As a person who installed astroturf for Cal High & Monte Vista I can confirm that those rubber pellets on the field get extremely hot during higher temperatures causing it to rise in heat. Is not fun during the summer
Plastic at high temps, especially outdoors, can also be a serious health hazard. The "forever chemicals" found in the Veterans Stadium turf from 1977 to 2001 were linked to 6 Phillies players all developing a rare brain cancer before the age of 60. (Tug McGraw, Darren Daulton, John Vukovich, John Oates, Ken Brett, and David West). The type of plastics/rubber might be different, but at 130°+ on the field, this can't be good, and another reason why the player's association should be totally against this.
Thanks MLB & Rob Manfred...ruin the River Cats' beautiful grass field so the freeloader John Fisher's A's can play there. It's not too late to reverse course and force him to sell the team.

Casey you asked the same question I've been wondering for a while now. Where is the Player's Union? Who's greasing the palms of the folks there, so that they're essentially giving approval of this travesty by staying silent?
There are several examples of teams sharing a ballpark. The older ones are in Philadelphia (A's and Phillies) and St. Louis (Cardinals and Browns) but that ended 70 years ago. A more recent example was 50 years ago when the Mets and Yankees shared the natural grass field of Shea Stadium for two seasons while Yankee Stadium was being reconstructed. The science of playing fields has improved exponentially since then. There is no doubt that a well engineered and carefully maintained natural grass field could be used.
The Rivercats have been playing Day and night games in Sutter Health Park for 20 years and there haven’t been any issues. If you live in the Bay Area your perceptions of the heat in Sacto are overblown. Night games are wonderful.
I'm just watching the Fischer-Kaval show crumble at this point, but it's going to be interesting to see what the A's do to Sutter field. They're going to rip out grass for turf and then build a random clubhouse across the street to use for 3 years, and then the A's are going to bounce. And then sacramento is left with a rushed footprint. Also, I play ball in sac on a turf field in the summers and its brutal after a few innings. Sacramento Valley in the summer can get up to Arizona-type temperatures (104-111) and I dont think the A's realize the heat dangers games can bring to fans and players
