- The Tesla Model Y has long been the only compact luxury SUV you could buy, and while it’s got the typical Tesla cool factor, it’s never really provided a truly luxurious experience. In comes the Genesis GV60, the brand’s first bespoke electric vehicle. The GV60 aims to do what the Model Y does, but better - meaning high performance, excellent build quality and a properly luxurious interior. So, does the Genesis have Tesla beat? Or is the Model Y still king of this segment? Join Edmunds’ Lauren McCay in the video above to find out!

TESLA delivered over 100,000 + in CHINA in NOVEMBER 2022 and is Acceletrating.
TESLA is selling EVERY car in China it can while the DISCOUNT is in effect till end of 2022.
TESLA also selling ALL Tesla 3/Y @ DISCOUNT before the FED tax credit takes effect.
besides, TESLA already OUTSELL the Genesis GV60 , KIA , and Hyundai.
TESLA will OUTSELL Toyota gas cars soon.
TESLA outsells the GV60 in all 50 States in the UNION.
@@markplott4820 And for good reasons. EVs like GV60, IONIQ5, EV6 and Mach-E have to rely on charging network such as Electrify America, which is utter trash.
Can't wait for Tesla cry babies whining here as they see their ego getting hurt! Great job Edmunds on unbiased review!
FACTS are the Genesis GV60 is a GIMP car compared to TESLA model Y Performance or mod S .
First time seeing this host and she's delightful! Car reviews can be flat and analytical but she's bringing in friendly vibes to this space.
Edmunds continue its series:
Everything beats the Model Y….
I work at the port these are brought into the States. I get to see them quite early, I remember seeing the Ionq and thinking wow that's a great-looking car! But I wanted an SUV and then I saw these GV60 and holy crap! They didn't really talk about the color options these come in are amazing! They even offer matte finishes that look amazing, I'm not a fan of flashy colors but they have a Lambo green that looks way to good. The body lines of the car look sharp minus the charge port which is a random circle. This is a great car and sometimes I wish I got one but Tesla is king when it comes to charging and tech. I did a 3,000-mile road trip in a model Y and it was so chill and easy with charging. But if you need a car that only needs will be charging at home and not go on long-distance trips the GV60 is it! You should still qualify for the $7,500 tax credit too
@Bowie Bowie, it would be best if you learned proper grammar and how to do simple research. Please check Electrek they have a simple-to-read table of all vehicles that still qualify.
The host won us over, great job!
I completely agree. It's not too often you need to drive over 200 miles A-day, at least not where I live. I want the creature comforts, plug it in when I get home, Perfect.
The only challenge is you cannot buy it in all the states in the USA. You should list the states that currently offer the GV60.
It's in the states. I work in the place they are brought in from overseas. I see hundreds of them however I think they suffered from the chip-shortage quite a bit. They are some really good looking cars but I will stick with my Model Y
which makes the GV60 a compliance car.
Ayeeee! My favorite edmuds journalist is back! I agree with the assessment though. After trying out both cars, the Genesis is better
😂😂😂😂😂
Shes cute and very engaging. I'm happy to see her on here.
You're comparing a 2023 car to a used 2020 car?
Having rented a Model Y Long Range and test driven the GV60 I agree that the GV60 is the better vehicle. Much nicer interior, better ride quality and quieter.
2022 December Tesla all getting Upgraded comfort Suspension. not for TRACK use.
@@markplott4820 My rental was a 2022 MY Long Range which is supposed to be smoother and quieter than earlier versions of the MY. I wouldn’t call it harsh but it still rode firm and those low profile 35 series 20” performance tires certainly didn’t help. The active dampers in the GV60 Performance really impressed me with how smooth it was over bumps especially since it has 21” wheels.
I didn't want a Tesla because it's become bland. I narrowed in on the GV60 or Cadillac Lyric and waited to see what I could get first because demand was through the roof. I'm now the owner of a new Genesis GV60 and I couldn't be happier. The GV70 is my favorite design still but this has really grown on me. It looks way better in person and the interior space is even better. I could see cargo space or its battery range being less than model Y being an issue for some. However, it is a much nicer vehicle than a model Y in all other aspects and 💯 more distinctive.
Agreed I would want to stand out than being just another dude on the block! It's so common that people don't even care to even look at it anymore!
TESLA is the SPICYEST meatball arround , and model 3 like all Tesla can take RACING UPGRADES.
making Driving expierence even Spicyer.
As a Model Y Performance owner, I can say 3 things. First, GV60 looks more beautiful and luxury. Second, Super charger network is the best advantage Tesla has over other competitors. Thrid, that F**king glass roof and very weak air conditioning system makes you regret buying Tesla cars despite that OTA update, autopilot, games, huge frunk and Netflix. Unless you set the fan level 5 or higher, you are going to be very very uncomfortable in your car. But it will eat up your range substantially. 300 miles? NOT EVEN CLOSE!
I ve been owning GV60 in SoCal for over 6 months. My SO has Tesla Y. Hands down GV60 is better in all aspects. My SO is selling hisTesla and will get GV60 performance model.
I currently have a tesla and want to trade in for gv60 but my main issue is the Lack of servicing available. You know if something were to go wrong on a trip. Would like to know your experience with servicing and how accessible they are
It's not better in all aspects. The Model Y has a better sound system, far more room/space, more range and a better charging network. I would even argue that the tech of Model Y is better as the OTA updates and software are superior. Not to mention that the Model Y has sentry mode, something the GV60 doesn't have.
the GV60 has a better ride, better reliability, easier for drivers from non-EVs to transition into, better paint quality, durability, ventilated seats, and better rear vents/cooling.
The GV60 is nice but the model y long range still has my eye. Luxury is nice but I have different needs.
Wow. The Genesis GV60 is serious competition for Tesla, *_if_* Genesis can make enough of them. Is Genesis making a profit on the GV60?
Genesis was only company w/ profits other than TESLA.
but , profits were way lower than TESLA.
Genesis cant Produce units.
and Genesis uses CRAPPY Gimp EV platform.
Ms. Cleo reference. Ha! Great job hosting this episode. 👏
When I have long roadtrips, I want to relax at charging stations after 250 mile+ drives, not look up where I should charge next or back up plans in case chargers are full. I think this is what other manufacturers should be focusing on before gimmicks like crystal ball drive selectors or stitching. It's a car after all, not a wedding dress.
I love this journalist. She's so well spoken.
The GV60 and Model Y are incomparable. It's amazing that they have a similar price. Anyone who has sat in either of these cars knows what I'm talking about. GV60 is many steps above model Y. Design, quality, materials, feeling in the cabin.....incomparable.
model y is a big duffel bag, and a gv60 is an elegant designer purse 😂
Nice video
I remember a baby stroller taking up pretty much the entire cargo area of the gv60. Model Y’s cargo area appeared nearly twice the size
🤣🤣🤣 you're hilarious for the Ms. Cleo reference. This Genesis looks LEGIT, sadly I'm sure it'll be limited in numbers. I'll sell my new Model Y when I get my Lyriq
Gorgeous, especially inside!
Before watching- This should not be close. Genesis all the way.
Although I will maintain my choice in this segment is the Cadillac.
1:30 you just (accurately) referred to the model y as the past.
To Musk-rats that's gotta hurt.
No never Government Motors! Thats Americano! Worst build quality ever. Only buy Korean!
NO YOU DID NOT DO MISS CLEO WITH THAT CRYSTAL BALL! HAHAHAHAH
I wonder why Genesis bothers with a start button if you first use a fingerprint scanner. Its a superfluous step.
I do favor the subdued but still luxurious interior over the austere minimalist Tesla. I appreciate the speedometer etc are in front of the driver, not off to the side. I like the buttons too -- easy quick access. Those sunshades are great for Texas too!
Thanks for a great review. (By the way you are very cute too!)
The primary function of the fingerprint scanner is to unlock your profile so that the car sets up as you want it to - it's not able to start the car from it. But I think if you are using the face unlock surely that can then perform the function of the scanner?
Great video. Love the California girl vibe.
We have seen the Genesis EV60 Sport and had a test drive and now which to place an order.
We had a contact named Jerome and his email address but he never replies.
We have phoned the Customer Service number many times and spoke to different people but still can’t find out how to place an order.
Can you assist please?
I seen that gv60 in other places has a higher range of 300miles? Somebody commented theirs is at least 300miles is that accurate for only models in Korea?
It's funny how reviewers have to tip toe around saying that something is superior to a Tesla product in case they get hate mail from the fans. Speaks volumes about the fan base and the culture that the company has created.
she is a good presenter... no tattoos!!!
For those that haven't been in both, this smokes the Model Y. That fake wood plastic dash with nothing but a giant iPad gets old real fast. That might work for the younger crowd who don't know any better yet. But for those that know, there is no contest.
Yes, the Model Y has the advantage of the Supercharger network and a longer range, but BY FAR it's greatest advantage is having NO DEALERS who want to steal your $7,500 rebate (were the GV60 eligible) with markups. Those aside, it's all GV60. Those that say otherwise either haven't been in both, or haven't been in either.
The model Y is 4750mm long the GV60 4515mm (the GV60 is 23.5cm shorter nearly a foot) - that impacts available trunk space). A shorter car will appeal to some and not others.
But features like Heads up display, remote Self Parking, massage seats, finger print recognition, Bang and Olufsen stereo with cabin noise cancellation, napa leather and suede headliners and aluminium trim and switch gear just give a level of luxury befitting the price tag. Which isn’t the case in all 50K plus EV’s.
Personally I liked how compact the GV60 felt when I test drove it. It felt small and nimble and was much easier to maneuver in cramped urban parking lots. It still has enough room to seat four people comfortably with ample leg room. The GV70 electric will be coming out this spring for those looking for a larger trunk.
I wonder if this is the updated model Y that now has the updated OEM comfort suspension
No, the Y that Edmunds has is from model year 2020 and it has more than 25,000 miles already.
@@hchchc22 I know… that’s why I wondered if they compared it with the newly updated Y with the new suspension…
@@KuyaArbee Edmunds is comparing a brand new GV60 to a two year old Model Y with more than 25,000 miles. 🤣
If I have to take my EVs on long distance road trips, Tesla EVs are the only viable options.
@@hchchc22 YUP! Exactly! TESLA is the only car fully capable, hassle free pretty much go on full road trips

Gather around, children. That fortune teller bit was a reference to a scammer that had a show and hotline that you could call to get your fortune told, and paid for per minute. Her name was Miss Cleo and she adopted a Jamaican persona.
I love this host!!! For sake of the video GV60 > Model Y.
Never buy American! Worst build quality. Only support the Unions. Koreans are much better.
There are pros/cons to the Tesla control panel but it does have a volume button (on the steering wheel). If ride performance is about equal, why pay $10K+ more for a nicer dashboard, seat trim and window shades but less storage, shorter range and a sketchy charging network?
Well lets see, in the US in 2022Tesla sold 191K Model Ys and Hyundai Motors Group sold 37K GV60, Ioniq 5 and EV6s combined. So yes, I think Tesla can keep up.
Market has spoken!!
Cool💯💯. I love watching your videos… I actually plan on taking out at most, $200k from my ¢rypto investment to get something super cool and efficient but I'm afraid of making the wrong pick 🤦♂🤦♂
@Stephen Fortune Been there. I lost a lot at start until I started with with an expert broker, Debra Pace. I just met her a few months back and the result is already mind blowing
Frankly, Debra should be counted as one of the best in the financial and trading industry... I started with just $4k, so far I have withdrawn 25k which I channeled to my Airbnb business. I truly wish I met her earlier
She will break things down for you... This is her telegam-user below👇👇
"Debra_Pace" ✔💯
Debra is a really good💯. They are actually planning on adding DeFi protocols and facilitators like staking, lending etc. That will be a game changer and I can't wait for that to happen💵
This review is extremely one sided. From the range, cargo space, buttons, road noise. The reviewer continues to states the gv60 is good enough when comparing it the model y.
Is this Edmunds?
24 cu ft of storage space? A Honda Civic hatch has 24.5! I think we're going to have start calling the Civic a sport UTILITY vehicle now too.
As of 3/8/2023, Genesis 69k and the IRS site says "Hyundai Motor America:This manufacturer has entered into a written agreement with us to become a "qualified manufacturer" but hasn't yet submitted a list of specific makes and models that are eligible. Please check back here for updated information" While a Tesla Model Y Performance is 59k minus $7,500 Federal and $2,000 CA credit = $49,500 so 20k below the Genesis. So the Genesis is a better car despite being slower, has less storage, not as good charging infrastructure, less range...really??
But the Y is now $20K cheaper than last month. Change your mind::-)
No frunk, no sale.
It does have a small frunk - sufficient room for charging cables. But notably the GV60 is 24cm nearly a foot shorter than the Model Y making it easier to park, and negotiate around town and multi-story car parks- much more of an issue in Europe and the UK where city roads, parking spaces and multi-story car parks are very limited in width.
@@Antiguan_Dart They missed the mark on front packaging. A plastic bin is not a frunk. I do really like the 800V charging though. H/K/G are ahead of the game on this front. Brand new models are still stuck on 400V architectures.

Love This #Tesla Video
This girl is delightful 👍🏾
Although the GV60 is a nice car with several luxury features, when it comes to the most important features most people want when they think of the ultimate EV (or cars in general) this video left out the most important comparisons. As compared to the Tesla Model Y, The GV60 is more limited or inferior in the following ways: Safety (see Euroncap safety ratings for all categories including occupant protection and active safety performance), cargo capacity (granted this one was mentioned), front trunk space, access to a reliable DC charging system for proper road tripping, ability to quickly get in and drive (finger print scan and start button limits ability to just go in the GV60), drivers assist technology (GV60 limited to highways while Tesla's FSD beta is a full featured system which is approaching a defacto "chauffeur mode"), Tesla's Model Y Performance is faster in acceleration than the GV60, efficiency of the GV60 significantly worse than the Model Y (only 90 MPGe for the GV60 vs 123MPGe for the Model Y), and entertainment options are better in the Tesla during charging. All around, the Tesla is more compelling if you want a car with virtually zero limitations.
thank you tesla fanperson
Thanks for the review! While I disagree with the choice, it's good to know more good EVs are on the way. I highly encourage you to test the new 2023 Model Y. Suspension and build quality are far improved. Just picked up mine and it was literally near perfect. Tesla charging network should be weighted more until better EV charging is available
They don’t want fair. Tesla has had a target on their back since day 1 and it’s even larger now that Musk is pushing back against corrupt politicians.
TESLA likely to include HD radar in 2023 models.
Yes, the 2023 Model Y's suspension design has been fine tuned for a more comfortable ride. The Model Y that Edmunds has is a 2020 model.
Model Y: Space, charging network. GV60: Everything else.
Only Hyundai. Tesla can not do charging, batteries, software, speed, reliabilty, punch in the back when you don't expect it. Only Koreans can build cars. Never buy American!
Tesla will be opening up the Supercharger network soon.
@@42dunbar And the Cybertruck will be out...soon. Along with FSD and the Roadster. You can't make a product purchase based on Elon's prognostications. He's done some amazing stuff, but accurate timelines are definitely not his thing.
@@jghall00 Remember though, Elon has never met a government subsidy he doesn’t like. He will open up the Supercharger network to get his hands on the Inflation Reduction Act infrastructure spending.
@@wolfgangpreier9160 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you crazy. No EV manufacturer comes close to Tesla in every metric. And don't even start with the higher voltage gimmick.
Congratulations to the Gv60 for taking the crown 👑 for the King Of EV'S. so we'll deserving from the Korean automaker, Genesis! Keep it up Hyundai motor group.
TESLA model Y alone is OUTSELLING genesis GV60.
also outselling every KIA/Hyundai EV as well
@@markplott4820 be that as it may, This is the first year Hyundai started selling any of their EGMP evs. This time next year check in with Me and see if your logistics are still the same 🤡
GV60 is very nice but I would pick Model Y. Better sport handling, more practical cabin storage and Tesla Supercharger network makes a better choice for my needs. Our EV charging infrastructure besides Tesla is a big mess.
Yes I agree the Genesis over the Tesla , I bought a GV 60 back in Aug I love the car and I do agree with you on the center console make it deeper and get rid of the pass through its to hard to get at to be any use, also a sliding console like in the Ioniq 5 would have been nice , there is a volume control on the steering wheel which is what I use which is better than the roller one on the console. Great review I am happy you picked the GV 60.
Damn🧐
Start button.... Boost button... Shifter ball.... LOL Even if the Genesis had a reliable charging network I would never choose that over the Model Y. Imagine a phone company putting a physical keyboard on an iPhone competitor in 2023.... Genesis interior is horrible after living with Teslas for years. Not to mention that batteries are extremely important in an EV, and nobody can match Tesla's chemistry and form factor.
Why can’t you charge a non-Tesla with a Tesla charger? Seems silly for every manufacturer to build their own charging network.
Tesla asked Ford & gm more than a DECADE ago to build supercharger, they refused.
So, it's slower, has less storage, not as good charging infrastructure, less range and cost more.
Also, the rear seat can't hold anyone over 5'10" without hitting their head.
Yet it won.
With real-world use, my family, I can't buy this just cause it looks nice and has a little lead in tech
With the price of the Model Y Performance now being $56,990.... the GV60 suddenly looks terribly overpriced.
We need legislation to develop specifications for consistent charging across all platforms.
Tesla NACS connector
Maybe compare the 2023 Tesla to the 2023 GV60?! Pretty stupid comparing a new model vehicle with something a few years old. The '23 Model Y has several significant updates. Two thumbs down for this bogart review 🖖
WHILE I LIKE THE GV LINEUP
THEY CANNOT MAKE ENOUGH OF THESE TO BE PROFITABLE. TO MAKE EVs AT A LOSS IS NOT COMPETITION TO TESLA ITS COMPETITION FOR EVERYONE ELSE THATS DOING THE SAME. THE RACE IN EVs IS FOR 2ND PLACE WE ALREADY HAVE A WINNER NO MATTER HOW U SPIN IT.
model y the way to go gv 60 small no space plus tesla chargers are better alot more available gv60 a wanna be tesla infrustructure alot better
okay tesla fanboy. LOL
@Darkivaz-AAA not fan boy just stating facts
There are things to like, but some of the negatives! A lot of steps to get the car to drive...1. i figure foot on brake, finger print, start button, ball rotate, then select then go. 2. eyes off the road it you want to use traditional buttons on the counsel. 3. A boost button? Why can't you just press on the accelerator pedal?
There was no need to cus tho.
No Genesis sucks, Model Y P is better and always will be. Too bad Tesla doesn't care about your channel and doesn't have a PR department that coddles to you like Genesis does.
Nice review but I absolutely don´t like the voice of the lady. Made me switch to the end of the video.
No Tesla is luxury certainly not the 3 and the Y the materials and build quality are good at best .
But it’s so expensive. Also, crappy charging network. Also, no tax credit. Also, it’s so expensive.
They're all expensive right now... The point was a comparison for folks who can afford to cross-shop them.
It starts at 60K, which is comparable to other vehicles in this class. EA charging network is ok, depending on where you live and where you go. I suspect for most people, this isn't their only vehicle and 90% of miles driven are relatively close to home anyway.
@Mark Allen On what basis do you characterize the non-Tesla public networks as 'crappy'? If you add up EA, Blink, Chargepoint, and EVGo, they probably have more L3 EVSE stations in operation than Tesla. Here where I live on the US east coast I'd say availability of Tesla and CCS L3 charging locations is about on par. Of course ymmv depending on where you live and drive but I think the 'crappy public charging' claim leveled as a disadvantage of non-Tesla vehicles has become almost a quasi-political talking point repeated by Elon stans uncritically and without any real basis in fact or experience.
Hyundai is much cheaper than Model Y. And you should not buy American! You should always buy imports. Koreans build the best cars.
@@MLHunt "they probably have more L3 EVSE stations in operation than Tesla. " No they have not. Only about 2/rds of them. But Tesla is much too expensive becaue they have much too many outlets noboy needs.

Are you for real? I'm not pro Tesla in any means, but you name the GV60 as a better EV despite being slower, has less storage, not as good charging infrastructure, less range and cost more, and not nearly as good a software package, which are the main features of an EV.. How on earth can u conclude it's a better car?

Worst Genesis design ever. I won't buy this even if I was just waking up from sleep. I'll rather buy the Ioniq 5

I may be in the minority, but the GV60 is ugly. Hate those beady eyed headlights, they're ugly on all Genesis vehicles and ugly here too.
Get over it lady , Model Y is now dated and have not seen significant upgrade for its price. Ya, Tesla has its own charge stations spread all across the country. But, its there in the market for quite a long time.
Keep in mind there is no HUD in Model Y, keep taking your eyes off the road for sure, you will meet your maker very quickly and urgently...
Hyundai Gv60 67K vs Top of the line 57K for an ionic5. I think I will skip the crystal ball and settle with ionic5. Did I miss a HUD on GV60 or it's not there ? But you blew away the a review with the same old , same old thing. falling in love and not being rational. Trunk space , drag racing wins are are all meaningless.
