That ICOM is awesome...I'm thinking i want to buy a 2nd one, I'm using this for car audio, Thank you for this information!!! I wish more people are like you!!!
I have seen this video but want to know if I had a ground loop noise filter to suppress the whin will this help me for my car sound system...? Or that won't matter...?
Thanks, I'm gonna try this in my hybrid to help with subwoofer power amplifer. The vehicle rarely pushes above 13.8 DC on the 12v side. That has me a big worried.
I don't recommend using this as a replacement, but as an add on to help supplement voltage drops. This helps with quick voltage drops, but does not have storage capacity like a battery
You use it to delete it a battery in place of a crap ass AGM or lead acid which then this is then ran in parallel with lithium usually in the trunk... That's the point. Not to be the only thing that runs your vehicle
Cool! It looks like it has a constant current buck converter inside, so it is charging the capacitors with a constant current, and as the voltage of the capacitor rises inside the current stays the same. Therefore the power must increase, because of that the buck converter must draw more power from the "alternator", which you can see with the amps increasing on the fluke. I wonder if they sell anything a little smaller to put in the engine bay of my Buick Lesabre because the battery is in the back seat, not ideal for CCA.
I jus got mine today and it's heavy as shit..way more then I thought..ive noticed that their is a difference or atleast with 2 of them..does any one know what the difference is between the 2.mine is jus like this one but u have sum that dnt have that sticker on em and say u start
That would take surge amps off the alternator when charging .That RF noise is only when charging the cap, I get RF noise from my MPPT solar charge controller. I put chokes on all leads helps take about 75% hash noise away . same 7300 . off grid shack. night is not a problem or VHF/UHF . when working HF during the day that is not much at all ,If the QRM is bothersome I just pull the disconnect on solar array and noise all gone but no charge . I only do this when trying to hear a weak signal . should not get much noise off that cap with small to med loads. 73's BBI
Can I use this to start my car? I have a xs power xp3000 for a secondary battery also. Just wondering if I can use this until I'm done building my headway bank.
I’m running headway lithium in my vehicle and I have a nice xsd3100 under my hood I’m thinking about replacing the agm with the u31 is it a good idea for just stay with xsd3100 under my hood.
I've got a 4500rms sub system in my car. I added 2 of these to my 2 xs975agm. I'm also running a 240 singer alternator. These pair well with the xs power batteries. Even after sitting for a week and my amps staying on my voltage never dropped below 13v. Did it on purpose just to see. When connected to the batteries they never actually shut down. They will after disconnected from them. They keep my voltage above 13.4 even at full tilt. With 400 amp fuse inline to the amp. Just the batteries I could get about 1 minute 12 seconds before my voltage hit 12. Volt flat. Or below. I've had mine in the car for 2 years now with no issues so far. Probably just jinxed myself but oh well. Give um a try.
I have one works perfect and just ordered a second waiting on it now I like how I hardly see voltage drop I have 48ah of headway aswell Twisted sounds 3.5k ( does 5k ) 4 - old school mojos 12s
I’ve got two of these in my hummer. They work great. Only thing that sucks is after the vehicle is off for a while these shut down and there’s no way to connect to them with Bluetooth. So I don’t understand how their Bluetooth jumpstart mode is supposed to work, because they only turn back on when they detect a charge. Also these emit a fairly high pitch hum but it’s not all the time.
I got one of these recently they are on ebay as b stock for $125 shipped . Anyway is there any reason I couldn't just install this in my pickup bed under the tool box and run the positive straight to the amp and into a dual 2/0 reducer to 1/0 rather than run the battery positive to the cap and then positive back into my cab ? I would still think the cap would charge and discharge like this and eliminate some cable ...or am I missing something, obviously the ground go from frame to ultra can through my bed .
I was looking into these yesterday and I found some articles that they have been recalled and are NOT allowed for sale for on road vehicles because they have been found to short out internally and catch fire!! And everybody is selling these as used B stock for off road use only!! But I'm not sure what the story is as to how many of them have actually shorted out and caught fire?? Because it could have only happened a handful of times to get them recalled and who's to say they were being used properly within reason?? But on the other hand is it worth taking a chance to burn your vehicle to the ground just to save a couple hundred bucks on a better one??
@@jasond5405 These would be $450+ normally they never had a large problem with fires it was from what a read a couple isolated incidents. I've had my ultra cap I'm fir about a month no problem. @@georgec6228 ...hey friend, what condition did your stock b ultra cap show up in? And can you tell any difference in it's performance in your system? And is it worth me ordering two of them. Keep in mind, I have two different car systems that I'm working on for car audio purposes. I will have two group 31 opti bluetop batteries, that's 2 per vehicle. And I was basically hoping this will help improve my voltage, and at the same time, give my bluetop batteries an extended long period of life. I will also will be running a 240 amp mechman alternator in each vehicle. One vehicle being a Chevy HHR, the other vehicle being a trailblazer. Please let me know your thoughts. Please respond, and thanks in advance.
Mine stays on if I’m not wrong now after having it powered by my second battery from a isolator should I just put the cap separate from both of the battery’s from the battery isolator and tht will solve it? Or wht should I do it’s killing my battery’s cuz it’s staying on
It will not provide any power after being disconnected. The BMS inside will turn it off after a second without a parallel battery since that's not its intended use. It must sense another voltage parallel to it before it will supply power
I read some articles yesterday about these being recalled due to shorting out internally and catching fire!!!! Does anybody know the exact story on this and how many have actually shorted out and caught on fire before the recall???
I'm into car audio. And i have a car that mechman doesn't build a high output alternator for. If I use two of these loxus ultra caps, paired with a optima yellow top battery up under the hood, what could I expect? I'm only trying to power two 2000 watt d-class amps. Please respond, your input would be gladly appreciated.
I don't own a Super Capacitor but Super Capacitors are for a short brief "high current" situations like starting a car. you have 4000W / 12v = 333A for a fairly long time, as long as you are playing your music. You really need to find a high-current alternator for your car. You may still need extra batteries as close to your amps as possible, keep the wires between the batteries and amps as short as possible. see ua-cam.com/video/Yd7y8kCQBgU/v-deo.html Also be aware that this U-Start Super Capacitor has had a Recall ioxus.com/notice/ Resale of the capacitor module for on-road use is illegal under federal law.
I know I'm late to the party and you've long since found your answer but for anyone else with the same question yes. This will absolutely allow you to run 2k rms with your factory alt. Provided you've an upgraded battery under the hood and good wiring. I am pushing over 3k rms with a 103 amp alt, a xs power d3400 under the hood and very good wiring. I've also done the big 4. But yes. This is incredibly helpful. If you go to big jeff audio he has them for $153.
I jus bought one and even tho you're video is old and I'm watching it I cnt find not 1 video that actually explains what it does and how it works and a hooking it up video not 1..
To start, this supercapacitor was made for the trucking industry where they normally have three batteries in parallel to start the engine. What you would do is remove the battery that connects to the wiring and put this in its place. When an electrical motor (starter) starts you have what is called a surge current, which is about 10 times greater than the normal running current. The way this works is the surge current comes out of the Supercapacitor, and the running current comes from the regular battery. Then the engine starts and the alternator recharges the Supercapacitor and batteries. the U-Start can also Jumpstart the truck with a Bluetooth app
Love every single video and the way you explain everything - I learn so much and cannot begin to thank you enough.

Some ultra capacitors without the electronics are likely better for radio applications.
