I first saw Mark Frankel in Fortune Hunter, then was ready to see him once again in Kindred: The Embraced. Upon hearing of his death in 1996, I created a tribute web site for him, featuring images and news bits. Then one day, in the user feedback, I noticed someone thanking me for keeping his father's work active on the web. It was signed by Fabien Frankel. I have been waiting many years to see Fabien Frankel on the screen. And I smiled when that moment came.

Thank you for the video. I can't imagine how Mark's mother feels having lost 2 of her adults children. My heart goes out to her. My daughter died 2 years ago 3 weeks after her father my husband. Both suffered from incurable illnesses. I am still grieving and will never get over it. It is my daughter's children who keep me going. I hope Mark's mother can get comfort from his children too. Life is so unfair.

Had to watch this a few times as even though his face looks familiar nothing registered with me.
However so sad his life was cut short and even more tragic about his brother. I always remember my cousin funeral and my Uncle saying we should never bury our children. I was only a young teenager then and never understood that until becoming a mother. Heartbreaking for any parent to go through but twice for Marks Mum you can’t comprehend.
    Interesting life story, thanks Paul.

I can't even begin to imagine the pain and sorrow that David and Grace Frankel endured, losing their two children - both in the prime of their lives, which were so tragically cut short...
Although I never watched any of his work, I remember seeing Mark Frankel as I was walking down the street in NYC - it's a face difficult to forget...
Did You know that after his father David passed away, Mark Frankel's mother Grace reconnected with her soul mate Hanns Salzer Levy?
They ended up getting married when she was 77 - he was 86.
A true silver lining, and proof that none of us are 'too old' to grab a bit of happiness if/when we get the chance...

I remember reading about Leon the Pig Farmer in Empire Magazine when it first came out. All of the cast and crew were on deferred salaries but as the film didn't take much money, nobody really got paid. It was a super low budget independent British comedy and as nobody would financially back it, the producers had to find more creative ways to get it made. I was interested by the article and had to go to London to see it (I believe it was at the MGM Swiss Centre - now long demolished) as it didn't seem to be showing outside of London. Incidentally it's the last film Carry On legend Bernard Bresslaw was in (he died the same year the film was released).
I was aware Mark died quite young and it does make you wonder what career he'd have had if he had lived, as he wasn't quite a household name at the time. I certainly wasn't aware that his brother had died a few years before flying a biplane - that fact gives this video an extra depth of sadness. But thankyou Paul for helping keep these names from being forgotten.

Anyway the cemetery is beautifully kept Did not know of this guy but I hate tragic accidents , being a motorcyclist myself. Then his brother died in a Tiger Moth! Those aircraft were very, very old in 1990. I recall them in the late 1960s being used as tugs for gliders but they were slow and buggered, Still, incredibly sad Great video.

What a truly handsome young man, and so very talented in his craft! He seems to have done so much in such a short time, and then to marry ,start a family and be taken just before the birth of his second son is so ,so cruel…my heart goes out to ALL his family in such a huge loss, and of course his poor mother losing a second son also.
We don’t expect our children to pass before us, I’ve lost a son of my own, just after the birth of his own son, and life is truly at its worst right then…my anger with God was the pain I felt at that time, as I would stand in the empty church and rage at him. But it doesn’t alter anything. Life still ticks along. I hope his little sons favour their father, so his wife and mother still can see him in them. God bless you and your families Mark 🙏🦋💐

8:57 Mark Frankel's brother was killed in a mid-air collision.
Frankel's plane crashed into a field and the other plane crashed into a school playing field nearby.
The planes crashed on either side of the M25 near Reigate.
Frankel was the only occupant of his plane.
All three occupants of the other plane died as well.

    Morning Paul.
Like many others who have commented, I had not heard on Mark Frankel either which is a shame as he acted with some very eminent actors. Perhaps he would have become better known had he not been so tragically killed. It is also sad that three families lost husbands, fathers, brothers, children and a grandfather so close together in time.
Unfortunately, churches dare not leave their buildings open 24 / 7 today for fear of vandalism. It is a real shame and it doesn’t matter how affluent the area is, it is not immune to the unwanted attention of a few mindless idiots who seem to get a kick out of vandalising churches and cemeteries. We think of ourselves as a cultured society with high-end values but sadly there is still a strand of feral louts house have no respect for people, objects or buildings and are just driven to destroy. 😢

Paul, thank you so very much for this video! It is greatly appreciated! And I would just like to add,
I KNEW WHO MARK FRANKEL WAS! 😊
I became an immediate fan when I watched him as Gregory Orlov in TNT’s “Young Catherine”. I’m American, so it wasn’t until much later that I was able to see A Season of Giants, Leon the Pig Farmer, Solitaire for 2, and “For Roseanna” (aka “Roseanne’s Grave”).
I watched him in The tv series of The Fortune Hunter (very tongue in cheek James Bondish; Mark was funny and adorable!) and Sisters. But his last TV series was the best yet! “Kindred: The Embraced” as Julian Luna. This was a vampire series way ahead of its and the genre’s time!
I would also like to mention that neither Mark nor Joe died from reckless behavior, despite their adventurous pursuits. Joe was admired and beloved by Mark and his death made a huge impact on Mark’s life. He realized then that life was short and for the taking and also the importance of family. He married and became a father before his time was up. I cannot imagine how difficult it has been to go on without him in their lives.
Mark’s mother and his widow are still very close and are well, and his sons are thriving in their lives and careers.
To learn more about Mark Frankel, feel free to visit my site:

    Thank you,
    Katie S.
P.S. I traveled from the US to London in 2002 and took the train to Weybridge to visit Mark’s grave and pay my respects. His and Joe’s gravesites had hardly any other graves around them at that time. Seeing you walk up the street to the cemetery and then at the graves brought a flood of memories back to me. On behalf of all the worldwide fans of Mark Frankel who may not ever have the opportunity to visit his grave, I say THANK YOU, PAUL, from the bottom of my heart for your time and efforts to make your video and share it on your UA-cam channel.

Thank you so much for your lovely kind words… it’s great to see he has loyal devoted fans like yourself to keep his memory alive.
I’m happy if my videos bring just one person some comfort but to bring many makes it more the worth while. 🙏

Hi Paul, Didn't know Mark Franklin, He reminds me of a young Montgomery Clift or a young Vince Edwards.

Back in the 70's I knew Mark, he lived close by and as teenage boys we hung out on long summer evenings, maybe around 1975. He was from quite a wealthy Long Ditton [in Surrey near Surbiton] family, and very glamorous, or so it seemed to me at the time!
We went our separate ways in life, and I never saw him again; then in mid 90’s, I was living in Kent and heard an advert on TV for a film (something to do with a pig) quoting his name, I saw his face and recognised him, and the years all rolled back. I remember his brother as well, and his father and his small quiet and darky mysterious mother, who was in the background and silent.
Both brothers and his father have passed, only his mother now remains of the people I remember, but she will be quite well on by now, and very possibly, like my own mother, has relatively recently passed on. Such things do make one stop and ponder life and mortality. We are all transient and should make full use of the time we have; Mark I am sure would have had an interesting acting presence in films if he had lived. Fate is indiscriminate, sadly.
