Great video! I think you covered the history of the Beano perfectly for those both familiar and unfamiliar with the comic. I look forward to your future video covering the Annuals and other misc. bits and pieces. Keep up the great work!
Another great video! I'm from the US and have never heard about the Beano but thanks for the history lesson, I found it fascinating! I also recommended your Channel on my channel so hopefully you'll get more traffic my friend! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Matt! Yeah, the Beano is a British as it comes, interesting to hear a perspective from someone outside the UK. Huge thank you for recommending my channel, I really do appreciate it.
I wish I still had mine, I'm fairly certain I wore my wallet out and the badges were on my old school bag, you don't think of these things at the time :)
8:14 The Beano have actually confirmed that his name is actually Dennis as well. This would probably make sense as I'm pretty sure Dennis's name was on the door of the fence to his house in a 1980s strip. The Beano have also confirmed that Dennis's surname is Menace.
@@TheBeanoisMyFavComic Yes that's true, and since Dennis' grandmother is called Catherine, it can be assumed that the original mother was called Catherine.
Anyone else watching this on the Beano’s 80th birthday? I am! I even bought the 80th anniversary issue despite not having even touched a Beano in years!
Happy 80th Beano! I picked up my copy too, nice to have an anniversary comic. Working on another Beano episode at the moment, would've loved to have had it out in time for the 80th but ah well :)
Thanks for the video, mate and it's very interesting. I used to watch read Beano comics when I was a kid and a teenager. In January 2005, I discontinued buying Beano comics at age 14 (turned 15 in April same year) because I thought I had outgrown Beano comics but I still love the Beano. Also I used to read Dandy comics when I was a kid and a teenager. In about late December 2004, I discontinued buying Dandy comics at age 14 because I thought I had outgrown Dandy comics but I still love the Dandy. It's a shame DC Thomson has stopped publishing Dandy comics since late 2012 I think but they continue making Dandy annuals and summer specials. My favourite Beano comic strips are Dennis the Menace and Gnasher, Roger the Dodger, Bash Street Kids and Minnie the Minx and my favourite Dandy comic strips are Desperate Dan, Bananaman (I still don't care he's currently in Beano), Winker Watson and Korky the Cat as well. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
wow, great video man, really nailed the history, I was a platinum Beano club member myself and collected from around 1996 to (i think) 2005-ish, this was a good trip down that memory lane as I saw the current iteration of Dennis recently (which made me youtube search) and was shocked at how he has grown with the times in his CGI state. Calamity James was also a favourite of mine, but the strip I really wanted to see each week was crazy for daisy, I bloody loved that strip haha! keep up the great work mate, earned my subscribe - also, I never got to go to Beano land at Chessington world of adventures as a kid...did you?
Wow! I'd COMPLETELY forgotten about the Beanoland! no I never went, but I remember seeing photos and the press release for when it opened! Thanks for the kind words!
Could you please help and let me know how does one get these comics in India. I have a few from my childhood. Would love to know how to get to read more online or hard covers
I'd honestly say eBay is probably your best best for getting physical copies. I think The Beano does have a digital subscription service for the new comics but not so sure on the older ones, again it might be case of buying them on eBay
I think the cgi series will last for while since series 1 did amazing on cbbc. That week it came out it was the number 1 tv show for 6-12 year olds that week. I hope they go back to the 2d cartoon style and bring back Curly who was kicking out for Rubi and jj
From what I’ve seen and read yeah it’s done very well. I have seen episodes and...sounding like an old sod now, it’s not my Dennis. I get why it’s the way it is, progressiveness and obviously not wanting to show Dennis as a bad kid or a menace. The other thing that they’re striving for is global appeal, getting the show state side. I think it’s lost a bit of what makes Dennis and by extension The Beano very British feeling. Just my opinion on it though, clearly kids are loving it and I’ve stacks of comics and annuals with old menacing Dennis to read still ;)
that lord snooty revamp is a totaly differant charater lord snooty the 3ed (bit of a confusing family tree) this only lasted the 2000's and the original snooty is back but lord snooty the 3ed does apper but only in small stuff such as in a massive photo of all the beano characters from the whole of beano history
I have a box of Dandy, Beezer, Topper and Whizzer and Chips annuals and comics somewhere in the attic. My brother got The Dandy Annual at Christmas and I got The Beano...still getting the Beano! I got 2018's this Christmas!
We had Mad Magazine. We used to walk to the drug store to get one the day they hit the drug store. My cost? 40 cents. As far as humor goes, nothing beats British TV classics. My favorites include "Are you being served?" Ab Fab, and Keeping up appearances. By the way, did you guys have Charlie Brown?
Yeah, I'm in the UK & remember watching Charlie Brown as a kid on Saturday mornings. I had a couple of Snoopys & the peanuts comic strip was in one of the national papers aswell.
The video was made before the new Dennis series came out, I'd read a few articles about it but obviously until the show was out, it was all speculation.
5:49 I'm A Huge Fan Of The Beano. Thanks Mate. XXxxx 🇬🇧 🇦🇺 🇺🇸

I found some Beano books at a used comic book store once here in Arizona.

The Beano is awesome 😁👍
I think I still have the fan club badges and wallet my sister got back in the early 80s.

Really great video mate! Would love to know what you think about modern beano with shows like So Beano and their new channel Beano XL
Thank you! When I was getting into Beano I watched this video and I thought me soo much also are you gonna do a dandy video or were you planning on it

9:04 that one of the parts that is in a Beano comic I have it’s from 1989

In one episode he cares for people because it’s Christmas. If I wrote it he would just care about the presents nothing else because he’s a menace
beano is the greatest

What’s the music at 5:56?
It’s called gaslamp funworks, one of the free tracks in the UA-cam audio library
@@downfromtheattic thanks! I I recognised it and I knew it was a Kevin Macleod song but I forgot what it was called
Btw I also own a 1980s Beano fan club wallet I got it for £30 and it looks brand new
I have the beano at my school
When are you doing the dandy

Amazing song mate, BTW u look a bit like ollie plimsolls from the league of gentlemen
You look like the actor Kris Marshall who was in that crappy BBC sitcom My Family.
hah, you're not the first to say that 😂 And i hated that show too
2000 ad next
Dennis dossent use an iPad.

Sorry.
Duck it’s you
I aggre. The new Dennis is just lazy and stuff. The old one is more funny and has the things I'd like about the naughty kids.
