I had a craving for taco soup, so of course, I looked for a video from you - who else? And, of course you had one! Your soup looked delicious, and I can't wait to taste. It's what's for lunch tomorrow. I just finished cooking my black beans after soaking them all night. I love living in Italy, but to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of pasta. So, when I get a craving for American food, I make my own. I'll let you know how it turned out! As always, thanks for the recipes!
I reccomend soy meat! You can find find "ground beef" texturized soy protein, or also called "soy curls". I recommend boiling in in some water that just covers it with your seasonings and some soy sauce for umami flavors. Then proceed to fry it a little with some oil and the onions and continue as normal, so good!!
This sound good; I'm Mexican and even though not traditional it looks soooo good. I love your videos and all your cooking . You should make a traditional Tortilla soup video one day ! With your Mom ! Saludos de Mexico !!!
"Extruded lines" 😂 you are speaking to me with that, I have some food "phobias" & you nailed that one!! Lol It might be Spring here in Chicagoland, but brrrr! This is going to be the PEFECT dinner tonight, for this cloudy Monday & I know my taco obsessed hubby thanks you already!♥️✌
I made this last week and it turned out great! I used beef broth instead with some garlic and tomato paste per the old recipe and it was delicious. Definitely a keeper recipe!
Ranch that's interesting? Will have to try this recipe. I made the Tres Leches cake and almost ate the whole thing. The first time I had it was at my nieces QUINCEANERA and it was soooooo good. Then I saw your video and had to try it.🤗👍🙏
My family loves tacos and I'm sure they would love this. They love all your recipes. We just made your chocolate chip cookies yesterday and they are all gone already lol. I'm going to double the cookie recipe this time. I'm definitely going to make this tacos soup tonight. Thank you for sharing 💜
That ranch seasoning really does something special to this soup. One of my easy go-to favs 👍🏻. I would love to hear more of your easy weeknight dinner ideas that please the whole family.
Would love to know reason for adding ranch mix at end? I wonder if it makes a difference when added or good when re heated. This is first time in my life I have cooked with ranch dry soup mix. I am making this soup recipe tonight, so delish but curious about the ranch soup mix timing!
@@lollyv5806 I think it has to do with the milk compounds in the mix. If heated too much it can curdle. Best to be safe and add it closer to the end of cook time.
Oh I am gonna try this but put tortilla strips on top with the other goodies! Thank You for your wonderful tips!!! I come back every time because you are easy to follow and everything is Ah-mazing!!!
I make a version of this for me at least once a month. I’m single and a pot lasts me about three days! I use a lot more tomatoes and beef broth instead of water but your recipe looks amazing!
My mom made this all the time when I was a kid! It’s still one of my go-to winter meals. My family uses ground chicken or turkey because we don’t eat beef or pork. A few tweaks to your recipe that I really enjoy are using chicken broth (or your choice of stock) instead of water, adding a drained jar of pickled jalapeños, canned green beans for a veggie addition, kidney beans, and a jar of salsa. And of course, the amount of stock/water needs to be increased because of the added volume of other ingredients. I use sodium free beans, corn, and chicken broth because the taco seasoning and salsa already has plenty of sodium. Your video was great as always!
Hi John, just made this today. Came out delicious.! I gave it a few tweaks, I didn’t have rotelle so I used tomato paste also instead of one and a half cups of beef broth. I used instead 4 cups of beef broth. this was still super tasty!!
Love the sound of this recipe EXCEPT when you got to the point where you added the packaged 'ranch dressing' powder? What are the ingredients in that? (I'm concerned it has a lot of preservatives being a packaged powder?) I also wouldn't use just any corn as non~organic corn is all GMO now! I've also recently learned most avocados showing up in our grocers now are coated with Apeel with (i) doesn't have to be declared; and (ii) does NOT wash off! (shame on Katy Perry and Oprah Winfrey!) Just some respectful information and feedback ... I would really like to know what the 'ranch dressing' ingredients are, or the 'flavor profile' you are aiming for when adding same at the end of the cooking process! Thanks
My taco soup recipe is almost identical to this! Only, I like to add a can of either red enchilada sauce, or condensed tomato soup. Sometimes both! I've never tried it with the ranch seasoning though... might have to try that next time!!!
Thank goodness you said you prefer 80/20!!! I think that the low fat/high carb myth is over. Of course, replaced by a new myth but at least we’re only dealing with one myth at a time!
I haven't tried this yet, but I'm going to double the recipe and save what's left over in a quart size freezer bag to have again when the weather turns cold and I don't feel like cooking.
I have been making this for 20 years. the difference is I chop celery and add to the onion and meat. Also I used 4 cans beans. (1 pinto, 1 kidney, 2 black bean)
I love your site. I have a request, mybe an idea for future shows. Know that it's getting hot, and their are many like me that's A/C not so great, do you have some tasty meals that could be fixed with a lower amount of heat. Thanks, from a fan in humid climate (in the summer) state of WV.
Do you think you might show us how to make a Ukrainian dish? I am not Ukrainian but I’m curious about their culture and I want to support them during this time. And also who doesn’t want to try new food just to try it?? (Some people don’t and honestly that’s so sad for them, but I won’t let those losers get in my way lol.)

Just tried it! Used beef broth instead of water. Delicious! 🎉🎉🎉
The taco soup looks great John! And really fun to make as well 😋😋😊
It was! THANK YOU!!
@@PreppyKitchen you're welcome!
@@PreppyKitchen Did you drain the meat?
@@skip031890 Why would he need to? There was only 10% fat. There’s no need to drain all that flavor away even when you use 80/20.
@@CreamyJalapeno That's why I'm asking the question. You don't have to be smart about it. 🙄
Such a great meal on the fly . Made a double batch . Froze one and ate the other for dinner. It freezes well.
I’ve made this several times. My favorite to keep going back too !

That looks so good. I'm not sure about the ranch but does sound good.
:0 ohh im definitely gonna make this
Hey John, any way you can make a tutorial showing how to make an olive oil cake?
Hey, John, we're vegetarians. What do we substitute for the ground beef? Or can we just leave it out?
Another commenter mentioned lentils.

Looks delicious!
Delicious!
Thank you 😋
I have found that if you steam a leaner beef in water, it will be fine. Please let me know what you think.
Yummy
I had no idea that Johnny Knoxville could cook.
Can you make chili pleas
Links to spice trays? I've never seen this. Brilliant.
Congratulations you just made Chili
Would it be ok to make a double batch and freeze half in a glass quart jar?
I freeze mine in zip lock brand bowls with a screw top lid
@@juliemarquez4274 thanks Julie!! I want to have some ready meals for camp this fall. I dislike heating up water to do all the cooking dishes
Guys trust me, add a packet or two of ranch dip seasoning to it. LIFE CHANGING in taco soup omg
YES! I love it that way!!!!!
Love the flavor, however it does make too salty . Next time I will use no salt veggies and I think it wull be fine.
It's probably the MSG in it
Too much sodium .
I’m making this soup right now. And I’ll try that ranch seasoning!

I rarely eat beef as it does not digest well for me; ground turkey is my go-to but I "beef" it up with Worcestershire sauce.

Thank you 😋
I am going to try it tomorrow to feed people outside. With love from Ukraine❤️🇺🇦

Whenever i wing it and make my own taco soup it is funnily enough this exact recipe pretty much. Just without the ranch. I have to try that next time!

Add 1 packet of Hidden Valley Ranch packet & always use beef broth(or beef broth seasoning) instead of water to add flavor. 😊
Everything looks good except for the black beans and ranch dressing powder that most likely has MSG. Certainly not traditional.
I'm curious why drain the corn but not the black beans? I usually drain everything, but really curious why the difference

Why is it that I don't like cilantro or cumin, because I'm not used to them? I don't like ranch, either.
Can I add green bell peppers bruh on?
Oh my gosh I love your spice cabinet, nearly big enough for me. Your cookbook has been order since day one.
Loods good but, since today's my birthday, I think I'll ask for one of your cakes instead.
John, why isn't your spice drawer arranged alphabetically? :)
So tell me, did you add a packet of taco seasoning along with the cumin, chilli powder and paprika?
I genuinely have no idea how people can eat onion and cilantro. Absolute deplorable flavors that really don't belong in anything
I want to try this but I’m worried that the ranch seasoning g packet will make it too salty…maybe I’ll try half or a table spoon and see how it goes…
and john shows the world that his spice cabinet is not in alphabetical order!
Can you add past to this like small macaroni? If so, when would you add it and how would you adjust the liquids?
