I made this soup for my sister who has cancer. She turned her nose up at most foods, but absolutely loved this soup as well as the rest of my family. Thank you for offering it to us all!,

For those who don't have, can't have, or don't want to use bacon, use butter and a little smoked paprika in the beginning. To approximate the bacon topping at the end, sprinkle some fried sage leaves.
This is in my opinion the best cooking channel on youtube. The fact that you convert the measurements to non-cups, so the rest of the world can use these recipes as well, is icing on the cake. :)
I literally saw this video this afternoon and had almost all the ingredients. Ran to the store got what I needed. Soup is done and omg I'm not joking, this is delicious. Wish I could show you the picture. Thank you so much for the recipe. It's a keeper for me.
I agree, wish you could attach pics. So often, after I've done a recipe from UA-cam and want to show the contributor that it came out well I wish I could post it. But then I guess everyone would be adding pictures and the posts would be too long.
I was literally gonna comment the same thing. As John was listing them off, I was going "ooh, I have that already" in my head. Just need a few more things and I think corn chowder is gonna be on the menu for tonight.
I absolutely love that there is no cream or flour used to thicken ❤ thank you for showing us these recipies, im improving as a cook because of you. When i first made this my milk broke, now its perfect, made it with olive oil, and coconut milk. Love the zero waste with the cobs too
I’ve been making this for years! After taking the cobs out, I scrape them then only mash a few potatoes against the side of the pan. At last, I add a sour cream then the bacon back. We eat it all year round using the corn I scraped off the cob and froze.
Oh, my goodness… that looks divine. I love thick soups. And what’s not to like about corn? Very clever to throw in the corn cobs, too, for the extra flavor.
This is so good! I didn't want to go to the store for just potatoes, so I cheated and added some instant potato flakes until I got just the right texture😊. It worked! Thanks John
i made this chowder for my Harvest Home Bible study meeting ... we break bread together and I wanted to do something simple with ingredients on hand. This was delicious and hearty too! I love your tips on making it extra smooth with the blender. I used fresh thyme and bacon in mine. Delish!!!
That looks delish. I was raised by an Alabama mama and we always 'scrape the cob and get all that goodness out'. Not sure if I am using the right adj. but we use a butter knife so that nothing hard gets into whatever dish is being cooked. Anyway that looks alot easier by letting the heat do the work!! Thanks
I made your corn chowder on Sunday. I followed your recipe to the letter and it was gorgeous. Everyone loved it. I will make this again. My sister in law will be tuning in. She wanted the recipe. I told her where to find it.
I've made many of your recipes. All of them made me and my family very happy! This one I'm making on a cold, rainy evening. Made it before so I know this will be perfect for this evening.
I make something like this a lot in large batches. I use silicon molds to freeze serving portions. 1 or 2 cups sizes. I then vacuum seal the frozen blocks and put them in the deep freezer. Anytime I want good soup, I toss a bag into the sous vide and it's as if I just made it. Great way to make food.
That looks so good, I can almost smell it through the internet. You are a very talented person and you seem to have such a pleasant personality that it's really nice to watch you and listen to you.
You could also add a few lightly toasted slivered almonds at the last! I use slivered almonds and a drizzle of honey on my pumpkin soup and it's fantastic!!❤
saw your video, realized I have (most) all the ingredients...60 mins later I was eating this chowder and it was great! I was able to use the corn my neighbor grew, use the potatoes, onion, garlic, carrots that I grew and I happened to have the rest on hand....I did add a bay leaf and dropped the celery since I did't have any but it was still a very very good chowder. I doubled the pepper and added Sriracha to my cup of chowder before topping with bacon and it was delish.
I just made this corn chowder today and it was a hit!! So yummy and easy to make! I used can corn which is what we had on hand, 2% milk & heavy cream for some richness and to thicken it up, I used a little cornstarch/cold water slurry at the end. This is a keeper recipe! Thank you!!
Made this delicious soup twice now and boy it doesn't disappoint! One of my favorites now, and even better the next day. Will definitely be in my rotation of soups this fall.
Hi Jon. I’m made your recipe today. I’m using one large, peeled jalapeño instead of celery because I’m in Mexico and that’s what we prefer. I also added paprika, cinnamon and oregano. This is so delicious. Thank you.
Corn chowder always makes me think of The Devil Wears Prada and it has never seemed appetizing. This actually looks beautiful and so yummy that I HAVE to try it now!
Hi John, I made this recipe today for my husband and myself. It was our first time eating corn chowder, and it was wonderful 😊 Thank you for the recipe!
I also would suggest, that the soup is made without the milk and simmered or even low boiled until the potatoes are tender. A few Bay Leaves and red Pepper flakes would be good. At that point. You can purée half of the solids with the Milk (remove the Bay leaves). Then add that mixture to the pot and raise the temperature. Then add the bacon (and Cheddar Cheese) and serve. This way you ensure that you won’t boil your milk!
i’ve never wanted to eat something so bad through a screen lol I’m definitely trying this & super appreciate the fact that there aren’t too many rich ingredients like cream/cheese/butter ❤
Great recipe! Thank you for sharing! Was able to use up fresh garden veggies on a cool end of summer day. ❤️ I added jalapeño and an underripe poblano pepper since the rain knocked my plants over the other day. Delicious!!
I use shred hashbrowns, cream style corn & sweet corn (1 can of each) 1 box of chicken broth, 1/2 cup of half N half, 1 block of fat free cream cheese, 1 prefer shredded carrots. Sometimes diced up mushrooms. I like adding Perdue seasoned carved chicken for my protein. This chef looks tasty 👅
That is the key trait of corn chowder. The chowder part where all the corn is processed. If you are in a hurry, just get cans of creamed corn. I use gold spuds, but I also toss in a few red spuds for Ss and Gs. Mash those up too as they add to the chowder.
Excellent chowder however the next time I make it I’ll probably start it with a Rue to thicken it a little bit more and add a couple tablespoons of butter to add some richness to the chowder. I’ll probably add fresh shrimp as well toward the end for additional flavor. Excellent base recipe. Thank you for sharing.
I’m making it now and so wish I had made a roux as mine is very watery. I haven’t puréed any yet so maybe that will make a difference. I am also adding shrimp, and topping it with bacon and crispy mushroom and crispy jalapeños. I used more Cajun seasoning to add heat.
This looks so yummy - can't wait to get some fresh corn and try it. I think I will let the corn cobs cool a little and scrape out any of the soup that they absorbed to get every last bit of flavor. Thanks for another great recipe!
Can’t wait to make this savory celebration of summer! I also received your book in the mail today and am excited to peruse it. The photos are gorgeous - and so is the cook! BTW, I’m going to reserve a bowl to add jalapeños as an experiment.
Can i say this looks amazing John! As someone who avoids lactose, great to know i can simply use milk and still get a creamy, tasty 🌽 chowder! Thanks!🙏
Birgit...This is how I clean a cob...Since I freeze a fair amount of fresh sweet corn in the summer for winter and spring soups, my grandmother showed me how to use a cabbage slicer to clean a cob. Modeled after hers, I made one from hard maple with an adjustable height stainless blade. Clean the kernels then apply light pressure to the cob to get the milk in the bowl. No milk spray in the prep area and fast and easy. I've never used a knife to clean a cob.

We were very poor. My Dad made corn chowder by using cans of creamed corn with milk as a base. It was so good.
My dad would make this for us. When my mom was sick. He didn't cook much but we loved this
Us too my Mom would make it for us....
That is how I make mine
Humble times. Me too 🙏🏽
Very good idea
Just made this today. Frozen corn, plant based whole milk, and a couple of jalapenos. WOOHOO. So good.
😂love that
For those who don't have, can't have, or don't want to use bacon, use butter and a little smoked paprika in the beginning. To approximate the bacon topping at the end, sprinkle some fried sage leaves.
My husband can NEVER leave me because of all the delicious things I make from John’s videos.
I made this and ate it for three days and loved every spoonful! Thank you 🙂 My son said it was the best corn chowder he ever ate.
This is in my opinion the best cooking channel on youtube. The fact that you convert the measurements to non-cups, so the rest of the world can use these recipes as well, is icing on the cake. :)
As someone who uses a scale to measure ingredients, John is my hero
I literally saw this video this afternoon and had almost all the ingredients.
Ran to the store got what I needed.
Soup is done and omg I'm not joking, this is delicious.
Wish I could show you the picture.
Thank you so much for the recipe. It's a keeper for me.

I figuratively saw this video and I want to literally try to make this corn chowder.
I’m trying it right now-I had everything needed except my corn is frozen, not fresh cobs. I’m sure it will be fantastic. What’s not to like?
I absolutely love that there is no cream or flour used to thicken ❤ thank you for showing us these recipies, im improving as a cook because of you. When i first made this my milk broke, now its perfect, made it with olive oil, and coconut milk. Love the zero waste with the cobs too
Very simple and delicious recipe! Thank you for sharing!
I made this corn chowder, it's still on my stove, and it is fabulous! John every recipe I try of yours goes in my permanent cook book. Thanks so much!
Adding a tblsp or two of sour cream or greek yogurt on top with sprinkled cheese adds a little richness too! Great recipe
I’ve been making this for years! After taking the cobs out, I scrape them then only mash a few potatoes against the side of the pan. At last, I add a sour cream then the bacon back. We eat it all year round using the corn I scraped off the cob and froze.
I made this soup a few weeks ago. I didn't have celery or carrots but it was absolutely delicious. I impressed myself. LOL My new favorite soup.
You are an amazing culinary teacher! Simple and easy to understand. Thank you!
That soup looks fabulous. I love corn chowder. Actually, I love any thick soup. What a great idea to throw in the cobs for extra flavor, too!!
Oh, my goodness… that looks divine. I love thick soups. And what’s not to like about corn? Very clever to throw in the corn cobs, too, for the extra flavor.

I make this kind of chowder with my left over turkey from Thanksgiving. My husband eats the entire pot!! Loves it!!!
John, this looks fabulous! Wait until all that beautiful summer corn is ready to pick! It will be a-🌽maize🌽-ing!!
🤩
I've made many of your recipes. All of them made me and my family very happy! This one I'm making on a cold, rainy evening. Made it before so I know this will be perfect for this evening.
All these years of making corn chowder, I've been tossing the cobs in the bin! What was i thinking!? 😭
Get ALL that flavor out! Hope you enjoy!
My momma always scrapes the cob with her knife to get the “juice” to add
Sooo yummy 😋
Hot mama
@@ritatannehill7487 yes, that's what I do.
Whenever I feel like making something specific, I know you've got the video.
My favorite soup brought to a new level! Serve with a raw vegetable salad and crusty whole grain bread.... heaven!
Love your recipes, John! Greetings from Lebanon 🇱🇧

Thank you, this looks amazing. Very smart to add the cobs. I would top with fresh chopped parsley and dill.
I'm single and love soup. So, I food prep ❣️ I make a huge batch and then portion it out and put it in the freezer. Soup on demand..❤

Holy Corn, this soup truly does look "amazing"! Giving this one a two thumbs upper. ♥
I love corn chowder. I am not inclined to add meat, so thank you for mentioning that is optional!
Yummy.
This is such a great recipe! I've made it a few times already and it is perfect for cold winter days!

Que prato lindo!! Saudações do Brasil 🇧🇷 🎉!!!
Heck yeah that blending a bit of it at the end is awesome. I do a few things differently and am looking forward to trying your way
This looks so yummy - can't wait to get some fresh corn and try it. I think I will let the corn cobs cool a little and scrape out any of the soup that they absorbed to get every last bit of flavor. Thanks for another great recipe!

I added shallots long with the garlic and it was amazing.

Chowder like this perfect for my immersion blender.
Can i say this looks amazing John! As someone who avoids lactose, great to know i can simply use milk and still get a creamy, tasty 🌽 chowder! Thanks!🙏
coconut milk works just as well and you don't taste the coconut!
I have just made your corn chowder, delicious, you almost dont need to add the bacon in the end. thank you.
You’re amazing I love how you talk so passionate and easy ❤❤❤❤😊
If you take the back of your knife and scrape the cobs, you get all the corn cream, which makes the chowder oh so rich.
Someone i know just told me today they were going to store for ingredients to make their corn chowder. I found your acct bc I had a margarita on a patio this aft.... was looking up margarita ingredients. Now here I am watching your corn chowder video. Yum! Looks like Ill be making this shortly! I use corn in my creamy clam chowder btw and love that pop of sweetness you get when you bite into a kernel!
Been craving some chicken corn chowder, so here I am. Since it isn't corn season I am going to try that tube of frozen creamed corn corn.
I really like making corn chowder like this.
I have corn I need to use!!! This is perfect timing
I have tried the butter cake, as well as the chicken pot pie soup, Both my family and I loved. Can't wait to try this one.
Love you John! This looks so Wonderful!
