I wish you were my dr because you seem really logical when it comes to aiding in weight loss using prescriptions. My GP before told me to "Lay off of junk food" but I really had been on a diet, but it resulted in binging on carbs :( So basically I believe something like phentermine which controls appetite could have helped me years ago if my dr didnt just tell me exercise more eat less.. but instead gave me something to really help me do that! Now Im making an appointment with a weight loss clinic that uses b12 shots and phentermine and I hope I see results. Thanks! More drs need to be like you because being obese gives so many life threatening risks! and it really sucks and makes people feel trapped .
Phentermine was a complete disaster for me. Did not sleep for days even on sleeping tablets. Tried low dose Topamax, absolutely love it. Definitely lifted my mood, low appetite, weight is just falling off, hardly any noticable side effects. Will try and stay on lowest dose possible but I'm in love with life again.
I just started on this medication after seeing my new doctor who is an internist. I didn’t have a clue what Phentermine was but he said it was an appetite suppressant. We had discussed my need to lose weight, I had gained 40 pounds in 4 months. I’m 5’1” and before starting this medication was at 191. I’m hoping to be able to stay on this medication more than 3 months because it has REALLY helped with appetite and energy!! I know that exercise will only help me keep that energy level up all the time. It’s been 4 days and I lost 5 lbs (of water) but also started my cycle today. I normally bloat just before my cycle so I was happy about the weight loss, even if it is water. Thank you SO MUCH for doing these videos, they are life changing. I feel so much better about taking this now.

Weight loss is not only about eating less, there are several hormonal issues (like hypothyroidism, adrenal issues, insuline resistance, etc) that will make it extremely difficult for some people to lose weight. Even with the cutting out of fatty/sweet foods from their diet. For these people losing weight is not a matter of eating less and moving more, the hormonal issues slow the metabolism and prevent the body from getting rid of extra weight. These people need medications like that otherwise they’ll stay at an unhealthy weight and develop even more serious health issues.
I took Topomax for chronic migraines and although it actually cured my chronic migraines, it gave me brain shocks and speech problems that caused me to go to speech therapy for stuttering and word-retreival trouble! Odd fact: Topomax made it so I couldn't taste any carbonation so I did stop drinking any sodas...
I've been on topiramate for years as an adjunctive medication for epilepsy. I've also had the speech/word retrieval problems, very minor though. Very negative thoughts. I'm switching to Depakote as we speak. It's a terrible drug.
I started this on Friday (8/4/17) and On Sunday (8/6/17) I weighed myself and I lost 6 pounds !!! I started at 204 and no joke i had to weigh myself 7× bc I thought it was wrong lol. This stuff works wonders !!!! I never thought i was going to get out of the 200's 😣 But I did 😆 As of today (8/7/17) I weigh 197 😊
Nefertiti Townes That's great !!! I stalled at 185 for about a month now but recently I broke it idk how but I did lol can't be mad at that . I actually stopped taking it for a month and just been taking it every other day or couple of days. I've actually been really hard to control myself I have been eating bad sadly but very suprised I still lost weight I am now 180 . Not advising in anyway to do bad lol that was just me. Keep up whatever ur doing bc it's working 😃
Hello, try taking it a half hour before any meal. The dose can also be split into twice during the day. You can always try a different medication such as contrave, topamax, or victoza if you have no medical reason that these would be contraindicated.
I'm also interested in this question. I have been taking phentermine 8 weeks. Maybe the last two weeks I've noticed my appetite returning. My dr has suggested topamax, but I'm a little worried about the side effects? Any suggestions would be helpful.

@@annafelipe6500 Really? Yes, definitely from my doctor. I had never even heard of these pills until my doctor talked about them with me and prescribed them. But still having never heard of them is why I'm on UA-cam trying to find out more. I used to go to a doctor who refused to prescribe anything and would come up with stories like "they don't make those" or "I'm not allowed" my favorite one was "there's no such thing as inhaler" when my daughter needed it for asthma 🤣. Needless to say, we got rid of that doctor. Do you go to regular family physician?
I’ve been on Phentermine for 3 months and I’m down 26 lbs (with exercise & healthy eating) but it’s getting harder now so my doctor prescribed topamax to add to the Phentermine. I started today! I slept sooo good😂. Let’s see where this takes my weight loss journey!
i am currently taking this combo. there is a pharmacy where i live that is compounding this for me. day 3 and so far I have not been hungry what so ever. I eat a little because i don't want my blood sugar to dip.
Phentarmine made me painfully constipated. I'm not on Topiramate. I'm on my 2nd dose. I'm surprised that I don't think about food. But it's only two days, so we'll see. I'm also on a path to gastric sleeve surgery. BMI 41, 5'10" 289#. I'm hoping Topiramate helps me cope as a tool until I get to the next tool which is sleeve surgery.
Yes that is one of the things it will do I am the same way! U have to eat a lot of fiber in your diet or take the chewables or u can take a laxative Phillips milk of magnesia one a week it works faster and smoothly with no cramping! I prefer this way because all of what u have eaten is binded up and a good cleanse helps the process of the pills! And drink LOTS of water u will be surprised how much fluid u have built up in u!
Phentermine constipated me too so I took supplements to help with that. I lost 26 lbs in 3 months and started having a harder time so my doctor added Topamax to my weight loss program. Let’s see where this goes!
I'm really bummed out. I'm on day two of the phentermine-topiramate mix and im all over the place. Tired AF and very moody/emotional. Going to try for two weeks to see if ill stabilize but im not sure if I can handle this. BUT! Im not hungry! 😌

@Jennifer A exactly as I stated girl. I felt so shitty for some reason...but I was not hungry AT ALL. Not even thirsty, which led to getting a UTI. Not fun. I lost about 14lbs in 3 weeks. I couldn't handle the side effects but everyone has a different physiology

I was taking phentermine and 5HTP for years. I learned a lot from my doctor who monitored me everywhere months. With his help, Ive been abled to maintain a healthy weight. I do not take any other meds. But, he retired and now I'm gaining weight. I don't want to develop diabetes or any disease in order to get phentermine. I lost weight but ended up with drop foot from Topamax. It effected my brain in the way I couldn't think properly. The drop foot went away after stopping the drug. I'm taking Ozempic now with good results.
I’ve been taking peroxetine for almost a year now. I found that when I started weaning off the anti depressant the effects of the duromine decreased. Started the anti depressant again and it’s working like a charm

The toprimax alone I lost 16 lbs didn’t need the other med at all I only take 25mg at night and I sleep great ...i have no other side effects .. the sleeping is great lol yayyy
I take phentermine 15mg and trokendi 150mg they work really good together I take them around 9-10am I just notice that the effects were off around 5-6 and I want to eat a late dinner

I was ok phentermine for 1 month and lost 25lbs, but couldn’t take my adderall. My doctor changed me to Topamax, and I’ve gained half of the weight back and haven’t changed my diet or exercise.
So after you reach your goal on the phentermine is there anything you can take over the counter to help sustain your appetite and also with changes on my eating habits. I prefer to not take it more than 3 months. I have a very bad graving for sweets so I need that taste removed out my brain lol!! I would be good!
@@Callhermsross Olanzapine took me from 130 to 175 since February. I'm starting Wellbutrin and Topamax in the morning. I have been so depressed over this weight, more so than I already was. I can't wear any of my clothes - even my bigger clothes are too small. Just horrible - swollen everything including ankles and stretch marks on my arms :'(
I was actually taken off of Albilify about 2 months ago. I had been on it for about 7 months and I gained SO MUCH weight on it...like 40 pounds! My dr took me off the Abilify and started me on the Wellbutrin. It was a DISASTER! I had such horrible bouts or anger and rage. Unfortunately my poor husband had to take the brunt of most of these episodes. Pulling my hair out, cutting myself, never mind the horrendous things I would say to him...never loved him, wanted him out of my life...you get the picture. I told my about this when I went last week and he immediately stopped me on the Wellbutrin. Now he has me starting on Topamax. Its been about a week and I have yet to start taking it. I am so scared about all these side effects i keep reading about. The weight loss would be AMAZZZZING! But i have an 18 mos old son and i want to make sure I will be ok taking this new med. Should I take it at night instead of in the mornings? I don't know where to start with this!!???
I’m currently in school and I’m about to get on topamax I have read that it will affect my memory is that likely on a 50mg dose? Does is wear off? Any advice to prevent the memory loss side effect?
I lost 3 kg in 7 days on 50mg Topiramate daily, but I am now on 100mg Topiramate daily and my weight loss has stopped and it’s day 14, is this normal? My appetite seems to have slowly increased again also. Should I put my dose up?
Oh Can you do a side effects of phentermine? The only side effect I have noticed was some tingling on my hands and feet. But once I move around it goes away. And dried mouth. Should I be concerned about the tingling? Or will it go away after time?

When you lose weight you actually will burn fewer calories with the same exercise. You may want to exercise with weights. Sometimes fluid shifts will make the weight loss difficult to interpret. If you are doing weight training then the muscle mass will make it look like your are not losing adipose (fat) tissue. If you have access to a ymca or trainer, see if someone can do a body composition test on you. If your clothes are fitting better then you are building muscle mass and the weight will look like it is coming off slower.
I lost 20 pounds on Phentermine 37.5 milligrams I feel like my body adapt to it so I have to get Stricker on my nutrition to be keep losing weight should I switch to something else that does the same work like Belviq or Topamax?
Its very frustrating for the patient when we know drugs like Phentermine are available and providers refuse to prescribe them even if your BMI falls within the parameters. I have been told by my primary and OB they wont prescribe them because of how regulated they are.
I wonder if I have undiagnosed attention deficit disorder and that's why Phentermine makes me tired. 5-hour energies used to have the same effect on me where I'd be like all right taking this 5-hour energy I'm going to get everything done down half a bottle or even a quarter of a bottle and I'm out like a light lol
I just started phentermine 3 days ago. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but I feel more hungry on it than before I started phentermine. I do not feel any form of appetite suppression just overall feeling of not being my best. Has anyone else had this problem. I would take it early before a hour or two before a meal, water water!!! or try splitting the pill in half and take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 around 12 and try not to watch the clock,,,,, fruits and veggies and don't neglect carbs all at once baby steps,, its ok!!
If I wanted to continue to take phentermine I would have to take Topiramate also? I have been on Phentermine for 3 months and lost about 30 pounds. I would like to lose more but I heard Phentermine is harmful to your kidneys. Could I please have some insight on this?
No you dont have to take topiramate with it at all it's just supposed to be an add on to help boost the weight loss or even used by itself if the phentermine doesnt work but you never have to take it. Also yes, phentermine is not good for long term use and some drs will only do the 3 month thing, but some will go longer. I was on it for like 6 months once and ended up getting to where I wanted to be so then I stopped. Just talk to your personal dr bc ultimately it's your choice.
I’m in on topiramate for severe migraine but I’ve also change my eating habits about two months before they prescribed it to me n started losing weight I was in green smoothly shakes n a high protein meal plan n lost 15 pounds n now that I’m on topiramate I’m not sure if that’s helping me as well n I’m scared if I stop taking will some of the weight I loss come back ugh?? Phentermine was terrible for me. Didn't work and made me feel sick to the point where I would vomit and I felt dizzy and out of it all day. I got Topamax for my chronic migraines and actually had no idea it helped with weight loss as well. My pharmacists and doctors only tell me what I need to know for my particular situation and don't really tell me what the side effects are either. I'm just now actually taking them after having them for about 2 years. I have them in 25 and 50 mg.
I am on my 2nd cycle of phentermine and I haven't had much results in the first month. I only lost 4 lbs. I quit drinking diet coke, upped my fluid intake by double, started walking, been having weekly B-12 injections, trying to limit my sugar intake and carbs. My doctor was not happy with my weight loss for the first month, nor was I. I feel I have implemented many healthy lifestyle choices this month and am really proud of eliminating some bad habits (drinking diet coke....it was hard!!) I am on 200 mg. Of Gapapentin for fibromyalgia pain. Could the gabapentin be holding back my weight loss? One other thing to note, is I have had thyroid cancer and total thyroidectomy. My thyroid levels are WNL. But could this also be a hindrance to my weight loss? Last question, do you see a more difficult time with weight loss during the second cycle compared to the 1st cycle? Thank you!
I personally do well with 80ounces a day. While on phentermine/topomax I need about 100ounces. (I'm prone to kidney stones) Water is so important and makes a big difference. Some say drink a gallon a day. That's 128ounces. I only hit that once in a while. That's a LOT of water.

Hello Dr. Kathleen. I'm 5'6 and used to wieght 293pounds . With diet and exercise alone I've lost all that weight getting to my lowest weight of 179 pounds. Lately I've been been gaining weight getting back to 206 pounds even with diet and exercise 4-5 days a week During the week. I really do struggle on the weekends to eat right but honestly cannot control my urges. I've been looking into weight loss prescribed pills but I'm really skeptical about it because I've heard that getting off the pills will make you gain weight faster. Why do you think I'm not able to lose my weight that I've gained. It's not coming off regardless of how much exercise I get. I'm just afraid that I will get back to that part of my life where I weighed up to close to 300 pounds. I do not want that to happen. 😢 What can I do to lose this wieght again? Stop listening to rumors it’s all about the individual. I get so tired of hearing people say oh if you stop taking weight loss pills you’re gonna gain twice the weight back well yeah you’ll gain it back if you’re sitting your butt at the table, eating donuts and cereal that has tons of sugar in it of course but if you’re continuously, eating healthy, eating clean, eating a low-calorie diet, drinking your water exercising, you will not gain that way back I mean it’s common sense as you get older it’s harder for you to lose the weightso for you, I suggest you either get on phentermine or Topamax, because phentermine is an excellent medication of curbing your appetite. I guarantee you you’ll keep that weight off

Fun fact! Don’t use topiramate and exercise without consuming casts amounts of water. You WILL over heat and get a heatweather injury.

@Jennifer A exactly as I stated girl. I felt so shitty for some reason...but I was not hungry AT ALL. Not even thirsty, which led to getting a UTI. Not fun. I lost about 14lbs in 3 weeks.
I couldn't handle the side effects but everyone has a different physiology

I was actually taken off of Albilify about 2 months ago. I had been on it for about 7 months and I gained SO MUCH weight on it...like 40 pounds! My dr took me off the Abilify and started me on the Wellbutrin. It was a DISASTER! I had such horrible bouts or anger and rage. Unfortunately my poor husband had to take the brunt of most of these episodes. When you lose weight you actually will burn fewer calories with the same exercise. You may want to exercise with weights. Sometimes fluid shifts will make the weight loss difficult to interpret. If you are doing weight training then the muscle mass will make it look like your are not losing adipose (fat) tissue. If you have access to a ymca or trainer, see if someone can do a body composition test on you. If your clothes are fitting better then you are building muscle mass and the weight will look like it is coming off slower.

Its very frustrating for the patient when we know drugs like Phentermine are available and providers refuse to prescribe them even if your BMI falls within the parameters. I have been told by my primary and OB they wont prescribe them because of how regulated they are.

I would take it early before a hour or two before a meal, water water!!! or try splitting the pill in half and take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 around 12 and try not to watch the clock,,,,, fruits and veggies and don't neglect carbs all at once baby steps,, its ok!!

No you dont have to take topiramate with it at all it's just supposed to be an add on to help boost the weight loss or even used by itself if the phentermine doesnt work but you never have to take it. Also yes, phentermine is not good for long term use and some drs will only do the 3 month thing, but some will go longer. I was on it for like 6 months once and ended up getting to where I wanted to be so then I stopped. Just talk to your personal dr bc ultimately it's your choice.

Phentermine was terrible for me. Didn't work and made me feel sick to the point where I would vomit and I felt dizzy and out of it all day. I got Topamax for my chronic migraines and actually had no idea it helped with weight loss as well. My pharmacists and doctors only tell me what I need to know for my particular situation and don't really tell me what the side effects are either. I'm just now actually taking them after having them for about 2 years. I have them in 25 and 50 mg.

I am on my 2nd cycle of phentermine and I haven't had much results in the first month. I only lost 4 lbs. I quit drinking diet coke, upped my fluid intake by double, started walking, been having weekly B-12 injections, trying to limit my sugar intake and carbs. My doctor was not happy with my weight loss for the first month, nor was I. I feel I have implemented many healthy lifestyle choices this month and am really proud of eliminating some bad habits (drinking diet coke....it was hard!!) I am on 200 mg. Of Gapapentin for fibromyalgia pain. Could the gabapentin be holding back my weight loss? One other thing to note, is I have had thyroid cancer and total thyroidectomy. My thyroid levels are WNL. But could this also be a hindrance to my weight loss? Last question, do you see a more difficult time with weight loss during the second cycle compared to the 1st cycle? Thank you!
How much water should you drink to lose weight
I personally do well with 80ounces a day. While on phentermine/topomax I need about 100ounces. (I'm prone to kidney stones) Water is so important and makes a big difference. Some say drink a gallon a day. That's 128ounces. I only hit that once in a while. That's a LOT of water.

Hello Dr. Kathleen. I'm 5'6 and used to wieght 293pounds . With diet and exercise alone I've lost all that weight getting to my lowest weight of 179 pounds. Lately I've been been gaining weight getting back to 206 pounds even with diet and exercise 4-5 days a week During the week. I really do struggle on the weekends to eat right but honestly cannot control my urges. I've been looking into weight loss prescribed pills but I'm really skeptical about it because I've heard that getting off the pills will make you gain weight faster. Why do you think I'm not able to lose my weight that I've gained. It's not coming off regardless of how much exercise I get. Stop listening to rumors it’s all about the individual. I get so tired of hearing people say oh if you stop taking weight loss pills you’re gonna gain twice the weight back well yeah you’ll gain it back if you’re sitting your butt at the table, eating donuts and cereal that has tons of sugar in it of course but if you’re continuously, eating healthy, eating clean, eating a low-calorie diet, drinking your water exercising, you will not gain that way back I mean it’s common sense as you get older it’s harder for you to lose the weightso for you, I suggest you either get on phentermine or Topamax, because phentermine is an excellent medication of curbing your appetite.
