I dedicate this song to my Mom! It's one of her favorites. She's dying of ovarian cancer at age 68. I don't know how I'm going to make it without her. ❤️❤️
I saw Jackson Browne for the first time when I was 19. He closed the show in San Diego with this song as his final encore. I've seen him many times since. He's the working man's troubadour despite his success. He has made a career saluting those who make life happen and all the while making us care. He's still touring, telling stories and keeping us in touch with what matters. His songs are milestones of all our lives. He is truly one of a kind. Go see him when he comes to town. He's as good as he ever was! Much love and peace!
Still one of my favorite songs… I’m 25 and I grew up on Jackson Browne! This song will always ring the bells of my childhood. I hope it never goes out of style.
it never will as long as we teach our kids right...ima 56 yoa and ima glad to see someone 25 yoa who can appreciate this style of life...its a lifestyle not just a fad...pass it on youngin ...peace !.!.!.!.!
Your momma and daddy must of played his albums, because he was not on the air or Radio 25 years ago sweetheart. Not the 90’s ….. he was out when I was a child, in the 70’s and as a teen in the 80s I was Raised on Radio. Happy to know you like these oldie but goodies .. my sons are in their 30s and love all my music and my momma and daddy’s music 🎶♥️😊
To be honest it is out of style. But a lot of us still love it. And I respect that you like what you like whether it’s “in” or not. Jackson Brown is talent.
69 Severely Disabled Veteran here, this is in my playlist on the Tube. From the late 60s to early 90s went to a lot of concerts and we all seemed to always beg the band to come on back for a final song. This song, and Bob Seger Turn the Page, are in my weekly must-play. Tear in my eyes, or smile on my face, these songs (and many more) keep the depression at bay. Thank You, Jackson. Perfect song.
I worked for Glenn Frey building his studio in Snowmass. He told me about meeting Jackson in Hollywood just off Sunset Strip. Jackson sitting playing a song he was working on. Glenn had just arrived from Detroit carrying his acoustic in a case. He sat down, pulled out his guitar and helped finish "Take it Easy". Glenn asked if he could record it and Jackson gave him the rights. I saw Glenn's Grammy for it.
I had a 8 track Pioneer super tuner with the speakers to boot. It was in my 1976 candy apple Camaro. How I miss them days. I was so blessed by our creator. You guys just can’t imagine my feelings of loss. Just memories now. Great memories!!!
I was 7 years old when this song came out. I loved it then....I'm 51 years old and it keeps getting better every time o hear it. Jackson Brown , you may never read this but., you made a difference in a young man's life with this song. We don't quit the job because we are tired....We quit the job when its done. Thanks Mr. Brown. You are a true inspiration for us all.
This song has it all. A feeling of melancholia, for the past and a time we will never get back or be able to fully appreciate. Lyrics that seem to warn us as we seem so intent on what tomorrow offers like a kid on Christmas eve, who can't be in the present as they are told of presents coming tomorrow. Yearning to feel a sense of fulfilment we may never fully grasp until we leave this life. A feeling of hopefulness, optimism, and expectation that tomorrow will be better than today or yesterday. A feeling of resilience as we grow from experiences and take them with us on life's road, wherever we go, good and bad. It gives you a sense of purpose for tomorrow, we all need that at times and I hope you find it everyday wherever you search.
In August of last year, I listened to this in the car with my then-girlfriend on the highway a mere eight hours before we were off to college. We went to different schools, and that ultimately was what drove us apart. I still love her- more than I should after all that she did to me and all that she put me through- but this song is a portal back in time to when things were good. More than anything I wish I could go back in time and say one word to her. Stay. Maybe that's pathetic, maybe that's sad, hell, maybe that's everything that I shouldn't put myself through, but I can't stop myself from wishing. I'd like to think I'm not alone in feeling this way, but you never truly know in this world. To everybody reading this- take care of yourselves, and think twice before you let yourself fall madly, deeply in love. If you protect your heart you can protect yourself. Learn from my mistakes.
From a 78 Y/O (69 Woodstock veteran) who has been there and back, Etta James was very correct in her synopsis of falling in love..."I'd rather go blind"!
I do Still single after all these years Never had it never will My country starved raped 40thousand and counting Self defense friends say Gotta survive WHERE IS OUR WIFE AND FAMILY GREATER AWAKENING THEYRE RUNNIN THESE DAMN JEWS sorry I'm a yid but I've been railroaded By the people of their book
This was recorded in my hometown on the day I was born. I didn’t figure that out until I was going through my dad’s old vinyls around age 12. I liked the song, read on the jacket that it was recorded on my birth date in Columbia, Maryland! It’s been my favorite song for a long time because it’s about doing what you love.
Great songs were written in Maryland, like Stevie Nicks wrote Silver Springs. But the most famous song written in Maryland was by Francis Scott Key. Yes. I'm talking about The Star-Spangled Banner.
I have always loved this song, from the first time I heard it. Somehow, though, in my now too experienced mind, I had it credited to the wrong piano man; I argued with my husband most of the day today that this was indeed a Billy Joel song. Sorry to both men. I swore it was on The Stranger lp. Yes, I was a teenager when this first came out.
Well, Jackson Brown didn't write "Stay." That was written by Maurice Williams and recorded by his group The Gladiolas (later the Zodiacs). It is a Carolina Beach Music classic. It is not a part of California pot-smoking culture but rather down-home Southern rhythm and blues. Maurice Williams also wrote the Diamonds' great 1950's smash hit, "Little Darlin'". Look around UA-cam for the Diamonds and MW and the Zodiacs performing the originals.

Jackson is the best of the best. I am 57 almost 58. I have listened to him my whole life since my family listened to him when i was a young girl. I listen to him every day and it has never gotten old. ❤
I was 9 years old in 1985 when my father took me to see my first concert ever. It was Jackson Browne. I fell in love with music that night and love this album specifically. My dad passed away when I was twenty five. I cry every time I hear running on empty. I miss you dad. I shared this music with my sons when they became interested in my records. The best way to listen to this is on vinyl. But I'm grateful for youtube, since my ex wife took my turntable. Jackson is a true master songwriter. Thank you for enriching my life experiences over almost forty years now. To describe it as Gratitude doesn't even say it right...
It's a shame that a commercial comes on right at the split but thanks for having the full song here! This is 2023 and songs like this will always thrive! Jackson Browne is legendary as a songwriter/artist!
@@bernadettecartin not sure which comment I made that you're replying to, (UA-cam used to allow a search feature of your own comments, a different world, in a different time that they don't allow anymore) but guessing about the original comment about an ad between Load Out & Stay. Ad Block is a free extension of Google Chrome that blocks from my experience ALL UA-cam ads. This is why ad interruptions aren't really a thing any more, example Jessie Vee used to make a 10 min video and spend the first 5 mins talking about her merch store. just keep pressing the right arrow until you get to the actual video
Jackson's music resonates over the years. For me, it's the sound of a Ft. Worth Texas repertory theatre group packing up the chairs and amps after nightly shows outside a restaurant at Lake Worth. The piano player would play this every night at the end of the night, in the early eighties.
This song reminds me of being on the road. I'm sure a lot of people say this but hear me out. I'm a high school band teacher. I take my group of kid from town to town on the bus and the parents who help me out each and every game remind of this song. It makes me question why are we even here? But as the song says "when the lights come up and we hear that crowd, and we remember why we came"

Those times seemed so much simpler compared to 2020! Listening to Jackson gives me hope music will get us through to the other side of this current abyss. “People,, we’ve got the power to get through this...””. Great times comin’ back...just wait a while longer!
Not just one of my favorite Jackson Browne songs. One of my all-time favorites. I spent nearly two decades full-time and another couple decades part-time in the music industry as a sound engineer/PA system owner and roadie.
I've always thought that this song captured life on the road as well as any song ever written. Set up, tear down, set up, tear down... and in between setups and teardowns, you get to play some music. I'm sure every touring musician knows the feeling... "come on, give us five more minutes before we gotta get out of here. Just five. One more song."
IMO Jackson Browne's best - a concept album about musician's life on the road.. With a great first track and a killer ending track/s plus all good tracks in between = no throwaways, as if it's a "greatest hits".. I had vinyl copy of this, then a cassette, and later a cd. And now I listen to this on You tube. I never get tired after half century. A real gem of an album..
@Ely -- Ditto. But you know what I dont understand - how it is that one of his best songs ever ("You Love the Thunder") appears on no other album... There's no studio version!! One of the biggest oversights in the history of Rock music in my humble opinion!
Wow, this makes me want to go out and buy this CD. I already have a huge CD collection, but for some strange reason, I think this one is missing from it. I'll have to do something about that.
As a struggling graduate student in 1978, this song got me through my final exams and on to a successful career, that I never could have imagined in the dark days of '78. Thanks Jackson!

Now the seats are all empty Let the roadies take the stage Pack it up and tear it down They're the first to come and last to leave Working for that minimum wage They'll set it up in another town Tonight the people were so fine They waited there in line And when they got up on their feet they made the show And that was sweet ... But I can hear the sound Of slamming doors and folding chairs And that's a sound they'll never know Now roll them cases out and lift them amps Haul them trusses down and get'em up them ramps Cause when it comes to moving me You guys are the champs But when that last guitar's been packed away You know that I still want to play So just make sure you got it all set to go Before you come for my piano But the band's on the bus And they're waiting to go We've got to drive all night and do a show in Chicago Or Detroit, I don't know We do so many shows in a row And these towns all look the same We just pass the time in our hotel rooms And wander 'round backstage Till those lights come up and we hear that crowd And we remember why we came Now we got country and western on the bus, R&B We got disco on eight tracks and cassettes in stereo We got rural scenes and magazines And we got truckers on CB And we got Richard Pryor on the video We got time to think of the ones we love While the miles roll away But the only time that seems too short Is the time that we get to play People you've got the power over what we do You can sit there and wait Or you can pull us through Come along, sing the song You know you can't go wrong Cause when that morning sun comes beating down You're going to wake up in your town But we'll be scheduled to appear A thousand miles away from here People stay just a little bit longer We want to play -- just a little bit longer Now the promoter don't mind And the union don't mind If we take a little time And we leave it all behind and sing One more song-- Oh, won't you stay just a little bit longer Please, please, please, say you will Say you will Oh won’t you stay Just a little bit longer Oh won’t you stay Just a little bit longer And the promoter don’t mind And the roadies don’t mind If we take a little time And we leave it all behind and sing One more song
The first time I ever heard the song was at a Jackson Browne concert in Middletown, New York, at the Orange County Fairgrounds Speedway, around 1986, when I was 15 years old. It was my very first concert. I was completely blown away, especially by this song. I went and got myself a $50 guitar from a pawn shop and taught myself how to play. I've been doing it for 35 years now. This will always be one of my absolute favorite songs of all time. 😎🎸
Jackson Browne delivered the zeitgeist of the 70s and 80s with a smoothness an undeniable likability that makes him one of the greatest cross category artists. His fusion of a rock 'n' roll rhythm section and a wonderfully intertwined country compliment make him one of my favorites. It's a shame that he went into some kind of reclusion. it's good to see him back. Everybody send some love to Jackson.
He has a studio in Nashville. I have a songwriter performer name of KEITH SYKES that helps produce there. Check out his #1 song "COME AS YOU BAR" KEITH COWROTE SONGS WITH JOHN PRINE and traveled with BUFFETT for a while.
My favorite song of ALL time! Grabs my heart every time. Fills my soul! Could listen to it endlessly! Thanks you Jackson Browne, you are such a true artist!
I remember all the roadies from so many bands. They were the real stars behind the scenes. God Bless all the Roadies without them rock and roll would be impossible. Great tribute song from Jackson Browne to the real heros.

I dedicate this song to my Mom! It's one of her favorites. She's dying of ovarian cancer at age 68. I don't know how I'm going to make it without her. ❤️❤️
All the best Amanda
Just lost my mom. You'll make it. Stay strong and memories will help!
I am sorry about your mom being sick. Sending hugs ❤❤
amanda, may your mom stay, just a little bit longer...God Bless
I lost my Mom to Breast cancer at the very tender age of 6. I’m now 61…you can make it. I did. It hurts. EVERY. DAMN. DAY. But you will survive.
I was 14 yrs old when this song came out. My first boyfriend was 16. He LOVED this song ❤!
Remembering Leon...
i was a roadie and loved this song great tribute to a group of tough and cool guy`s thank`s to all road crew`s everywhere !
It is a wonderful tribute to the crews who make it all possible! Thank you for everything YOU did for our enjoyment of the show.
It speaks to Mr. Browne’s character for sure.
😎🥳🎉🤩❤😍🎉🥳🤠
You are the Legends! 🤗🤗🤗
He is also good at beating up women,
Saw him for the first time a few years ago. He didn't play these, & was disappointed. Otherwise a great show.

Kevin Garrett you got that right buddy!
What an underrated performer. What a great time to be alive.
He wasn't underrated in his prime! Saying underrated is so overrated
I was there in his prime. He didn't get the respect that others did. Saying underrated is so overrated is so childish. @@giftedplanksify
Look back at his record sales and call him underrated.
Dumb ass racist.
God blessed this Earth with Jackson Browne!!! It's Sunday!!! Bless The Lord for He is Great!!!
Still one of my favorite songs… I’m 25 and I grew up on Jackson Browne! This song will always ring the bells of my childhood. I hope it never goes out of style.
Songs like this never go out of style my friend! Iconic songs will last forever :)
it never will as long as we teach our kids right...ima 56 yoa and ima glad to see someone 25 yoa who can appreciate this style of life...its a lifestyle not just a fad...pass it on youngin ...peace !.!.!.!.!
Thank you
Just turned 72 and still listening with awe at this talented man....❤
I'm here in 2022, still loving and listening to Jackson Browne and I am 65
One of those rare songs that floods you with nostalgia... even if you were never there.
💯
If you remember, you weren't really there anyway.
So awesome!!!
Cool, warm memory Brother. ❤

It was a VERY GOOD few years, I'm 67,and still listening!! How could you not!!!
Such a thoughtful comment 💕
Well said sweetie!
Don't love her too long. Or it will leave you lost and fubar. Love the love you shared and pack it up and move along to the next.
Hell yeah
From a 78 Y/O (69 Woodstock veteran) who has been there and back, Etta James was very correct in her synopsis of falling in love..."I'd rather go blind"!

That’s quite a beautiful story. I’ve loved this man’s music for 50 years, and these songs are certainly two of the best.
Really!Wow! super way to introduce yourself to strangers. Then they go,"Jackson, who?"
I was at that show - the night before I left for grad school.
The ability to write such a beautiful song is what we all dream of. Well done Jackson Browne.

@@RK807 Yeah, I guess Jackson Browne only wrote the Load Out portion. Still. Brilliant.
I’d give anything to write something as perfect as that piano intro. Maybe that’s why they talk about musicians “selling their souls to the devil.”
It's so nice to know that these songs are just as good now as I thought they were growing up to them. Man, what a time to be alive people!

I lov Jackson Browne here I am 2024 almost 64 yrs young 🎉🎉
It's a shame that a commercial comes on right at the split but thanks for having the full song here! This is 2023 and songs like this will always thrive! Jackson Browne is legendary as a songwriter/artist!

But as the song says "when the lights come up and we hear that crowd, and we remember why we came"
Love the fact that this is off an LP ❤
It reminds me my friend,my inaanak and my partner during college days at cabanatuan city,LARRY REYES!!

Those times seemed so much simpler compared to 2020! Listening to Jackson gives me hope music will get us through to the other side of this current abyss. “People,, we’ve got the power to get through this...””. Great times comin’ back...just wait a while longer!
My Brother passed in August of this year he was a Drummer this song always reminds me of him, I miss him
Not just one of my favorite Jackson Browne songs.
A real gem of an album..
..... Yeah.... What he said......
@Ely -- Ditto. But you know what I dont understand - how it is that one of his best songs ever ("You Love the Thunder") appears on no other album... There's no studio version!! One of the biggest oversights in the history of Rock music in my humble opinion!
I am rediscovering this all over again! the performance of the Last 50 years
Wow, this makes me want to go out and buy this CD. I already have a huge CD collection, but for some strange reason, I think this one is missing from it. I'll have to do something about that.

I always thought, these two songs together are the best Jackson ever created/recorded!
Spotify needs to have these two songs together, drives me crazy how they’re split up.
This song brings back alot of memories of my 1st real job when I was 17. I used to hear it every morning on the way to work. What a great time to be a teenager and for music in general
Now the seats are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They're the first to come and last to leave
Working for that minimum wage
They'll set it up in another town
Tonight the people were so fine
They waited there in line
And when they got up on their feet they made the show
And that was sweet ...
But I can hear the sound
Of slamming doors and folding chairs
And that's a sound they'll never know
Now roll them cases out and lift them amps
Haul them trusses down and get'em up them ramps
Cause when it comes to moving me
You guys are the champs
But when that last guitar's been packed away
You know that I still want to play
So just make sure you got it all set to go
Before you come for my piano
But the band's on the bus
And they're waiting to go
We've got to drive all night and do a show in Chicago
Or Detroit, I don't know
We do so many shows in a row
And these towns all look the same
We just pass the time in our hotel rooms
And wander 'round backstage
Till those lights come up and we hear that crowd
And we remember why we came
Now we got country and western on the bus, R&B
We got disco on eight tracks and cassettes in stereo
We got rural scenes and magazines
And we got truckers on CB
And we got Richard Pryor on the video
We got time to think of the ones we love
While the miles roll away
But the only time that seems too short
Is the time that we get to play
People you've got the power over what we do
You can sit there and wait
Or you can pull us through
Come along, sing the song
You know you can't go wrong
Cause when that morning sun comes beating down
You're going to wake up in your town
But we'll be scheduled to appear
A thousand miles away from here
People stay just a little bit longer
We want to play -- just a little bit longer
Now the promoter don't mind
And the union don't mind
If we take a little time
And we leave it all behind and sing
One more song--
Oh, won't you stay just a little bit longer
Please, please, please, say you will
Say you will
Oh won’t you stay
Just a little bit longer
Oh won’t you stay
Just a little bit longer
And the promoter don’t mind
And the roadies don’t mind
If we take a little time
And we leave it all behind and sing
One more song
Always love his stuff a true artist a rare gem
He has a studio in Nashville. I have a songwriter performer name of KEITH SYKES that helps produce there. Check out his #1 song "COME AS YOU BAR" KEITH COWROTE SONGS WITH JOHN PRINE and traveled with BUFFETT for a while.
