Kenyan here. I grew up with the UK Dennis the Menace and Gnasher in the Beano comics. They (as well as the Dandy comics) were a staple of my childhood.
Only learned about his more innocent American counterpart from the live action movie.

@@FactsVerse There was an episode of the 1996 series where everyone went to this new mall and started acting weird, and when Dennis and Gnasher investigate it, Dennis himself starts acting weird. Since Gnasher is a dog, he avoids it, and everyone normal again. Dennis and Gnasher go after the villain of the episode, and they win, and the villain gets taken away. The episode is called Mauled.

0:37 - Dennis' last name in the US is Mitchell. His neighbors are Mr. & Mrs. Wilson.
The comic Dennis the Menace was meaner than his tv counterpart, played by Jay North. His dad & Mr. Wilson were meaner too, mean of course being a relative term.
I knew about the movie being called "Dennis" in other places but didn't know why until now.

The first US Dennis the Menace film is a childhood favorite. I also watched the live action black and white show and animated series when it aired from time to time.📺📰🎞🎬 I also remember him also being a mascot for Dairy Queen back when.🍦🍨🍧
I didn't know that there was a English franchise of the same name until recently. Quite the coincidence.

I was aware of the US Dennis thanks to seeing the odd episode of the cartoon as a kid but I read the UK Dennis all the way through my childhood, I loved the Beano. The UK used to have a tradition of loads of similar comics, aimed at children and full of mischievous characters, daft jokes and puns - and really great art (mostly all published by the same Dundee based company, DC Thompson) - The Dandy, The Beezer, Topper, Whizzer and Chips, The Nutty, Whoopee, Wow - to name but a few. I don't think comics quite like that existed anywhere else in the world. Sadly, they're mostly all gone now. The Beano still exists but I think its readership is far lower - from the 1930s till about the 1990s they were ubiquitous. (My favourite character of all was Oor Wullie, a Scottish character, who wasn't quite as mean as Dennis but did enjoy knocking off the local policeman's helmet with a catapult every now and then)

Grew up reading the beano with dennis the menace along with Bananaman. None of the cartoons have ever lived up to the comics because they don't feature any other beano elements like Minnie the minx or Roger the dodger or the bash street kids.

Growing up I was always disappointed by the American Dennis the Menace. With a name like that I expected a nasty little shit. But Dennis was just the sweet kid who accidentally caused mayhem wherever he went.
The British Dennis sounds way more like the kind of character I would have loved growing up.

In my opinion, the UK version is the superior one, due to him being an actual menace - at least in the older comics, in the new ones he’s less mean mainly due to changing times
The artist behind the UK Dennis wasn’t George Law, it was David Law.

US Dennis is a poser. The Beano Dennis is fighting his own war and he has no rules. No boundaries. He doesn't flinch at torture, human trafficking, or genocide. He's not loyal to a flag or country or any set of ideals. He trades blood for money.

Dennis and U.K. Dennis are cousins.
Both are born in the same year.
His annoying classmate Percy is a milk-toast.
Dennis has Mr. Wilson to pester.
U.K. Dennis has the Brigadier to pester.
It would be a hoot if Dennis went to the U.K.
and meets his counterpart cousin. They
both have a mischievous streak and would
team up on Percy; because U.S. Dennis will
find him more annoying than Margaret Wade..
