Plastic at high temps, especially outdoors, can also be a serious health hazard. The "forever chemicals" found in the Veterans Stadium turf from 1977 to 2001 were linked to 6 Phillies players all developing a rare brain cancer before the age of 60. (Tug McGraw, Darren Daulton, John Vukovich, John Oates, Ken Brett, and David West). The type of plastics/rubber might be different, but at 130°+ on the field, this can't be good, and another reason why the player's association should be totally against this.

Thanks MLB & Rob Manfred...ruin the River Cats' beautiful grass field so the freeloader John Fisher's A's can play there. It's not too late to reverse course and force him to sell the team.

George Brett told the story that when he was in Kansas City, they had put in turn in Royals Stadium. In the summer the trainer had bed pans full of ice in the dug out for players to soak their feet in between innings. Brett said during a day game he put his feet in the water and it started to turn to steam. Players were coming out of games with blisters on their feet.

Well, yeah. Plastic grass gets hot. It's bad enough to have it in an enclosed, air-conned stadium. But now you put it outdoors, in a functional desert, and when you try to wet it down to cool it off, it gets slicker than boiling snot. And Salt Lake isn't much better for day games than Sac-O-Tomatoes... Manfred, this mess is all yours buddy...

There are several examples of teams sharing a ballpark. The older ones are in Philadelphia (A's and Phillies) and St. Louis (Cardinals and Browns) but that ended 70 years ago. A more recent example was 50 years ago when the Mets and Yankees shared the natural grass field of Shea Stadium for two seasons while Yankee Stadium was being reconstructed. The science of playing fields has improved exponentially since then. There is no doubt that a well engineered and carefully maintained natural grass field could be used.

I'm just watching the Fischer-Kaval show crumble at this point, but it's going to be interesting to see what the A's do to Sutter field. They're going to rip out grass for turf and then build a random clubhouse across the street to use for 3 years, and then the A's are going to bounce. And then sacramento is left with a rushed footprint.
Also, I play ball in sac on a turf field in the summers and its brutal after a few innings. Sacramento Valley in the summer can get up to Arizona-type temperatures (104-111) and I dont think the A's realize the heat dangers games can bring to fans and players

MLB essentially just forced out one of the most incompetent umpires. One would think that maybe, just maybe they would force out one of the most incompetent owners. Instead, they've just lowered the bar and lowered the bar and lowered the bar for Fisher. They could've charged him a relocation fee. They could've said that the deal in LV as of Jan 2024 was not binding enough to keep revenue sharing. It's looking more and more now to be less binding. Now, this joke of a temporary stadium situation for at least 3 seasons after the NHL forced the Coyotes to move to Utah because of their temporary venue without a new home on the horizon. What a joke

The head groundskeeper mentioned that they use a different variety of grass than Oracle park because it is hotter in Sacramento. Sacramento often gets the cool Delta breezes at night making some evenings almost as cold as San Francisco. It makes no sense to mess with the field itself. In fact, why add seating capacity? The A's currently average around 6,400 fans. The seating capacity of Sutter Health Field is 10,624 plus 3,400 in the berm grass area.

Astro Turf is the Worst. This new Astro TURF with phony plastic grass and the caner causing rubber Chunks w water or something spraying off it is just silly. Baseball needed to return to Tradition. Now it's like the late 60s, and early mid 70s and all those sins are happening all over again. W THE AWFUL Manfred rules, a fing clock in a timeless game, Extra inning ghost man on 2nd.. pickoff limits, batter minimums, and no switching r and lhp is the Worst offenses
The nets and gaudy led boards just destroy the experience. The stupid Led lights are blue and painful to the eye. Plus being told I can't have a paper ticket is INSANE arlt the box office. Assuming I have a stupid cell phone. The last thing at a game I want is a phone
Also ... Can we get rid of these horrid ASG uniforms, and be proud of the teams who have represented our own towns. Plus the playoffs are too damn long, ruining the interest because no one can keep track when half the clubs are in. One who do not deserve it, should not knock off clubs who fought all year so easy ....and one more thing. Yes, let's get rid of Interleague Play. It's run it's course and brings more bad than good.
Ok that's enough for now. Ps banning smoking areas means folks smoke in the bathroom or in hiding or stay in the seating bowl. Manfred works to make everyone uncomforable, eliminating the cheap upper deck seats youth and families can afford, and putting in ugly bars. What did u do to the Jake and Coors, they are awful looking.
