Personally I don't like any handheld. I never have. To me, gaming is all about immersion. Can't do that on a tinny screen. Even the Switch screen is too small for my. But if I had to choose I'd go with the Pow Kiddy X15 due to the amount of great systems it can run plus being Android has many advantages. After that it's got to be the RG-350 M. If the M didn't exist I'd go with the original RG-350.
What about the gkd350h which I think has superior specs! There is also a metal version of the gkd350h but it's rare.Too bad it doesnt get enough love though!

I found one on Ebay for £82, snapped it up. Absolutely love the quality of it. It doesn't do N64 well at all but maybe a bit more development and maybe fingers crossed. but everything else spot on!

Very nice looking piece of hardware, however I do like my sticks staggered, same as an Xbox 360 controller, and Nintendo Switch Lite, as I personally find it more comfortable.

For the asking price, HDMI output should be mandatory out of the gate for this little beast, a software update shouldn't be necessary nor mandatory. The good news is that said update is easy to do.
To be honest, it took them 6 months or more just to come out with a Beta HDMI patch, which is already a miracle. Prior to that, everyone assumed there'd be no HDMI support, even though the port is there.
Looks amazing, a little bit pricey but does right everything all those devices were doing wrong since the the GCW Zero. It only took the chinese 7 years xD It could had better battery life... but it's really cool, I will probably get one somewhere in the future.

This looks marvelous ! The specs actually look similiar to the Orange Pi microcomputers, and I have that running since 2017 without problems - but it was not a handheld ! So no surprise everything runs great. To be fair, if this had Nintendo 64 emulator it could probably run some less demanding games at a good rate. I believe it is powerful enough. What a plot of twist we do have. Even a few years ago this could be a big hit.
This is definitely not powerful enough to run N64 games. Even CP3 games it's not able to run at 60fps, though still playable. You may want to check out the RK2020, which is basically a China made version of OGA, and performs similarly as such.

There is one thing I really wish to know about RG350 - which firmware should I choose. At this moment I've got 1.7 version of official firmware (which was taken back by authors, due to its issues reported by many users), now the latest official is 1.5. And there is constatly upgraded Rogue version of firmware. Truth be told, I don't like changing firmware because it's always in my case more diificult than it's officialy shown on YT videos - always something is not detected, handheld is not launching at all etc. Hence I;m always hesitating a bit when it comes to change firmware (especially since I've lost two micro-sd cards at some point).
HDMI patch can only be installed on the official firmware, it will not work for all the custom firmwares out there. You don't have to keep reflashing firmware, just stick to one that works for you.
Great video! Please review the Odroid Go Advance if you can get your hands on one. Also a look at the ancestor of all these Dingux handhelds, the original Dingoo A320, would be nice.
Not any time soon. This model is an evolution of the original RG-350. The specs besides the upgraded screen, aluminium case and reconfigured button layout are the same.
Given this RG350 uses a 3.5" screen, I think future versions would be RG400 with a 4" screen or RG450 with a 4.5" screen with better CPU/GPU hopefully. RAM on this device is not a limiting factor.
Not really unless you must have that aluminium case and upgraded screen. Besides that and the repositioning of the analogue sticks, it's the same machine.
How about screen tearing? Will the screen switch refreshrate or will it always run at 60Hz? This might actually be the emulatiom device I'll buy. It looks really nice! However, the OS holds me back a bit, with something like android you have plenty of choice in emulators. I'm also considering the GPD XD. Though choice.
As you can see in the video there is no screen tearing. Obviously I haven't played every game on this device but out of the ones I have played there hasn't been any tearing issues.
@@RetroCore yeah probably most consoles run at 60Hz or pretty close, so that would be not an issue. Probably the games run a tiny bit faster or slower as they sync to the screen refresh rate. I build me a LCD mame cab a few years ago, and arcade games are ranging from like 54 to 61 Hz mostly. And you don't want to aync a 54Hz game to your monitor, it'll play either too fast or choppy as it just doesn't match up. That's why I asked as I believe there is also arcade games on the RG350. I think I'm too spoiled with CRT in the past. That's why I wrote a little tool that actually sets the refresh rate of an LCD monitor to the refreshrate of the game, ie. 100% match, and therefore no tearing. Most LCD's have a range of refreshrates they'll operate in. And honestly, it's great to run at the exact speed without tearing or stuttering. Maybe I'm asking to much of such a device :-)

Strangely, Neogeo Viewpoint can't run on my original RG350, both FBA and GnNeo. Not sure is the problem due to the game itself or my likely outdated emulator software.

Why do you torture me with these tiny cool devices with small screens? As a gen x my eyes are failing me... no matter how much I would love to have a gadget like this I would never enjoy it because my eyes will hurt... SAD!
I feel your pain as well, I was born mostly blind in my right eye(can't legally drive a car because of it), and at 39 the eyesight in my left eye ain't what it use to be, and I can only play games on my Switch Lite, 2DS XL, or my Android phone for about an hour(that's really pushing it) at a time at most before having to take a break.
@@RetroCore No worries I just change a negative into a positive, and have worked around it all my life, if I need to go someplace far out since I live a small town here in the US, and major stores are a 30 minute, or more drive, then I have great family, and a long time girlfriend who are all fine with it, and my work of 16+ years for a non profit is also good with it, as I work at a remote site, and I can literally drive my golf cart to work(have to stick to secondary roads with a special sticker from the state) in 7 minutes from my front door step when it's not bad weather, or I'm not going to my main office.

Disagree about the stick layout, but that's a long standing thing about the playstation vita and always nudging the stick when using the dpad. Wii u had the best layout with the sticks on the top (and this is a playstation guy saying that)
i have it, but is complicated. way more than bittboy when i try put roms on it. don't know. maybe was a bad deal . for now i try game boy. works. but i miss some roms. mame won't work but files are there. not easy to find those files. without a computer you are wery limited i see. can't hooked up with pc... device see ip and that's it. don't like it. for now bittboy is way more better than this. easy to put roms in it. i pay 100€ for this junk,,,,,, to complicated to deal with and not work properly. such a money waste
@@RetroCore MAME is picky i figured that out. But still bittboy is easyer to put roms in and bittboy will play them. On RG is more complicated. But do works. But i missung the roms i put in.. Batman Animated series won't work on bittboy.. i can't tested on RG, because there is no file... i found it but imposdible to run or transfer to a proper place with RG itself.. i ty VBA emulator. Doesn't apear on RG. Maybe will not work at all. RG won't hook up with PC, even if RG sees IP.
@@RetroCore i only need a proper set.. if those two mame emulstors are good there will be no problem. But i doubt that RG is strong enough to run driving games on rg. even my PC barely can handle them.. on pc i have emulator from win xp era. And simply works on win10.

I do too for console controllers. I can't stand Sony controllers. On this device the configuration seems to work well.

I think the first version looks better and the layout of the sticks is better on the first one.
I also like the orange and black look of the first but this one really does ooze quality. It's probably the only full metal cases handheld out there.

TV (HDMI) out required some beta patch, not recommended since had some bug and reduce compability in some emulator
I believe the patch doesn't break compatiblity but just doesn't work with all emulators.

For videos, I would say yes. Watching media on a 240p screen would suck, I'd rather have at least a 480p screen like the MP/X series from Powkiddy.

To add hdmi to the new one is very easy. Just add 1 file then install it. That's it. I'll do a tutorial tonight.

Yes, for some reason these Chinese devices insist on calling them TF card but they are more commonly known as Micro SD card. They are 100% the same.

Yes. It does depend on the emulator options though. Some allow it while others don't.

I do feel your pain. My eyes are also going but luckily I can still use a device like this if I take my glasses off. For how long though is a mystery.
I feel your pain as well, I was born mostly blind in my right eye(can't legally drive a car because of it), and at 39 the eyesight in my left eye ain't what it use to be, and I can only play games on my Switch Lite, 2DS XL, or my Android phone for about an hour(that's really pushing it) at a time at most before having to take a break.
Man, that's a bummer.
@@RetroCore No worries I just change a negative into a positive, and have worked around it all my life, if I need to go someplace far out since I live a small town here in the US, and major stores are a 30 minute, or more drive, then I have great family, and a long time girlfriend who are all fine with it, and my work of 16+ years for a non profit is also good with it, as I work at a remote site, and I can literally drive my golf cart to work(have to stick to secondary roads with a special sticker from the state) in 7 minutes from my front door step when it's not bad weather, or I'm not going to my main office.

Disagree about the stick layout, but that's a long standing thing about the playstation vita and always nudging the stick when using the dpad.
Wii u had the best layout with the sticks on the top (and this is a playstation guy saying that)
I had absolutely no issue with nudging the stick but then again I do g have massive hands so it may depend on the size of the individual's hands.
i have it, but is complicated. way more than bittboy when i try put roms on it. don't know. maybe was a bad deal . for now i try game boy. works. but i miss some roms. mame won't work but files are there. not easy to find those files. without a computer you are wery limited i see. can't hooked up with pc... device see ip and that's it. don't like it. for now bittboy is way more better than this. easy to put roms in it. i pay 100€ for this junk,,,,,, to complicated to deal with and not work properly. such a money waste
For mame, you need to use the same rom set for the version of Mame used on the console.
@@RetroCore MAME is picky i figured that out. But still bittboy is easyer to put roms in and bittboy will play them. On RG is more complicated. But do works. But i missung the roms i put in.. Batman Animated series won't work on bittboy.. i can't tested on RG, because there is no file... i found it but imposdible to run or transfer to a proper place with RG itself.. i ty VBA emulator. Doesn't apear on RG. Maybe will not work at all. RG won't hook up with PC, even if RG sees IP.
@@RetroCore i didn't try if RG can read zipped files. Unziped will read... ill try.. hope tha i have a proper set. I just forgot for those versions.
Mame can be kept zipped but other stuff should be unzipped
@@RetroCore i only need a proper set.. if those two mame emulstors are good there will be no problem. But i doubt that RG is strong enough to run driving games on rg. even my PC barely can handle them.. on pc i have emulator from win xp era. And simply works on win10.
