The only problem with using these caps in a base station setup is, they then to back feed after the power supply is shut off! I tried one time and as soon as I shut the power supply off, the cap started to back feed into the power supply. Need to have a switch inline between power supply and cap to prevent that from happening! Other then that another great video Rooster, I run 2 500 Farad caps in my mobile. They are great for taking the strain off your charging system
I have a 32x8 pill box what xs power battery and a couple 2pill radio's lol but what battery would u recommend ??? 111 needlebender in the buckeye would like 2 know
I have a 7k rms system and have two xs power d3400 batteries and was looking to get a third or a sb500. I have a 320 amp alternator but still get voltage drops to high 12’s low 13’s at idle. Probably going to go with the sb500 so the alternator don’t have to charge a third battery
Hey Rooster! How would it do with a 2nd battery hooked up inline (just like your demonstration) instead of a super cap? Just wondering...educate me! Thanks brother!
Batteries aren't able to dissipate 100% of their energy all at once like the supercap, nor do they recharge as fast. However, depending on battery size the supply of energy will be more dense if that makes sense. If you truly want the best of both worlds, a lithium battery is the answer. They function like a combination of supercap and battery bringing the best of both worlds.
In a mobile setup what do you charge the supercap with , leads coming from ? What is hooked to what? Thanks. Like running a 2x4 with 1 watt radio dead key you think stock gm altenator would be enough (2- 2290 x4-2879.
I have 2 jp 40 lithium in the back was told if I didn't want to do a battery delete (what i have now) this is what I needed. So do I buy one of these and just hook it up and charge it and I am good or do I need something else. Also this is safe under the hood?
Back when I was in school long ago, professor stated a 100 farad capacitor would be as big as a house. Guess, times have changed. You killed a Tacoma alternator?
I did. My tacoma had 327,000 miles on it when it sold. I believe I replaced that alt at 275,000 around a week or so after I started using a midnight special 700.
no, you saw it recharge in the video. If you were trying to charge the cap from being completely dead and let it surge all at once then yes. For example, when you receive a cap it is sitting generally around 4-5v maybe even less, it varies. XS Power provides a 1-2 amp light bulb with leads. You connect one end of this lead to your charging source (power supply, battery, etc) and the other lead to the hot terminal of your cap. What this does is prevents the cap from drawing all it can at once to charge itself. During normal use the cap will recharge itself nearly instantly and not draw maximum current. If you watch the video you will see when I unkey after speaking into the mic, the cap draws 80 amps and quickly draws less and less, recharging almost instantly.
@@Rooster_Radio Yes, but on a 150+ amp power supply. For example, I use an 85 amp supply so i suppose it would trip the crowbar circuit unless i didn't discharge too much at a time. Just a thought experiment.
It's percentage based. A supercap hooked to an 80 amp power supply isn't going to pull the same current upon recharge as a 150. The capacitor cant store more energy than its charging source
Thanks for clearing that up!
Thanks for the demonstration! I'll be hitting you up when I'm ready for some XS-Power goodness 👍
Thanks for the info! Great stuff 👍
Hey rooster if I use a 1500 farad capacitor and 2-320 alternator can I run my 32 Pill

You are correct
I’m so glad I read this comment thank you.
What is a base station set up??
Thanks buddy for all your good info. I’m new to this hobby and have wasted a bunch of money on stuff that never works.
Don't feel bad I've spent a lot of money on stuff I don't even need lol
Ive done the same. Lol I'm redoing my entire 2nd battery system cus I got the wrong stuff lol. We live we learn lol
Awesome, investment.
You're very right on the money Mr Rooster I have to 2 yellow top batterys in my truck that power capsule is not strong enough...

Hey I'm in tennessee I want to talk on the cb bump bump
Everyone loves discounts...HEHE
So: 700amp LiPo to 630f super cap to 400hd. That should be fine?

Ive got them, or i have a used sb630f that's about 6 months old, $300 shipped

Alternator ---> Battery or batteries ---> Suoerbank(s)---> Radio/amp
@@Rooster_Radio thanks
you have one that would help my power supply

Did you end up getting this, did it help?
Could I charge the sb500 with a 8ah lithium LTO battery charger?
Yes
@@Rooster_Radio thank you bro ima order one

Well when computers first came out a 100 gb drive was the size of a dinning table. Now usb thumb drives come in terabytes in size
When the Supercap recharges, will it trip the power supply?

Ah, okay.
I'll take a peak on the website.
@@Rooster_Radio isn’t it going to try to pull the same current from the supply? The cap doesn’t know what it’s connected to.
My thousand Farad should be an animal if I ever get time to hoow it up
You get it yet?
@@Rooster_Radio just did a few days ago everything made the trip just fine just gotta get some time to get them installed and drop the maul!
Then $20 capacitors are a joke that 500 Fahrenheit is exactly what you to use in a mobile if you’re running more than a two pill
