I watched this video. My fundamental question is - didn't Indians cross the border? So how did Chinese "choose" Ladakh if Indians crossed the border? Keep in mind that Modi explicitly said that Chinese did not cross the border. Viewing the released videos from China side revealed that Indians did cross the river (which is far into Chinese side) and confronted the Chinese. So it seems to me that Indians explicitly crossed the border to instigate the conflict, not Chinese "choose" a spot to outsmart the Indians. Looking into the geopolitical landscape at that time, China was engaged heavily with Trump on trade dispute and other areas, it does not make sense for China to open up a new front with India. Therefore it is logical to conclude that India is the one who "chose" to have a confrontation with China, riding on some Trump promises or riding on the situation that China might backdown again. I like to add one more statement. It has been proven, by the Russia Crisis, that India is a critical actor in geopolitical games. One of the main frustrations of US and Europe alliance against Russia is that both China and India support Russia in their oil and gas purchases. Because of the massive alternative Chinese and Indian markets, Russia has a huge advantage when dealing with Europe on gas and oil, resulting in US and European alliance faltering. Without India, the Russia + China Alliance against West will be relatively fragile. US has plenty of room to jeopardize the "line alliance" between Russia and China. But with India as the third party, a more stable "triangle" alliance is created, so US is much more difficult to collapse or nullify the effectiveness of the alliance. Of course this "triangle" alliance is short live and temporary. But it is critical at the moment and provides Russia the breathing room it needs to play out the hand against US and Europe alliance. So for my Indian friends, I want you to understand that China actually treats India very seriously, not for military security, but because India can be a massive stabilizing factor in geopolitical crisis when dealing with US/Russia/China. However, I don't think it will take India 25 years to catch up with China. According to my analysis it will take at least not less than 75 years for India to catch up with China's present stage. Following are some of the reasons which will derail India's growth: 1. Demographics dividend: Unlike China, India is a multilingual and multi race country. Yes it's true that China too has its share of diversity and different ethnicities but it's very minimal as compared to India (92% of China's population consists of Han Chinese and other Chinese consist of only 8% of the population). 2. Multi party system: Every 5 years there is a parliamentary and assembly election in some parts of India. 3. Political ideologies: Many Indian political parties in India have their own ideology which resulted in enmity and hatred towards each other. 4. Religion: Unlike China, followers of Muslims, Christians, Buddhists etc are known by their ethnicities and not by their religious affiliation. However, it's just the opposite in India, Muslims, Christians Buddhists are known by their religious affiliation only and not by their ethnicities even though they may speak Bihari, Bengali, Gujrati, Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Haryanvi, Marathi, Odhiya, Hindi, Dogra etc. 5. Internal affairs: India is facing many internal issues like for eg in tackling insurgency in the North East, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Kashmir etc. Not to forget Maoist naxalite issues also. 6. Federal Structure: India is divided into many states based on the linguistic line, due to this there is no unity as such amongst its people. Many states in India fight with each other due to borders, language or some or the other reasons like true enemies. 7. Big brother behaviour: In the coming days India will lose its influence in many of its neighbours in South Asia due to its big brother behaviour. This will also derail India's growth. 8. Religious intolerance: There's a rising number of religious intolerances amongst different religious affiliations in India. 9. Education: Apart from private schools, colleges and universities, the conditions of govt education institutions are in very deplorable conditions. Serious and prompt action has to be taken in this direction. Huge money will be needed to sort out these issues. As 70% of India's population lives in rural areas where even private education institutions are not in good condition as compared in the urban areas. 10. Poverty: There's immense poverty in India. To solve this issue, more FDI will be required, more money should be invested in infrastructure to create more jobs. The government should give directions to the banking industry to cut the interest rates in order to attract more wannabe entrepreneurs to set up their enterprises. The more the enterprises the more the jobs and more the revenue it will generate in the govt exchequer. To reach China's present stage, India will have to maintain 15 % growth annually continuously for 10 years. Which I think is not possible in the given scenario. Thus, it will further delay in catching up with China.

I watched this video. My fundamental question is - didn't Indians cross the border? So how did Chinese "choose" Ladakh if Indians crossed the border? Keep in mind that Modi explicitly said that Chinese did not cross the border. Viewing the released videos from China side revealed that Indians did cross the river (which is far into Chinese side) and confronted the Chinese.
So it seems to me that Indians explicitly crossed the border to instigate the conflict, not Chinese "choose" a spot to outsmart the Indians. Looking into the geopolitical landscape at that time, China was engaged heavily with Trump on trade dispute and other areas, it does not make sense for China to open up a new front with India. Therefore it is logical to conclude that India is the one who "chose" to have a confrontation with China, riding on some Trump promises or riding on the situation that China might backdown again.
So Indians, please speak with facts, not your self-indulgence. If you don't, your conclusion might lead to false conclusion. That happens quite often.

I like to add one more statement. It has been proven, by the Russia Crisis, that India is a critical actor in geopolitical games. One of the main frustrations of US and Europe alliance against Russia is that both China and India support Russia in their oil and gas purchases. Because of the massive alternative Chinese and Indian markets, Russia has a huge advantage when dealing with Europe on gas and oil, resulting in US and European alliance faltering.
Without India, the Russia + China Alliance against West will be relatively fragile. US has plenty of room to jeopardize the "line alliance" between Russia and China. But with India as the third party, a more stable "triangle" alliance is created, so US is much more difficult to collapse or nullify the effectiveness of the alliance. Of course this "triangle" alliance is short live and temporary. But it is critical at the moment and provides Russia the breathing room it needs to play out the hand against US and Europe alliance.
So for my Indian friends, I want you to understand that China actually treats India very seriously, not for military security, but because India can be a massive stabilizing factor in geopolitical crisis when dealing with US/Russia/China. That is the main reason China usually holding back when there is conflict between China and India high up in the mountain around some barren rocks. China is not afraid of Indians there, but they are more concerned about the overall geopolitical impact.
Again, China is not India's enemy. There is no real security concern. And China is fully aware that India is important for geopolitical issues. We just need to be clear about this when politicians flex their patriotic postures for political support.

According to my analysis it will take at least not less than 75 years for India to catch up with China's present stage.
Following are some of the reasons which will derail India's growth:
1. Demographics dividend: Unlike China, India is a multilingual and multi race country. Yes it's true that China too has its share of diversity and different ethnicities but it's very minimal as compared to India (92% of China's population consists of Han Chinese and other Chinese consist of only 8% of the population).
2. Multi party system: Every 5 years there is a parliamentary and assembly election in some parts of India.
3. Political ideologies: Many Indian political parties in India have their own ideology which resulted in enmity and hatred towards each other.
4. Religion: Unlike China, followers of Muslims, Christians, Buddhists etc are known by their ethnicities and not by their religious affiliation. However, it's just the opposite in India, Muslims, Christians Buddhists are known by their religious affiliation only and not by their ethnicities even though they may speak Bihari, Bengali, Gujrati, Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Haryanvi, Marathi, Odhiya, Hindi, Dogra etc.
5. Internal affairs: India is facing many internal issues like for eg in tackling insurgency in the North East, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Kashmir etc. Not to forget Maoist naxalite issues also.
6. Federal Structure: India is divided into many states based on the linguistic line, due to this there is no unity as such amongst its people. Many states in India fight with each other due to borders, language or some or the other reasons like true enemies.
7. Big brother behaviour: In the coming days India will lose its influence in many of its neighbours in South Asia due to its big brother behaviour. This will also derail India's growth.
8. Religious intolerance: There's a rising number of religious intolerances amongst different religious affiliations in India.
9. Education: Apart from private schools, colleges and universities, the conditions of govt education institutions are in very deplorable conditions. Serious and prompt action has to be taken in this direction. Huge money will be needed to sort out these issues. As 70% of India's population lives in rural areas where even private education institutions are not in good condition as compared in the urban areas.
10. Poverty: There's immense poverty in India. To solve this issue, more FDI will be required, more money should be invested in infrastructure to create more jobs. The government should give directions to the banking industry to cut the interest rates in order to attract more wannabe entrepreneurs to set up their enterprises. The more the enterprises the more the jobs and more the revenue it will generate in the govt exchequer. To reach China's present stage, India will have to maintain 15 % growth annually continuously for 10 years. Which I think is not possible in the given scenario. Thus, it will further delay in catching up with China.

Pravin Sawhney raised some good points. But here's where the whole discussion baffles me.
1. Shouldn't India concentrate in building up its infrastructure first? Raising the standard of living of its people first?
2. All these talks about military, how India's military failed to rise in capability and technology, seems to be useless when the backbone of its military eg, communication, AI are not in place.
3. China is not a threat to India and never had been a threat. As to the disputed lands, it should be settled as did Russia with China - end of disputes.
4. Why India is itching, wanting to become a super power when India still needs to establish its strength in manufacturing and set its own supply chain down from materials to finish products. Democratic nations are aligned, autocratic nations are fence sitting but waiting and aligning behind closed doors. India being outplayed by China is good analysis. China out played the world with world trade agreements. China gave all the signals of moving away from communism towards democracy. Now the world can see the Belt & Road initiative is a poverty trap. China is expanding across the globe and one of its strategic goals is to dominate India. Cleverly India is a full 1/4 partner in the Quad. Whilst this is about trade it is also about protecting trade routs. Eventually, India will have to make the choice and neutrality is not one of the choices.
