know" since he wrote it. He was so focused for the whole time. So amazing.
they literally play like they are just back home in their basement, no shiny nonsense, no effects, just really great musicians on stage, jamming together. they even brought those carpets with them...I love it!!!
I love how jack spends 10 years building an incredible band on the internet with amazing music, leading up to booking MSG without a label and performing to 15,000 people, puts on an incredible performance, and then just says “phenomenal” and walks off stage.

For somone undergoing depression and feeling lonely and helpless most time of the day, this single video has brought me back to life multiple times. Vulfpeck remind people about hope and joy. Guess that's the power of music and im glad there are people out there showing the world what music is about.
Fun fact: at 34:45 the cameraman hands the camera over to Theo for Baby I Don’t Know. That’s because the guy filming is Ryan Lerman, who wrote the song. Theo takes over the camera so Ryan can jam out to his own tune. You can see him on guitar in black by Cory during Baby I Don’t Know. Makes me smile.
This performance is arguably the best thing I've ever randomly stumbled across online. Just wonderful. This is a perfect example of exactly what's joyful about music.
@Alexander Samuel When they introduce Cory Wong at the start, it's a famous Vulfpeck meme. Don't know if they started it or the fans, either way it's hilarious. :)
Ryan Lerman who got a lot of flak initially when audience video recordings first surfaced, he was "annoyingly walking the stage, blocking the view" etc. I love his guitar playing and he did a great job here recording everything with a phone
Ryan may have gotten flack from audience members, but there were only 14,000 of them there for one evening, while this is going to be online for how many years? And it has already been watched 22,000 times and it has only been a couple days. What an amazing gift to the world...
Check out Stop Making Sense, it's the exact same vibe. Both of these concert movies took me from knowing nothing about the band to being a fan in about two hours.
@@myHorribleMusic yessssssssssssssss the perfect show! i have it bought on youtube movies because i go back to it all the time and it's the best version
Riverbear2010 Theo’s Drum teacher from when he started I forget his name. He played Congas with them in the 2013-2016 days and since they wanted to get (Mostly) everybody back for playing the Garden he fit in nicely. Edit: His name’s Ritchie Rodriguez
It really is. Never seen a concert shot like this. The guy or band or whoever that came up with this was brilliant. Single cam solo shoot for a whole show is so unique. You really feel a part of the room. Loved this more than anything I have seen and I just found out about the band.
It's amazing how Ryan really almost makes the camera an additional instrument. Since he knows the song so well as a musician, he seems to know almost intuitively where to be to catch the action, or if things shift he recognizes it and adjusts quickly.

I'm an animator, and I work a lot of long hours doing crunch. The one thing that's kept me feeling human throughout these hours has been Vulfpeck. Their music's got so much soul, it sets my heart aflame!
I got home 1h 45min ago after a hard night shift at work and accidentally listened to the whole concert sitting in an armchair under a blanket instead of sleeping. That's the point of music i think.
Honestly, my favourite thing about this concert is how much you can see that they're enjoying the whole experience. The sheer amount of musical joy on display is so infectious!
My thoughts exactly. A couple of years ago when I found this video, I thought that it must have been so wild to be in that audience and I was envious - and I've seen David Bowie and Prince live. Vulfpeck is amazing!

@@etamlak8199 Maybe you misinterpreted my comment. How many youtubers, twitch streamers and patreon indie types do you know that have sold out Madison Square Garden without an agent? Vulfpeck have been famed for their DIY approach, and it's one many musicians have followed. Jack Conte (Scary Pockets/Pomplemoose) set up Patreon in a similar vein.. Of course it's easier to get your own stuff out there now, but it's not a precursor for success or growth of a fanbase to the point where you sell out one of America's most iconic music venues on your own steam. Motown was effectively musical mob rule, but it's no different now with major promoters like Scooter Braun and talent agencies that thrive off desperate musos in Studio City.

The fact that a band like Vulfpeck can play Madison Square Gardens gives me hope for mainstream music.
not just play, but SELL OUT the Garden
I wonder how much they made selling out MSG
Abel Quintero yo, no way! That’s incredible. These people got their money’s worth too. What an amazing show!

Thousands of people singing a bass line in unison together, perfectly. Joy.
As a fellow bassist, that would be the single most gratifying thing I could ever think of to happen on stage. and what a deserving bass line!

I didn't know what this comment meant, and then I watched the first 5 minutes. I get it.
Vulf basically did what a lot of musicians would have deemed impossible:
Madison square garden full of people singing a god damn bass line. So good.
From Russell: Brazilians seem to be able to sing along to instrumentals quite enthusiastically. Take a look at Rush playing YYZ in front of a live audience in Rio: ua-cam.com/video/1eSlvoO3Vw8/v-deo.html
If it grooves it grooves, there's nothing to do about it
And they didn't even have to ask!
It started in Dublin
I was turned on (reluctantly) to a small time SoCal band from one of Vulf's fans and it might take a try or two but I dig em now. Kind of hit and miss with the covers but check em out. The leader just did a concert with Josh Smith he's putting out supposed to be SICK. Enjoy... ua-cam.com/video/zwgLG-PHe6w/v-deo.html

ToeJ come on man... tell that to the crowd. Sorry you have lost your sense of music. Its music not science...
@ToeJ yeah....snarky puppy plays 'college textbook licks'...just gtfo dude
ToeJ The way they interacted with the audience was pretty cool though, like he asked for the crowd to give him a note so that they could tune and the crowd sang a note for them that was actually in tune

What they pulled off at Madison Square Garden is unheard of in the music business. These guys booked MSG with no manager, major label support nada... Tickets were on sale for six months and it sold out before the actual concert. Good for them!!!
